[Hoofington] Lost and Found [OPEN]

Recommended Posts

Snow walked through the streets of Hoofington, her hooves aching and her good eyelid drooping. Her fur was strewn with mud, sticking up in tufts and red in places where there was dry blood. Her sides heaved as she struggled to breath, exhaustion threatening to win over her body.

She stumbled, tripping over her own hooves and falling to her knees. They scraped along the ground, but she didn't have the strength to cry out. She pushed herself back to her feet, blood slowly leaking down her legs. But she was too tired to care. She didn't even care that the taste of blood had seeped into her mouth. She must have bitten her tongue as well when she fell.

She swiveled her head back and fourth, looking around. Where was she? The motion of her head caused her feet to sway, and she leaned against a wall. Huffing, she pushed a shoulder against the wall to help herself get to her feet again, and she continued on.

Snow didn't have the strength to even hold her head up, letting it droop low to the ground. She swayed again, her vision growing dark and hazy. She was vaguely aware of a jolt that went through her body; she must have hit the ground. Her eye remained open for a moment, her head pounding inside her skull. Darkness surrounded her sight and mind, pulling her in as she fainted.

Cinnamon Love was trotting down some of the more well-lit streets of the big city, returning to the apartment she rented when in town from a successful, it somewhat tedious, conference. As she passed by one of the darker side streets she caught something out of the corner of her eye, stopping just beyond the entrance to the street to turn around and trot back. Yes, there was definitely something out of the ordinary. Was that a pony, lying on the ground? Concern wrinkled her face as she trotted over, and as she saw the blood she froze for a moment.

"Somepony get a doctor!" she yelled at the top of her lungs, her horn glowing a bright red for a moment, the words she just spoke emblazoned like neon in the air in front of that street's entrance. The magic seemed to take something out of her, as she was panting as she knelt down next to the wounded... no, not pony, she realized. Peryton. A wounded peryton. Cinnamon recoiled at first, cringing away from the creature, her magical sign flickering. But it looked badly injured, and it would've been mean of her to ignore the poor thing. Besides, in that moment of fear, her emotions had settled on 'sorrow and determination', and nothing in Equestria was going to stop her.

Gently laying a hoof against the peryton's neck, she felt a pulse, though not exactly a strong one, and let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. Her dress, and the rumors she had heard about perytons, be damned. She was going to make sure this one got better.

Wind Rider wasn't even on patrol when he heard the shout. It was from somewhere below him as he took the skies, wanting to enjoy a bit of casual flying on his day off. Still, the words "Somepony get a doctor!" hit him with clarity...but maybe that was aided by the sudden appearance of the words, physically in the sky, not too far away. He quickly jumped into gear...it was interesting to watch when that happened. One moment, Wind Rider could be his usual calm self, having a chat and seemingly no cares in the world, but the next, he was focused, collected, and ready for anything. It was almost as if he had a split personality...the calm and lazy flyer, and the fast-flying, fast-thinking rescuer.

The brown pegasus beat his wings hard to get some speed, then tucked them in and angled himself down, accelerating to ridiculous speeds given his altitude. He flared out his wings and came to earth in a fast glide, landing next to the prone figure of what appeared to be a pony at first, and the unicorn (who he rightly assumed cast the letters in the sky) knelt over it. "What happened?" he asked. His voice had a quiet tone to it, yet clearly carried the weight of some authority...he might not be in his uniform, but he was still the Ranger for the area, whether on duty or not, and he wasn't going to just ignore a cry for help.

Not that he could do much...he wasn't a doctor by any sense of the term, though he knew first aid, but he could at least provide something. A fast mover to relay messages, or get the pony out if a doctor didn't get there fast enough.

Cinnamon's head whipped around when she heard another voice, and she looked straight at Wind Rider, taking in the wings and everything else physical about the pony in the space of a heartbeat. She probably wouldn't remember it later, but for now all that mattered was that this new pony was a pegasus. "I don't know," she answered, her voice having a distinct undercurrent of suppressed panic. "But they're badly injured... there's blood everywhere..." She gestured somewhat helplessly at the injured peryton.

"I don't... I just..." It was obvious she was having to fight down a panic reaction. Despite how much she wanted to help, the situation was new and strange and scary, and that always lead to her attempting to panic. "You're a pegasus? Good. Go get a doctor... fast. I'll stay here with this pony." Pony. Yes. Call them a pony... maybe the pegasus wouldn't notice the small horn-nubs. After all, if her first reaction to realizing it was a peryton was to pull back, what would this new pony's reaction be? She couldn't risk it.

Reaching down with a hoof, she grabbed the edge of her dress, ripping a strip off of it to fold into a pad, pressing it against one of the more bloody wounds on the injured peryton. Looking back towards the mouth of the street, she saw that that pegasus was still there. "Quickly!" she snapped, some of her old self coming back into her voice now that she was acting, if only in a small way.

Wind Rider reached out with a hoof, gently placing it against Cinnamon's right shoulder. "Take a deep breath and relax." he instructed. Being in a panic wasn't going to do anypony any good. That's how brash decisions and mistakes were made in an emergency. He nodded when she asked him to fly off to get a doctor. "Stay with her." he said. He didn't know why but Wind Rider got a distinct impression, maybe just from the way the pony on the ground was built, that it was a mare, though it may just be a lankier stallion.

"If anypony comes along, see if they can help. I'll be right back." he said, running along the road even as she urged him on. Once Wind got up enough speed he flared out his wings and beat them once to kick off the ground, taking off into the air. He didn't have the time to run home and get a whistle or even his hat, so he kept low.

"Medic!" he yelled out. "We need a doctor, is anypony a doctor?" he continued to cry out to the ponies below him, hoping his voice would carry as he skimmed the rooftops of Hoofington...he also hoped that somepony with medical training was out and about, because he had no idea if the town's doctor was in, and though he was making his way there, it was a ways from the fallen pony...if he could get somepony closer, then all the better.

Balance was in his office working on paperwork. He was having a long and un-eventful day. However, that changed quickly as he heard a pony yelling outside. He left his room, and went to his secretaries desk. He worked out what the pony was saying. "Medic! We need a doctor, is anypony a doctor?!" Balance turned around, and spoke calmly to his secretary, a red mare with glasses. "Find Dr. Health Nut, I'll be right back." Balance straightened his tie, and ran out of his office, grabbing a first aid kit from the desk. He had experience with first aid, his mother being a nurse, so he would help in any way he could.

He ran up to the pony, and started talking. "Where is the pony in trouble?" He levitated his first-aid kit up, so the pony saw it. "I'll help however I can. Also, any information on what happened will make everything easier." He awaited the answer, being unusually patient, unlike his normal self. He hoped it would stay that way, though.

Below him, WInd Rider saw some movement as a pony rushed outside with the obvious white and red of a medkit in the glow of unicorn magic. He banked sharply to the right and tucked his wings in, coming in for a fast landing next to Balance. He nodded, but then shrugged a shoulder at the same time. "I wish I could tell you exactly what went on, but I don't know. I was just flying one moment, and the next I'm looking over a pony on the ground that was hurt pretty bad, bleeding quite a bit. Just this way, come on." Wind Rider said, trotting down the street until Balance caught up, and then breaking out into a fast run, his hooves thundering along the cobblestones as he made his way back toward where the injured pony and the mare were waiting. He hated running, felt like it took longer as he had to get around the buildings...he hoped that that extra bit of time wasn't enough for the other pony to get in a worse state.

Balance tried his best to chase after Wind Rider, but it h ad been so long since his last run, that he got tired quickly. He slowed down, seeing Wind Rider gain more speed, while he was getting further behind. Wind Rider stopped, and Balance finally caught up with him, panting heavily. He was worried when he saw the pony was in a darker street, hoping the pony wasn't attacked, but he put that at the back of his mind and he swayed over to the pony. No, he realized it wasn't a pony "A Peryton? Why's there a Peryton in Hoofington? No, answer that later, I have to get busy." He said to himself, ignoring the other pony with them. He took out a small pair of glasses, which he (usually) used to examine evidence, though only to look smart while examining it.. He looked as best as he could, but he was having trouble with the darkness.

Let's see... Fresh blood along the peryton's legs especially the knee's, must be some scrape. Dried blood along it's whole body including mud, must have been some sort of struggle. Is that blood from it's mouth? I'll leave that do whoever Dr. Health Nut assigns to it. "Can somepony help me? I need some things out of here, having troubles seeing in this. Just need anti-biotic gel and bandages for now, I'll do more as I need it.

As who she assumed was a doctor examined the injured peryton, Cinnamon Love hovered around them, anxious and protective at the same time. She did her best to keep herself out of the doctor-pony's way, but she knew she was still probably getting in the way. Cinnamon didn't know much about medicine, so she didn't try to offer any 'helpful' comments. In all likelihood she'd just slow things down. But when the pony asked for the gel and the bandages, and mentioned his difficulty seeing in the darkness, she practically jumped in the air.

Without a word, Cinnamon focused on her magic. Telekinesis was easy enough, a simple spell that every unicorn knew. And the light spell was just something easy and small, one she often used when writing into the night. A small orb of softly glowing light coalesced in the air above the injured peryton, and a moment later the asked after items floated over to the doctor-pony, glowing softly themselves due to Cinnamon's magic. "Are they going to be alright?" she asked, unable to restrain herself as she hovered nearby.

Balance was startled by the unicorn floating nearby, but held back his surprise to grab the things. "Depends on when she was found. She appears to have been injured a while ago, judging by the dried blood, but most of it seems fresh, so if I work quickly she should be fine." Balance started applying the gel on the wounds on her knees, followed by her other open wounds, then putting bandages where they were needed. "I can't deal with the blood from her mouth, I'll leave that to the specialist. For now, I'll finish my first aid." He put the peryton on her back, and tilted her head up.

"This should keep her airway open..." He put his ear to the peryton's mouth. "Breathing is normal..." He then put his hoof to the peryton's hoof. "Pulse is weak, but should do for now. There's nothing more to do for now, so we'll wait for the specialist." Balance sat, keeping the peryton's head tilted. He turned to the pegasus, as he had a realization. "Can you head back to my office quickly? I doubt my secretary knew where I ran off to."

Wind Rider slowed to a stop next to the others once the doctor was there, and was surprised by his assessment. A Peryton? Yes, what indeed was a Peryton doing in Hoofington? "It's probably best if you help him, I'm no good with this medical stuff." Wind addressed Cinnamon, then turned to watch the two work. He stayed quiet as Balance worked, then nodded the moment he got his orders. "I'll be back. Should I bring the secretary along, or just tell her where you've run off to?" he asked. Then another thought hit the rescue pony and he looked at both ponies in front of him.

"Do either of you need anything while I'm out? If I'm going to be flying anyways, it would be best to get this all in one go rather than making many trips." he pointed out, flaring out his wings and getting ready to take off again.

"Tell my secretary she may come if she wants, but otherwise should return to the office." Balance paused, and thought for a few seconds. "I don't believe we'll be needing anything else, just our location will be fine. Oh, and maybe warn the doctor about the situation, so he'll be prepared for what's to come." Balance couldn't think of anything else that would be needed. He quickly looked over the Peryton again, happy to see nothing he missed, then looked around for any other signs of what may have happened. He couldn't find anything out in the open, but he knew he'd find something if he did a more thorough investigation, but was still busy holding the peryton's head back. "Oh, and you may want to hurry, just in case there's something we don't see that's affecting her."
