  1. x2 BUILDING IT UP AGAIN, WATCH OUT FORUMS HERE I COME

So, I was up two nights ago working on the vector of my OC, and I was just about ready to do the body, so I took a look at the face. It was then that I realized I didn't need to do anything else. It was...

    avatarv2.png

    BEAUTIFUL.

Incidentally, my OC is indeed strangely obsessed with tubs of honey. Take that as you will.

  2. hi hi

    C-c-combo breaker!

I've been noticing that long tall legs are rather popular amongst the sophisticated crowd. Maybe you've noticed this too, but short ponies don't get a lot of fan attention do they?

Well, that's a good point! Let's analyze that, shall we?

Now, the way I see it, this is just another product of the common MO for any Original Character. Check out any fandom, and I guarantee almost every character you see will be tall, unless they're children, and sometimes they're still tall even then. I mean, I'll be honest when I say that I don't expect to be drawing something like this anytime soon, although I suddenly kind of want to:

  3. Oh man am I already on Crazy Oatmeal status? Wow.

As a bit of a relaxing step down, I decided that with all of my fancountries for MLP, I might as well put out the major differences, appearance-wise.

    multiculturalcolts.jpg

This is just page one, there are tons more where that came from. I think I do too much worldbuilding, mayhaps.

  4. Oh well thank you! Your work I think would fall under digital drawing, especially if it was done with a tablet. There's a particular technique to vectoring, by contrast. It's mostly paths and shapes. As far as this second picture goes, you improvement on the eye looks adorable, your snout is perfectly fixed up, and your lines look a lot neater this time over. Overall, this is a nice improvement!

  5. This is a nice spin when it comes to color combination! Similar colors like these usually end up not looking so hot, but I think you paired them well! As for the full structure of the head, the curve that you put on the bottom of the snout ought to be a bit smoother. Think of it as just a part of a wider circle, rather than a droopy-down... thing.

Secondly, utilize layers more often, trust me when I say they'll save you life and your art. Only saying that because a lot of parts seem to be bleeding into one another.

Finally, the eye certainly looks far too glazed-over, to the point that it's hard to really tell anything from it.

Well, that's my opinion. Good design, good pallet, but could improve a bit on technique.

  6. Apis put his hoof to his face for a moment. As of late, he'd had a bit of trouble remembering much of his past. Too much going on in the present. "Oof..." He said, calculating to himself, "Well, if I came here just last yer, then that means I got my Cutie Mark around..." Apis thought, and then decided that while it may not be an exact date...

"About eighteen years ago was when I first got my cutie mark, but I've been in the business since a few months before that." Yes, he was sure that was about right, since that was also around the time that his father threw a huge party for him. It completely slipped Apis's mind what the party was about until now.

Taking the small jar, Apis bowed his head as a slight "thank you", and immediately popped open the lid. Cautiously, he held the jar up to his face, close enough so that he could get a good look. "Coloration...Check." Yes, it did seem to be the color it ought to be for clover. Of course, he expected as much, but you can never be too sure. Next, lowering it slightly, he dipped his tongue into the jar and lifted it out, scooping a bit of honey off with. It was goopy, but not like caramel, which meant it was good, pure, and most importantly, unfiltered. "Consistency, check. And finally..." Apis felt a bit rude about his method of eating the honey, but what worked worked, he supposed. Slapping the honey into his mouth with his tongue, he swished it around a bit to check for flavor. To his surprise, it wasn't as sweet as he originally expected. "Flavor... a somewhat surprising check! Hmm, it appears I was strangely mistaken! I have no clue as to what you do, but your bees do a good job of keeping the sweetness level in-check!" Apis leaned in and gave a slightly mischief-expecting smirk, and said, "Are you sure this is clover?"

  7. You should totally make a tutorial on how you make those vectors. They're so close to the original. :)

    please... :scream:

Okay, so here we go: You know most of my vector work? I learned how to do it from a series of Youtube videos called Vectoring is Magic. I'm pretty sure everypony who has done vector art at one point or another would have heard of these, but they are seriously so helpful you don't even know.

    SPEAKING OF VECTORS!

    eonfinal.png

Done for a requester over FA. Probably the last piece of request work I'll be doing for a while! Know why?

Because I've been considering taking up commissions!

I really need the money, so it seemed like a good idea. No worries, you'll still be getting art from me even if I don't have any customers!

  8. Sparkseeker.png

    Roleplay Type: Crossovers (Past)

    Name: Sparkseeker (the Sightless)

    Sex: Male

Age: Stallion (Likely the equivalent of mid 20s)

    Species: Unicorn

Eye Color: Sparkseeker's irises and pupils are a glazed silver, due to being blind.

    Coat Color: Moss Green

Mane: As per the code of wizards at the time, Sparkseeker shaved much of his mane, leaving only a small crop of hair up front, which he probably would have shaven back if he could see, so it does not get in his eyes. His mane has a color similar to that of a dulled silver or a stone.

Tail: His tail has been shaven down to a small tuft which is otherwise invisible underneath his cloak.

Physique: Despite the fact that he is normally-sized for a pony, he is a bit on the thin side, due to lack of an appetite, as well as the tendency to lock himself in his chambers for days, sometimes weeks on end.

Cutie Mark: Sparkseeker's cutie mark is often depicted in historical records of his time as an ornately-shaped lightning bolt of some kind, but is depicted in historical books in other forms as well, such as an eight-pointed star, a wisard's cap, etc.

Origin/Residence: It is unknown exactly where Sparkseeker was born, but while historical contexts make very clear that he had a study room in one of Canterlot Castle's towers, it is even more clear from inference that he was more at-home in the Everfree Forest, where his master, Whitewood the Kind, trained him.

Occupation: During the Late Classical Era, Sparkseeker was trained to be one of the Mages of the Canterlot Royal Court, which was an alliance of Unicorns, Pegasi, and Earth Ponies, who dedicated their lives to the finding of artifacts deemed valuable to the kingdom of Canterlot, as well as serving as personal assistants and guards to the royals. Sparkseeker, however, was also regarded as a very ambitious adventurer.

Motivation: Sparkseeker has been blind for his entire life, since his birth. Though he has learned to do without, he secretly yearns to study the secrets of the world, and one day concoct a spell that will give him the sight he never had.

    Character Summary

Sparkseeker the Sightless is a notable historical figure in the history of the Late Classical Era. Though a few texts claim that Sparkseeker was self-taught, the majority of the existing historical documents agree that Sparkseeker was taught by Whitewood the Kind, who was in turn pupil to the incredibly famous Clover the Clever. Not much is known about Whitewood, however many accounts say that Whitewood was actually a deer; one of the last in a race called the Ruebuck, who were able to use their antlers to tap into the powers of nature and use magic. Scrolls and other second-hand accounts (Neither Sparkseeker nor Whitewood kept personal journals, though Whitewood wrote many potion recipes, and Sparkseeker cataloged any spell he happened to discover) never go any further back than when Whitewood began to train Sparkseeker in the ways of magic. Supposedly feeling pity for the lost child, Whitewood trained Sparkseeker in the Everfree Forest, where he learned how to read the auras of things in place of seeing, the art of potions (which Sparkseeker never took a liking to), and the art of magic in combat. Through these, Sparkseeker began to grow a seldom-seen appreciation for the otherwise malicious natural world.

Several years later, Whitewood led Sparkseeker to Canterlot, where he was quickly accpeted into the Royal Court of Canterlot. Whitewood only saw him off, then disappeared into the forest. Records of Whitewood come to a dead halt there. To this day, historians are still investigating what may have become of this mysterious deer. Sparkseeker did however go on to expand upon Starswirl the Bearded and Clover the Clever's research and findings. He constantly pushed the royal families to allow him to enter the Outlands so that he may visit the land of his ancestors, but this was considered forbidden territory, and so his proposal was rejected numerous times. However, with the help of several allies who supported his journey, Sparkseeker and company set off on a journey to the Outlands on their own.

When they returned after three years, They were all arrested, tried, and found guilty of high treason as well as personal betrayal to the Sovereign of Canterlot. Though a few of his allies managed to go into hiding and escaped this punishment, many were exiled from Equestria itself, and Sparkseeker was to serve a life sentence in Canterlot Castle's dungeon, which he did for about five years, before making a daring escape, which nearly resulted in his own death.

He left Canterlot and never went back. As a disgraced pony, many of his works in his tower were burned, so unfortunately most of his research was lost. Whether or not he did eventually find the spell he sought remains unknown, and just like his master, Sparkseeker was never seen or heard from again.

No texts exist that identify Sparkseeker's biological parents.

When he completed his training and made his oath to find the spell that would restore his vision, he supposedly acquired his cutie mark at that very moment.

According to journals kept by his allies, Sparkseeker was seen as a bit smug, despite the fact that his face was almost always using his usual grimace. He enjoyed planning ahead, and while he was very tolerant of non-ponies, he was rather impatient with other earth ponies, pegasi, or unicorns. He was a serious advocate of natural preservation, and in fact he is credited with having the Everfree Forest preserved as a natural reserve, though the validity this claim is not confirmed. He did not pay much attention to authority, and in fact is said to have looked down upon and even pitied the royal family, which made him very unpopular. In a working environment though (such as on the field,) he was very calm and careful, and rarely ever lost his focus, earning him his fame in magical expertise.

Summary: Raised in obscurity, Sparkseeker the Sightless was, as his name implies, a unicorn who was born blind, and sought to find a spell that would restore his sight to his defective eyes. For years he studied, but when that failed to produce the spell he was looking for, he went to the Outlands, against the Sovereign's wishes. When he returned, he was deemed disgraced and most of his research was burned, therefore lost. As for Sparkseeker himself, he left Canterlot and was never seen or heard from again.

  9. Ack, I feel sooooo behind on everything. Oh well, at least I know what I'm working on next!

In the meantime, I have a vector of a sketch I did a while ago! This guy's going to be a Crossover character soon! Anypony else like past scenarios?

  10. Apis slightly shook his head "Ah, it is no good, a lack of variety! Not all honeys are equal to one another! For example, Clover honey is overbearingly sweet, only good really for cooking and such. Now if you want a delicious honey for eating on its own, I'd recommend using flowers from the Razzleberry plant! It's a bit more herbal in taste, and the sweetness is toned down just enough to make it very, very good!" Apis began sucking on the tip of his hoof just thinking about all that honey, but quickly snapped himself back to reality. "...Aaaaaanyways, I suppose I shouldn't be too quick to judge. I'd take one of the small jars on the left side, please." Apis's horn was set aglow with an orange light, and soon after a few bits levitated over to the counter. "I'm sure that it...." Apis trailed off as he began to look to the side. The large, red stallion caught his eye for only a moment. Clearly a working pony, but somepony he'd definitely like to know better. His eyes glinted with the slightest feeling of... oh dear, of all places, certainly not here. Perhaps later, if he could get that one in private. In the meantime, he hid his blushing as best as he could and focused back on Ambrose.

  11. I must certainly say I share your love of insects, and completely agree with your claim that they're really not as bad as people make them out to be!

My name is Alec, most people I know call me that, just go with it. I don't really care!

Welcome, though, to the fandom! To answer your question, OCs are perfectly applicable, they don't need to be from the show! Just take a look at the application guide! If you need help with that or anything else, feel free to ask! I'd be happy to talk with you.

  12. In amidst the conversation, a gold-yellow stallion strolled up to the stand. Despite the fact that he was in Ponyville on a small sightseeing trip, Apis couldn't help but dash toward the fragrant honey stock. After all, he had a special talent in beekeeping and honey as well, and it just sort of became an instinct to be attracted to any signs of the stuff. Smiling with his signature cheery disposition, he pushed his way through the small gathering to the front of the stall. Those ponies seemed to be busy with other things anyways, what was the harm?

Examining the stock itself, Apis observed that most of the honey seemed an even blend of many flowers. No good, said he, but perhaps he was mistaken. He turned an inquisitive eye to the shopkeeper, and said, "Excuse me, sir, but this honey, you produce it, yes? What flowers do you provide for them? Are your hives wood-cased or natural-hanging? What variety of bee do you utilize? Oh, goodness, here I go again, apologies sir, my name is Senyor Apis. I happen to be a connoisseur in the world of honey, and have an apiary myself. Could I, if I may, have the answers to these questions? Then, I would like to purchase a small jar from you. For... review, of course."

Was Apis being too direct with the poor guy? He very much hoped not. Although, honey drives him crazy, and he wouldn't rest until he got a taste for himself, slightly salivating at the thought.
