  1. Years ago I was a serious collector and probably spent over a thousand dollars or more on ponies easily, but then I had financial trouble and sold my collection (this was when g3 came out so I bought a lot of the ponies as they came out in stores. at one point I had everything with Rainbow Dash ever made at the time). Right now I'm avoiding buying anything much FiM if only to prevent myself from going overboard. I think I've probably spent less than a hundred on pony stuff so far over the last year and a half.

  2. I agree, I think this was a 'monsterous' growth from his unhealthy hording. He's growing up fine. But no, no wings, he doesn't have wings. There isn't an animal on earth born with no wings that suddenly has them appear. Nothing wrong with earth dragons :)

  3. I love Rainbow Dash but I am officially sick of seeing her.

I kind of worry this episode was put in solely to make an excuse to make her character less Rainbow Dash-y (cocky, competitive, thoughtless) in the future.

    What I liked:

RD didn't start off boasty at least. She was embarrassed and surprised at her accolades at first.

    Pinkie's Pinke-Sense being used as a superpower

Stalk--I mean Scootaloo having converted her friends into the Rainbow Dash fanclub. And also Bon-Bon :D

    I've saved the grass!

    What I really disliked:

The random geography added to Ponyville SOLELY for plot points for the story. Cliff? Gorge? DAM?! ESPECIALLY a cliff right at the edge of some sort of residential area, so we can't even act like it was some outside section we've not been to.

How...forcasted the end was, at least for me. The ponies all talking about the Mare-Do-Well "Oh, a spell like that she must have STUDIED HARD hint hint" was a bit much. I know I expected Tank to win last week but I was still surprised at how they set it up at the end. This was just too obvious for me (though not for everyone it seems)

How 'Oh, gosh, I guess not being arrogant makes more sence!' line for the moral. I mean reaaally. I expected at least some sort of argument. Or apology. Not "oh yes this makes sense now I am solved.'

I am not HAPPY her friends chose to take this route to teach her a lesson, but given how arrogant she's been before, I'm willing to see this as a 'last resort' situation.

    Man Ponyville is unsafe.

And lord Rainbow Dash's life seems lonely. I hope we see her more with her pet if only because of the fact she seems to have NO ONE, unlike all the other ponies. She doesn't even seem to really hang out with the others as much, given all her cloud time.

  4. Hmm, Winne the Pooh, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pretty much everything Disney was showing in the late 80's and early 90's. Rupert, Garfield and Friends, AHHHH Real Monsters was awesome and too short lived. Hmmm. Rocko's Modern Life, which I kinda see as a proto-spongebob. Ren and Stimpy. A lot of strange stuff on TVO that I barely remember from early childhood like Doctor Snuggles. COUNT DUCKULA! Lots of Warner Bros. Oh, the old X-Men cartoon with Jubilee and crappiness! I looved it!

It's weird, but I also get nostalgia for the late 90's stuff too. I was in late highschool and college and watched a lot of toons, so I have strong memories of stuff I'm way out of the childhood range of, like Recess, Pepper Anne, Weekenders, Filmore!, Arthur, etc.

  5. Also, since I live in France, I always have the impression of hearing the same voices over and over in the cartoons ! Hire more people, you could really use a bit more voice diversity and it will help a bit with lowering the number of people without a job ! xD

Haha, this is a problem also even in English countries (Anime dubs especially use the same voices over and over and OVER.. it used to be even worse)

As a french-enough speaker (not fluent but comfortable listening to it) I agree the voices just sound.. off. Fluttershy is good WHEN SHE'S NOT SINGING, Pinkie sounds too old, Dash sounds too young (like a little boy rather than a tomboy sometimes), Applejack.. I don't even know what they're attempting with her voice half the time. Twilight and Rarity are neutral for me though I'm not thrilled with Rarity's voice, but only because the english actress is SO expressive.

I guess the other niggle is as good as the localization is, some things just didn't work in the French. 'You're going to LOVE ME' translating to 'do you LOVE ME?' doesn't have the same ring for example . (Though I'm singing "L'hiver s'enfuit" RIGHT NOW in spite of how wrongly they translated that.. even totally mutilated that is SUCH A CATCHY TUNE isn't it?)

But then my roommate was watching it one day, and it was on a scene with Willow and Tara being all couple-y, and... What can I say? I am a simple woman, with simple likes. Aaand I watched the series from the beginning so I could get to those bits, but fell in love with the show on the way. I can definitely see how not everyone would like it, or would have problems with some of the writing, though.

    Awww, sweet.

yeah, I suffered through "Let me tell you how hot Spike is!" way too much. I tried to watch for the Willow/Tara but I didn't care for the writing of it. At the time, I felt the whole "Hey I'm a Wicca lesbian" seemed contrived. Dunno how I'd feel now.

That's why I try and be especially loving and tolerant of my non-brony friends, because I know what it's like to be groaning when someone won't shut UP about a show.

    ... which I don't

  7. I don't have a TV or Cable or anything, so any show I watch I have to be able to find online. This was always my issue with Adventure Time, i WANNA watch it, but I prefer stuff I can stream because I don't want to have to torrent EVERYTHING. Currently I enjoy Doctor Who (hard to find online but I will DL that.. I used to go to Chinese sites to torrent but apparently the Beeb got wise to that), QI, and mostly comedy stuff. I used to watch a lot of cartoons when I had cable so I kinda miss that, but I can't afford it anymore.

I do watch some YouTube shows, but my girlfriend's more into that sort of thing so I mostly do to make her happy. It gets akward with my friends because they're much bigger TV watchers than I am, a group of them watch Supernatural together every week for example, and I just never was into TV, all my friends would be Browncoats or Buffy fans when we were teens but I was all 'meh'.

  8. In regards to the message of compromise. It might have fallen flat in the first half of the episode when Sweetie Belle was doing everything she could to make her sister happy, but in the latter half of the episode, she was uncompromisingly opposed to having anything to do with Rarity. Thats where Sweetie Belle's need for compromise comes in. She needed to accept that her sister made a mistake and let her back in.

I also saw by the end she was doing stuff Rarity liked as well (I imagine dress-up is NOT Sweetie Belle's idea of the best thing ever, but Rarity loves it). I think the show did a good job of showing that you can enjoy yourself while compromising, and even if it's not the most fun, it's nice to let others do things that are fun for them as well.

I really like that the show doesn't show everything from the perspective of the smaller child, as is typical for these shows. Rarity had her unreasonable moments but it was pretty obvious Sweetie Belle was doing things she shouldn't as well, rather than just turn it into "Arg adults are so unreasonable!" (or on the other hand "Arg, little sisters are such a pain and always mess things up" which would also have been a poor message). And I liked that it implied from Applejack's talk that even she does things that might be more fun for her sister than her, that she's not the fun sister simply because she likes cool fun stuff, but that it takes work to be seen as that.

I can't say this was my favorite show of the season, but I think as a show I'd show kids it's way up there. The lessons are good, and it was nice to see the first fully non-Twilight letter. Rarity has shown she has great inner strength before, what she LIKES and what she'll do when she needs to are two different things. She's a fancy refined pony, but I wasn't surprised to see she'd get muddy if it meant keeping from loosing her sister's respect and love.

On a final note, as a big sister, I gotta say, I felt for Rarity a lot ;)

  9. Super Mario Bros. when I was little at my best friend's house. I played a few PC games around then too, but I don't remember what they were. Carmen Sandiego I think was one. The first game I played on my own system was Tetris because my parents got me a Game Boy. I played almost no NES games though, it was SNES time too quickly :P

    EDIT:

Oh gosh I forgot about arcades! I'm pretty sure I played THOSE first, because they were around then. I remember playing Centipede and Pac man, but they were already kind of old, in these old play rooms in hotels. I also played a LOT of pinball because my next door neighbour had a machine in their basement that was from the 60's. I got really good on it :D
