1. Anyway great podcast like always :) I got to start hanging about the other parts of this forum :D Moar art!!! It would be cool if you guys discussed the art of the MLP more ^.^ Great way to end the year :3

Thanks for the advise, Rainbolt! Have a happy new year. :D

Admit it ping, the entire purpose of your post was so that you could shout the above quoted line : )

Special thanks to Tenkan for editing out my rant. I sound almost human without it.

Weesh. Aside from the time constraints, I did it to keep you alive!

Decided to listen to this one mainly because Telephone Pictionary got a shout out. :D Thanks for that... but no name drop for yours truly?

Also, you were wrong about AJ's age. In the photo album about 5mins into the episode there are pictures showing AJ and co. at the previous Family reunion, where she looks as she does now. So that's at least her 3rd reunion making her about 16 years old.

But enough nitpicks! Good show guys!

Bah, and sorry for not mentioning it, considering you started the whole thing from day one! I should've jotted that down in my show notes. : C

    Nice episode. :)

Happy to see Telephone Pictionary get a spotlight; that is a very fun game that I've enjoyed participating in ever round since the beginning. When Diego puts the next one up, I encourage all to participated.

Likewise, I'm glad to see Bellosh's blog get featured. It's definitely cool what he does with that. What he chose to feature was great too. Pathfinder is best OC pony. ;)

The interview was fun, but I would say most of the time more substantial answers are more interesting than this sort of lightning round deal. I have to agree with what Weesh said about the Celestia-Luna conflict. It always seems forced and artificial to me. Also, Celestia is best princess.

For the episode discussion, I'd generally agree with much of what was said. I wouldn't put too much weight on the "100 moons" line though. I think Granny Smith is just using an idiom here and just means it's been a long time, not that it's literally been 100 moons. Remember that we actually see the previous Apple Family reunion and its in the first episode, which at very most places it two years ago. Of course, trying to argue the ages of the ponies is, in my opinion, always going to be a misguided cause.

I enjoyed the quick questions, but I agree. I believe doing the lightening round after more standard questions have been established. I did enjoy it nonetheless. :)

Thanks for your continuing feedback, Phil. We don't give you enough credit.

  2. What's up, Canterlot?

I hope everyone had a joyous holiday! :D

I was quite pleased to know that both Weesh and Oil Wells were going to join me in this week's Canterlot Voice. Two fine thinking fellows for finishing this year's final podcast.

    Podcast Podcast Podcast!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I had to type that because some people, like me, prefer to use less words and more exclamation marks.

  3. Review time!

It feels so good to be back to Middle Earth, and Peter Jackson made me feel at home as the entire movie was completely indulgent to the magical world.

I have to admit, though, the theme is a lot merrier and a lot more magical than Lord of the Rings.

I assume because in Lord of the Rings all of Middle Earth is at stake and the magical realm is either mostly dying or dead (poor Ents), and the Hobbit is based not on politics, but on this quest to save the mountain.

Also, seeing Bilbo living through the tales that he spoke of made me feel all warm inside. Especially since they looked so epic in contrast to how he'd humbly give little hints or references to 'his little adventures'.

Bilbo's character is the most one I enjoyed. Modest and brave. :)

    My complaints?

    - CGI looked different from Lord of the Rings (except for Gollum, he looked if not the same then better)

    - As a set alone film (pushing off my love for Middle Earth and the Lord of the Rings films to back it up) it does lack an ultimate climax, since the many other previous epic fights had slightly numbified the 'final battle scene'.

    - I really wished we had more of a chance to get to know the dwarves at a personal level, when they're not too busy adventuring the whole time.

    Awesome scenes?

    - The Necromancer's appearance! I loved that! It freaked the heck out of me in the cinema, that's for sure. I can't wait to see more of Sauron's power growing throughout the story.

    - The meeting between Gandalf, Elrond, Lady Galadriel and Saruman. The whole time I'm going all "Saruman is such a faker!" D:

    - The brilliant intro! I just loved the beginning. It took its' time, but it was very well done, I believe. From the prologue and after, with the dwarves stopping by Bilbo's little hobbit hole. :)

    - The whole movie, perhaps?

  4. What's up, Canterlot?

It's been a long break, and now the Winter has come, so it's time to get back to podcasting!

We've individually had our hands full, but leave it to Nemmy to start things up again and save the show, with our local cyanide addict Linkhopper on board!

Also, we got a special typed interview with Steel Eagle that we got to show you, too. It's all in the show notes, fillies and gentlecolts. ;)

    Steel Eagle Interview

How did you first become a brony?

I was babysitting my niece, who was six at the time, back in February 2011. I forget the episode- but she wanted to watch pony. I remember now; it was Sonic Rainboom! Yeah, it was Saturday and we had The Hub. She was flipping through it while playing with my cat and she saw pony and demanded we stop, so we did. We watched it and, well, Sonic Rainboom was pretty legit.

When my wife came home I told her all about it; she laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed, but then we started looking it up on YouTube. By the end of the day, we were both so taken in by the show's innate charm and optimism that we were hooked on it like a drug.

Who is your favourite character from the show?

Applejack! She is a hard, hard, hard worker and I've always loved characters who were so dedicated. I'm a welder at a shipyard; it's hard work, so I relate to her in that way, and I find her attitude both optimistic while remaining grounded. She has a lot of room for fantastic character development and growth and beyond her accent she hasn't been pigeonholed. Applejack is just solid and dependable and provides excellent grounding for the show. Other characters wouldn't be as funny without the 'straight pony' to play off of.

What is your favourite episode from the first two seasons?

I'm not going to include any of the two-parters as it is an unfair comparison. So I'll say...probably Suited for Success, but that's right up there with a half-dozen others.

My favorite Season 2 episode was The Last Roundup, but season 1 had Suited for Success, Sonic Rainboom, Winter Wrap-Up, Fall Weather Friends, and Party of One. They are all up there, pretty even, but Suited for Success did a marvellous job developing a character that otherwise would be extremely vain and boring, so it gets the nudge. If we include two parters, then my favourite would be A Canterlot Wedding.

    How did you discover Canterlot?

I got a spur up my bum one day and decided to Google “My Little Pony Roleplay”. I looked at a half dozen different sites before I decided on Canterlot. Canterlot is an addictive place and as a member of the Helpstaff team, I can see how it has designed to be so. The rules are made for cast, so when you read a Canterlot cast roleplay, it feels so much better than any other place I've seen. It's been the major advantage and recruitment tool of the forum's RP.

What’s the story behind your username?

A long time ago, I wanted to write a science-fiction story about a civil war between the core worlds of a human empire and the outer rim planets. The Steel Eagles were a sort of mercenary black ops unit. I just like the name and use it sometimes. Seems rather unique, but then again, I'm not all that creative.

Care to tell our listeners about your experience on Canterlot since you started? The positives and the negatives, if you can think of any.

The positives vastly outnumber the negatives. I believe that is less due to any special structure of the forum as it is the fandom itself. I tend to focus on the RP side of things, so my views are distorted, however I think that the RP here has been insanely enjoyable. People are smart, funny, willing to help, and there is less drama than in other places. It's hard to mention one positive because there are so many.

As for negatives, there’s nothing dramatic or special. I wish some people would chill out and take things a little less seriously, but that's about it.

What’s your favourite section of the site?

The Mane RP is where I reside. I don't post in Chit Chat or Spam Stables all that often; of my 1,700 posts, it's a decent wager that at least 1,300-1,400 of them are Mane RP posts. That number is gonna get more and more imbalanced as my self-propagation of pony postin' continues. XD

What were your thoughts on Sleepless in Ponyville?

It was an excellent episode. The first one of the season that I think didn't have any real flaws or move too fast. It had a lot of cute, adorable little moments. Hopefully it will get interest in Scootaloo rising, seeing as she is available to be app'd for in the Mane RP. Rainbow Dash also got some good development, and moved up in the pony rankings for me.

    10/10 overall, would d'aww again.

Lastly any shout-outs you would like to give out to our listeners?

  5. Everything was awesome in this. Spitfire did go through a personality switch, but I actually liked her new one.

I like how the Wonderbolts actually had an academy, and wasn't just a club you could join by doing a favour. That's the impression I got in the first season.

On another note, I actually am starting to like RD more. I always found her my least favorite...but these latest two episodes have been pretty good. :)

  6. Had so much fun watching this episode, with so many funny scenes. ^^

I thought we'd never get a Scootaloo episode...and when we did, it turned out to be something we all wanted. A better relationship with Rainbow Dash, Luna proving why she's the protector of the night, Sweetie Belle being Rarity's doormat, and Apple Jack ever being the reasonable pony trolling RD's stories ("If it doesn't have a head, then how in tarnation does this pony know where it's going?").

I'm officially wanting more CMC stories! Plus, the soundtrack was particularly good. Is it me, or did it sound like Toy Story music every now and then?

  7. Oh, yes, finally.

One more last soundtrack. I've been trying to remember its name and where I've heard it, and finally managed to achieve that:

This soundtrack made me consider that game one of the best SW games out there in market. It had a great story, really cunning and action-packed missions, awesome gameplay. But all of this wouldn't be remembered if not this music, which underlined the atmosphere really strong.

Whoever didn't play it and likes shooters with an element of tactics, I recommend Star Wars: Republic Commando. You won't regret it. I did not to an extend in which I've replayed the game about 4-5 times. It's just so great. (Just remember, don't play it on 'easy'. It removes all the experience you should get. The harder it is, the more interesting gameplay, because an example: Some missions require you to f.e. close the doors before the amount of enemies overwhelms you. On easy, you simply resist them all in melee... On hard, you actually had to start acting before they even appear if you hoped for survival. Therefore, normal to start with is a good choice :) )

    Awwww, yeah!

Lucas Arts fail so much for not making a sequel to this. IT SHOULD HAPPEN!

  8. I always get this feeling with my little brother all the time. Now, I might be wrong for thinking like this, but I only wish for him the best and want him to become a better person than I am. I'm not his parent, but I can't help getting this feeling towards his growth. :/

He sees me buying an RD toy, yet I wouldn't like to see him buy one because I feel like he just shouldn't...yet.

The thing is, I don't want him to grow up differently than I have. Then again...my little pony wasn't as good back then.

I did used to watch Power Puff Girls when I was a kid...meh...

I think it's perfectly normal, Weesh. If he really wants the My Little Pony toy, get 'em one. I don't think it 'ruins his chances of better masculinity'. Now, I'm not sure if you were worrying about that, but I tend to, sometimes.
