I’ve been missing my letters to Celestia. I’ve had lots going on over the last couple weeks that have been taking me away from any inspiration I had to write. I promise I’ll get back to it soon.

Dear Princess
I’ve arrived safely in Fet Loch after a harrowing and narrow escape from the authorities of Roam. I’ve definitely learned my lesson to be a little more discrete in my appearances since that fiasco! Since then I’ve learned to scout the town before making an entrance. I should have remembered all that I’d learned during my inhabitation near Ponyville. Some ponies just don’t quite understand a non-pony creature. Would you believe that during my journey, I didn’t see one griffon? I guess they just do not range that far east of Canterlot.
Fet Loch is a charming little town located beside the lake of the same name (Loch! A charming way of saying ‘Lake’ in the local language, don’t you think? I love it very much!). It resembles Ponyville largely in its simple structure. All the buildings here are built with a local stone mined from a quarry not far from here. Each is very sturdy and few of them rise more than one story. As a result, larger buildings usually cover the same area as several smaller ones, though some with a second floor tend to be stockier around the base and made with larger stone. I had the chance to watch them working on a house. These ponies certainly have a very strong knowledge in masonry and how to fit stones together without the use of mortar! Somehow each piece just happens to fit exactly right so it results in a strong, well-built structure. The wall around the town alone took several years to build, I’m told, and is quite a sight to see!
The ponies here are largely earth ponies, though a few unicorns also make their home in this quiet little town. Most of their time is spent quarrying new stones for buildings that have yet to be built, and repairing the damage from others from storms or the occasional dragon visit. Evidently, dragons seem to appear often enough that much of their culture derives from local encounters. The main hostel is even named the Dragon Lance, for example. Yet somehow, even for their frequent run-ins with the wildlife, they thrive and are a rich and hearty people.
I had thought only female ponies wore skirts and dresses, but it seems that here even the males wear skirts, too! Though they call them ‘kilts’ here. Each one is unique, and their colors relate to the ‘clan’ that they are from. The colors are very vibrant and have meaning behind them, and no two pony’s kilts are exactly the same, though more than one will have a similar pattern. The kilt of the family I am currently staying with is a vibrant green with yellow piping and a red stripe around the hem. I would appreciate it if you could find it in your heart to send them a little something on my behalf for their kindness and hospitality.
The lake of Fet Loch is a murky and reportedly deep lake, and it’s also very cold. There are no hippocamps here, though I have heard tell of a local legend of a sea serpent that became trapped in this lake and has lived there ever since. Everyone has a story that a friend of a friend has told, but nopony I have spoken with will claim to have seen it for themselves. Her name escapes me at the moment, but I’m sure there are references somewhere in the Canterlot archives about it. It’s mysterious!
A local drink called ‘grog’ took me quite surprise. It’s hideous, foul, murky like the local lake and tastes like something the pony dragged in. I can’t wait to have some more! The first night I tried some ended up being the first night in a long time I can remember waking up with such a hangover on a table. Lucky for me, it’s apparently not unusual and I have been promised I didn’t make too much of a fool of myself. Later this week I’ve been told there will be a competition called ‘caber tossing’ where ponies use their great feats of strength to throw trees! I can’t wait to see it, it should prove to be impressive. While the locals are somewhat rough and rustic (absolutely nothing like the frilly folk of Canterlot!) their society is very close-knit and big hearted. I will certainly be making a return someday.
But sad as I am to say, I will have to leave on my journeys elsewhere and I’m sorry to have to leave them behind. My Pegasus Friend may be a little late delivering this letter, as she had almost as much grog as I did and left somewhat unsteadily. Please do make sure she gets an extra day of rest when she delivers my letter, as I can promise she deserves it after all the hard work she’s put in. Since the town of Hoofenheim isn’t nearly as far as Roam was, I should be able to make it a short trip and she knows to find me there.
Another of Twilight Sparkle’s friends, the unicorn Rarity, is one of the most beautiful creatures in Ponyville. Her element of generosity shows itself constantly, and it goes very well with her fashion sense. This pony’s business in Ponyville of making dresses that have been sold far and wide (I’ve even seen some of the simpler ones here in Fet Loch!) is certainly a very successful venture. Coupled with her talent of finding some of the most beautiful gems, Rarity can turn out some incredibly eye-catching designs.
However, I know this pony perhaps the least, though her fame makes her appear earlier in my letters than I would have otherwise chosen. Rarity sometimes gets a little self-centered and short-sighted and it tends to be a source of her conflicts, along with the occasional character-building adventure. Frequent visitors to her shop, aptly named the Carousel Boutique can almost always find what they’re looking for to look their best. If not immediately, Rarity will definitely do her best to design something that suits that pony to a T. She will stop at nothing until the customer leaves satisfied and happy!
But due to the traffic, I never got the chance to actually pay her a visit myself, and perhaps I regret this the most. When I return to Ponyville, I hope to remedy this. Which reminds me, Pinkie Pie sent me the most delightful little care package full of cookies and cupcakes, which was a complete surprise. Of course, I know Pinkie had trouble making sure the treats actually made into the box, which is why this gift was all the more welcome. I’ve shared some with some of the townspeople of Fet Loch, and I’m sure she may even be getting some future orders from a faraway place!
If it weren’t for the fact that I must keep moving as I explore the world, I’d definitely stay here in Fet Loch a little longer, but I don’t want to overstay my welcome.
As always, your faithful servant,

Dear Princess Celestia,
I’m sorry that my letter was late this week. Unfortunately, my visit to Roam wasn’t all I expected it to be. It turns out that some things here are more than meets the eye. The Colosseum? You might want to send some of your guards out here to investigate. What I thought was simply a show with lions actually turns out to be something a lot less nice. I was mistaken for a simple forest beast when I came into Roam, and no amount of explanation got me out of the cage I was in. It took a bit of effort from my Pegasus Friend to find me, and help me escape, and I’ve been spending much of the last few days working my way out of town.
That being said, the city itself is beautiful. It’s very well designed (Which is why it was so hard for me to escape). The architecture is beautiful, and in some ways, reminds me of Canterlot. I wouldn’t suppose that you found inspiration for Canterlot from Roam? Or perhaps the other way around, maybe? The food here smells heavenly as well. During my escape, I managed to snag a bit of something called a ‘pizza’. It’s a large disk of bread covered in some kind of tangy sauce, and topped with vegetables and cheese. Maybe you should see if you can bring some of it to Canterlot sometime, I imagine it’d be a very big hit!
Just about everything in Roam is made with a kind of white marble they get from a nearby quarry. I’m amazed at how much they have accomplished given all they have to work with, and the artisans here have such an incredible eye for detail, it’s amazing. I’ve seen statues you could believe were living creatures! Unfortunately, their eye for color seems to fall squarely on the primary colors, there are great swaths of reds, yellows, and blues. I’ve managed to hide against some of the frescoes by posing against them and sending suggestions to ponies that happen nearby that I’m a part of one.
Coming back to the Colusseum, it seems to be their main source of entertainment. Everything from plays to combat takes place here. I would believe that the sands in the stadium are more than just a little stained with the blood of hapless combatants. Typically only ferocious beasts like Manticores, Bears, and Lions are made to fight each other. I’ve been told that death rarely occurs, and they always have unicorns on hand to ensure that the battles never last longer than they have to. Some of the beasts I was caged nearby were covered in scars and missing swaths of fur on their pelts and looked generally unhappy. At least they are fed well, to keep up their strength, but the impression I got from the captives was that this wasn’t a fun place to be.
I had almost given up hope when my pegasus friend found me. She managed to sneak in dressed as a citizen who was hoping to tour the facilities, and left me a small piece of wire with which I managed to jimmy the latch on the cage. I have such a headache, the Roaman guards have very guarded minds and making suggestions that I wasn’t there was very difficult and draining. If it wasn’t for snatches of this ‘pizza’, I would have been very weakened. Many of my cousins were there too, I imagine that I would have eventually been pitted against at least one of them. I’ve never been much of a fighter, Princess, none of my kind ever has if we can help it.
I’m going to be making my next destination the town of Fet Loch, across the mountains. Perhaps by dodging through the foothills and across the pass, I might lose any possible pursuit that may be out looking for me. I think I cost somepony a pretty bit by making my escape. Perhaps once there in Fet Loch, I can rest in the company of some friendlier ponies and recover my dignity. My pegasus friend will know where to find me, she’s been very helpful in guiding me on my way.
In this letter, I’m going to share with you my thoughts on Pinkie Pie. As uplifting and upbeat a pony she is, thinking about her will help make my journey easier and less harrowing.
Pinkamina Diane Pie, as I’ve been told her name is, is an incredibly energetic and enthusiastic pony. Her main reason for existence seems to be to bring about smiles and happiness to everypony she meets. Truly, her parties are legend, and it’s very rare that a delicious snack goes past her without being devoured. She’s also quite a proficient baker, spending much of her time in Sugarcube Corner. This pink pony truly delights in making everypony around her smile and laugh, and I’ve certainly been no exception. On the few forays into town I’ve made, there were times she saw through my disguise but made no attempt to expose me for what I was. I think she’s wiser than she lets on, she truly appears to believe in a zest for life that is unparalleled by any other pony I’ve ever met.
On the few occasions when even her own store of energy runs out, she seems to be able to find a new source of delight and chaos that brings her right back up to her usual self. Her unkempt mane is an indication of her enthusiasm and loss of control is merely a facade for the pony that truly cares about everyone she’s ever met. I had come to rely on the blueberry muffins she’d leave out for me on days she somehow knew I was coming to visit, they were always warm and delicious, I suggest you try one someday. Without Pinkie Pie, I’m afraid that Ponyville would quickly become a very dull and boring place, as she seems to singlehandedly keep the town in stitches, as exasperating her unbridled joy can get sometimes.
For being the element of laughter, she truly is the pony who embodies this spirit. Even thinking about her now brings smiles to my face through my journey. I can only hope to meet another pony even half as delightful as her. While I know her likely less than others of Twilight Sparkle’s friends, she’s one I think I would truly count a real friend amongst ponies in Ponyville and look forward to having another muffin at Sugarcube Corner in her company.
And so, in closing, I promise I will try to have another letter to you sooner than this last. I think I may spend a little more time in Fet Loch recuperating, and I hear there’s even a mysterious creature that lives in the lake there!
Your faithful servant,

Well, I suppose that depends on what you mean by permanent impression! Though there was a run in with a bear not too long ago (Thank Celestia, just a regular bear and not an Ursa Minor or Major!) that did leave a few marks in my flank that still twinge from time to time… I did come across a small family of hippocamps in Hoofington when I was checking out the beach scene. Hippocamps! Have you ever seen the like! They’re like half pony, half dolphin! I’d never seen one before. They were a delightful family, and their little fry (I think that’s what they called their foal) was just a fun little thing. She would do some of the most acrobatic leaps from the water! I never did catch their names, though. I hear they have some Lions and Tigers in Roam! Perhaps I’ll catch a show while I’m there. The Colosseum (That’s fancy for a big outdoor theatre) is a sight to see, I’m told, and that’s where they have most of their shows.
It’s rather strange, I haven’t had to disguise myself once since I started my journey. All these years living just outside Ponyville and I find out that most of the ponies I’ve met thus far, seem to be very accomodating!

Perytons cannot fly, my dear Blueberry Blossom. We do have wings and we can glide, but we’re a lot like flying squirrels. We need some height (and a good stiff breeze helps, too!) but we just don’t have the muscle for it. Ever seen a fat deer? It looks funny. Plus, we’d have to compete with Pegasus ponies!

I see all sorts of things in my travels, from interesting ponies to unusual things. I did see on my recent leg of my trip to Hoofington a strange little structure on the side of the road. I’m not sure what it was for, but it looked like a little house with a bunch of candles in it. There was a sign but I couldn’t read what it said. I think it was some kind of lamp post, but I’ve never seen one like it before and there was just the one. It was so pretty, I had to stop and look at it for a little while. I don’t suppose you might know what it was?

I usually have to stick to travelling at night, though, I’m still not used to crowds of ponies or even being seen, so it’s natural to keep to the trees. Though I can see ahead that I’ll be crossing a lot of grasslands, so I suppose I’ll have to bite the stick and come out. The folks in Hoofington seemed to be alright, so far so good! My next destination appears to be Roam, according to the signs.

This letter was unexpected! It arrived by another pegasus pony, one I guess must have been a friend of the one who delivers my letters to the Princess.

Aww, you think I’m adorable? That’s sweet of you to say! I’m just an old deer. But thank you for your kind letter, you sweet self!

Gosh, that would be a horrible thing. I don’t know what I would do! I would hope they would grow back! Perytons don’t lose their horns like regular deer do. They’re kinda like unicorn horns, without them we’re sorta powerless! Though there was one time when I got them all tangled up in some low hanging branches and I wished they could come off then…but then I got out of them and it was all better!

If anyone wants to ask me questions about what I see during my travels, I will most definitely do my best to answer them! In fact, having questions about what I see will definitely allow me to tailor my letters to the Princess. I will always make sure in my previous letter to indicate where I am headed so you may know ahead of time. Please! Ask me questions!

Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I finally arrived in Hoofington and thus begins my official exploration of Equestria and the lands beyond. While I actually will not be exploring the lands beyond the sea just yet, I felt that Hoofington was a good place to start. It’s a nice little town, the population is actually a little bit larger than Ponyville as I’m sure you know. You may be interested to know that my initial appearance here sparked outrage before they realized that I was not, in fact, the return of Trixie. If I should come across her in my travels, I should like to have a word with her. From what I’ve heard, she’s a good show pony but her tact and ego apparently leave much to be desired.
Hoofington has some taller buildings than Ponyville, though because of its proximity to Seasaddle Bay and the waters beyond, many of the ones on the shore are on what the locals call stilts. Stilts! Can you believe this? I have been told that it’s for when the waters rise during a storm surge, to prevent the houses from floating away. What a clever idea! I shall have to remember this, it could come in handy somewhere. Many of the houses here are decorated with pretty seashells, some of which even remind me of your mane. When you hold one up to your hear, you can hear the ocean, no matter where you are. That’s true magic, indeed!
A delicious dish they have down here is something they call a fruit kebab. If you have never tried one, I highly recommend it! Though I would also recommend you stay away from the ones that have spicy peppers on them. I am assured that the combination of spicy and sweet is very tasty, my watering eyes and sour stomach later would disagree. Yet the grilled pineapple and peach had a very nice smoky aftertaste that I’m sure you would enjoy, particularily when dipped in chocolate.
I did not have the opportunity to try very many other dishes as I certainly had to move on. I’ve already spent three days here, and apparently my species is as scarce here as it is in Ponyville. I have already recieved two offers for my antlers, and one of them even offered to help speed up the falling off process. What a pity for them that my antlers do not fall off during the winter, unlike my more mundane cousins. Nor can I fly, though I have had to demonstrate how quickly I can run when confronted by too-curious townsfolk.
All in all, I would recommend at least a vacation retreat to the town of Hoofington to your Majesty, as well as possibly the occasional visit. While I am told that the storms here can be quite fierce on account of their proximity to water, the Seasaddle Bay is a wonderful place to take a dip (as they call it), and the feeling of the salty water in your hide is actually quite refreshing when you remove it during bathing later. Something about the air definitely has agreed with my nostrils too, and that pesky sneeze I picked up early this Fall has not followed me here.
My next report shall concern Rarity. The Element of Generosity, Rarity has quite frequently at times demonstrated this in her treatment of her friends. Though it is very peculiar and difficult to separate true generosity when she also devotes herself to a venture designed to bring herself a reward as well, nevertheless this unicorn outshines even herself from time to time. Rarity’s fashion sense is without parallel, and you may even be surprised to know that I prefer her outfits to many I have seen from Hoity Toity’s shop. I’m sure he has likely shivered somewhere without knowing why as a result of my writing that.
Her additional talent of seeking gems (Or perhaps, I should say, her primary talent) comes in very handy during her outfit making. I have never seen a unicorn integrate gemstones into clothing as beautifully as she does! Her attitude often contrasts the beauty she displays in her work, making it often difficult to know how to handle her. I have personally witnessed one meltdown after another over the smallest of things, while also having seen her as a pillar of strength when she needs to be. Her sister, Sweetie Bell, has such a fawning adoration of her big sister, and I am reminded to tell you of the Cutie Mark Crusaders having found my cave in Whitetail Wood sometime.
Her treatment of Sweetie Bell could use more guidance. Only recently I have learned that she participated in the Sisterhooves Social games held in Sweet Apple Acres, though I did not get the chance to watch. My sister, Stormy, has not been around in quite some time and even if she were, I doubt she would deign to make an appearance even for my sake. I was surprised to hear that Rarity hid in a mud pit for the better part of five minutes, right before a race started, where she traded places with Applejack! Though she did not begin the race with Sweetie Bell, she certainly finished in second place with her sister, proving that when she’s put on the right track she can show with the best ponies.
With more guidance from Your Majesty as well as her friends, I’m certain Rarity will grow more into the generous mare I know she will become someday. She still has many growing pains to endure, as we all do, and her learning experiences with her sister will certainly be quite different from Applejack’s experiences with Applebloom. It is a pity that Scootaloo’s sister has not been readily found, and if I had more time, I should have tried to cultivate more her relationship with Rainbow Dash, or perhaps a more reliable Pegasus Pony as a role model. Unfortunately, I must cut my letter short here, or my friend will find herself unable to deliver this volume in a timely manner.
And so I close, and I will send you a letter the next week from my visit in Roam. I hear this city rivals Manehattan, and I am looking forward to my arrival there.
Yours Truly,
Skye

Dear Princess Celestia,
Tonight I’ve begun my journey from Ponyville into parts unknown. I’m on the road heading away from Ponyville through the Whitetail Wood. Already I have passed Canterlot Castle (If only I had known it was there all these years, I might have visited sooner!) and am some distance into the night. When you bring the sun up, it will be over a sky I have yet to have seen and from there, new adventures await me.
As I promised, I have more to say about Twilight Sparkle’s friends. Though I do not know them all quite as well as I would have liked, nevertheless my opinions remain those of a peryton who has done his best to learn what he needs through distant observation. So these following reviews will be done in order of greatest to least I know them, and as I’ve said previously, I hope they provide you more insight into your protoge.
Applejack, as the Element of Honesty, has proven herself time and time again to be quite a versatile pony. While not a lady by any stretch of the imagination, she still contains the poise and elegance of one when she chooses, and displays the more tomboyish side on other days. Primarily a working pony, she gives herself wholly to the citizens of Ponyville by providing them food and a steadfast friendship to any pony who needs her help. She has come to town to divert a dangerous stampede, she’s organized a workforce to clear the fields after winter, and she’s shown up to one of your dreadful Galas dressed to the nines.
Even during the Discord incident, she proved herself to be still a loyal and dependable pony, even if her mouth was saying things she didn’t truly mean. One could interpret what she had to say if one simply remembered that she wasn’t telling the truth then. She stayed with Twilight through the maze (From what I could see of it, anyway, Canterlot isn’t exactly an easy place to approach from any angle!) and was the first pony to be released when Twilight realized how important her friendships truly were. This makes Applejack one of the more prominent figures of Ponyville and a true blue friend to Twilight Sparkle, and one who I feel will continue to be a great influence on her through the rest of her life as long as she makes her home in Ponyville.
In closing, I would like to say that of any of the ponies that I would have truly felt comfortable showing myself to, it would have been Applejack. I think she would have truly accepted me for what I was, just as she does any pony who she encounters for the first time. It is this strength of character that truly makes her one of the strongest Elements of Harmony.

Dear Princess Celestia,
It has been quite some time since I was able to send you a letter. During the stewardship of the Whitetail Wood you empowered me with, I have had little to no opportunity to send you a letter before, but recently I have found a pegasus pony who has agreed to help me relay these from here on in. Since the arrival of your student, Twilight Sparkle in Ponyville, there has been little to no need for me to continue watching the road through the wood for troubles. As she has since aquired the power of the Elements of Harmony and Discord is no longer a threat, my stewardship has come to an end. As such, I feel that I can still best serve you in capacity with the years remaining to my life by exploring as much of Equestria as I am able. My pegasus pony friend will ensure that my letters arrive to you as quickly as possible throughout my travels.
Before I leave, however, I will be glad to share with you my thoughts and impressions on your student and her friends, as a parting gift for the years of service I have been able to provide you previously. May they provide you with the insight and inspiration these ponies have given me throughout my life.
Included in this letter is my evaluation of the unicorn, Twilight Sparkle.
Twilight Sparkle’s arrival in Ponyville was unexpected and not an easy thing for a young unicorn such as herself to bear. Her years of direct study beneath you prepared her for the knowledge and techniques necessary to explore her new position and tasks in Ponyville, but her social interaction still left much to be desired. I have had only occasional interaction directly with this young mare, but my impressions of her have been found pleasant and encouraging. Twilight Sparkle’s future in Ponyville is certainly assured as a prominent member of the community. Her demonstration of skill in handling both the perils and rewards of a burgeoning friendship with new ponies have shown that she will not be soon forgotten. It has been clear in her handling of Nightmare Moon and dealing with Discord that she is resourceful and steadfast, even when her own heart seems to question her ability.
When you asked me to watch over the Whitetail Wood and Ponyville, I had no idea that events would have lead up to current, and I am glad to say that they have worked out surprisingly well considering. The zebra, Zecora, agrees with me that Ponyville may have once been a town that was somewhat xenophobic in the past but has been no longer since Twilight Sparkle’s arrival. Whenever she previously came to town, she often found that the windows were shuttered and the doors were locked, and the marketplace was mysteriously closed. Before Twilight Sparkle’s arrival, as you know, I would assist Zecora in gathering her ingredients but you will be proud to know that this is no longer necessary. Zecora has been welcomed in town as a member of the community due to the efforts of your student.
This young unicorn’s continued studies of the Magic of Friendship will certainly lead her into many dark places, but together with her friends it is my opinion that she will shine. Her handling of each day to day pitfall that she encounters only further reinforces my opinion that she will do well in her new home. Her manifestly subtle sense of humor and adorable geekiness shows that within that businesslike and studious exterior lies a sweet and caring young lady who will someday take her place in society as a figure of greatness. I only hope that I will still be around then to witness it for myself.
My review of your student is not completely full of praise, however, as it is my opinion that she still is lacking in a few social graces. Her dedication to you may be admirable, but I can see that someday this will serve to her detriment as she makes future life choices. Her disinterest in romance, for example, may come to a head if she feels that she must choose between a stallion of interest and yourself. I’m sure you would agree with me that this aspect of her future cannot be ignored. In addition, her obsession with her books may also mark her as a know-it-all when it comes to how the world really works and someday may backfire and cost her some ‘cool points’ (as her friend Rainbow Dash would be inclined to say) and could affect how others percieve her. Surely you remember how the unicorn Trixie appeared when she arrived in Ponyville. I hope that my fears are merely figments, however, and we will see what the future will bring.
This concludes my evaluation of Twilight Sparkle and this letter. Should it please you, responses can either return by this pegasus or by dragon in the usual manner and I will recieve them.
Always your servant,
Skye

I’m glad you like my blog! Obsessed? Dear me, that sounds dangerous. I hope you don’t mean like ‘I plan to turn you into caramel’ sort of obsessed. That would be weird. Where is Crushmatches(Dot)Com? It sounds foreign! Somewhere out in the far lands of Unyari perhaps? I’ve never been there. Never been out of Equestria proper, in fact. Matter of fact, I’ve never been any farther than the Everfree Forest! I held still for a few moments for body pictures once, but all I got was a bowl of fruit! I love free things, but what’s a C C?
