  1. Scotchie is right about the toys or any marketable items; it will be done third party as licensed by Hasbro. Their Marketing department is going to continue to focus on the traditional audience; this is painfully obvious through the FiM merchandise they do release. Outside of that it is whatever fans create (that is how I received anything FiM related I own; through fans modding the original figures to look like the show).

I do hope they release the full seasons on DVD/Blu-Ray; which is pretty likely as most cartoon series are fully released on these platforms over time if seen as popular.

As for watching current episodes, Youtube is still around and there are channels who show them (a 30 second search will reveal any episode, in high definition). Even there Youtube is not the only video sharing site (Dailymotion, Veoh, etc), just by far the largest. As for people who feel they have to download episodes directly, that will always be an option as long as someone is willing to record the episodes on TV and upload them somewhere on the 'net. Yes I know that is illegal; I am just pointing out the obvious: This being the Internet, it is there for anyone to find with little relative effort. In short, your pony is still available whatever means you choose to watch.

    In short:

Now, how to get this message to every single brony who'll be put off by the idea of Hasbro clamping down... I'm thinking some sort of broad range telecommunication device.

  2. I guess I can understand them taking down the archives, because that was a way for people to download, keep, share episodes for free. Eventually Hasbro might have a loss that way. Youtube, on the other hand, doesn't involve any downloading, so viewers aren't getting anything 'to keep', and makes much more sense as a marketing device. Therefore, although the Ponyarchive thing doesn't worry me too much, the fact that some Youtube channels have been taken down worries me more. Before we said it was trolls, but with this message being sent, who's to say?

Also, keeping the archive up was a stupid idea in my opinion, and that idiotic response they sent only made it worse. We definitely don't want to start a war here.

This whole thing seems ominous. It makes me anxious for the future of ponies, and more specifically for people like me, outside of the US, who would happily buy episodes from iTunes if only they were able...

  3. This is exactly what I was thinking. I've done this with a few computers that had bad power supplies, and saved a quite a few headaches for people who thought they'd lost all of their everything.

Which is why I write all of my RP posts (or any long posts in general) in Notepad and copy/paste them into my browser after proofreading. :P

I used to do that. But I decided it was much more of a thrill to live life on the edge, know what I'm sayin'? *puts shades on and lies on a cloud*

  4. Yeah, as I say, I am hopeful.

But once again, I think we find that this is one of the little problems of Season 2 that stems off of Twilight not being the only one who writes letters to Celestia. In a weird, topsy-turvy way - not only Twilight writing letters = less interraction between mane cast members = more focus on individuals = less of each of the other mane cast members = less Pinkie = less chance for her to be random and adorable.

    Is SCIENCE!

  5. Not at all. It makes me see Pinkie as a "Come in, make joke, get out" character, which I hate. I liked pinkie being adorable and funny anytime she was on the screen, which was quite a bit. Season 2 seems to focus on one character, is how I feel. Season one seemed to deal with problems involving two friends. Season 2 seems to deal with more inwardly problems. Greed, impatience, Not Fitting In, etc. I dunno...

I totally agree with everything you just said. I was kind of tip-toeing 'round it in my opening post because I didn't want to sound negative about Season 2, but that pretty much sums up my opinion on the matter

  6. I feel like there is, indeed, less Pinkie humor. But the humor that is shown seems to be a lot more... 'Out there' so to speak. That's just how it feels to me.

Like her "Oh make it stop!" line, and "I'm assaulting him with cake!" one. The randomness just seems further out there in less quantity. That's only how I see it though.

Do you prefer the more 'out-there' humour?

I prefered it as it was...

  7. Well... one: nobody seems to want to write a few scripts for me. Two: I'm told I yell too much and then no one's willing to help. I think I expect too much from everyone... :-(

Maybe you could try dialling down the Rainbow Dash and dialling up the Fluttershy a bit, fella! :P

  8. I noticed that too. I'm really hoping that we get more of that in the second half. so far we only have the synopsis for two more episodes, so um... I just lost my train of thought... something about more stuff to come...

    ._.

    I forget

Yeah, it's not like I've got no faith in the future, or anything. Like, everyone was complaining there were no songs in general, and some of us said 'wait', and sure enough, we've had a couple now, with Pinkie Pie's one on its way.

Only, at this point in the first season, we'd had, like, six mini-songs too :(

  9. I'm generally not one for complaining about season 2 - I'd much rather withold my opinions until the whole thing's out and we can see the big picture, and to be fair this isn't so much a complaint as simply voicing a concern...

Probably the main thing I miss about season 1 is Pinkie Pie's random musical outbursts. I don't mean songs like 'Giggle at the Ghostly' or 'You Gotta Share', I just mean little random snippets, the mini-songs like the two in Ticket Master, and 'Hop Skip and a Jump' from Dragonshy, or even 'Cupcakes' or 'Evil Enchantress'.

I know there's a leaked song that Pinkie's going to sing eventually (haven't listened to it since I'd rather be surprised when the episode comes out), but I miss the little quirky musical numbers she used to come out with off (seemingly) the top of her head.

And for that matter, as I'm re-watching Season 1 I've noticed there's a lot less Pinkie-humour in the Season 2 episodes in general.

So, I'm curious as to other opinions on this - do you think the mini-songs will make a comeback? I hope so :D

  10. I really need to start reading fanfics, but it's hard to know where to start. I've seen a few that get updated on EqD, and they're like epics that go on forever, and that's a little daunting.

But if anyone knows any good starting fanfics to read, please point me in thattaway direction (shipping or no shipping is fine, but please, no grimdark ).

And to answer the question, I don't mind shipping, though I hope there are at least some fanfics out there that are straight-up FiM, like they could be an episode. That's a cool idea to me, and if ever I write one, I'll write it like an episode.

  11. I haven't done that, but I was in a lecture on Monday and the lecturer said 'Everybody settle down', and I was aware that it sounded wrong to me, and that I had been expecting her to say 'everypony'

  12. I'm rather vocal about me being a Brony and what not (but I never really flaunt it) and from my experience of bad acceptance would be from a lack of understanding and the fact that people will have that knee jerk reaction of instantly calling it 'gay' or 'weird' or having a 'WTF moment' (I get it quite a bit at school due to going to an all boys school). Most people just focus on calling it that because they just don't know about it, they're usually the people who don't know at all about the Brony community and actually how big it is, so don't really beat yourself up about it because this usually comes up from people not understanding.

Usually when people rip on the show I just say "Don't knock it until you try it (I usually put a mate into it but that sounds a bit too Australian)" it usually shuts them up or forces them to watch the show and thus they usually become a Brony so really a win-win.

On another note a good vent can do a world of good there was this one time (anecdote warning) during one of my school camps for Cadets one of the people in my section (AAC Corporal so section commander) was extraordinarily annoyed about being in the bush. So long story short after an hour of venting about the stupidest of things about what the bush lacks (McDonalds, Internet cafes etc.) and after a few laughs he started to feel alright so venting can really help a person out, hope everypony here has helped you out, I can't stand a sad person even if I just know them over the internet.

Ha, thanks, don't worry about me, if you read through the thread you'll see I managed to convert my sister after all, so everything's shaped up alright in the end.

  13. It still vexes me why some bronies are soo afraid about admitting they like the show, I understand everyone is from a different walk of life and have different people around them but when you look at it, and I mean REALLY look at it, there is not one thing wrong with enjoying a show like MLP, it's nothing to be ashamed of by any means, the show is a good show on soo many levels. I am proud to watch it and actually let its messages improve my daily life. As for dealing with haters or people that mock me for it, well...that is simple. I stopped caring what other people thought of me a long time ago, the only opinions of myself I care about are my own.

    Quite so.
