  1. I do think the Aqua Something You Know Whatever name is hilarious though. That show is so ridiculous. I would love to be in on a brainstorming session for it.

I own the Volume 3 DVD, and there's a special feature which shows the brainstorming process behind each episode.

Believe it or not, the two creators just sit in front of a computer at one of their houses and brainstorm everything, and then just type out the script as they go along. It's HILARIOUS to watch...

As for Edd, Ed and Eddy, I really never saw the appeal, I would catch it every once in awhile when it was on, and liked Plank a great deal, but maybe I only saw the first season or so?

The first season of Ed, Edd, n Eddy is regarded, even by the fans themselves, as one of the worst seasons of the show. The characters look weird, the storylines usually pander beyond belief, and the show never really gained the wit it would have until the second season. Plus, alot of the first season falls into uncanny valley at some points.

However, the second season is a VAST improvement over the first, and the third season remains as the best season of the show. It truly got better with age.

  2. Powerpuff Girls was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid, though looking back I REALLY don't see how it could be geared towards girls and anchored only to that. It seems more often than not, it was made to appeal to the adults AND the kids, much like FiM. No surprise considering McCracken and Faust's involvement, but you get the idea.

My Life as a Teenage Robot, though I don't consider it as a girl-themed cartoon because...IT. WAS. AWESOME! Courtesy of FiM's own Rob Renzetti, the show had constant fight scenes, animation that looked like it came straight out of classic Disney, and a sense of humor that seemed to know EXACTLY who was watching. They've referenced everything from "Aliens" to "Raiders of the Lost Ark" to even "Full Metal Jacket"! It's an AWESOME show, and one that really got undersold at every conceivable angle.

  3. As I've come to learn when in this fandom, you need to learn a balance of how big and "out-in-the-open" you are about the show and the fandom.

People will come to accept it if you are controlled about your interest, as it's simply YOUR interest, and no one should care enough to insult it. High school is far different from College, because in college people are focusing on the truly essential things in THEIR lives. They have enough maturity to not go trolling you about it, because they know they have different interests too. High School is simply a worse time to show off your Brony nature because EVERYTHING surrounds the stupid idea of popularity, and it's simply material in fashion and stupid in nature. As soon as you get out of high school, the popularity race is immediately viewed as childish, which it truly is.

Generally, be fanatical about being a Brony and loving the show in the appropriate times. If you're around someone or even roommates with someone who has no idea what is, then act like it's something not needed to be explained in huge detail. If they ask, calmly explain and recommend it. You have to respect the opinions and interests of other people in your life, no matter how bias or strange they may be.

If you happen upon any other Bronies, then excellent! Moderation could apply, but it's the perfect outlet for your love of the show.

  4. Now then, back to the matter at hand, I looked closely at the Trixie pics as well, and it looks fake to me also. But remember, Friendship is Magic has many upon many of graphical errors: Maybe these pics are merely errors? In any case, I suppose we'll find out when Season Three airs.

    I see four possibilities:

    1) This is an earlier, colored prototype vector that was made long before any real scenes were made with her featured in it with this amulet.

    2) It's simply a preview vector made to tease us by the crew.

    3) We're looking for reasons why this looks fake.

    4) It's fake.

I really wish we'd get absolute confirmation. It seems everyone has dropped these screenshots from relevance after a week or so.

Personally, I still stand firm in the belief that the Trixie vector is fake. It just looks too artificial, and moreso, too much fanservice being given away too early...just seems odd...

  5. While I'd love a nice explanation for how money talks in Equestria....I really can't help but feel stocks and the stock market would be completely out-of-place to explore.

It's the equivalent of that old Superman game on the NES making the stock market a PLOT POINT in a game. Friends and neighbors, kids DO NOT care about stocks. :smug:

  6. I also want to bring everyone's attention back to that shot of Trixie that Equestria Daily was given:

    trixie_with_alicorn_amulet_turnaround.jpg

Upon close inspection, the "Alicorn Amulet" around her neck is CLEARLY shopped onto a vector. It appears far too pixel-y and the shine it supposedly has on there is a false shine.

Not only that, but if you inspect the first shot, the right side of the Amulet strangely cuts off, and it is not her mane doing so, because the last shot is shown that her mane is BEHIND the amulet.

And finally, the amulet itself doesn't even properly wrap-around her neck in the fourth shot. It just strangely stops, and the right side of it even appears to OVERLAP HER OUTLINE at one point. Not only that, but the outline of the amulet itself appears far too pronounced when you look at it.

Personally, I think this is fake.

  7. Your welcome!

But why exactly are you finding it funny? I myself noted that it had several possible meanings and awkward syntax, so I'm not sure which part is amusing you. : )

I found the notion funny because you were essentially recommending I get it first before she knew it existed and went out and bought it before I did. That's the jist I got from the comment.

And from that meaning, I found it funny. :smirk:

  8. I also forgot to mention, the last scene with the celebration at the end of Friendship is Magic Part 2 is extremely emotional, so much so I cried.

It really wasn't that it was emotional in context, however. You see, I had never watched the pilot until I had seen 10 or so episodes, so I think what hit home for me was that I knew what was to come, and the impact that Celestia's decision at the end of Part 2 is therefore magnified and increases in its emotional value, because you know all the wonderful things that the Mane 6 are about to experience as the best of friends.

  9. Am I the only pony around here that didn't like PPG? By design it was good, but by story? Eh, I dunno if it was just the early episodes, but PPGs vs. Villain Du Jour turned me off fast.

In my opinion, A LOT of the show was hit-and-miss. The animation was crude at best when it began (Though it upgraded as time went on), the development wasn't very convincing, and the action was fine but was pointless in most senses.

I think the show has so many fans now because of how much of a integral part of our childhoods it was, and to be honest, sometimes it could be EXTREMELY funny when it wanted to be. "Meet the Beat-Alls" is a perfect example, as there's 2-3 Beatles references per 30 seconds in that episode. It's insane, but hilarious with the right mindset.

Heck, there's even a South Park reference in it at one point!

Both are made by Garret Gilchrist, who also happened to be the same guy who put together the "recobbled cut" of The Thief and the Cobbler. I've met him both at BronyCon and at the recent NYC Brony meetup, and I continue to buy his awesome prints every single time!

He did do a sketch of Pinkie Pie in a fire helmet, but I can't seem to find it on his DeviantArt page. I bought that today, however, and being a firefighter I find it absolutely great! Hope to see more from him as I continue on!

  11. My personal picks:

    - When Twilight Sparkle turns grey in Return of Harmony Part 2, and she cries. OH LORD. The first time I saw that episode, I literally felt like crying. There was enough subtly in that scene to convey the true impact that the whole moment had. They KNEW how much of impact there was if they DIDN'T have any dialogue of some sort, which is why no other character speaks for a good 10-15 seconds after that moment, because they knew that allowing the audience to digest what just occurred and allowing the moment to tell its emotion was perfect.

    - The entirety of Smile, Smile, Smile for the fact that it culminates so perfectly. As soon as the chorus comes in, I get absolute chills. Beautiful work by Amy Keating Rogers and Daniel Ingram.

    - The ending of Family Appreciation Day, specifically when Granny Smith tells the story. That whole moment is so perfectly subtle.

    - When Fluttershy breaks down crying in Hurricane Fluttershy The whole moment between her and Rainbow Dash is perfectly-done, and even Rainbow Dash's expression shows she realized how badly she just screwed up, but she simply hides it against her own emotion. Just WONDERFUL display, and one of the reasons why I place this episode as my favorite (Behind the premieres/finales).

    - The second half of A Canterlot Wedding Part 1. Not only does Twilight's own brother turn his back on her, but her friends and HER LOVING TEACHER turn their back on her. The look of absolute despair on Twilight Sparkle's face after Celestia leaves her has me shed tears even when I THINK about it. The huge tonal shift that occurs when the False Cadence is revealed is what really seals it, however.

    - The entirety of A Canterlot Wedding Part 2. Absolutely huge scale, stakes-raised, wonderful moments, great sense of humor, and the ending that made me, the guy who rarely ever cries at anything, shed joyous tears. Just a perfect exclamation point to end an excellent season.

    - That absolutely unforgettable moment at the end of "Secret of My Excess". No dialogue was needed, because simple expression and subtle detail was enough to make me extremely emotional. That moment alone makes me love the episode.

I've decided if I ever met Lauren Faust, I'd probably cry for real. No joke.

    I did this. No joke.

  12. Also, Halloween reference seriously blew my mind.... Thanks for pointing it out Thoth.

Thank my abnormally-large movie buff brain. Only a nerd like me would be able to connect a score from a cartoon about neon-colored ponies to the score to a movie about a psychotic killer that goes around slaughtering babysitters...

  13. As long as it isn't poorly done CGI like most stock animation turned into a movie. If you're going to have a movie, make it the quality of Pixar or Dreamworks.

Or you could go the Powerpuff Girls Movie route and hike the animation quality to newer heights. The animation in PPG Movie was UNBELIEVABLE, and looked nothing like the show's. Everything was glossier, sleek and stylish compared to the rather blunt art style it used for the show.

    Show:

I honestly wouldn't mind if they did the same sort of upgrade for a movie...if they were to do one, of course.

  14. http://www.meetup.com/Bronies-NYC/events/75438742/

Here it is, the August edition of the NYC Bronies meetup! It's $15 at the door, and it already looks like 70-80 people are already coming to the meetup.

Why am I putting so much emphasis on this? Because I'm going to be going to this meetup! Not only will I be at this meetup, but also three of my very good friends in town, who form our "Bronies of Pequannock" pack. Some of you may have already met Hayden (ChillzMaster) at BronyCon, and another one of our local Bronies attended BronyCon. However, it's Hayden's brother's first meetup with Bronies.

What I can basically ask for, is that anypony close by to try and attend! All the information is listed on the link above, and hopefully I'll see some of you guys there!

Either way...go right ahead and discuss!
