  1. I am making a topic dedicated to saving Derpy (on my board). We will not relent until the original material is back in place on iTunes and Derpy's canon status is returned - or Hasbro sells the rights to her character to us - the fans who breathed her soul into her.

They've yet to address the fact they deliberately altered her appearance and un-crossed her eyes. The fact they did that means that since her voice - her name and her eyes were changed at the same time to be less offensive means that they felt having crossed eyes is offensive. That people with disabilities are offensive.

Intentional or not. They have ripped away an innocent soul from us and if you agree with me then let's re-group on g league and try to reason over time with our brother bronies. Realize that if you join me - you are no longer brony. You are derpy and proud of it.

  2. One thing is bothering me about all of this. How do you claim to promote diversity when the one representative you have of people with disabilities is changed to look like everypony else? It is saying that everypony should be 'normal'. It is saying that people who are different are bad. Dismissing the fact this is upsetting means you agree with that viewpoint.

I don't love that. I'm certainly not going to tolerate it.

They could have changed the voice and have been done with it - the voice was incorrect to begin with - that's been admitted. I feel the name omission is debatable. I feel that changing her appearance is unbearable. They went too far.

Put canon Derpy back in place Hasbro. Put the original episode back up. If you agree with that then let's politely and in a civil manner communicate how we feel to them. If you love Derpy take action. No matter how small it may be. If you disagree or don't care - then continue on as you were. Love and Tolerate our position. We are not wrong for feeling this way just as Derpy wasn't wrong for being Derpy.

  3. Well that statement says that only the audio was modified when that isn't true - her eyes were also modified.

“The ‘My Little Pony Friendship is Magic’ series has always been about acceptance and inclusion, and the series strives to convey that through the playful antics of a diverse cast of characters,” Hasbro spokeswoman Nicole Angello told us over email. “Some viewers felt that aspects of the episode ‘The Last Roundup’ did not stay true to the core message of friendship which is the heart and soul of the series. Hasbro Studios decided to make slight audio alterations to this single episode.” - Ms.Angello to Gawker

  4. Here's what I think. We shouldn't think about it.

We've done enough and too much to let them know how we feel about the censorship. At this point, saying anything else is just plain annoying. And regardless of what is to come of the future of derpy, we just need to remove ourselves from saying any more. What upsets me is that if Derpy's name is mentioned again in a future episode, then the bronies will say that they have 'won'. Won? Are we fighting with hasbro? or anybody? Since when did a grey colored pegasus cartoon character become something so important that we are willing to sacrifice our time to do such things. Sure she's the bronies' 'mascot,' but that doesn't mean we should sacrifice animals under the name of derpy and donate money to set her free. Nothing of the sort.

Honestly, I think we just need to let it go. At this point, whatever happens happens. And there's not going to be much we can do about it. And if it still doesn't change in our favor, then we should probably think about greater more important things. Arguing about a background character's name and likeness to this point is become more and more not worth the effort.

I disagree. *warning - wall O' text rant incoming!*

Television history was made due to the fact this fandom is so active and there is actual 2 way communication. I would have loved to have had input to Star Trek TNG! I feel taking action at the very least provides them with active feedback. There is no bad publicity. There is brand awareness and whether we are happy or sad about something is completely irrelevant. When they receive unsolicited feedback of any form - it let's them know the size of their market. The Hub is just a giant infomercial of a network. It's entire purpose is to promote product sales.

My sincere opinion is that the iTunes scene will never change - but the fact they are not currently aggressively purging the scene from existence (re-calling DVD's, taking it down from the Hub site, and removing it from Time Warner Cable 'On Demand') shows they are willing to meet us halfway on this. There's a lot they simply cannot disclose to us for legal purposes - if the company comes out and makes an official statement ' We changed the scene at iTune's request ' then that could be interpreted as defamation against Apple. So they remain silent about the whole affair.

If even a single person is offended by something - anything - then they can take action and file 'something'. Someone - either Apple or Hasbro or Studio B saw that some fans were offended. It doesn't matter if you and I are not offended and we are the majority - it only matters that someone was offended. It creates a financial liability. Corporations have zero tolerance for financial liability. So Studio B or Hasbro changed the scene - it covers their ass - if anything is done legally at this point they just go to court and say 'We saw that some were offended - our official position is that we changed the offending material to something more suitable'.

What's fortunate for us is that they seem to be doing only what is absolutely required to protect themselves. Honestly we can breathe a collective sigh of relief. I don't think we will ever see Derpy's name mentioned again and I wonder if she will remain cross-eyed or not - The only glimpse I've seen of her was in Hearts and Hooves and Friend indeed and could anyone see her eyes? It is my hope they at least leave her cross-eyed because frankly it's more offensive that they would un-derp her eyes as a statement that being cross eyed is 'offensive' when it's just a common condition. If they don't want to state her name - fine - if they want to change her voice - fine - but don't change an integral part of the character.

Whether it's you here on Canterlot or Saberspark on My little Brony - I will always disagree with the instruction towards this community to do 'nothing'. DO SOMETHING! It is a win/win situation for both the community and for Hasbro/MLP/Studio B. Write a story. Make a funny meme. Create a PMV. Create a custom animation. Create a rant post on canterlot.com (um w/ spoilers) but for Celestia's sake express yourself my friends.I may disagree w/ you and Saberspark but I still love you as brothers in brony. Please tolerate my opposing viewpoint. Together we make a community. /rant

  5. Hasbro should have hired subject matter experts as consultants before doing anything. The road to Hell is unfortunately paved with good intentions. There are educated and prominent members of the community who could have tweaked that scene before it aired - if they were just given the chance. In the end it's like this:

  6. I don't know how relevant this could be but the Hub will have a new show this summer. Kaijudo. It's a reboot of the old card game Duel Masters which was very succesful in Japan but was sued into oblivion by Konami (Yugioh) for the manner in which they used the word 'Duel'.

Kaijudo is already confirmed for the Hub.

  7. You wouldn't have lost Derpy as canon because she wouldn't have been canon. Her inclusion in any role whatsoever is a gift to the fans. Making noise over a decision to change a character on their show, when said character initially didn't even exist and who's inclusion is intended as a nod to the fanbase, can come off as the fanbase seeming spoiled.

You want Derpy to remain Derpy? I can understand that. Write a polite e-mail and say your piece. My message is that whether they keep her the same or change her, I'm excited that she is involved at all and am overjoyed that they recognize us enough to do so. I'm not going to demand they adhere to my vision of their character- it is their vision, their work, not mine. I'm happy to have Derpy at all.

I wrote the polite email and sent them a link to the over 14,000 signed petition.

and derpy's name was re-instated later that day - I'm convinced if I and others had 'done nothing' as saberspark is suggesting then a character I for one sincerely love would have been erased forever.

I love her. I can't bear the thought of going backward. Why give us something then take it away? It would have been better to have never received it.

Excuse me. I'm going to the chimney for some reflection and thinking. It's time to think inside the chimney.

  8. Who is saberspark and why can’t I add him as a friend so I can IMMEDIATELY and respectfully disagree with him?

Saberspark. Sir. We need to talk. Report to the Chancellor’s office.

This was an obvious and apparent move to begin backpeddling from Derpy’s name to start corporate damage control.

Corporations do WHATEVER IT TAKES to negate legal and financial liability. They perceived a liability and began taking action. If the community sat on its hands like you are suggesting here then we’d never have had a Derpy in the first place.

MLP would be like every other show on tv with one way communication – your video is pleasant and your visual communication skills are flawless.

Your reasoning is complacent and doesn’t serve the best interests of this community.
