I guess it might be awkward if she says "my boyfriend and I blah blah blah," but the main idea behind this communication is in its vagueness to avoid said awkwardness. There's a subtle exchange when it comes to communication with another person -- often there's another, different conversation going on below physical words; one ruled by tonality, body language, facial expressions, and situational context. These elements are not singular, and all harmonize as part of an unspoken symphony of communication. 

Master this, and you will master talking to most people. A lot of folks are hard to communicate with, and that's fine. That's their problem, not yours.

Dive in, take risks, make mistakes. Look back and see what works... or didn't. Don't be afraid to fail, because it's better to fail and learn than never try. Or don't try. It's on you and your own happiness if you want to share a relationship with someone. Women don't owe you anything.

I got'chu. Don't wanna come off like a creepy stalkerish type? Don't act like one. In fact, act normal. I love guys that are secure and don't seem like they're on trial when they're attempting normal conversation.

Next time you're there, if she's working, ask her what she's into. Most women will detect the interest and will bring up the SO in conversation to let you know she's not looking or available. "So what do you like to do outside of work?" "My boyfriend and I like to go hiking."

This conversation goes both ways. Her response can tell you a lot without words. If she replies with "Oh, I'm taking care of my three kids and work 15 hours a day. I hate my life." Well, there you go.

Or...just don't do anything and hope you'll run into someone you connect with before you're pushing up daisies. Only frequent interactions will blossom friendship, and only from friendship can you grow a proper relationship.

Let me tell you about the Tuesday thing. Every Tuesday my Mum and I like to go to a Chinese restaurant. We've been going there for a while and we know like, everyone that works there. One day I brought them bagels from work and they were freaked out happy. Then I got mangled, stuff happened, and I haven't had goodies to give them from work because I've not been working from medical leave.

We had a friend of my Mum's join us there once and she was shocked at how extra they treated us. "I never get any of these things when I come here," she says. The special tea, fried noodles and interesting sauces on the side, goodies from China, extra cookies at the end. Ya gotta make friends!

Since I started work this week, I've been amassing a pile of goodies to give to them today. They should be really happy!

I feel like that when I go to conventions. Abundance of snacks and junk food, low access to fresh, good food. Sometimes I like to pack some stuff, but mostly it's Doritos, jerky, candy, diet coke, and snacks. A weekend of that and ...yeeeeah.

I concur about the laptop thing. Not worth unless you absolutely need the portability.
