  1. It doesn't sound like your brother is being very fair to you with that gay comment. What if you were gay, would you need to be checked out? Stand up for yourself. If your brother carries that attitude about homosexuals into adulthood, he's going to be in for a very big surprise.

You could tell your family that you enjoy watching it, and it's so good it has a huge male following that call themselves "bronies." You don't really need to elaborate or try to explain the series to them. They sound a bit conservative so "less is more" is probably how you want to approach it.

Regardless of how you decide to share your like of FIM with them, don't let others dictate to you what you can or can't enjoy. It won't make you less of a person, strange, or different if someone in your life doesn't approve.

  2. I wouldn't worry about episodes (especially on the net) vanishing. Hasbro knows it would be like trying to clean up a leaking dam with a sponge; they just like to flex their copyright muscle now and then to show us who's boss, that's all.

  3. (wow, surprisingly popular topic)

First off, was kidding about the brony card thing =P It's one ofthe ONLY things i dont like about the show...

When i first saw the show i almost quit watching right there... but i forced myself to continue.

I'll be honest, i think it's mostly the 'my little pony' bits that get me... I still have a problem with the original brand and how it seemed to be just a way to sell toys to unknowing girls... so even when i hear the words 'my little pony' in the show itself, i cringe... So you can imagine them saying it like 10 times in a minute would make me lose my marbles.

I think you bring up an interesting point, and what you are referencing is some of the deeper psychology behind what makes FiM so popular, and why we all enjoy it. Would we still enjoy the series if it was called something completely different, and the ponies were, say, birds? Or squids? What "X" factor in particular makes the series so enjoyable?

I think the answers are as numerous and multifaceted as a gem in Rarity's collection, though I think we can all agree that the property has changed (for the better!), and we're sort of stuck in the middle as the "unintended audience." Viewers liking material targeted toward young girls is nothing new, it's just never happened on this scale, or in a way that's so accessible and, more importantly, accepted. To challenge that is to challenge the values you were sociologically embedded with since birth, but I am glad to see it's happening, as it can only mean good things for everyone -- especially Lauren's intended and original audience.

  4. I would be surprised if they all succeeded at the same time. When one of them gets it and the other two don't, what happens to their friendship? Sure in cutie-pox they were excited for Applebloom, but the illusion was shattered before they came down from the high. Redefining their friendship after one or two have crossed over might have a good lesson to it, but I simply find myself not caring.

My prediction is that they'll all get their cutie marks at the same time, like the Mane Six did.

  5. We have been seeing more scripting with individual CMCs. For that intent, we haven't really had enough Scootaloo, and she's probably the one needing the most fleshing out between the three.

Don't forget about one-hit-wonder characters as well between the Mane Six -- Trixie cries out the most to me, because she seems the one with so much more story to tell, and possibly the most for redemption of some kind.

  6. I think it goes along the lines of "so sweet it's probably fake."

I have to say that the first time I saw the opening with Rainbow Dash appearing and doing that loop de loop toward Ponyville was breathtaking. The whole sequence is pretty sweet and girly, almost like it was made to appeal to little girls.

  7. I...am finding myself hesitant for some reason.

Would I need to bring anything? Ingredients? Cookie sheets? Pepper Spray? Taser?

I don't think cookies would taste good with pepper spray or tasers in them. They'd be quite shocking, though! (Ha!)

But uh yeah, back to the topic at hand. Dragons and stuff.

So um, do any of you think Spike and Rarity might blossom a more-than-friends sort of relationship, or will it always be the impossible dream? I know anything like that would be out of the scope of the series, but Pony/Dragon shipping could be quite interesting...

  8. Well, I admit that I forgot about the Sweeney Todd ponies, but it is a diverse and wide open field. It would be a shame to restrict a pony's creativity to that degree. If everyone was baking each other into cupcakes, it would get boring after a while.

We would all be like "whats the news today?" "another pony got chopped up and baked into cupcakes" "I said 'news' not 'olds'. How I long for rampage or two"

And honestly, how would the cupcake industry survive under such conditions?

I'm baking cookies today, actually! Care to come over?

  9. Melted marshallows would make for a GREAT 'cloud' look. I, too, believe I am going to be baking here soon....perhaps I'll make all the delicious poo of the mane six....wait, wat?.....

Marshmallows are a great idea, Knight! I picked up ingredients to make these today. I know I'm crazy, but they look too cool not to bake!

Baring the pantry staples -- flour, eggs, sugar, butter -- the food color probably cost the most. The glitter gel wasn't too bad. I didn't bother with the draugees because you can barely see them in the cookies anyway.

Let's bake up some and compare, okies?

  10. People shouldn't be letting television raise their children. Just sayin'.

I completely agree with this. I truly believe that parents should take an active role in what their children watch, instead of taking one side of the two extremes (being overly restrictive about what they watch, or not really caring), so when the important questions do come up, education can take place right away and everyone wins. This should extend beyond passive activities like watching television, though!

  11. Pegasus patties are whispy white.

Earth Ponies are of the standard variety.

I was thinking blue and light blue braided together, on like a little white cloud, with yellow star sprinkles and some glitter.

I'm still thinking of a way to make Earth Pony cookies cute, but...I'll get back to you on that.

Edit: Okay then, I was thinking flavoring half the batch with cocoa powder, then doing a batch of green, and braiding those together. Sprinkies would be flowers and butterflies, since those are earth-bound things, and maybe some icing "grass" around the sides.

  12. I agree, I want to see why Mac wanted the doll earnestly. (Though it was a great gag that this love for it DIDNT come from the 'want it need it' spell) Though I get the feeling hte comic idea isnt even remotely possible because, atleast to me, the doll looks severely home-made... I think it's more perhaps a hint that Mac likes Twilight (there seem to be hints at possible canon shippings popping up like this, now, I wonder if the writers are sick of the mare+mare ships and are trying to nudge us in a different direction...)

I think Big Mac keeping the Smarty Pants doll was sort of a nod to bronyism. A year ago the thought of a bunch of guys collecting customs and making plushies of My Little Pony would never happen, and look where we are now. Or, it could have happened just because it was funny, and I'm reading too deep into it.

  13. That's great, thanks for sharing that! I love to bake and that's a really neat idea. The stuff is a bit expensive though -- the disco dust alone is over $1 a gram, though I don't imagine needing much. Those cookies look super fun, and would do great for a pony get together, birthday, or...something!

Edit: It looks like the disco dust is non-toxic, but it really isn't intended for eating. Hmm...
