  1. Firebolt bowed respectfully, splaying his wings out far to either side, his burning red eyes closed deferentially. "I am Firebolt, son of Chillwind and Rainsong, friend Sweet." He rose with a wide smile. "My greeting is an old one, unused by Equestrians of this day and age." He trotted a bit closer, chuckling slightly. "And indeed, candy is something one wishes to always have more of."

  2. Rainsong woke up with a start, having been sleeping until about that moment behind some bushes in the general vicinity of the Schoolhouse. She blinked a few times, stood, stretched gracefully, and listened again for the sharp noise that she knew had jolted her out of a very pleasant dream. While she waited, she thoughtfully chewed at the grass nearby, taking little, tiny bites. The sudden eruption of cheering and foalish voices had her ears flicking toward the Schoolhouse, and out of curiousity, she flitted over to a conveniet spot and looked through the window at a respectable distance. Oh, how nice! Some of the Wonderbolts were present...Spitfire, Soarin' and one other stallion that she recognized but could not recall the name of. She smiled as she watched the foals, knowing her own Backdraft to be a devoted fan of the Team. Someone had once advised her to demonstrate her skill for them, but she declined, knowing that it took more than mere grace to become such a skilled flier. Perhaps one day one of her many sons might do the Clan honor by joining, but no, not her.

  3. Firebolt watched the little group of ponies from high above, standing in one of the many alcoves provided by the architecture inside the massive hall. In a building any smaller than this, a large stallion like himself would have been unable to fit. His eyes focused in on the three remaining ponies below, after the one unicorn left. Interesting....the filly with the red mane and white body was almost colored like his younger brother Clefthoof. Perhaps he would indeed go down and mingle while he waited for his dear mother to finish her family visit. He launched himself from the edge with great fluidity, and dropped abruptly down to the level of the floor, pulling up and gliding along just a foot or so above it. Smiling rakishly, he greeted the last of the Pageant-goers as he landed his hooves on the stone floor a few yards behind them.

"Hail and well met, with blessings upon you!"

  4. Firebolt swooped in low, landing in a snowdrift outside the Everfree forest with a rush of the white powdery ice scattered everywhere by his wings. He shook himself clean of the stuff that had collected on his coat and mane, and trotted forward, taking in the majesty of the lights shining against the dark of the night. The winter chill made the air feel that much more vigorous and crisp, and the austerity of the snow made the night just perfect. He heard voices off to his right, and trotted closer, spying out two ponies among the trees.

"Greetings and blessings of health, friends! Hail and well met!"

  5. So, one of the first things I noticed when I watched the first few episodes of MLP was that I know someone that acts disturbingly like Pinkie Pie. In fact, they both have a really high voice too. The resemblance was so uncanny, I think it kind of ruined the character for me, although I would have hated her singing anyway. The problem is, the girl I'm talking about was obnoxious. To the point where I couldn't understand why nobody put a hoof in Pinkie's face...okay, it wasn't that bad, and I don't advocate violence against mares (or real women for that matter).

The point being, do any of you have a friend or acquaintance who a member of the cast, large or small, instantly reminded you of?

    post-1791-0-66185000-1326399234.jpg

Origin/Residence: He was born in the mountains near Stallongrad during the harshet month of Winter that year. He currently leads his Clan around Equestria, exploring as they go, but occasionally stops in Canterlot with his mare Rainsong to visit her parents.

Occupation: Head of the Clan of nomadic pegasi he calls family.

Motivation: Being a model leader, caring for his family, making sure that his Clan is a force for Good in the world, acting as his parents would have wished

Likes: peace, battle when fought for the right reasons, the open road, his Clan's traditions, playing with his children

Dislikes: peace that is ill-won, battle for the wrong reasons, staying in one place, cowardice and treachery

    Character Summary:

History: His mother Breeze and his father Headwind loved their son, and raised him well as both parents and Head of the Clan. Chillwind grew up traveling and fighting as his ancestors had for generations, learning much from a hard life on the road. After the injuring of his father, and the coming of his mark during the battle against the dragons, he arrived at Canterlot with the rest of his tattered Clan. They were received warmly and his father was given the best of medical attention and lodgings for their heroism and sacrifice in warding a city not even their own from harm. The extent of the damage his father had received was so severe that they were laid up there for an entire year, which gave the Clan Elders time to choose him as the next Head of the Clan after it became clear that Headwind would no longer serve, and him time to accidentally trample his future mare Rainsong underhoof. After picking her up and apologizing, the two walked around the city and talked, learning much about one another. A chance meeting hardened into friendship, and friendship became infatuation, and that infatuation became a love pure and true. In the Spring rain that year, he offered her his heart and his life, a chance to be free and unfettered under the stars, and she jumped at the chance. The two grew together and reached maturity, and started what was to become the very large family that they have today.

Cutie Mark: It was in the dead of Winter in a tremendous blizzard when his Clan was passing by Canterlot one night, and just as they were about to set up camp in a nearby cave they had used a few times before, he caught sight of something huge moving along the mountain slopes. Calling out for his fellow warriors to follow him, he flew in closer to investigate, and found no less than five fully gorwn Earth dragons trying to be unobtrusive as they clung to the lower slopes of the mountain range. He and a few others followed, which was no easy task, for due to their icy coloration, they barely stood out despite their immense size. They kept close but out of sight for half and hour before it dawned on them that the dragons were headed toward Canterlot. Being no foals, they quickly debated amongst themselves about the likelihood that the beasts were after the hoards of treasure that were kept within its walls. Whatever the dragon's goals were, they sent out their fastest flier to warn the Royal Guard of the possible threat before taking any other action, and a another to fly back and gather the rest of the Clan's warriors. Chillwind was the Voice of Reason in this debate, and asserted that they should at least confront the dragons before attacking, considering the risks involved. His father, then Head of the Clan, agreed, and went down boldy to do just that. The dragons feigned surprise when told the direction they were headed in, and began to mock-argue with one another about who had gotten them lost. One, revealing himself to be their "elected" leader, roughed them all up until they quieted, and turned to thank Chillwind's father and the other warriors who had joined them. As the villain finished his parting sentence, he came close to the hovering pegasus, and swatted him to the ground before anypony could react. Suddenly, flames were everywhere, steaming the snow and making it impossible to see one's hoof an inch from their muzzle. Many of the warriors that had come with them were knocked unconcious before they could get their bearings. Chillwind was lucky, and managed to fly out in time to see the rest of the Clan's warriors in the distance. With a mighty war whinny, he spun around and around the clouds of mist, funneling them up and away from his intended target. During the dragon's second onslaught, Chillwind confronted the dragon who had tricked his father, and in so doing, received his Mark. Livid with rage at the beast's dishonorable behavior, he struck at the massive creature so rapidly and so forcefully that it could not stop his assault. Those who saw him in the short moments they were not fighting for their lives could see a strange pattern of frost covering his fur and mane, growing thicker as he attacked. It hardened and grew into jointed sheets of jagged ice that fended the claws of his opponent and denied the power of the monster's burning breath. Slowly but surely he backed the dragon onto a ledge, hammering at it anywhere it would feel the hit. The dragon had never felt anything like the rock-hard, ice-sheathed hooves that dug into his scales like talons, and was sorely pressed to keep upright. With a final desperate roar, he turned to flee, and was pushed roughly off the cliff when Chillwind dived into the base of his neck. With their leader humiliated and bruised on the rocks below, the dragons turned their scaly tails and bolted, harassed the entire way by the implacable colt and his companions, until they lost themselves in the mountains.

Since then, Chillwind has practiced daily to acheive the effect his special talent produces, but has been unsuccessful in reaching the strength of that first occurence. Like many of his sons, he influences the air partciles around him, but slows them down and chills the air until water condenses and then freezes around him in sharp, interlocking segments. He has never been able to control their shape, and over time the magic involved has increased in strength to the point where the air around him is naturally chilly unless he focuses on stopping it. The more focus he loses when annoyed or distracted, the colder it gets around him. While it has its inconveniences, this mixed blessing has lent him and edge in many bouts with other ponies, who expect to find bruisable hide with their kicks and meet unyielding ridged ice.

Parents: With both his parents passed on due to old age, it is understandable that his devotion to the family he now has is unflinching and without question. Though they live no more, his love for his mother and father spills into everything he does, and the very way he lives and leads. He swore on the mountain his father was laid to rest within that he would never let them down, and has kept that promise more perfectly than many would have the heart to. He is an upstanding father and a caring spouse, and loves his large family deeply, and, like any father, dotes upon his young daughter Rainsquall with much affection and in some cases overprotection.

Flaws: As he is driven, he can ultimately be too passionate about things, and on occasion is far too stern with his sons when it comes to training them as fighters. He is one of the most stubborn stallons one could ever meet, and while not eager for a fight, he will finish one if it is started, and rarely sees reason in the thick of it, which can have property-damaging consequences.

  7. Yeah, there's always going to be a few messed up folks who take things way too far.

I'm actually not worried about this, period. I like a show. I am not a Brony because I like MLP in the same way I'm not a Trekkie because I like the original Star Trek or Worf (Although if anyone draws a picture of him holding Flutterhsy for me, I will have a new best friend and you will have a sparklingly awesome fanfiction of your choice, tastefully written of course, I have my moral code to consider.).

I never really consider myself a "part" of any fandom. I'm just here for the ride, as it were. If the show goes south (like Bleach and Naruto) then I stop watching. I enjoy this community, but hey, it's a spare time thing, (which I have too much of at the moment). If it goes south, I leave. No big deal either way.

  8. If you take away Black from the Clan and from his mother's name, what purpose does it serve in his name? Basically, explain why it is important/how it relates to him if you wish to keep it there. It sounds a bit like a last name, switching it to Black Firebolt sounds more natural, in my opinion.

Alright. It would be good to link to her app using clickable text, when you can.

I think I took Black away from his name too. How do I use clickable text?

Edit: I also ripped out the magicians bit and put in something more fitting to his personality. It works better, I think.

  9. The look on Firebolt's face was one of absolute confusion. That pegasus has sounded like one of the ominous villains in the children's stories his Elders told around the Clan campfire at night. How very strange. Was it possible that he was one of those "artistic" ponies that his dear mother so disdained, the ones from Canterlot who tried to be ominously dramatic for the attention it would provide them? He shook his head and looked around for someone to pass the discus off to.

  10. Probably, especially if you feel I'm not understanding it like I should. More clarity is NEVER a bad thing. I would also like some more detail on his explosion talent, and what purpose it can/will serve in Roleplay.

    Consider it done.

Well, I spoke with some of the other staff... the wings are okay just for the picture, but they are otherwise normal Pegasus wings and do not aesthetically look like Celestia's.

Thank you for being flexible and understanding. If I'm correct, I think Celestia would have to be bigger than him anyway, just by way of being an Alicorn. I mean, Luna's not grown yet and she's almost Big Macintosh's height. On a tangential note, I've always assumed that the Princesses have a sort of "glamour" magic that automatically makes them more imposing, but that might be because I've read too many books on legitimate oldschool faeries. Your thoughts?

Well, I'd say he should look for other Pegasi rather than Unicorns... there's nothing that I can think of that they could do to help him.

I changed it to magicians, who, I'd hope, judging by Twilight Sparkle's statements about magic in the Twitchy episode, would have enough of a scientific mind to analyze what he does and give some pointers. Is that sufficient?

Well... the Apple family is in the business of apples... it's what they do, and it's related to their talents and abilities. How does black relate to a talent or skill? Remember also that Granny Smith and Big Macintosh do not have Apple IN their names, they are simple named after a type of apple. Having Apple in the name is not critical or even necessary to be apart of the family.

I see your point. I'll simply remove the Black name for the Clan, it really doesn't add too much to anything anyway.

Why did she choose to leave her noble, and carefree life for a life on the road? If you want to put things like this in, it's good to explain why this piece of information is important to include.

Well, for that, you'll have to see her Application (insert impudently cheeky face here). But seriously, she is actually the WIP character Rainsong I have posted. I have at least bare bones Apps for all 14 (including Firebolt) members of the family, and many are only awaiting tweaking. My hope is that the family will flesh out as they become approved.

    Edit: Changes have been completed.

  11. Unique seems like a strong word... I doubt he's the only Pegasus that can manipulate air particles. However, he may be the only Pegasus that is able to "unleash an explosive shockwave of superheated air outward from the area surrounding himself."

I would say that all Pegasi can manipulate air, some on different levels and/or in different ways than others, which is where special talents can come from.

Unique in the great extent that he can do it and that he can control it conciously as opposed to it being a result of a certain maneuver. Would you prefer I made that more clear?

Oh, yes! One thing I just noticed is his wings. While they did come from the pony creator, everything included in it is not for the Mane RP. The wings your Pegasus currently has are Celestia's wings, and she is the ONLY pony who has that specific type of wing. A simple change of the wings so that they are normal Pegasus wings will be fine.

Ah. I really don't want to sound like I'm being uppity, but I did some looking, and the other wings make him look like a kid. They seem...not stallion-level mature. As his figure is so large, I chose larger wings. On those grounds, is that permissible? I mean, they're not magical, just aesthetic for the image. (If it isn't, yikes, I have four stallions and a mare to redo.)

Adding a picture of his Cutie Mark would be good as well, even if it's not on the picture of your pony.

The only reason I hadn't done that yet is I haven't found a good explosion, but I'm working on it.

How would Unicorns be able to help a Pegasus? While it's true that Pegasi possess their own 'magic', it's on a totally different and unrelated level to Unicorns. Have you seen a Unicorn move a cloud or make it rain? Walk on clouds without a spell? While spells allow Unicorns to do things, walking on clouds is natural to a Pegasus. That is the extent of their magic. They cannot grow their abilities through magic, as their magic is not controllable, rather just natural. Abilities and talents can be strengthened through practice, but not magic.

But it would seem that the very nature of his talent is control as opposed to just instinctive or the result of a certain set of moves. I should, however, make it more clear that he is seeking magicians who can study his natural talent and teach him how to hone his technique, not teaching him something new entirely. As unicorns appear to be the only magicians on the show, I just mentioned them.

Also, his father is named Rainsong Black. Is there a certain reason his father's last name is the same as the Clan name? Remember that ponies do not have last names, although they may have a secondary part to their name.

Heehee, that's his mum. Chillwind is the father. I was trying to go for the Apple Family concept, which I know they call themselves(I just saw Family Appreciation Day), in that sense. It seemed like they had a family name. That's more of what Clan Black is than anything else, a moniker to tie them all together. Is this permissible?

Edit: Tweaked it to correct the unicorns error and make the proposition more reasonable and clear.
