  1. Oh, I could totally see her in a slinky black thing...that was something female private eyes always was able to pull off, I think, in the old Noir books!

Ahh... the 'little black dress' look. Perhaps. With 'black' being substituted with whatever the writer found alluring. If ponies had guns, she'd probably be wearing one taped to her flank under the dress or something, though. Because don't all detective dames do that? I wonder what analogue there would be.

  2. Tempted to do one for Mystery Chaser, but I realized... She'd either play the gumshoe thing to the hilt and go in her usual hat and coat, perhaps a bit straightened up, or perhaps she'd wear a tux. It'd probably take quite a bit of convincing to get her into a dress. And most likely, she'd still put on the hard-boiled detective act even if she did get put in a dress.

  3. Glancing over, Scale nodded a bit. "Guess you could say that. Just got finished moving in. I'm gonna be attending classes at the university." He looks around. "Brutal day, huh? What sort of work do you do?" he asked.

His belly voiced it's primary concerns at the moment. "Ahh... aheh. Sorry 'bout that. Don't suppose you'd have any recommendations on what's good here?" He reached back toward his flank. "...ahhhh horseapples... I forgot my saddlebags back at the dorm." He claps a hoof over his mouth. "Ehh... Sorry. Forgot t' mind my manners." He looks around again. "Don't suppose you could split a table with a new pony in town? This place looks fuller then an applecart after harvest time."

  4. It had been a long day yesterday. Scale Model had come to Canterlot early to get set up at the university. Just finding the university took long enough, since he kept gawking at all the wonderful things he passed as he looked for the campus. Once there, he spent the rest of the day getting his course schedule and finding where they were on the campus. That night, he found a hotel, followed by getting his dorm room assignment and moving in during the morning. All in all, it had been quite a busy group of days, and finally he could relax a little. "Ugh... feel tireder than a rabbit at a dog race..." he muttered as he strolled toward a cafe to quiet his stomach's demands for food. "But at least it's done."

  5. Princess Celestia just looked so sad in the party. Every time she tries to go for a casual visit, everypony flips out and throws a frilly froo-froo fancy party. Because a visit from royalty is never casual. Even if they want it to be.

She must have been so sad until Luna was back. Only one she could relate to on the same level, and she had to lock them away to protect everypony else.

  6. Name: Scale Model

    Gender: Male

    Age: Colt, bordering on stallion.

    Species: Unicorn

Pelt Color: Light yellow or dark cream (About the color of the road behind 'Welcome to Equestria' up at the top of the page)

Mane/Tail Color & Style: Blue with a green stripe, both somewhat ragged from long nights studying and an active life at home.

    Eye Color: Brown

Cutie Mark: A pair of outside calipers with a rolled up blueprint behind them.

Physique: Snails-type. Scrawny. Horn's not as stubby, and the hair's longer. Also, same hoofstyle as Big Mac.

Residence: During school days, Canterlot. When not a school day, Ponyville.

Occupation: Part-Time Student. Studying to become either engineer or industrial designer. The rest of the time, he helps in his parents' carpentry shop.

Motivation: He likes to help make everypony's life easier. Calipers for to represent how he wants to find out how big a problem is, and blueprints for his love of planning the best course of action to confront said problem.

Likes: models, books, fiddling with things

Dislikes: Badly designed things (though he can live with them), stuff that's too sweet, writing flaws.

Character Summary: Born to a couple of carpenters, Scale Model was raised around all sorts of things getting built and used. He tried helping out whenever he could, however his parents let him. One thing he noticed was that his earth pony mother seemed to have a harder time at some things than his unicorn father did, and while his unicorn father had difficulties with some things as well, sometimes he could overcome them with his magic. The more he looked around, the more he saw ponies having similar troubles. He'd help out when he could with some things, eventually gaining his cutie mark when he decided that he was going to use that knack for making things just a bit easier to use to help his fellow pony ...perhaps while making a few bits from doing so. His parents had saved up a bit of money, so they enrolled him in the best school they knew of... Canterlot University. A bit concerned with his parents' health, he still returns to Ponyville to help with the shop affairs on the days his part-time school schedule doesn't require him in Canterlot. These days, he usually helps wrap up winter in Canterlot.

  7. (A general Hoofington thread)

"The sun shone brightly overhead, glaring down on all it beheld as clouds were cut down in their prime," muttered the gray earth pony as she strolled down the street. "The ponies below ran about their business like so many ants on a picnic spread. Happy. Content. But somebody had to keep their city safe. Somebody had to help those that couldn't turn to anyone else. That's where I come in..." A few ponies give odd looks as she passes near them, talking to herself. "The name's Chaser. Mystery Chaser. I'm a frivate pie. ...I mean... private eye. When someone needs an eye to investigate, I'm who they can turn to, for a price. I was strolling down the street, looking for someone in n... ugh." She hung her head briefly than screamed, "I AM SO STINKIN' BORED!" as she pushed her hat against her head with her hooves. With a sigh, she goes to a cafe to sit for a while, counting what few bits she has on her. "...looks like toasted grass on rye with water again." She rested her head on the table as she waited for the next waiter. "...maybe I should have gone to Canterlot instead. ... Maybe mom was right and I should..." Her face shifted into a suddenly serious expression as she held a hoof up in front of her. "No. I can make it here. If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere. I'm not going back to farm life. I'm going to be just fine." She frowned again. "...somehow."

A couple of moments later, after her order, she returned to resting her head on the table. Idly she counted the fronds on the palm trees around the cafe.

  8. We saw how the buffalo reacted when the train was going to Appleoosa. Perhaps the company that ran the train had heard of the troubles in the area, and just picked some ponies to run in front of it to help protect it. After all, they pretty much held their own against the buffalo.

They don't have convenient firearms that we've seen so far, so it would either have to be a bunch of items on hand specifically for throwing, or... being down on the ground where they can actually get at the ones attacking the train. Less 'pulling the train', more 'guarding it from threats'.

  9. This is a thread for adding a bit of detail for some series or novel that might be thought up. There are plenty of books that we've seen, so undoubtedly, there would be some works of popular fiction, right?

I'll use Mystery Chaser's idol as an example:

Falcon Noir series - This is a series of hardboiled detective novels starring the titular character, Falcon Noir! Usually, they're over the top affairs, full of intrigue, betrayal, and quite a bit of purple prose. Dark and stormy nights seem to happen unnaturally often in Falcon Noir's novels. All the better for a troubled mare with flanks that could balance a fruit platter on them to come set up the plot. Detective Falcon Noir himself is described in them as a jet black pegasus with "blue eyes that could stare a hole through a fence at thirty paces". Usually, his mane and tail is called a stormy blue-gray, but the books don't seem to be that consistent at times on that, especially with as many metaphors that they get stuffed full of. He's your typical "hardboiled detective with a deep down kernel of good, wrapped in so many layers of jaded and disillusioned sorrow" type of personality, and all the woman problems that detective novel protagonists usually seem to have.

Simple enough, right? Feel free to use Falcon Noir's series for stuff if you like. Only things really set in stone are the above, and that Mystery Chaser's pretty much got 'em all. (If she found one she didn't have, she'd probably quickly buy it.)

Your turn! Any works of fiction known by your little ponies?

  10. I suppose any side job she gets wouldn't be any regular thing. Probably incidental.

Also, I suppose OOC would be good for Falcon Noir. I was thinking just posting general info, in case someone else wanted to have their pony have read some story, without having to worry too hard about specific fictional plot details, such as 'how many books does he have in his series?' and similar. Leave 'em to the hazy space between the words, so it can be expanded as needed, says I. Sorta like what the 'gutter' is in regards to comics.

  11. Name: Mystery Chaser

    Gender: Female

    Age: Mare

    Species: Earth Pony

    Pelt Color: Gray.

Mane/Tail Color & Style: Straight, brown mane, with two short pigtails in the mane. Her brown tail is straight and unbound. It is only slightly unkept, in a Rainbow Dash sort of way.

    Eye Color: Tired, green eyes.

Cutie Mark: Black magnifying glass shape with a brown hoofprint in its 'lens'

Physique: Average build, moderately in shape. Most of the time, she seems to look tired, though. Even if she's not.

    Residence: Hoofington

Occupation: Private Investigator, just like her hero, Falcon Noir! (She's got all his books, you know) Unfortunately for her, in such a bright and cheerful world, her most common cases have to do with lost items or pets. Occasionally, some come with a thievery case, but most of those turn out to be just another lost item or pet. Why oh why can't she get a case like in those books?

Motivation: Helping ponies with their problems and cases, just like in those books she reads! It's good to help people find closure, and bring those in the wrong to justice.

Likes: Lollipops, hard-boiled noir detective novels, animals for their honesty (Totally not that they're adorable little things), ice cream.

Dislikes: No work. Cheerful and 'innocent' problems (It's always something innocent, it seems). Too much sunshine (it totally ruins the whole mood she tries to convey!)

Character Summary: Basically, her concept is a Film Noir-ish hard-boiled detective pony, trapped in a world that's happy and bright and cheerful and friendly, played for laughs. She acts all gruff and gloomy, but all she knows is the stories from the books she reads. She's nice to her fellow pony, as much as she tries to play otherwise. She gained her cutie mark after helping figure out who broke her class's classroom window. Her parents, a pair of farmers living near Fillydelphia, are still very much alive, and love her very much, throwing a monkey wrench into the 'dark, mysterious, and troubled past' angle she'd much like to have. She moved to Hoofington to get a fresh start in a new place, and to open 'Mystery Chaser Investigations'. She's usually seen with a lollipop in her mouth, and a fedora-esque hat atop her head when she's on the job. Depending on the weather, she even has a coat. Unfortunately, her saddlebags with crime investigation gear usually get left in her 'office', if one could call it that. She sleeps there, eats there, and has her mail sent there. Ponies in the area generally know her gloomy, grumpy face she puts on, and her friends know it for the act that it is.

  12. Welcome to the forum!

    THAT BRONY'S A PLAYSTATION USER!

Welcome to the forums. You'll be glad to know that the RP applications just reopened from a break, so if you want to join in, feel free! And enjoy your time here. c:

Wha? Apps are open again? I gotta get in on some of that action.

Hope we all have great fun together.

  13. Hi! Wow, you type some long posts. I get the feeling you'd be a pretty darn good role-player. :D

Yeah, I can get a bit wordy at times. A picture's worth a thousand words, right? So wouldn't a thousand words be worth a picture? All the better to describe what's happening.

Welcome to the boards! Have a good time here. :D

Thanks! I hope I will! Hope you do as well.

  14. Thanks for the welcome, Manestream and Orange Dart. No questions just yet. And yeah. Reading the rules before I post is one of the first things I usually do in a new place. Just helps to get a good feel for the place.

I suppose I could go into a bit more detail about my hobbies, but sometimes, I get a tad verbose. As for the fandom, I've browsed the generals since about... I'm not sure. I think it was either part 2 of the pilot, or the ticket master. Possibly Applebuck Season. That opening prologue sunk its hooks into me hard. Time and again in watching the series, I'm fascinated by just how grim and dangerous their world is, and at the same time, utterly amazed at how easily these ponies stay cheerful, happy, friendly, and not at all grimdarked up by this world of theirs that has time and again shown just how dangerous it is. The main and side characters actually have personality and life about them, as opposed to the braindead same-personality clone syndrome that sometimes afflicts animated shows intended for children. Even the BACKGROUND characters have been shown to have a little personality here and there. It's a wonderful world that holds many many layers, and I look forward to each episode, hoping to learn more about these ponies and their world.

Favorite pony is pretty much undecided at the moment, even after all these eps. Twilight's pretty far up there, though. As is Princess Celestia. Applejack just hasn't gotten enough character development, in my opinion. She's still good, but she could be better. I guess it's a case of it being difficult to build on a very down-to-earth earth pony. She'd probably do well to just have them fill in her history, in lieu of putting a magnifying glass on her personality, like some other ponies have had.

(Oh neat. It notifies you if a post has been made in the time that you've been typing away on your post, and gives a chance to review your post due to it.)

  15. Hello, fillies and gentlecolts. It's nice to meet you all, even though we may have met in less peaceful pastures before.

I've been lurking about for a while, and finally decided it was time to register, poke my nose in and say hello. I've had an interest in RPing in the world of Equestria for a while now, and once the applications open up again, I suppose I can. A few of the other RP groups I've been in seemed to enjoy having me about, so apparently, I've done something right about that in the past. In addition to dinking about and being something I'm not, I've also got bad humor to share, as well as modest art and writing skills. I've got a tendency to slip through the cracks, though. I'm easily forgettable, I guess. I've got an interest in the world of Equestria itself, as well as pony ergonomics, so perhaps I shall have a chance to indulge my interests here.

I suppose I've blathered on for long enough. I hope we can have a long and happy friendship together. (Now, I guess I need to wander about to try and get out of the low postcount corral, eh?)
