  1. YAY for "OVER A BARREL!"

That's one of my fave eps!

Maybe the "Last Roundup" will be in Appleoosa too?

    (one can only hope...)

    :D:D:D:D

I think it's possible based on the implied train theme in the DVD's title. As of today two of the episodes ("Over a Barrel" and "Hearth's Warming Eve") both involve the ponies riding a train at some point. Based on that there's a good chance that "the Last Roundup" will be about AJ and co. taking a train to another location (possibly Aaaa-pplelossa) for a rodeo.

  2. If worst come to worst I don't mind buying the episodes off iTunes since I feel Hasbro is completely within their rights to do so. My only concern is with the DRM interfering with my PMV production, doesn't it prevent people from editing the episodes they purchase?

Also I hope Hasbro is only after the episodes themselves and not the fan content created from it. Losing episodes might be bad but destroying the fan works is what will truly tear apart the fandom.

  3. My problem with the the last 2 episodes and Dash in general for this season is her flawed characterization. She's not shown a good natured pony that lets attention go to her head sometimes but just as a narcissistic attention horse. Dash was a braggart in S1 but we got to see more sides to her personality to balance her out.

In "Call of the Cutie" we she that Dash genuinely tries to help ponies in need when she takes time out of her busy schedule of napping to help Applebloom get her cutie mark. There was no ulterior motive or desperate plea for attention, Dash just honestly wanted to help another pony because she felt she could. While her ideas never worked out for AppleBloom her heart was in the right place.

We also got a lot more examples of RD's sense of loyalty and justice. Dash was willing to sever ties with Gilda despite their long standing friendship together once Gilda insulted her new friends that were only trying to help her. She defended Fluttershy as a filly when she was being bullied. Finally, the strongest example of this is in "Over a Barrel" when even after being humiliated by Little Strongheart she was the first and only pony to stand up for the Buffalo once she understood how they were robbed of their land.

Finally this episode had chance to justify her actions by focusing on one Dash's weaknesses. One of the things that made "Sonic Rainboom" so strong was that it's the first time we she Dash's fear of failure and her triumph over it through a second successful Sonic Rainboom. "Mare Do Well" also has a scene where RD expresses concern about being alone now that she isn't popular. While I wouldn't want Dash to get a Naruto-style sob story explaining her lonely life, I feel that this should been expanded on to redeem her somewhat and give more insight to her character.

Hopefully future episode have Dash showing more restraint and responsibility so that the last the last two episodes don't become pointless.

  4. While Tank did prove his worth to Rainbow through his loyalty, the fact that he's extremely slow and flightless make him an extremely difficult pet for Dash to care for. When Dash said she needed a pet that can keep up with her she literally means pet that can match her speed. If she ever wants play with Tank or just travel around Ponyville with him she'd have to slow down to his pace, which would be counter-productive for Rainbow, or tire herself trying to carry him from place to place.

And then there are the issues with living together. Although they never bring this up in the episode, Rainbow dash lives in home made of clouds so unless her pet has wing they wouldn't even be able to live together. (In my head canon I assume that Twilight used a more permanent version of the cloud walking spell on Tank so they could live together.)

While giving Tank flight may have been a cop(ter)-out it was necessary so that Tank wouldn't too much of a burden for Dash. She's pony that was born to fly and spends more time in the air than on her hooves, having a pet that takes the sky from her is like Owlicious being too noisy for Twilight to study or Opal constantly clawing Rarity's dresses. A pet that would prevent you from doing what you love is not worth keeping no matter how loyal they are.

  5. People like to pair them up not just because they're musical ponies but because they make for great odd couple. Octavia seems like a well educated, mild mannered and elegant pony who enjoy the finer things in life while Vinyl seems to be her exact opposite, a smart mouthed, rebellious party animal. The stronger the opposing personalities the more they secretly love each other, if you're wearing rose-tinted shipping goggles.
