1. I am also interested in participating in this. I just need to decide which character to use/whether or not I want to create a new character for this.

The problem with my main character is that a)she lives in Cloudsdale and b)she loves Cloudsdale. But there aren't too many Cloudsdale RPs around, I'm guessing because they are limited to Pegasi.

I'll probably decide which character to use when everypony else decides on a setting for this RP.

    Edit: Jane, learn to read.

Whirligig was falling way too quickly. She hated landing, she wasn't good at them, she was going to crash! The train whizzed by her, throwing a gust of wind in her direction that knocked her off balance. She flapped her wings rapidly but soon found herself helpless to break her fall. She closed her eyes and braced herself for impact.

And landed rather gracelessly in a snowdrift.

With a shiver and a shake she threw the snow from her head and wings and saddlebags, and watched mournfully as the train rocketed past her. Not one to be let down easily she shook the soft white powder (which, she thought to herself, was refreshingly similar in consistency to the clouds she loved so well) and sprung to the sky. She could make out the small, bleak skyline of the town of Stalliongrad and resolved to get there sooner rather than later. She took to the air once again and flew along the railway tracks, quickly finding the smoothest air flow and making up for lost time.

A few moments later she arrived at the station on the outskirts of the city, mere minutes after the train pulled into the station. As she lowered herself to the ground (this time far more slowly and gracefully) she heard one of the other ponies call out to the motley crew that had just tumbled out of one of the train cars, "I'd personally like to welcome you all to Stalliongrad."

She approached the group with a burst of self-confidence and introduced herself to one of the ponies nearby. Without even waiting for a response she asked "What's going on here?"

    ((RPing during Uni lectures ftw))

  3. This is a dangerous question to ask. I was at PonyCon Au over the weekend and someone got punched out for saying Pinkie Pie was worst pony. It was actually hysterical because the attacker was drunk and it's become a big joke to just about everyone who was at the con.

ANYways, I think Twilight Sp-, no wait, Pinkie err, actually Berry Punch, or maybe Applejack?

Whirligig didn't much like the ground. The solid, permanence of the earth daunted her. It was solid and unforgiving and so very hard. Clouds were constantly changing. They were springy and forgiving and easily moved and moulded. She worked in the weather factory on more than one occasion and cloud making was refreshingly simple and pliable. She knew where they came from and how they were made. The origins of the soil was a mystery to her.

That being said, she was slowly becoming used the idea of solidness beneath her hooves. Her friends in Cloudsdale were always encouraging her to leave the sky for a daytrip here or an excursion there. Having a brother living in Ponyville helped, of course. Her close friend Merry Day had been meant to accompany her to Stalliongrad this weekend, but had to cancel at the last minute leaving Whirligig alone at the last minute. Her saddlebags were filled with Rainbows - when the factory manager heard she was planning a weekend trip to the town, he had insisted she take with her a couple of cans that Stalliongrad's weather ponies had ordered. This meant that Whirligig felt obligated to go.

She knew Ponyville quite well. She had visited Canterlot once before, and Trottingham twice. But she had never been this far north before, let alone this far north on her own. The landscape was strange and unfamiliar, but mingled with her anticipation and uncertainty was an adventurous excitement. If she didn't love Cloudsdale so much; if she didn't simply adore living and working in the city in the sky then perhaps she would venture out of her home more often.

The weather ponies had created a marvelous air current this afternoon, and a flight that ought to have taken hours was much quicker once Whirligig found the wind and settled herself into its steady circuit. She was practically gliding on the southerly breeze as it carried her along the Delamare towards the bay.

As the clouds shifted and the ground slowly drifted in and out of her view, she noticed the ribbon of shining steel stretching towards the town and saw the locomotive barreling swiftly along. She had never ridden a train before and found herself wondering what it would be like to be inside one of those rapidly moving cars. She didn't think she would much fancy being boxed in like that, limited to the confines of the carriage which in turn can only go where the tracks lead, but it would be fun; a new experience for her.

Smiling to herself, she bent her head down and carried herself to the ground.

  5. I'll join! Cherryetta is a secondary character in a fanfic that will probably never see the light of day, and I think it would be fun to do more with her.

    Name: Cherryetta

    Race: Earth Pony

    Occupation: Cherry Farmer

    Wagon: small covered wagon

Reason for leaving: In short, she feuded with Cherries Jubilee and her brother, Black Forest. Her grandmother before her started from scratch in Dodge Junction, and she would prove her worth as a Cherry by doing the same elsewhere if she was unappreciated at home.

A Little bit more about Cherryetta:

Cherryetta hopes to start a legacy much like her Grandmother, Nanna Cherryanna did before her by planting a cherry orchard from the ground up in the far reaches of Equestria. She knows all about running one, having grown up in Dodge Junction working Cherry Hill Orchard with her family for as long as she can remember. Though she is usually an easygoing pony, there was an argument between her and her family: her mother, Cherries Jubilee, and her brother, Black Forest, closely following her grandmother's death and regarding the estate. Frustrated with everything that was happening, she decided the best thing to do would be to leave her family behind and start elsewhere.

"Oh, I heard DJ-P0N-3 and Octavia would be here, though I'm pretty sure they're not due to arrive until tomorrow," Whirligig commented, quickly getting over her embarassment as the conversation carried on. "And I've been here a few hours, so I'm due for a break pretty soon I would think," she paused, looking around for one of the organizers. Confident that Terrain would ensure nopony missed out on a map, especially with that handy telekinesis ability possessed by all adult unicorns, she approached him and requested a break.

The pegasus nodded, and said that due to the abundance of volunteers, Whirligig could take the rest of the day if need be. Cheerfully, the young mare returned to her friend with a smile.

"I can take the rest of the day if I want to. Is there anything you'd like to do?"

    As usual, Stormwing was late.

He wasn't a charioteer, thank goodness, and his name wasn't on any official list. But he had agreed to give some ponies rides up to ponyville on his back, and he would always, eventually, keep his word. He landed softly near the crowds of earth ponies and unicorns awaiting transportation up to the sky city, trying not to draw too much attention to himself or his wings. He looked around for an official, but saw nopony who would be able to talk to him. Instead, he decided to approach one of the waiting ponies and assist her 'off the record', so to speak.

He saw an earth pony mare with a pale purple coat standing aside, looking as though she was uncertain as to whether or not she should join the queue for balloons or chariots. Despite seeming out of place in the crowd of ponies, she seemed to carry herself with the confidence of a supermodel. He plastered the most charming grin he could muster on his face and approached her with confidence.

"Hello there," he said, extending a hoof in greeting, "you look like you could use a lift. Name's Stormwing, by the way. And you might be?"

((OOC: Psst, Midnight Rain, this one's for Cherry Cake ;-) ))

  7. I did that for mine. The Square that tales posted as being the standard size is actually a rectangle that is taller and narrower than the squares (again, actually rectangles) on the picture. I resized the picture piece to fit the square piece, then printed it off and traced it (mine's a pencil drawing). I don't have a scanner, but my friend in the next building has one, so I'll get the picture uploaded the next time I go over to her place (usually twice a week, so I'm due for a drop-in).

  8. Whirligig was very confused for a moment as the map she was reaching for levitated out of her reach. Then she heard his voice. Her cheeks flushed as she remembered the noise, the crowd, the dimmed lights, the drunkeness, and the foolish the jump from the stage that would have landed her in the hospital for sure if he hadn't caught her. Her head ached thinking about the calamity - and the hangover that followed. For a brief moment, she was entirely unsure how to procede.

"Terrain, it's so...good to see you!" she managed. Their friendship had certainly never been awkward before, and she decided it needn't be awkward now, either. She replaced the painted smile to her face and tried to act as natural as she could.

"I've been just fine. Got plenty of overtime hours at the weather factory this week, so I've been busy of course," she paused to momentarily turn her attention to another new arrival, "Welcome to Cloudsdale, enjoy the show!" She motioned for the Unicorn to move closer to her, so he wouldn't be in the way of the traffic still pouring into the crowded city. "What about you? Have you been to any good raves recently?"

    ------

((OOC: Midnight Rain, that looks fine by me. :) I'm already curious as to what sort of history is causing the evidenced friction between the two.))

  9. Why didn't anypony point out the error in the title? *smacks self*

Please follow the mane Equestria guidelines for this thread.

Applejane on friendshipismagic.org and I are one and the same; this has not been plagiarized.

I thought it would be interesting to start with the same premise on two different forums to see what the different outcomes might be.

    ------------------------------

Each year there is a Summer Sun Celebration on the longest day of the year, on which the ponies gather together to witness Princess Celestia raise the Sun. And every year, this celebration takes place in a different location.

The council members and dignitaries of the city of Cloudsdale have been advocating for the Summer Sun Celebration to take place in their shining City in the Sky, and it looked like for the 1002nd celebration, their request would finally be met! The only problem was that the earth ponies and unicorns disagreed with this arrangement - how would they participate in the celebrations if they were to take place on the clouds?

So Princess Celestia and her advisors came up with a plan. She would gather together all of the Unicorns in Equestria with magical abilities strong enough to solidly cast a cloud-walk spell that would last for three days, as well as Pegasus-drawn chariots and hot air balloons to transport the ponies to the City in the Sky. The centre of these operations was in Ponyville, the earth-town closest to Cloudsdale and with enough space for the small tent-city that would need to be established.

Now it is two days before the celebration, and everything has gone smoothly thus far. Pegasi look on in wonder as Earth Ponies and Unicorns line up, are touched with the magical horn of a powerful unicorn, and transported up into their shining city. The wingless ponies marvel at the softness of the clouds beneath their feet and the beauty of the city's architecture. The weather factory has been working doubly hard in the weeks leading up to the celebration, in anticipation of the crowds of ponies who would ask for tours of their establishment, which would require them to slow production nearly to a halt. The hotels and shops have extra staff and extra space, anticipating more customers than ever before.

Where do you fit into this grand scene? Are you a Pegasus Pony encouraging your friends to visit the finest city your race has to offer? Maybe you're helping with transportation (if you can't pull a chairot, then surely you can at least carry a small filly or colt on your back?) Are you a semi-powerful Unicorn wearied from the spell you were asked to perform time after time, yet excited for the opportunity to visit the clouded city? Maybe you're an Earth Pony who has only ever dreamed of visiting Cloudsdale - now you've just stepped out of the chariot and are eager to explore. Where will you go first? What would you like to see? Who would you like to meet? Rumour has it the Wonderbolts may even make an appearance and sign a few autographs.

Remember, if you're an earth pony or a unicorn, you only have three days before the spell will wear off, so take advantage of the time you do have. Anything is possible!

    CnYUT.png

"Welcome to Cloudsdale. Enjoy the Celebration." Whirligig is wearing her official blue and white volunteer's vest proudly. As the chariots and hot air balloons unload their passengers, she greets each one with a warm smile as she provides them with a detailed map of the city, complete with vouchers and a to-do list of all the best sights and 'tourist traps'.

"Isn't it strange?" she whispers to Eastra, one of her best friends who is also a volunteer distributing the maps. Her smile returns as a green earth pony passes by the gate. "Welcome to Cloudsdale, enjoy the celebration!"

"What do you mean?" Eastra asks, "Hello, Welcome! We hope you enjoy your visit to Cloudsdale." a brown unicorn takes the map from her telekinetically. She stares, unused to seeing Unicorn magic in action.

Whirligig laughs at her friend's awed expression. "Just that. Unicorn magic. Earth ponies, they're all - Welcome to Cloudsdale, we're glad you came! - here, in our home. Usually we have to visit them in theirs. I still can't get over it."

One of the event organizers approaches the girls, clipboard in hoof. "Eastra March? I've got you down for a backup charioteer. Would you mind helping me out for just one loop? One of my steadies needs a rest."

"Of course," Eastra gives Whirligig her remaining pile of maps and follows the coordinator. Whirligig gives her friend a wave before turning her attention back to welcoming the newcomers. With her friend gone for at least three quarters of an hour, she hopes that she'll soon see a face she recognizes from her days spent in Ponyville. And anyways - she's been distributing these pamphlets since dawn and surely she's due for a break soon.

"Welcome to Cloudsdale, we hope you enjoy the Celebration!"

  10. The ground shook, jolting Stormwing awake. The first thing he noticed was the silence. The second thing he noticed was the screaming.

    "The horror, the horror!"

    "A true catastrophe."

    "Somepony do something!"

He dashed as quickly as he could out of bed and into the streets. Seeing no immediate threat, he almost decided that the florists were simply overreacting, as was expected of them. But when somepony mentioned the Everfree Forest, and he noticed a handful of ponies galloping in that direction, he took off to follow them on wing.

  11. Happy anniversary! I only have a very general idea of when I started.

Same here. :P It was after the 2nd season started, but before the end of October. :P

Anyways, yes, happy anniversary! :) I wish I knew mine. :S

  12. Just looking for a simple, lighthearted character to get things going, seeing as I'm brand new around here. Any and all suggestions for improvement are more than welcome. :)

    Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

    Name: Whirligig

    Sex: Female

    Age: Mare

    Species: Pegasus

    Coat Color: Cornflower Blue (#96D5E1)

Mane/Tail/Markings Both her mane and tale are an orangish red (#F33410) with yellow (#FCF200) streaks. No special markings.

    Eye Color: Dark Green (#247530)

    Cutie Mark:

    59CJa.png

A four-coloured Pinwheel on a brown stick, representing her knowledge and interest in air currents, while the colours reflect her own vibrant and colourful personality. Recieved after she won first place for her school in a fifth grade science fair for her model of a wind-powered flour mill. She was the third pony in her class to receive her cutie mark (her partner, Connie Struction, also got her cutie mark for the project; Whirligig provided the design and research, but it was Connie who built the model and earned herself a cutie mark of a hammer, saw and nails).

Physique: General body-type, like the mane six.

Origin: Cloudsdale, born and raised. Her mother, Windygust, has been a single parent since her husband left when Whirligig was a small foal. Windygust worked hard in the weather factory to try to earn enough to make ends meet, as well as try to provide a loving and stable environment for her two children - Whirligig and her older brother, Stormwing. Often she ended up overcompensating, calling Whirligig "Mommy's little Princess," which may or may not have gone to Whirligig's head.

Occupation and Motivation: Whirligig presently works in the weather factory, among thousands of other Cloudsdale residents. Her cutie mark, and special talent, relate to her complex understanding of wind currents and how to produce or utilize the wind, but financial circumstances prevented her from obtaining the proper qualifications necessary to pursue the study of wind. She is presently in an advanced traineeship program - if she works in the factory for five years, they will assist her with paying to study meteorology on a tertiary level. Her present responsibilities include rainbow making and snowflake shaping.

Likes: Socializing, spending time with and meeting other ponies at parties. On the rare occasion she doesn't want to go out with her friends, she's happy to read a sappy romance novel. She also enjoys keeping track of the latest developments in meteorological research.

Dislikes: Getting her hooves dirty, or missing out on the fun, needing to spend more than 5 minutes in her brother's apartment.

    Character Summary:

Whirligig loved her mother, and aimed to please. She put plenty of effort into her schooling, and her hard work earned her a B average, which was good enough for her. Her favourite class was meteorology and though her mother may have innitially had higher hopes for her, Whirligig soon decided that she would be a weather pony, like the majority of pegasus ponies.

Whirligig found it easy to make friends throughout primary school, and especially in middle- and high-school. She was most definitely an extrovert. She was the first to welcome new students and take them under her wings. She also had a sense of humour - she could put anypony in an awkward situation at ease with a lighthearted joke or story - she was ever an optimist. Sometimes, however, she was too busy being idealistic to be realistic. She had so much faith in Ponykind, believed that everypony had the best of intentions and sometimes this meant she would be taken advantage of by other ponies. She was also rather weak - while she had plenty of knowledge about flight and weather systems, she would never be as strong and fast a flyer as the famous Rainbow Dash. Actually, she rather disliked racing and flying tricks, and would much prefer spending time with her friends at a party, seeing a movie together or sharing lunch.

Most recently, Whirligig is still as sociable and colourful as ever. She enjoys the night life, spending time in pubs, clubs and bars along Cloudsdale's Culture Crawl. She loves being in the company of friends and acquaintances, some of whom have even convinced her to spend more time on the ground (with shoes on, of course) and befriend the Unicorns and Earth Ponies whose weather she creates. For somepony who rarely ever left Cloudsdale, she relished the new experiences the ground had to offer and was fascinated by the capabilities of Unicorn magic. Still, at the end of the day Cloudsdale was her home, and she was still persnickety little Whirligig, Mommy's little girl.

Other: Whirligig uses “Bluebird” in the same way Applejack uses “Sugarcube” – as a blanket term of endearment for anypony. If the “Bluebird” in question is significantly younger than she is, the term is replaced with “Little Bird”. Close friends might have the “blue” replaced with another adjective, such as “Silly Bird” or “Gentle Bird.”

  13. Thanks so much, Crescentblaze. I've been exploring the site for a while now and it looks fabulous. :) If there's one thing I'm never short of, it's questions so I'm sure everypony will be sick and tired of me asking them. :P
