  1. Posting this here instead of Creative Corral for potential spoilers on Fluttershy's story... but when she started singing, did anypony else think this?

    What's this? What's this?

    There's color everywhere!

    What's this?

    Those flutters in the air!

    What's this?

    I can't believe my eyes

    I must be dreaming

Wake up, Shy, this isn't fair!

    What's this?

    What's this? What's this?

    There's something very wrong...

    What's this?

    Those birds are singing songs!

    What's this?

    The trees are lined with

    Little creatures chatt'ring

    Every creature seems so happy!

    Have I possibly gone daffy?

    What is this?

    What's this?

    There's squirrels rushing though trees

    Instead of empty clouds

    They're busy storing nuts

    In a happy squeaking crowd!

    There's bunnies in every burrow

Oh, I can't believe my eyes

And in my wings I feel the warmth

    That's coming from inside....

    Oh, look

    What's this?

Those little masked raccoons! They wash?

Why that looks so so cute! Inspired!

They're gathering 'round to dip their paws in

    Washing berries they desire!

    What's this?

    What's this?

Those tweets, inside a little nest, how sweet!

    And who would ever think?

    And why?

They're babies, just tiny little things

They've got such tiny little wings!

And there's a parent for each one

So, now, correct me if I'm wrong

    This looks like fun

    This looks like fun

Oh, could it be I got my wish?

    What's this?

    Oh my, what now?

    The creatures are asleep

And look! There's warm earth underneath

No falls, no drop-offs here to dump and scare them

From their safe den, only little cozy things

    Secure inside their dreamland....

    What's this?

The race tracks are all missing

And the trick rings can't be found

And in their place there seems to be

    Sweet mousies all around!

    Instead of hooves, I swear

I can hear music in the air

The smells of fur and feathers

    Are absolutely everywhere...!

    The sights, the sounds

    They're eveywhere and all around

I've never felt so good before!

This newfound warmth inside of me is welling up,

    I simply cannot get enough!

I want it, oh, I want it

Oh, I want it for my own!

    I've got to know!

    I've got to know!

What is this place that I have found?

    What is this?

    ...Ponyville...? ....hmm...

  2. hi hi

I dunno about Earth Ponies (or Pegasi for that matter) not being able to get into a school for magic, I just don't think it would come up very often. Given how much magic stuff Twilight reads in books, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a non-unicorn that was a brilliant magic theorist, inventing all sorts of useful new spells, even though she couldn't use them herself. (It might even be easier for her to look at the big picture, since she wouldn't be connected to a specific type of magic)

That's a good point! With a talented unicorn partner, a researcher able to look at it objectively could go a long way.

  3. I don't remember the seaponies, but I didn't watch much of any of the other pony shows. They were terribad in my opinion and I just couldn't stand watching them. :s

I do remember the flutter ones though. Although you've been welcomed already... welcome to the herd!

Haha, true. XD I loved them as a kid, but nowadays... there's a lot of nostalgia value, but wow. (I was dismayed to see Spike in FiM in fact, but quickly learned that he is NOT as obnoxious as he was back in my day and was happy again.)

Seaponies still fascinate me though. Seahorses are, as a rule, awesome.

    And thanks!

  4. Here's his inks and colors! Tweaked the bangs with Bramble's suggestions of making it more manelike. 83

    ggWIP-1.png

Not sure what colors you had in mind for his cutie mark, so left it off - can add once I have those. ^.^ Also, sorry this took so long, allergies made me ded.

  5. Rough'n'Ready didn't often fetch up at Bareback Gulch during his patrols. Oh, there was certainly plenty to be done here, and it was as good a place as any to pause for supplies, but staying long-term (which was, granted, more than three days by his definition) was something he rarely considered. So, while he did drop by the town on occasion, it wasn't so often one saw him at Rhinestone Quarry.

Apparently his decision to stop by today had been a fortunate one.

The aging stallion was as surprised as anypony when the youngling came stumbling in on his last hooves, but Ready wasn't the sort to stand around gaping. A second or so was all he needed to orient before wordlessly taking a pitcher and retrieving water himself - nothing too cold, it might shock the boy - and making his way to the collapsed pony, pouring a few drops on his lolling tongue to see if it would get his attention before setting the vessel down where the stranger could get to it without rising to his hooves.

    "Drink all of that. Slowly."

Ready's tone was stern, though not unkind, and he stood by to be sure his directive was followed.

  6. Doodled these at work, so please forgive the general crappiness.

Anyway, gave him the button eyes you see on Winona and Angel, and exaggerated the ears. Also gave him lil fangs in most shots, as I think flying foxes have some nice canines and it seemed to fit the image.

    morty1.png

Gave him a shorter, rounder muzzle here. Body turned out odd though.

    morty2.png

And experimenting with the head a little, adding tufts of fur, in one case removing the fang and downplaying the ears and in another giving him round eyes. I think the round eyes look too innocent, personally, but the smaller ears might work with more of a leaf shape (smaller bases) and removing the furtufts?

  7. Raspberry Blossom trotted in from the back garden just as the birds really started singing, stifling a yawn with a hoof. Ugh - this was one of the downsides of her sister heading off to Ponyville. Someone had to tend her garden, someone had to bring the fruits in early so they could be used for the day's pastries, and that someone, somehow, was Raspberry.

Oh well. Fresh berries meant more for her to work with, and she was sure the extra work would show her what she was supposed to be doing. Raspberry had outgrown the stage of checking her haunch every few minutes for evidence of a cutie mark (sidelong glances at reflective surfaces she just happened to pass did NOT count), but that didn't mean she wasn't still waiting and hoping.

Setting that aside for now, she swung her full saddlebags onto the counter, absently catching and eating a raspberry that went rolling for freedom. Hm. Raspberry tortes could be the special of the day - she could arrange fresh berries in the shape of raspberry flowers, and use candied mint leaves for the raspberry leaves! Satisfied with her plan, she went straight to work; she knew her parents wouldn't mind this bit of initiative.

A few hours later, just as the streets outside were beginning to fill, the first batch of tortes was ready to go. Raspberry gently nudged one last mint leaf into place before stepping back to admire her handiwork.

"Beautiful," she said aloud, beaming at the treats. Almost a shame to eat them! Ah well, beauty is fleeting. She picked up the tray and headed out to the main shop area, setting the tortes on the display counter. Then, with careful steps (dainty like a pegasus or some other properly delicate filly, not clodding around like some overgrown monster), she walked to the front to turn the sign to 'OPEN'.

Her parents were already in the back working on fresh bread; the day was ready to begin proper.

  8. Welcome to the forums! Be sure to stop by Getting Started for a whole saddlebag full of goodies and useful information!

    Thanks. I... love reading rules and Getting Started threads and the like. >_> Possibly because I admin at other boards and spend some time going "The rules are the first thing you see, guys, it's not hard OTL". So I try to adhere to them elsewhere, and sorry if I ever derp out. ;-;

    I love your icon! ;o;

    And welcome to the boards!

Thank you. I've found... I love making Cutie Marks. >_>

    Welcome to Equestria!

Thank you very much! This is such a friendly place - it's refreshing! <3

I saw your Strawberry Blossom and sea-pony character in another thread yesterday - cute ideas! I really wish there were more pony types in FiM, especially sea-ponies and flutter-ponies. We had such variety in the original toy line! I'll be crossing my fingers hoping a few show up. :D

Me too - the Seaponies were my absolute favorites when I was little. (I think my complete adoration of seahorses today is linked to it. ^^)

  9. [ Pony Related Character ]

Name: Raspberry Blossom. You can get away with calling her Raspberry, but Razzy is reserved for her parents and sister.

    Gender: Female

    Age: Filly (14 - 16 range)

    Species: Earth Pony

    Pelt Color: White

Mane/Tail Color & Style: Red with blue streaks. Her tail is carried high and falls roughly to her fetlocks, while her mane is roughly to the bottom of her chest. Both are kept tightly braided, as she is self conscious about the curly cowlicks they tend to fall into otherwise.

    Eye Color: Medium-dark green

Cutie Mark: Undiscovered. It will be a blue-frosted cupcake topped with a raspberry, raspberry blossom, and raspberry leaf. raspberrymark.png

Physique: A large, heftily built Clydesdale type. She is sensitive about this.

Residence: Fillydelphia, above her parents' bakery and patessirie, Sugar Blooms.

    Occupation: Assistant Baker

Motivation: Raspberry knows she wants to join her parents' bakery business, and has no reservations about following that path, as she truly loves baking and decorating pastries. But she still hasn't found what it is that makes her stand out in particular. Perhaps she should keep honing her own decorating talents instead of trying to simply imitate her parents, or worry less about her appearance and more about the treat designing that makes her happy....

Likes: Baking, decorating, and eating fancy pastries; days out shopping or, after saving up for a few weeks, a spa trip; rainy weekends when she can sleep in. Raspberry can be slightly high-maintenance, but she works hard for her nice things and loves treating her friends to personalized pastries.

Dislikes: Being teased for her size(she really is just bigboned, thank you, working in a pastry shop has nothing to do with it!), or for being a blank flank at her age. A messy kitchen - making a mess while you work is okay, even fun, but it has to be cleaned up immediately! Poorly decorated cakes, or people who chow down on her beautiful pastries without taking time to look at them - the presentation is part of the whole experience!

Character Summary: Raspberry Blossom is the second child in her family, and unlike her sister Strawberry Blossom she loves baking - or more specifically, cake decorating. Because of this, she's been expecting her cutie mark to appear early, and is frustrated by its no-show status - how is it that Strawberry, who went so long without an obvious passion, got hers before Raspberry, who has always known what her talent was and what she wants to do with her life? Add this to the blank-flank teasing from some of her peers, and her insecurity over the Clydesdale build that Strawberry seems so comfortable with, and Raspberry has to admit she's more than a little jealous of her cutie-marked, confident, out-on-her-own sister. While she misses Strawberry, Raspberry has to admit she's a little glad her sister is out of the house and bakery - maybe now, with the extra workload, she'll really find what's going to make her shine, and maybe even find what makes Strawberry so happy with their most unladylike build.

Maybe the answer is even in Strawberry's garden - someone has to attend it while Strawberry is off wandering around in creepy forests, and while gardening is a chore rather than a passion to Raspberry, an artist can find inspiration anywhere - right?

[[image coming soon. @_@ Sorry to put that on my last two apps, allergies make the arting go away it seems.]]

  10. Strawberry cheered up immediately on realizing the pegasus was neither a ghost nor offended, and raised her head with a cheerful flick of her tail.

"The forest?" She looked around with an air of satisfaction, smiling. "I like it! See, I've never seen so many plant grow on their own. Meant to go in earlier, but those night-blooming flowers - I wonder what makes 'em do that? Most plants need the sun to live, don't they? So it seems strange for 'em to open up at night instead... guess I better look at 'em more, maybe go to the library... wonder how they'd do outside the forest...."

She abruptly realized she'd wandered off track and cleared her throat.

"Erm, sorry. I'm Strawberry Blossom. Kind of new in town - pleased to meet you! Heh, I didn't think many ponies lived out here... someone told me a pegasus called Fluttershy lives close to where I do... maybe pegasi just do better out here." Strawberry was dangerously close to going off-topic again, so she nudged herself back to the question at hand.

"Anyway. I plan on spending a little bit... a lot bit... of time out here looking at the plants. So maybe I can help you out a little when I happen to be here. Yanno, looking under and over and around things for plants, I might find your... whatevers."

  11. [ Pony Related Character ]

    Name: Rough'n'Ready

    Gender: Male

    Age: Older (roughly mid-fifties)

    Species: Earth Pony

Pelt Color: A bright blue slightly faded with age

Mane/Tail Color & Style: Brownish black, lightly streaked with gray. His mane is very short and covered by a khaki slouch hat; he has a short bobtail. Ready also has a mostly-grayed mustache and bushy gray eyebrows.

Eye Color: Blue. He wears a pair of pince-nez glasses with a thin chain on the right side connected to a red bandanna.

Cutie Mark: An Ursa Major pawprint

Physique: Average height with a compact, muscular build. Ready is getting a bit rounder about the midsection as he ages.

Residence: Between various points of Roughrider Ridge as a self-appointed patrol pony.

    Occupation: Self-appointed patroller/'cavalry' pony

Motivation: "Well. As a young colt I was quite sickly, and teased for that as well as my glasses, and so I would take nearly any dare to prove how tough I was. Finally, one day the dare was to enter a known Ursa Major cave. The beast was not in residence at the time, and it was years before I realized how fortunate that was; still, I realized that I was unafraid, and at that time I realized that I should use this to explore wild areas and make reports on the movements of dangerous beasts near settlements, driving them off if needed. The beast's pawmark appeared on my flank then, and thus my patrols became my calling."

Likes: A good hard gallop; a nice camp in undeveloped areas; a good strong tea at the end of a gallop, though he won't say know to something stronger still; educating foals about the wild areas and teaching them to survive.

Dislikes: Ponies getting bent out of shape over teasing - granted it CAN go too far, but some light teasing never hurt anypony and made him the stallion he is today; coddling youngsters; ponies who insist on giving him juvenile nicknames based on the Ursa cave incident; the word can't - you ALWAYS can, you just need to find it in you.

Character Summary: A tough, no-nonsense pony, Rough'n'Ready was sickly and asthmatic as a foal and often teased for his glasses and weak body. Rather than hide from this, he became determined to prove himself - training his body with long gallops to raise his endurance, taking on any challenge presented, and becoming a champion brawler amongst the other young stallions of his day. After gaining his cutie mark in the Ursa Major cave, Ready set out to make good on his perceived calling; ever since late colthood he has roamed Roughrider Ridge, determinedly tracking and reporting on dangerous beasts and working on settling disputes in the region's wild settlements, only pausing to help raise his daughter. Ready's filly is near marehood now, as tough as her father and twice as wild (something he tolerates with a mix of pride and exasperation; after all, he can patrol the Ridge or he can control his daughter, but he cannot do both). Though he is beginning to feel his age now, Ready is not yet ready to give up his wild nomadic lifestyle, and continues to be a fixture in the ridge; if you find yourself out there and in need of help, Rough'n'Ready can be counted on to see you through.

((Image coming soon. I will be advertising to see if someone will want to play his daughter, so left her mostly blank-canvas for that. ^.^))
