  1. "The park, eh? Thanks, I'll have to head by there early tomorrow morning, get a feel for things."

Lavender took another sip of her stout, when she felt her belly rumbling. How long ago had she eaten? She couldn't remember, but that was nothing new, she forgot things all the time. Speaking of which, she should probably find a place to sleep for the night.

"Hey, uh, what would you suggest for eating? I could use a snack. Also, do you know of any cheap Inns around here? I'm a little low on money, and I'd rather not sleep in the park."

  2. My house is like a spider haven. There's a cellar spider family living on top of my tv case, about 4 funnel weaver webs in the corners of my windows, and various other spiders roaming the house, except for the ones my cats eat. I let them be, simply because they eat everything else that comes into my home, such as flies, moths, mosquitos, and the occasional roach. The only spider I dont let stay in my house is the black widow, simply because Id rather not pay for a hospital visit, and I dont want to wake up to find my cat died. I've only found 4 or 5 black widows so far, but that may be because they cant find much food indoors, what with the competition.

  3. Lavender idly sipped at her drink, only somewhat listening to the other ponies chattering. She was busy contemplating where to settle down her shop, and was watching the candles flicker. She was about halfway done with her mug when the barkeep slid back over, apologizing for ignoring her.

"Oh it's quite all right, I'm not one for idle chit-chat anyhow. This stout is very good by the way, if just a little bit strong for my tastes."

Lavender thinks for a moment, "By the way, do you by chance know where there's a lot of hoof traffic here? I'm looking to settle down my tea shop, and I want to be sure it'll be somewhere that wont be out of everypony's way."

  4. I've actually only heard of the domestic cat doing that... If you could cite examples of other species of cat that hunt for fun it would be appreciated.

My theory is this btw... Domesticated animals are likely to hunt and kill for fun because they don't need to hunt for survival. Same as humans. Wild animals hunt to survive. They can't just waste a kill.

I may be mistaken about the larger cats, but I do remember that dolphins hunt and kill other sea animals for no reason at all, and like male lions, will kill babies so they can mate with the mother.

  5. Lavender, having been examining a knothole in the wood bar, didn't notice that the barkeep had walked over to her. After he inquired to what she might want, she looked up from the bar, slightly confused for a moment before catching up.

"Oh. Um.. I don't know, what would you suggest? I'm not all that picky, and always willing to try local flavors."

Now that she was caught up and aware, she took a better look at the barkeep. He was a gray pony, wearing a cool looking hat, and he had an air of friendliness about him. He seemed like nice enough pony.

  6. It is a shame that the creatures we look down upon are often more civilized than ourselves. I've never heard of a predatory animal killing for fun,

Many species in the cat family, especially the domestic household cat, hunt and kill even when not very hungry.

  7. The only insect-like creatures that have sentience are changlings and parasprites (and are the parasprites even sentient?). And we all know how those go... But basically, insects are not shown at all to have sentience. The only insects in Equestria that have been shown have been average run of the mill insects... Thus far, only animals on similar scale or bigger than ponies have been shown to possess sentience. IE: Zebra, Sea Serpent, Dragons, Ponies (obviously), Sheep, Donkies, Mules, Griffons. The others on similar scale haven't even shown to be verbal (manticore, Cereberus). Smaller creatures, pretty much anything Fluttershy needs to take care of (which seems to include insects), are nonverbal and non-sentient. They aren't even self-reliant outside of the Everfree Forest.

Unless there is precedence shown in the show, it is unlikely to be accepted in Mane RP.

while there hasnt been any precedence for talking insects, they have been shown to have some intelligence, mostly in MTBPW, and putting your hoof down. They show an ability to understand pony speech, and an ability to interact with them on a more thought required basis (helping fluttershy with her training, participating in a contest). While they seem to need a pony to care for them, that also seems to be the case for every animal not in the everfree forest, no matter its intelligence. sentience != language

    also, cows dontcha know.

  8. ((I cast level 4 necrothread!))

Lavender Mint, being new in town, did what any pony would do: wander aimlessly, getting to know the place. She wandered up and down the streets, taking in the sights, getting yelled at by other ponies for being in the way, and generally enjoying herself, when she found herself standing in front of an average looking red brick building. Upon closer inspection, she saw that it was in fact a pub, called the prancing pony.

Lavender wandered into the pub, only sort of paying attention to where she was going, and ended up running into a few tables and chairs on her way over to the bar, where a gray bartender and a few other ponies were gathered. After finally making it to the bar, she sat down, a couple seats away from the other ponies, content to wait until they were done with their conversation, she was in no hurry.

  9. An ant mock war? I can't say I'm familiar with that.

I read somewhere about a species of ants that when they have hostilities between colonies, they would assemble forces within sight of each other, then the ants would start posturing, and generally try to look the toughest, and fights were determined that way. Also, some ant species often take slaves of their defeated enemies.
