  1. I have too much fun working out which Primarch (Warhammer 40k) each of the mane six is, and apparently I'm not the only one. In my opnion: Twilight is most like either Magnus the Red or Guilliman, Fluttershy is either Sanguinius or Leman Russ, Rainbow Dash is most like Jaghatai Khan, Rarity is Fulgrim, Applejack is Rogal Dorn, and Pinkie Pie is the unknown factor. She might be Leman Russ, and I've seen her portrayed as Lorgar, but both are stretching it a little.

  2. Bizarrely enough, I ended up taking the plunge today, and then finding this thread immediately after.

I went on a an expedition to get some WH40k books and I had about twelve dollars left over, so I went to Toys'R'Us to see if I could get one of the smaller MLP toys. I was hoping to get a Rarity toy, but the only Rarity they had in stock was one of the more expensive butterfly winged ones. I was then going to get Cupcake, until I saw that they had a Pinkie Pie. I got the Pinkie Pie, but I am planning on returning soon to get the Cupcake toy.

  3. Hey everypony! I've just recently had my first OC, Clockwork, accepted, and I've been itching to do some roleplaying! Of course, with me being a bit of a shy idiot (or just plain unlucky), I'm having trouble finding open threads with out already having a billion replies.

There's a link in my signature with Clockworks info. He can be pretty much anywhere there's a city, though I could probably get a bit creative and find an excuse for him to be out in the countryside.

    Thanks!

  4. Hmm, well, I saw that one of Clockwork's motivations is to make kids smile. My idea was maybe they're at a sort of jobs fair, and they're there to educate the little ponies on their jobs and what they do. They bump into each other there. Beyond that, I guess we can just see where it goes.

That sounds like a much better idea! Do you want to start the thread, or should I?

  5. I'm interested in getting some rp as well. My character Clockwork was recently accepted, and I've been itching to roleplay since. The only way I can think of off the top of my head for them to meet is maybe Clockwork crashing headfirst into Starlight, because Clockwork is a complete klutz like that. If you can think of any better ideas, that would be great :).

  6. I admit I like Discord. He's witty, and for some definitions of the word, funny. But that's not the main reason I like him. The main reason I like him?

    He's a credible threat.

Take Nightmare Moon for example. At no point did we, as the audience think that there was no way the mane six could win without something completely from left field. With Discord, the mane six were all separated and the Elements of Harmony had failed. There was a darkest hour and it was only Celestia's timely intervention that saved Equestria.

I think that Discord was pretty much unrepentant torturer, which is actually why I like him, because that makes him a big threat.

  7. I was reading the information on the Stalliongrad military, and I have a bit of a question about it.

It's mentioned in the info that there's a core of military police, and I was wondering what relation it had to the rest of the Stalliongrad military? Is it a part of the military (in this case you might want to use the corps, but don't quote me on that)? Or is it a separate entity?

    Thanks!

  8. The show does kind of have the message "Femininity is awesome" but I think it's as a facet of one of the show's larger messages "There's more than one way of being girl, and all of them are valid." For example, the show never does anything that says, for example, Rarity and Fluttershy are better at being girls than Applejack and Rainbow Dash. It's one of the reasons I like this show.

But you should probably take everything I say about femininity/masculinity with a grain of salt, because I've never understood the whole idea that some things are feminine things and other things are masculine. I've pretty much always thought along the lines of "So, making fabric with large pointy things is feminine, but carving wood with equally pointy things is masculine. Is there actually any logical reason for that?"

I've also never particularly liked the feminist idea that women are equal because we're different. I'm of the philosophy that women are equal because, push comes to shove, we're the same. But I guess that's rebellious kindergartner talking.

I'm seconding the notion that Ginger Mint is almost impossible to disagree with, but I'm also adding Dessa to the list of people almost impossible to disagree with.

That's my very off-topic two cents anyway.

  9. You're making me pick? I realise I keep saying that, I must be really bad at polls.

I had to flip a coin to pick my favourite to vote for. The one that one the toss was the Shannon Kent version. Sorry extended version, you didn't quite make it.

Out of the 'proper' versions of the theme, I'd go for the Season 2 version, mainly because it has a harp solo in it.

  10. I have to agree with Ginger Mint and Dessa with the possible masculine/feminine moral. I kinda like how they didn't directly make it that moral, because that means that there's other things it could apply to. For example, it could mean for somepony "I can be in the 'dumbo' class and not be dumb."

I kinda wished that this episode was around for me when I was a little kid, so I could watch it. Not that I would of course, because when I was a little kid I had an irrational hatred of all things 'feminine'. I think it was because my little kindergartner brain took "I am a girl who likes boyish things instead of girlish things, and that's okay," and went a little too far with it till it became "ALL GIRLY THINGS MUST BE DESTROYED". I also think the whole "Girls should be beautiful, guys should be smart" was getting too me. I still don't like the idea that girls should be beautiful and not smart, but I've developed a thicker skin for it, and I've redirected my anger toward the idea itself, as opposed the 'girly' things. I still wish I could of watched this episode to speed that process up, pity you could've never got me to watch it.

When you think about it, Spike could be half pony. His head is very similar to the standard female pony head. But then again, how could a pony and a dragon crossbreed and produce viable offspring? Personally, I think that there might be more than one type of dragon, and Spike might be different kind compared to the teenage ones we saw. There’s also the fact that Spike’s growth and the stages he goes through in Secret of My Excess look very different and go much faster than the teenage dragons we saw. There’s also the fact that he has no wings, and never got any when he temporarily grew up. I think that there might be Flying Dragons and Land Dragons, both of them having very different life cycles, and Spike is a Land Dragon as opposed to the Flying Dragons like the ones we saw.

  11. I am squeeing over the phoenixes. SUCH PRETTY COLOURS! Seriously, the dragon chase scene with them was awesome.

Rarity was a little annoying at the beginning of the episode, but her characterization picked up again after the first scene.

Bully dragons? Kinda predictable. I was thinking along those lines when I saw the teaser summary on Wikipedia, and that was confirmed as soon as I actually saw the teenage dragons.

Spike's pet phoenix is so cute. I don't think what he did was stealing. From what I can tell, the parents pretty much went "We're going to have to move nest to get away from those dragons, the loss of one egg is acceptable compared to possibly losing all the hatchlings going back to get a rotten egg." Though of course, that's assuming phoenixes follow the laws of actual nature, as opposed to cutesy/disney nature.

I'm now going to re-watch the phoenix chase scene. Again.

  12. The MLP:FiM universe crosses over fairly well, provided you play up the cognitive dissonance. For example, a Warhammer 40k crossover could work very well (Forces of Friendship vs Forces of GRIMDARK anyone?). It's a pity I've only found two such crossovers: one was very silly, but well written; the other had all the hallmarks of a writer still learning the ropes and not getting it quite right on the first go.

    Edited because I can't spell.

  13. You're making me pick?

Seriously, while admit that I like them all, My favourite has to be Becoming Popular. It's an awesome song, and it's from the episode where I started to actually like Rarity. For my second favourite, it's a tie between Smile and Opportunity, with Opportunity being just a tiny bit better than Smile .(Technically that would make Smile my third favourite, but who's counting? :P)

If I had to pick a least favourite, it would be Find a Pet. It's not a bad song, it's just a little formulaic and disney-ish for my tastes.

This thread has officially made me watch Becoming Popular again and have a costume geek-out. (Ooh, there's the one from Green isn't Your Colour! And there's her Gala dress! And that one looks like the one from her Gala fantasy!)

  14. I actually don't mind waiting. It's part of my weekend schedule; I read some MSTed fan fiction saturday morning, and then watch My Little Pony sunday morning (I watch on sunday because I'm about 23 hours ahead of America).
