  1. Oh yeah, One more thing -

The last time I visited America,

I bought a bunch of books that I thought might help me out.

    They are :

    1. THE DESKTOP STUDIO -Emile D. Menasché

    2. Getting Started In Computer Music -Mark Nelson

    3. How Music Works - John Powell

I'm going to read all of them, of course, but I have been pressed for time lately, and I don't know which one would be better to read first - All of them seem so interesting.

Should I start at the very basics, and learn more about music itself before I start to try and make my own?

Or should I just start by learning the program itself, and toy with it a little, and get used to it?

Anyways, thank you for your replys!

    They were very helpful c:

  2. Not really the message I'm trying to give.

You'll need to invest /something/ but you don't need to to put much money towards.

You just simply need some way of entering notes and chords into your music software.

Buying a very expensive camera does not make you a good photographer.

p.s. don't ever buy 'SkullCandy' headphones. The frequency response range is shockingly poor for price. It's VERY easy to pick up cheaper h/phones with a wider response.

SkullCandy Frequency response: 20-20K Hz £40 on Amazon

Sony MDR-XD200 Frequency response: 8-25k Hz £20 on Amazon

Those Sonys have the wider range for half the price, capable of producing much lower (bass) frequencies (8Hz) and much higher frequencies (25,000Hz.

    Trend and brand-names aren't everything.

Do your research and shop smart. You won't need to spend much money at all.

Thank you for the info Artax :)

Oh, umm, well what do you recommend/use then?

The only ones I have are :

    Dr dre's in-ear earphones,

(This, I regret i bought. It breaks easily, and cost way too much. After Services are terrible too..)

And the earphones that come with the i-Phone.

And, umm, my dad bought me Audioengine's Audioengine 2.

He says it's supposed to be the best, yet cheap computer speakers. Is this good enough for monitoring? I do say, it does sound pretty cool. :D ( Our house is an apartment, so we probably can't turn the volume up very loud - so i think i might just go buy headphones..)

  3. Well, as Artax said, if you're not willing to put money into it, you won't get anywhere without learning how to severely tweak what you have. For instance, since I finished my first decent track, I've poured at least 500 dollars into equipment, and software, and even so, I need more. Right now, I'm working with Fruity Loops Studio 10, Fruity Loops Studio Mobile (on the iPhone), a Korg Minikey2 midi controller, Dubturbo 2.0 (For beatmapping), Sonivox Wobble (Killer software, if you know how to tweak it right) Sony Acid Studio 8, a Blue Snowball USB microphone, and a pair of Skullcandy Skullcrushers (So I can tweak the basslines to my liking). And to be honest, it's really not that easy. Electronic music still requires a decent amount of music theory, and a little bit of know-how. It also requires a decent amount of dedication. I'm not trying to sound discouraging at all. In fact, I love to hear other independent musicians. So I'd like to close on a positive note. If you put in the time, and effort, you can make something truly amazing.

Ohh thank you for the advice!

Actually, I am willing to invest a bit on equipment and stuff, but uhh..

well the problem is, even if i did have the money to buy all these equipment and software, I would have no way to buy them. Most of the time you will need to buy them online, and that would require a credit card. My parents aren't willing to let me use theirs. (They won't stop me from doing what i want to do, but they won't help me either..)

They say that if i'm going to write songs and all, I should master an instrument first. (I do play guitar, but i doubt i'll be able to 'master' it in just a few months. Those things take time...)

Well, I do think there are places here in Korea that sell equipment at shops, but I have no idea where they are. Trying to find the place itself is going to be a pretty hard task.

As for the software, I don't know if they sell them at all at stores.

That's the reason i'm sticking with Garageband....(For now anyways, heh)

  4. Hello everypony!

Umm, i hope i'm not asking anything stupid, but well, here goes :

I've always been a fond lover of music, and wanted to make some music myself.

After browsing the internet for a few days, I got to know about Computer- made music, and It really seemed enchanting, fairly easy to do, and also fun!

But the problem is, I really don't know where i should start, nobody around me has had any experience with this kind of things.. So I ask you musicians for help!

Please post anything that maybe helpful to a new musician just starting to write songs, such as:

What is the best program to use,

What kind of tutorials are availible, what books or online articles to read, stuff like that.

I have Garageband by the way, and I don't think I will be buying something better than that, or new equipment until i am good enough to use Garageband. (My dad would not have allowed it anyways. )x

I hope other would-be-musicians can get help here also...

See you guys later! ( Hopefully when we meet again as a fellow musician)

  5. Welcome! You seem to have a very busy school life as well.. I literally had 3 hours of sleep today.. XD curse you interwebz with your rainbow - filled temptation ha

I hope we become good friends in the future?

  6. wow. there's a lot more to this than I thought.. I feel kind of stupid for getting a bit hyped by this now

I was going to have a presentation about this at school, but now I don't know if I should..

  7. Welcome to Canterlot :smirk: I'm sort of new here as well.

Korea? Well, I must admit I knew nopony from Korea so far. At last I can say it's past now!

Welcome to Canterlot, enjoy your stay, regret nothing, drink apple juice!

Hmm, I tried the idea out. Canterlot was the last result on first page. I guess it depends on region.

Still, onwards, to glorious victory! ^^

Browsing habbits? I mean, now when you've mentioned it in post below, I remember that aspect. Still, how can google utilize my browsing habits concerning MLP? That will remain a mystery for me... *Royal Canterlot voice* FOREVER!!

Actually, I haven't either. I think I am the only Korean Brony... I felt a bit alone over here.. :-| But not anymore :D

If I tried to bring it up, everybody here would say lol stop wasting your time with that childish cartoon and go study.. ppft they don't understand us~

And yes, apple juice! This calls for a party~!!

  8. I actually have a really funny one..

This was a long time ago when I was still living in California with my parents.

I was very young at the time, I think I may have been in pre-school...

I cannot recall the exact details, but it went a little like this.

Me and my dad went to our nearest KFC for lunch. I was sitting down at a table, playing with some toys and my dad was in line to order.

My dad was Korean, and unfortunately he was not very fluent in English as i was and had some trouble communicating from time to time... He was doing a fairly good job ordering until he needed to order some Honey - Barbeque Chicken.

He said to the cashier "..And I would like to have some 'horny' barbecue." The cashier thinks she heard wrong and she was all 'wait, escuse me sir?".. And my dad XD (Literally doing the 'mr bean face' if you know what i mean) (emphasizing the honey)- said "I said 'HORNY' BARBECUE. i want to have some 'horny' barbecue!!" And the cashiers expression was priceless O.o hahahaha she most have been so freaked out XDD - I remember that my dad took a lot of time ordering, but never really knew what had happened back then. I heard this story from my mother! aahh my dad is a very strict person, but he can be very cute at times lol

  9. Oh, thank you everpony! I feel at home already~ :)

I'm sorry i'm not very active you guys... I don't really have time to get on my computer that much, and I usually use my i-phone to get online, but it's kind of hard to navigate and reply

Maybe there is an app for that? That would help a lot~

  10. hmm.. I think i better get myself a profile picture. I seem rather dull :-|

thank you SilverSwirl! I think I would have to apologize, I wrote this at 1:30 and I am very exhausted. :green:.. I think a good nice sleep would be great! I'm looking forward to reply as soon as I can! :smirk:

  11. About Myself: My names Junwoo and

    I live in korea!

i like to meet new people I guess..

How I found Canterlot.com: First thing that popped up when I googled 'MLP Forum"

How I became a fan of MLP:FiM: I saw a video on youtube (I think it was Know Your Meme : MLP) and curiosity got the better of me...

I watched a few episodes and *poof* here I am, a brony

My favourite main cast pony/s: Fluttershy,Pinkamina Diane Pie
Hello everypony, This here is Juny!

    well,

My name is Junwoo, but everybody I knew in America seemed to have difficulties with pronouncing it right so they just called me "Jun"

You can just refer to me as Juny though~

Oh yeah, for the people who are wondering why I used the phrase 'everybody I knew in America' instead of 'everybody I know in America'

is because that was a loong time ago ( in a galaxy far far away) (wow. i suck at jokes XD just ignore it please~) when i used to live there. I used to live in California and i loved every part about it! At that time I was in 2nd grade. Now i'm living in my home country Korea. Maybe it was because I had my childhood in America, but I never really fit in here. I think that saying our ways of thinking are different would be accurate. I can't even get along with my parents, but I love them! That makes me a sad pony. :sniff:

I like to read books, and wanted to write too, but unfortunately ever since i came back i never really had the time to do anything at all!

(Well, in elementary school i might have been procrastinating just a teeny bit haha but nowadays i really don't have much time at all

go to school at 7:30, study, come back home at 12..)

I also love any kind of music as long as it sounds 'good' to me... classic, electronic, pop, rock, dubstep, it really doesn't matter :)

Video Games are also my thing, but i don't play them much. Kingdom Hearts is my favorite!

After I became a brony, I also began to get interested in all the fan fics, art, music, videos... it really was eye opening.

maybe I could someday write my own fan fic or write my own songs if I get the opportunity.. ( But i would have to say that I am not that good :P )

I would love to be make new friends here! I think that I am fairly easy to get along with so hopefully we won't have any trouble :) )

As you could see above, I try to be cheerful despite the current situation I might be in at that time.

Overall i'm just trying to say that I am a good guy.. ;-)

This is actually my very first time participating in any internet community whatsoever, so be nice! (Not that I doubt anybody here won't be~)

I may not know a lot of things, such as ( I feel stupid for asking this) what's an RP? haha but I can learn fast! ㅇㅅㅇ

Oh, I almost forgot! Favorite Pony : Fluttershy. she's nice. I like nice. Her and Pinkie!! We need to have a little bit of laughter in our lives, I've been feeling that as I grow older..

How I got to know MLP : I saw a video on youtube (I think it was Know Your Meme : MLP) and curiosity got the better of me...

I watched a few episodes and *poof* here I am, a brony

How did I find Canterlot.com :First thing that popped up when I googled 'MLP Forum"

I'm looking forward to being a part of this wonderful community!
