  1. Silver Mint

Silver Mint had frozen when he had heard the voice. He tried to place where the owner of the voice was from based on the accent, the pacing, and the pattern of the words, but it was unlike anything he had come across in his studies on voices and dialects. The Archivist seemed to be focused on the black-hatted unicorn, Arcana... insinuating that she was looking for some source of power in the library... what was she looking for?

The flames returned to their red flames, leaving the group in a stunned silence. Silver Mint looked over at Arcana, a hint of suspicion in his eye. "What does The Archivist mean when it says that you're looking for power?"

    -----

    The Archivist

The Archivist turned its attention to the abandoned unicorn, still waiting in the opening foyer. This was Midnight Read, the one searching for inspiration. She wouldn't need the theatrics required for Arcana to be deterred; she would need something more subtle.

"Help me, please..." The Archivist placed a small foal's voice just out of sight near Midnight Read, leading away from where the other ponies had gathered. "Please help, I'm lost..."

If The Archivist were capable of a smile, it would have. This new batch of ponies was going to be far too easy.

  2. Alright, everypony, I was recently struck by an idea inspired by Geoffry Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales," which is basically a compilation of folk stories from several different people that reflect what each person finds entertaining, and what they notice in the world around them. My idea was to create a compilation work from different writers about some Canterlot folk tales from ponies from different trades and backgrounds.

    What I'm looking for:

Pony narrator: preferably an original character, with their own characteristics.

Type of story: cautionary tale, pony fairy-tale, humorous story or the like.

Originality: If the story is just a ponified version of a well-known story, it sort of kills the impact.

Lore-bound: The story needs to be centralized in the lore of Equestria.

Would anyone be willing to write and submit a short story as told by one of their characters? I'm just looking for interested parties right now. If I get enough, I'll PM you all with details of how the framing will work, and what specifics I may need from each individual story.

  4. Silver Mint

Silver Mint caught up with Stardream and Strife. "I think we need to stick together down here--" he said simply. Reflecting that he had just abandoned Midnight Read back in the round room, he sort of kicked himself for saying what he just did. "It's probably best until we find out exactly where we..." Silver Mint trailed off as something moved in the corner of his eye as they passed between two bookcases. "I just have a feeling we're being watched..."

    -----

    The Archivist

The Archivist watched as Arcana hurried ahead of the others, following the green torches. The Archivist checked the records on Arcana... black fire... that would work quite well, quite well...

A few muttered words, and the torches nearest Arcana switched to an evil-looking black flame, casting a negative glow on everything, her dark pink coat suddenly glowing bright blue in the negative-light. The Archivist chose this moment to address her directly. "Arcana... on the constant search for the knowledge of power... but afraid of her own abilities..." The Archivist paused a moment to let its voice set in. "You seek knowledge as a source of power, but how can you handle the power you desire when you cannot handle the power you currently possess?"

((Sorry about the long wait, every pony. I got swamped at work because we lost one of our cast members, and I had to learn his role at the last minute. Now that the show's open, I'll have more time to give this RP the time it deserves. Again, thanks for your patience.))

  5. Silver Mint

Silver Mint barely had time to process what was going on before several of his fellows were dashing down the corridor of bookshelves with the red-lighted torches. "No! Wait! We should all stick together!" he called out, watching their figures galloping into the darkness. He turned to Midnight Read and the dark blue unicorn who was teleported with them. "You two stay here, I'll try to catch the others and get them back here. If I'm not back in two minutes, come after us, okay?"

Without waiting for an answer, Silver Mint dashed off to try and catch the two who had gone on ahead. "Where are you???"

  6. Silver Mint

The black-hatted unicorn walked around the room, examining the writing engraved on the stone floor. She provided the translation: "I wonder what game they intend for us to play here..." Silver Mint shook his head, he had no idea...

A deep, ominous laugh echoed from all around the large room. Silver Mint spun around himself, trying to identify the source of the laughter, but it seemed to be coming from everywhere at once! "Welcome, subjects, to the Deep Archives" said a deep voice, that resonated down to Silver Mint's teeth. "I do hope you'll be able to find all that you're looking for down here, but... understand that knowledge doesn't come free... I expect something from each of you in order to get the information you desire... Let me start you off down the correct path..."

There was a soft whoosh! as a line of torches changed color from green to red... the line extended off into the darkness.

"Show The Archivist that you're worthy of this knowledge, and I may find it in my grasp to bestow it upon you..."

The voice echoed away into silence, leaving Silver Mint lost in shocked silence.

  7. Silver Mint

Silver Mint opened his eyes, and for a brief moment wondered if he had done so. It was so dark, he couldn't see his hoof in front of his face. He groaned as he picked himself up. A wave of nausea rolled over him as the disorienting effects of the teleportation spell began to wear off. He wondered where he was-- where the others were. He perked his ears for the sound of any pony else in the area.

''...that was NUTS!'' called out a voice in the darkness.

"Yes, it was... who's there?" asked Silver Mint, wishing desperately for some light.

As if on cue, torches lit up the area in an unnatural green light. The emerald-flamed torches mounted on the ends of innumerable, ancient bookshelves made out of stone, and filled with musty old tomes. There were no signs of any windows or doors, and the place had the feeling of being underground. The air was almost oppressively dense and still. Dust seemed to be suspended unnaturally still in the cool, still air, and the combined smells of dry dust and burning torch-oil was slightly offensive to Silver Mint. Once his eyes had adjusted to the green light, he looked around for the others, they were all nearby. They were all in the center of a large, bare-stone circle from which the bookshelves extended like the spokes of a wheel. Along the perimeter of the circle was a long inscription, written in the Old Equestrian language that the black-hatted unicorn had translated earlier. Here was hoping that she was alright... and willing to do some further translation...

He noticed his purple-coated unicorn friend nearby and made his way over to her to see if she needed help. "Are you alright, miss..." he paused, realizing he had never asked for her name...

  8. Hello from the muggy States! I'm glad to see we have other late night / early morning browsers on the forums! I'm sure it's early-afternoon for you at the time of the this post, but in any case, welcome to the Herd!

'Seekers of knowledge, do you know what you truly seek?' Those words sent a shiver down Silver Mint's back. He knew that he was seeking knowledge, but the words seemed to make his blood run cold... 'Those who would discover this knowledge may find more than they have wanted.' The room seemed to darken around them eerily, or was the page gleaming brighter? A cloud must have passed over the sun... yeah, that must be it, darkening this room filled with natural, stained-glass light... 'Come find the secrets of Equestria...'

Silver Mint's heart sank. What was this cryptic message? He felt the sudden urge to crumple up the parchment and dispose of it, but the hoof he had placed on it seemed glued to the page. Whatever this message was, there had to be some sort of magic attached to it, even as an Earth Pony, Silver Mint knew what magic's effects felt like, even if he had no control over any himself. He shook his head, he was probably letting his dramatic spirit influence his actions...

"It sounds almost like a challenge," the black-hatted unicorn said, "But I haven't a clue what it means..."

Silver Mint opened his mouth to speak, but was blinded by a burst of sudden, bright light from above. He shielded his eyes with his hoof and looked up at the library's great skylight. The eyes of Celestia and Luna had both opened, streaming light onto the ponies around the parchment... but this was too bright to be natural sunlight-- Silver Mint wanted to get up and run, but something... either fear or magic... kept him from moving. A voice flew through the air; gentle, but perfectly clear: "Discover what you came here for."

Silver Mint felt himself rise slightly off the floor. He heard shouts of surprise, was it him, or the others caught in the magical light?

There was the tell-tale hiss-snap! of a teleportation spell, and Silver Mint was no longer in the Canterlot Library.

  10. From what I understand, applications are assessed starting with the ones at the back of the forum (the ones that have gone longest without a reply.) Usually, no comments means that no one can find any major fault with the application and will allow it to move on. The RP Helpstaff will usually only comment after the application has been [final]-ized, signalling that the app is ready for review.

So right now, you're all set. Just be patient, as there are a lot of Shining Armour and Princess Cadence applications the RP staff have to sort through, finding the best-qualified app to send into the RP realm. That, in addition to their normal duties, means there might be a small delay in the application approval process.

As for comments and critiques, I can say that I definitely like this character, the only note I would give would be in regards to the origin of his cutie mark. One of the most common questions asked is when precisely did the cutie mark appear (as sometimes the moment it happens could be very significant) and what does it symbolize to Mythos? Is he proud of it? What did his parents and Sunny think of it? ...but of course, I'm not a part of the RP Helpstaff, so I may be out of line in asking these questions... they're just suggestions!

  11. Silver Mint

Sitting down at a large empty table, Silver Mint spread the sheet of red parchment out and smoothed it out. It must have been a trick of the light-- probably caused by the colored light streaming in from the stained skylight above-- but the words seemed to glisten as his eyes moved over them, seemed to quiver in excitement. Silver Mint rubbed his eyes. He was probably still tired from reading so much over the last few days. The words on the parchment, black on red, still sprawled over the page, almost begging to be deciphered.

Silver Mint made sure to keep a hoof on the parchment... he wasn't sure why, but he felt oddly possessive of it. "Here we are, miss." He said to the black-hatted pegasus. "Do you recognize this language? Can you tell us what this says?"

  12. Regardless of who is bullying you, or what your prior history with that person is; no one has any right to try and make you feel less about yourself. I understand the desire for respect and the public's perception of manliness at the age of 15, but I think you have to realize that no one is going to respect you until you respect yourself.

Yes. I know that it's a cheesy, and cliched answer, but all cliches have an element of truth behind them, and I think that's something you need to recognize.

Also, as for this bully being your ex-girlfriend and her having a difficult home-life; it's one thing to understand and empathize with the motives behind someone's actions. That does not mean you have to tolerate those actions. Depending on the circumstances of the break-up (which I don't know,) she may be feeling poorly about the situation and looking for something at which to direct her anger, and by unfortunate happenstance, that target is you. Now, you can garner respect by allowing her to be angry, but not becoming riled yourself; this will demonstrate to everyone that you are capable of keeping a calm head in the face of duress, and that it will take more than someone being upset with you to make you upset.

You'll just have to trust me and acknowledge that though I may not be your age anymore, I still know a thing or two about being that age. We all go through the same stuff, more or less, while growing up and while it's easy to dismiss your elders as not knowing what they're talking about, it's the more difficult, but more mature option to take heed of our advice, particularly after you've asked for it. So the best advice I can give is this: Allow yourself and your ex to be angry, but if things come to a head, do not act out based on that anger, control your temper, even if she does not. In any given situation, this will make you the victor, as you not only controlled your own emotions, you did not allow someone else's emotions to goad you into losing your temper.

    TL;DR? Here's the short version:

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent"

  13. Well, obviously you require different color dyes/inks to color your hair.

I work in a theater and own my own personal airbrush kit. Now, with airbrush, you can do more than just paint your face, if you style your hair first, you can airbrush your hair into the different colors temporarily. This method is water-resistant, but will come out with a single shampooing. However, this might not be feasible for the average brony, as the airbrush itself (even without the inks) can cost more than $250. If you're still interested, though, I have a link to where I ordered my airbrush HERE.

Something a little more difficult, but that would yield the same results, is if you visited a halloween store or costume shop. They have numerous temporary hair dyes that come with comb-shaped applicators which are perfect for keeping the individual colors separated, and the streaks bright and colorful. However, the downside to this is that these dyes are one-use only and will come out as soon as your hair gets wet.

So, if you're looking for something a bit more permanent, you'd have to go with seven expensive permanent highlighting kits (each color would cost about $25, making the total purchase about $175-$200) and go through the process of dying your hair streak by streak. Each dye would take about a half-hour to complete, making this a more-than three hour process for permanent results. I'd highly recommend you bring a friend along for this process, as dying straight, side-by-side streaks with minimal blending/overlap is a very difficult process, and almost impossible to do by yourself.

Anyway, those are my suggestions! I hope this has helped!

  14. Hmm, well first, I think this may belong more in the "Chit Chat" forum as opposed to "Brony Chatter" (as this isn't exactly MLP related)

As to being made fun of, I've found that people will only make fun of you if you give them a reaction that they're looking for. If they're looking to embarrass you or make you feel ashamed about who you are, don't give it to them. Example, if they're teasing you about being a brony, just shrug your shoulders like you don't give a buck and be on your way.
