Judging by Applejack’s brief, unsatisfying answer, Princess Cadence surmised that the apple mare would probably not want to discuss her romantic life further. Well, time to get that kiss thing over with now, as Cadence got AJ’s hint to initiate the deed. With a smile on her face, the pink alicorn moved in with her lips, giving the earth pony’s muzzle an all too brief peck. Although short, Cadence’s kiss was filled with an extraordinary amount of her light magic in one bite-sized package. Typically, ponies on the receiving end (typically Shining Armor) would feel something akin to an electrical jolt running through their entire body, except far more pleasurable.

Princess Cadence winked knowingly as she pulled backwards, putting her ten bits onto the counter. Once Applejack retrieved the two bushels of Cortland apples for Cadence, the alicorn would be back on her journey again to Twilight’s home. "Have a good day, Applejack. Feel free to write me if you ever need advice about love!" It never hurt to make a friendly offer like that to a friend, Cadence reasoned as she left the scene.

After chuckling at the suggestion that Princess Cadence should get to producing a foal of her own, Applejack’s kissing comments made the alicorn blush quite hard. “Uhhh wait,” she confusedly asked; “This is a kissing booth too?” Cadence took a quick peek around her, taking good notice of the rather long line still forming up from behind. “Huh, so that explains why everypony in town’s over here for this sale.”

And then something in that romantic mind of Cadence’s clicked, as if connecting the dots. “You know,” the smirking princess stepped forward and let her face come close to Applejack’s; “It looks like a lot of ponies here fancy you if they’re lining up like that. It shouldn’t be hard for you to, hehe, find a special someone to start a family with.”

  3. 2qJgRGm.png

“Oh,” Princess Cadence bashfully covered her mouth; “It’s not that cold if you’re living around the Crystal Spire... although I do suppose winter is coming very soon now. Hopefully it won’t be a long one for the Empire; from what I’ve heard from my subjects, some winters can get rather ehhhh, nasty.” The alicorn princess quickly brushed that unpleasant subject matter aside and gave the apple mare a thankful smile; “I’d very much like a second bushel Applejack. You’d be surprised how big of an appetite a dashing knight can build up after a hard day's work.” Cadence held back a giggle, trying to block out memories of a few less-than-glamorous mealtime experiences.

  4. 2qJgRGm.png

Princess Cadence laughed off the second of Applejack’s questions; “Hehehe, I suppose it would seem that way, but I actually had no idea Princess Celestia was going to be here in Ponyville.” There was a twinge of embarrassment in the alicorn's voice, for she didn't think Applejack needed to know that Celestia mainly came to keep an eye on Prince Blueblood. Anywho, Cadence cheerfully continued on; “Things are very good up in the Crystal Empire, by the way. We're just about ready in fact for the crystal berry harvest; everypony's looking forward to it! So Applejack, what sort of apples would you recommend I get?”

  5. 2qJgRGm.png

Princess Cadence’s chit-chat came to an end when she saw that the customer in front of her had completed their purchase. It was now the alicorn’s turn to buy apples from Applejack. Having paid no attention at all to the going-ons outside her conversation, Cadence didn’t know yet about the kissing booth aspect of this sale. Oblivious, she trotted to the booth and happily greeted another one of her friends; “Hello Applejack! So this is the Sweet Apple Acres I’ve heard so many good things about.”

  6. 2qJgRGm.png

".....Actually, I've been trying to get a pair of Crystal Empire sheep! They are so cute and colorful, but they are rather rare. The Empire Petting Zoo is nervous about letting them go. But, if we get more ponies interested, we might be able to spread the breed across Equestria too!"

After Princess Cadence shared in Fluttershy’s joke with a good-natured laugh, the kind pegasus mentioned that she was trying to bring a couple of crystal ewes down into Equestria. The alicorn had a good guess why the Empire Petting Zoo would not easily give out their sheep. Most likely, they weren’t sure if crystal ewes could successfully acclimate to a southerly climate. Or could tolerate the train ride to Ponyville. Perhaps a study of one pair could be arranged, with Fluttershy monitoring it. “I’ll talk things over with the Petting Zoo once I return to the Crystal Empire,” Cadence affirmed; “I’m sure I could figure out an agreement that’ll convince them to send you a pair of ewes.”

".....Oh, you're welcome to visit too, Prin... Cadence! I mean, if you're not busy that is."

“Well,” Princess Cadence briefly glanced to her side; “I suppose I am rather busy running an Empire.” The alicorn awkwardly chuckled, knowing that if she had all the time in the world, she would visit Fluttershy’s cottage to see the animals in a heartbeat. After a moment or two, the pink pony spoke up again; “But then again... I do have the day off from my royal duties. Maybe I could pay the animals a visit after I buy these apples...” A mischievous smile creeped its way onto Cadence’s face.

  7. 2qJgRGm.png

"I'm sure Twilight will be more than glad to see you! I know she'd make time for you. Well, after you get your apples, I mean."

What in the world was Princess Cadence worrying over her ability to bond with Twilight for? “You’re right Fluttershy,” the alicorn felt relieved to say; “If anypony knows how to lure my sister-in-law away from her meticulous schedules, it’s me!” Plenty of experience in foalsitting Twily when she was only a little filly gave Cadence special insight into the inner workings of the scholarly pony’s mind shared by only a tiny few.

Perhaps it was seeing Fluttershy and the painter talk about a fruit bat, but the pink princess now desired to inquire a little into how the pegasus’s life was doing; “Your animals are doing fine as ever Fluttershy?” Not particularly deep subject matter, but it’d keep everypony occupied with the pleasurable distraction of conversation while they all waited in line for apples.

  8. 2qJgRGm.png

Mercifully, Princess Celestia indicated her willingness to leave her conversation with Princess Cadence on a mundane note. Politely nodding at her auntie’s tone of encouragement, the pink princess could now cast her full attention on her friend Fluttershy. Once Celestia explained why she came to Sweet Apple Acres, Cadence happily spoke up with her own mini-tale; “And I actually came by Ponyville to give Twilight a surprise visit. But when I flew over the farm in my chariot, I noticed all these ponies lining uphere. So of course I had to check it out! I hope Twilight isn’t too busy when I drop by.....” Cadence slightly trailed off at the end, knowing that dropping by Twily’s place unannounced ran the risk of interrupting something important.

"I have seen the crystal train, it seems rather robust and fast, is it that much more expensive to run?"

“That’s not what I-” Princess Cadence’s awkward smile turned into a frustrated sigh; “And that’s my personal royal train! It’s not intended to be used for-” Catching herself unnecessarily sounding like part of the upper crust, the pink alicorn covered her mouth in a rush; “That is to say, that has nothing to do with why merchants charge more when selling goods in the Empire. Oh,” Cadence raised her head up to save some face; “I’m glad you approve of the Crystal Train, Princess Celestia. The locomotive designers back in the Empire are really proud of it.”

"I didn't say that. You didn't hear it from me."

"Princess Cadence, I must agree with Fluttershy and Applejack. I am certain that Twilight is not pregnant. Also, I'm fairly certain that you would be one of the first to find out, along with her best friends, since her brother is your husband."

Gosh, this was all just too much to handle! Oh, why did Prince Blueblood kept his mouth open and make Cadence look even more of a fool? And with Auntie and two of her friends around to boot? So much for earning praise from her beloved mentor; now Cadence found her humiliating outburst destined for inclusion in Celestia’s dinnertime stories for the next two weeks, or so the alicorn imagined. And who knows what Twilight would do knowing about her sister-in-law’s antics?

Utterly defeated, the Crystal Princess gave off a long sigh; “I suppose all of you are right. I sounded pretty ridiculous, didn’t I?” There was no use turning Blueblood into a scapegoat; he technically did not actually make any specific claims about the pregnancy matter, even if he neglected to correct anything for Cadence. With the brief apology finished, the pink princess weakly greeted the new pegasus on the scene; “Hello there, Fluttershy.”

"My dear niece, if the Crystal Empire is in such dire straights that you are unable to import produce, please let me know. Canterlot is always willing to provide assistance."

The pink alicorn blushed hearing her Auntie Celestia’s wording of the situation. “Ehh, it’s nothing like that at all!” The embarrassed Crystal Princess tried explaining, her upper teeth sticking out at a rushed attempt at an assuring smile; “Goods can get to the Crystal Empire just fine! They just… tend to be a bit more expensive, that’s all.” That sounded a bit undignified, didn’t it?

"Yep! I sure am! I'm actually hopin' ta see Manehattan soon, I'm gonna try and find the best vantage point ta paint the big statue in the harbor... and after that I'm gonna sample every slice o' pizza from every pizza place there! I keep hearin' ponies say Manehattan is like the Pizza capital of Equestria and I'm gonna see if it's true!"

Big statue huh? Presteza must mean the Statue of Friendship; Princess Celestia explained to Cadence once how she had been around to see Lady Friendship in her original dull copper color, before oxidation kicked in and turned the statue more greenish. As for the pizza claim; “I’ve been to Manehattan a few times myself. They really make good pizza there, so I’m sure you’ll be in heaven when you visit the city.” Cadence would have chatted more with the artist mare, but other ponies quickly clamored for the princess’s attention.

"Wonderfully, Princess Cadence. Thank you for giving me such good advice... I had learned about a new vocal arts program that was picking up steam in the school underground just a week before, and directed him towards it... I checked in on him after about two months with only a few minor incidents. It turned out that he was the lead singer for an on-campus musical group, and he was prancing about with a new cutie mark on his flank... He's happier than I've ever seen him, Princess, and I've you to thank for it."

It sounded like taking all those hours to write Memory Lane’s response proved worth it! As the so-called Princess of Love, Cadence sincerely believed that deep down, every pony wished to find a fulfilling way to give back to their fellow equines, and that apparent troublemakers simply hadn’t found an outlet for this want. Once again, Cadence’s beliefs didn’t let her down; “So he’s a musician now? That’s great news!!! You know, I was the lead singer for the school choir when I was his age! Next time I visit Canterlot, maybe I can find time to drop by to hear him perform.” Needless to say, Cadence also believed the world could always use more music.

"Cadence! You're turning into an Aunt!"

“Huh?” Princess Cadence at first had no idea what Princess Blueblood meant. Ponies just can’t turn into aunts; they first need a sibling to conceive or adopt a child. The pink princess lacked blood siblings to speak of, so that could only mean…

    .....

    Oh gosh. Why hasn’t she told Cadence yet??? Abandoning her inner monologue for one unfortunate moment, the stunned alicorn gasped in the prince's face for all at the Orchard to hear;

    “YOU MEAN TWILIGHT IS PREGNANT???”

That was funny, one of the fan letters for Princess Cadence got mixed in with the pile of Dear Cady submissions. Like usual, she only needed a quick glance at all the decorative hearts scattered about the page to inform her that a little filly wrote this. Cadence could never say no to children; with great dispatch, she wrote a reply at once (that didn't get published in the papers):

    Dear Pinchy,

Thank you for writing me! To clear things up, I came from Equestria just like you, and I live right now in an actual crystal palace shooting up tall into the sky. It is tough being a princess of both Equestria and the Crystal Empire, but it’s worth it to make the lives of everypony as happy as possible.

I felt really scared when Prince Armor threw me off that balcony, because I knew if I did not catch the falling Crystal Heart before the evil King Sombra did, darkness would have won that day. It is something I never want to do again, and it’s definitely not something a little filly like you should do, unless you want to hurt yourself badly.

As for the Crystal Empire, it is really a magical place. You should come during the Crystal Faire, there are all sorts of fun games and activities there that you will enjoy. At the end, you can see how the crystal ponies rejuvenate the Crystal Heart with light and love. Words cannot describe this amazing sight. You’ll have to see it for yourself.

The next time I visit Ponyville, be sure to say hello to me Pinchy!

    Love,

    Princess Cadence <3

Something about a letter from “A Bell in Trottingham” rang a few bells for the pink princess. That hoofwriting looked a lot like the one used by that one guest teacher from Celestia’s School, Duchess Silver Belle (her son studied at the school too back when Cadence was enrolled). Belle came from one of the old families like Prince Blueblood did, and her ancestors had lived in Trottingham for generations (another dead giveaway to the writer’s identity). In more recent times, Princess Cadence and the Duchess had met each other at royal functions every now and then, but the alicorn’s knowledge of the other noble’s family life was quite hazy aside that she also had a daughter.

When reading that one bit about sneezing-induced magic accidents, Cadence recalled that Allergic Artist writer who also had that same condition. Come to think of it, the Allergic Artist moved around a lot too. Just maybe the artist and the daughter were one and the same?

    Dear A Bell in Trottingham:

As long as you and your daughter are on speaking terms, she will always appreciate you travelling to visit her. Just don’t try to use such occasions to “fix” her, as it were. She is an adult now, and she’s got her own unique path to follow. If this means that she’ll never have the magic talent that you have, then so be it. Once you become comfortable with this face, you just may find yourself having an easier time connecting with your daughter.

Concerning your husband, I of all ponies know what you are going through. I too wish my husband was home more often, but his duties as a captain of the Royal Guard and prince of the Crystal Empire make the time we share together fleeting and precious. I find though that when I enjoy the company of my friends and other ponies, I feel less lonely whenever Shining’s away. So get out of the house and have some fun! Maybe there's someplace in your town that you have never visited before? Do things to spice up your life with excitement!

    Love,

    Cady <3

"Not quite. You see it was my gentle push that lead Prince Blueblood to attend this, and I wished to keep an eye on him. The apples and helping the Apple Family's farm is a pleasant perk to being here today. Of course, I hear the Apple family is having a sale on their produce and they have some of the finest apples in Equestria according to Princess Twilight Sparkle. The Canterlot Castle chefs are sure to appreciate the fresh produce."

Princess Cadence didn’t wish to question her Auntie, but the alicorn of love never quite understood Celestia’s fixation on Prince Blueblood. Why should a majestic ruler like Auntie spend her valuable time looking after a grown stallion? Was Celestria really that desperate to personally nurture somepony now that Twilight was Equestria’s newest princess?

Cadence’s questions would wait another time. Playing along with Auntie’s ruse, the pink princess commented as such; “And I’m sure the Crystal Palace chefs would love to get their hooves on fresh Ponyville apples too. It’s quite expensive getting produce shipped that far up north.” That settled it; Princess Cadence would stay and purchase apples too!

"Well, Princess when I'm around long enough for sompony ta give me somethin' it's usually somethin' like chocolate or food er somethin'... wait a sec chocolate is food... anyway, yeah yer advice was a great help!"

A giggle escaped from Princess Cadence, glad to hear that everything was working out for the "Allergic Artist". “Just curious,” the alicorn questioned out of curiosity; “But you’re still travelling around a lot these days, are you?” Presteza did mention something about that in the letter she wrote to the “Dear Cady” column.

Strangely enough, a REA lieutenant named Silverheart came by to offer the usual greetings that royal guards always provided to the princesses. That itself wouldn't have been odd save for the fact that Pressy and the female officer knew each other. As the two ponies got sidetracked talking to each other, Cadence left them be.

"Good afternoon, Princess Cadence. My name is Memory Lane, but I think you would better know me as 'Record Books'."

Well this was a curious coincidence; Princess Cadence did indeed remember that letter she got from “Record Books”. Funny how two of the ponies who wrote to that advice column were right here in line. “A pleasure to meet you in person, Memory Lane,” Cadence offered with a graceful smile that matched the stallion’s; “How did that situation with the student work out?” Like with Presteza, the alicorn wanted to know how meaningful her advice was.

"Greetings, cousin. Back from the Empire? Have you heard that... I was coming?"

Thankfully, Blueblood sounded like he wasn’t here to be an annoyance; “I came down from the Empire; I can’t say I knew you’d be here though, Blueblood.” Cadence resolved to be friendly towards the unicorn prince, but her voice betrayed a slight hint of awkwardness.....

  13. 2qJgRGm.png

"Princess Cadence, it is so nice to see you again. Are you here to get some apples as well?"

No way; Auntie was here too! “Princess Celestia!” Princess Cadence happily acknowledged, cantering on over to the serene alicorn; “Actually… I was dropping by Ponyville to visit Twilight Sparkle. I just happened to notice a huge line here, so I had my chariot land so I could see what the fuss was all about.” And apparently, the fuss involved apples in some fashion. “Are you here for the apples too, Celestia?”

"P-Princess Cadence! This is so cool! I actually get ta see ya in person! y-ya might no' remember me but I'm Presteza! Y'know, the uh... The... Allergic ... Artist... I can't believe this! If Princess Luna and Princess Twilight show up, this'll be the happiest day o' my life!"

Cadence didn’t recognize the name Presteza, but after a number of seconds, she remembered all about the “Allergic Artist”. Some time ago, the Allergic Artist wrote to the Crystal Princess concerning how to tell stallions that she could not accept flowers as gifts. Cadance published her response in her Dear Cady advice column, she and the artist made official arrangements via writing for a painting session in about… a few weeks from now, as a matter of fact!

It proved rather interesting for the pink alicorn to accidently stumble upon her future artist earlier than expected. This Presteza mare sure seem very lively indeed; a far cry from the sort of prim and proper professionals most ponies think of when they envision court artisans. Curious to learn more about this mare, and also to see how effective her advice really was, Princess Cadence started out with a question; “Ah, I remember you Presteza, or should I say, Allergic Artist. What are the gentlecolts giving you for gifts these days?”

Oh... it looked like Blueblood is here too, just in front of Auntie Celestia. No good hardly ever came of interacting with him, so Princess Cadence wouldn't bother saying anything unless he provided a polite greeting or something along that line......

More letters kept pouring in after Princess Cadence’s first responses were published all over in the Crystal Empire and Equestrian newspapers. One that she thought worth responding to was from a mare with an… unusual allergy problem. While the solution to the artist’s dilemma was simple enough relatively speaking, Cadence still felt bad for the pony who wasn’t able to enjoy the loveliness of flowers without causing magic problems.

As it looked like the writer of the letter didn’t come with something that sounded like a pseudonym, the princess gave herself the liberty of choosing an appropriate one for her, ensuring the artist’s anonymity remained:

    Dear Allergic Artist:

I am sorry to hear about your allergy to pollen. Suffice it to say, you will not need a sign to let everypony else know not to give you flowers. All you have to do is let stallions know that due to your condition, you are unable to accept flowers as gifts. Those ponies that honor your requests have your best interests at heart; those who do not will require a lesson in being considerate to others.

Instead of flowers, ask stallions to offer you with things like chocolates or cards; like flowers, they are cheap to purchase, but it is always the thought behind them that matters most of all (personally, I love snacking on chocolate every now and then). If stallions really want to, you can also encourage them to give you artificial flowers; without pollen, you should be able to accept these gifts without sneezing.

Just remember though that communication is the key. Not being afraid to explain your wishes to potential suitors will make relationships far easier in the long run… and friendships too for that matter.

    Love,

    Cady <3

PS: All requests to use me as a model for a work of art need to be first filed through the Household Office in the Crystal Palace. This ensures that a proper time and place for a session can be arranged without complication.

    --------

The next letter Princess Cadence responded to concerned a more grave matter. Expulsion from a school is something that should never be taken lightly, and the alicorn knew that she'd have to labor carefully this time to provide advice that didn't make things worse. After hours of laboring over a response, Cadence felt she had something that was worth giving to Mr. Record Books:

    Dear Record Books:

I’ve dealt with my fair share of problematic cases troublemaking children back in my foalsitter days. As much as I have been tempted to at times to lash out and yell at the habitual delinquents I’ve looked after, I knew that giving in to such negative emotions would, in the end, do nothing but make the child further resentful. As long as you don’t give in to frustration, it will be possible for you to salvage this situation.

Now then, it is quite obvious that there is something lacking in White Noise’s life. Maybe there is something about studying at Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns that makes him feel dissatisfied. Maybe he have a craving for attention that causes him to act out. If neither you or the colt’s friends are able to figure out the reason for his behavior, you should seriously consider having him undergo counseling. Sometimes, there are matters that are best addressed by professionals, especially for students at risk of expulsion.

Should counseling not work or is otherwise not an option, perhaps what you will need to do is to get White Noise engaged in more activities outside of his studies. As the old saying goes, idle hooves are Discord’s playthings, and ponies busy with productive activities won’t have the time for committing mischief. In fact, keeping troublemakers occupied with activities they found fun was a fast way for me to establish bonds with even the worst behaved kids I foalsat back in the day.

Whatever happens, I wish the best for both you and White Noise.

    Love,

    Cady <3

"What? Oh please, no one's gonna really care if you get a kiss from me. If anything, it can be my thanks for you being such a sweet stallion to mah friend. Anypony who's liked by my friends, I can be friends with them too."

Flash Sentry’s inability to figure out how to respond to Applejack’s lunge cost him dearly. The stallion dared not move an inch as the apple mare’s lips pressed on his frozen muzzle. Flash couldn’t even bring it upon himself to feel any pleasure, too concerned he was about potentially offending this secret admirer of his. The only good thing about the absurdly poor performance on Flash’s part was the fact that AJ wasn’t a mare he planned on dating anytime soon. Thank Celestia for that… although the fact remained that he blew a perfectly good opportunity to kiss a pretty looking mare.

"Well, that was... neat. Hope you enjoy them apples. They's good eatin'!"

    "Have a good'n, Flash!"

But maybe this was all for the best though; Flash Sentry just needed to think positive thoughts, and not dwell on any goof-ups. The guard woke up today not thinking a secret admirer desired him, and he could go to sleep with the knowledge that he didn’t lose something truly tremendous. And so, a dorky embarrassed smile appeared on Flash’s face while he waved goodbye to the two apple girls; “Thank you, you two! Have a nice day!”

That would have been the end of Flash Sentry’s tale for the day, had he not encountered another famous pony. But as his thoughts turned towards anticipating how Radiant Steel would react to receiving the small bag of apples in his saddlebag-

“Flash Sentry! So nice to see you again,” rang out an all-too familiar voice.

    "P-P... Princess Cadence!"

    2qJgRGm.png

What was supposed to be a surprise trip to meet Princess Cadence’s sister-in-law took a turn for the interesting when a touched-down royal chariot was spotted on the outskirts of town near Sweet Apple Acres. Observing from her own overhead chariot, Cadence spied a huge line forming outside the orchard. Filled with curiosity, the pink princess ordered her pilots to land a distance away from the crowd so as to avoid creating commotion.

Princess Cadence arrived just in time to see Flash Sentry depart the scene. Cady did not know Flash all that well save that he was relatively new, got transferred back to Canterlot recently, and may have been crushed on by Twilight Sparkle due to a strange set of bizarre circumstances. The alicorn wouldn’t have minded a polite conversation with Flash, but she guessed by his armor that he was on-duty, and didn’t have much time to waste. Therefore, Cadence kept things sort; “What’s with the big line… and is that Celestia and Blueblood I see?”

“Yes ma’am,” the guard replied, giving Princess Cadence a salute; “Some sort of sale’s going on. Five bits for a single bushel. Now if you excuse me, I got to return back to Canterlot before I’m missed.”

“Farewelll Private Sentry. May you enjoy the rest of the day.” With those words, Flash Sentry started the trip back to the train station. Cadence meanwhile kept looking at the line to the apple stand, wondering if she should join in with the others.....

    *Exit Flash Sentry*
