If Party of One doesn't make it out of this round, I'm cancelling the poll and uploading a virus. Just sayin.

Semis A complete. Diagnosis: People love Sonic Rainbooms. Rainbow Dash FTW.

Soon, we can elect a champion. Soon, My Little Ponies.
Pick up to two favorites. You may change your votes as many times as you wish, but polling will close 5 days after this posting, after which your votes are all locked in.

But the story faded out with Twilight reading it. So one would assume that what the watcher is told about the story is exactly what Twilight is also reading at that moment.
Ahh. Nice catch.
-
The official Canterlot tiering seems to be a bit different than mine, but I always thought of tiers like this:
1. Mane Six
2. Recurring support characters (Spike, Celestia, CMC).
3. Creatures with Take-Two canon names that speak lines (except animals, which needn't speak).
4. Background creatures (unnamed, or non-speaking).
5. Fanmade creatures.
Tiers 1 and 2 could almost be wrapped together.
-
Now, that should be expected of the other five ponies, however, Twilight Sparkle has read about the legend and should have already known that Nightmare Moon/Princess Luna was Princess Celestia's sister.
Devil's advocate: Maybe it wasn't a recorded fact?
-
6. An overarching plot. You can still have single episode plots, but one overarching plot that creates conflict.
This was actually Faust's original idea/concept. Hasbro didn't like it, so it's not happening. It doesn't make for a good kids show, because kids aren't going to necessarily be consistent and committed to sitting down and watching ponies at a certain hour of the day. Not to mention remembering what happened in the previous episodes.
I believe I'd read as much as well, but just today I was sifting through Faust's DA for dancing Milky Way icons and she commented that she could have put in more continuity, but opted for more slice of life episodes instead. I wish I could say what the date was on that, but it was sometime between now and may (I'm thinking it was a more recent comment).

Funny, this vote generated far fewer votes, but spurred much more discussion.
So a majority agrees on Owl's Well being the worst. Well, if anything it was a missed opportunity. I would like to have seen the conclusion be left open, with conflict remaining between Spike and Owloicious. It leaves the door open for a lot of humorous conflict down the road, and contrasts well with the shoe's usual saccharine conclusions.

Im not sure if you mentioned this in another thread, but how did you go about seeding them?
http://www.canterlot.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2021&p=25724#p25766
Unfortunately, beyond that, I didnt think the through to the second round. In retrospect I might have swapped Appleoosa and Manehattan.

Well, semis should be the most popular 12 episodes. Could you honestly rank Bridle Gossip and Sonic Rainboom below 12? I do think Rainboom is overrated, but I think it gets a place in the top 12. This section turned out sorta weak, IMO. Semifinals B will be brutal and heart-rending.

THIS THREAD IS FOR SPORTS. GET YO' RACEDRIVIN' UP OUTTA HURR.

This is where the voting gets difficult! CM Chronicles was an easy call (my second favorite episode!), but I got stuck between Green Isn't Your Color and Bridle Gossip. I may yet change my mind on this one.
Edit: Eeyup. Changed my mind.

agreed. I tried to think of a way for humans to fit in, then it didn't work ._.
at all.
whatsoever.
Pinkie pie has a nightmare where everyone is brown and peach colored, and has weird fingers and walks around on their rear hooves. She wakes up in a cold sweat.

I read they they often just drag and drop in background characters somewhat randomly. In large crowd scenes, you can see a lot of duplication. I suspect that they do this because it's easier to animate a small group and then copy-paste it a few times to make it a crowd.
And even then, this show has more animated crowds than just about any cartoon I've ever watched.
-
I realize though that since we are voting on episodes based on the episode's story, development and entertainment value (at least I think we are, right?), I cannot justify voting this episode as being bad solely on my dislike of Gilda making Fluttershy cry.
You can vote an episode down for any reason you like.
Gilda's easy to hate, which makes her a great villain. I feel the same way about the Great and Powerful Trixie.
-
The 20% cooler wording was purely style. If you want to know where to place your vote, vote for your least favorite, irrespective of any cooler percentage value it may or may not warrant.

Pinkie Keen: I'm as staunchly atheist as they come, but I didn't have a problem with Pinkie Keen's message. Partly because it fits well in a world where there ARE magic and the ARE gods, so it makes sense internally. Also because literally speaking, faith is valuable. It needn't be faith in a god or higher power. The complexity and controversy of this episode's message is its greatest strength. "Explode twice" and canon Derpy was just gravy
A Bird in the Hoof: I didn't like Philomena. It just irritated me. He's incredibly cool looking in his rebirth form though.
Show Stoppers: Its timing was its only problem. That hardly warrants it being listed among the worst. In retrospect, most people like it.
The episode I think most deserved to be here beyond Owl's Well is Over a Barrel. Starting with that weird horse-drawn train, and moving into another White Guilt story (although handled better than most, I must confess), and introducing a setting which felt out of place... Bleh. But those buffalo are really cool looking.
-
What's A Bird In the Hoof doing here though?
That's one of my favorite episodes.
It didn't get enough votes in the best episode polling.
Admittedly, this is a rather crappy way to determine "worst episode." The methodology is terribly broken, and a polarizing episode wouldn't find its way down here, even if it might get a plurality of "worst" votes simply because it managed a plurality of "best" votes as well. Plurality is kinda a crappy way to set up a voting system, but a pairwise comparison of all episodes would take 312 polls (sum of all unique 2 episode pairings = 25+24+23...+3+2+1 = 312).
I figured we already had a polling bracket set up tht gives us some information, so we might as well use that to produce another poll.
I suspect there would be little patience for a full "worst episode" bracket.

Round 1 is complete! I've updated the bracket, so those of you who like to study such things can pore over it and try to make predictions. On to the semifina-- Wait what's this?
Oh, apparently the bracket is tired and needs a couple days to rest.
Well, that's tough, I'm paying it to work! --
Huh?
Well my lawyer is telling me that this is a unionized bracket, and its entitled to a couple days off.
What would Baron Spike do? Eeyup, I'm hiring a scab!
It's the intermission poll! Which episode is your LEAST favorite?

Augh, some of my most beloved episodes are here! Show Stoppers! Pinkie Keen! Griffon the Brush Off! It's a damn travesty, and this poll breaks my heart and the heart of many others out there as well. But it must be done. We need to show that dirty loser episode what's what, yeah?
Easy vote for me: Owl's Well That Ends Well. I rewatched it, and it's not as terrible as I remember it being, but it's still not up to the standard of the series, IMO.
-
Some episodes you can't help but like. Others, you love, but why can't the be more like their sisters? This is the vote to determine which episode is most in need of 20% coolerness.
Maybe your lest favorite episode isn't here? Well, don't blame me, blame science. These episodes received the least amount of votes in each 1st round poll (there was a tie for least in one poll, thus we have 5 options here). One vote for this poll, and it's only open for 3 days, part of which will run concurrent with the best episode polling.

Favorite Episode: Semifinals B
in Friendship is Magic Series
Posted
A: I am a she.
B: This semi turned out way stronger. I kick myself for not balancing this better, but the finals don't look like they're going to have any fluff episodes.
C: I mentioned it earlier, but if there's popular demand, I may make the next intermission a runoff "loser's bracket" of the 2 episodes that almost made it. Otherwise, I'll probably just have some fun with numbers.
