  1. TempestRime pointed out to me that Spike once turned into Godzilla because he got greedy. In that light, it would make sense that he'd adhere to a strict code to avoid it happening again.

I'm sure that's not what I said. There's a difference between saying 'This story the writer wrote was a bad story in my opinion because these things didn't make sense.' and 'Anything this writer writes is garbage.'

I believed I was doing the first, not the second. I also believe the second is a bad thing.

Almost everything these two have written that I have seen has been garbage, and I have to reason to expect that they won't continue to write garbage.

  2. With all respect to what Hope Fox said, and I agree that ad hominum attacks against the writers are not the sort of thing I'd expect to see her...

Then it all starts to go to pieces. What's this 'noble dragon code' he's suddenly spouting off on? We've seen dragons and their culture in Dragon Quest, and noble is the last thing I'd call them. Then, Spike, who basically cares for Twilight, is suddenly a clutz at any kind of housework?

So we're not to speak ill of the writers' writing, yet then you speak ill of their writing?

Nobody here has said anything about any of the writers that you haven't said yourself; we have just named names alongside our criticisms. Dave Polsky and Merriweather Williams might be wonderful people, they might be smart, they might be handsome or pretty, and they might even turn out good scripts, but based on the observations of myself and others (yourself included), they tend not to produce good writing for this show. There's nothing vile or dishonorable in pointing this out.

  3. Over all the episode was kind of boring to me, and very cliche. A typical you saved me I owe story. But what bothered me the most was the 3D Timberwolves. We already saw them during Granny Smith's flashback, so why try to one up it with animation? Especially when it was choppy and doesn't fit the rest of the show. It was jarring to watch.

Jarring, but the animation on the original timberwolves was rightly awful.

As for the episode: What Ginger said. I was expecting the moral to have to do with being flexible in ones values, and giving your friends the space they need, but nope. Polsky/Merriweather care more about the laughs. Oh well, at least said laughs were good enough.

In summary: The BEST Spike EPISODE EVER.

Now then, when are we going to see a Rarity episode?

  4. I think what you might be experiencing there is some values dissonance, and that might be part of the issue that some people have with the CMC.

They are much more akin to 10 year olds in the 80s than 10 year olds in the 90s. At least among people I knew that level of autonomy and lack of supervision was pretty standard, as was the penchant for hiding plans from adults. I think the writers are writing what they know, and haven't make the connection that it seems weird to some people.

Moreover, I suspect that in rural areas like Ponyville kids are given more freedom.

Truth is though that kids are no more in danger than they were when we were young. The media just sells that idea so hard that people have given in to fear.

  5. About the song, on the theater , Wooves X Derpy, cannot be unseen.

Sorry to break it to you, but that was Cloudkicker with Time Turner (Whooves) at the theater. Check the mane.

I was personally thrilled just to see a movie theater becoming canon. Being a videographer, this means OC pony videographer fan fics. :D

Projectors were canonized first in Hurricane Fluttershy.

    A common misconception.

If two vehicles of the same size collide at that speed and come to a dead stop, it is similar to hitting a tree at 15 mph. If a small vehicle and a large truck collide and after the collision the truck is moving at 14 mph, and the car is now moving backwards at 14 mph, then the truck saw a collision of 1 mph, and the car saw a collision of 29 mph.

DROPPIN KNOWLEDGE. The cars don't come to a dead stop though, they bounce a bit. So maybe it's not a 30 mph crash, but they do still suddenly reverse direction.

  7. I am never opposed to a Faust quote to make a point -- especially when it's to remind people that "it's a show for little girls" isn't a good reason to avoid the big issues.

I actually agree with a lot you say.

People need to be prepared for when that happens, and teaching kids to rely on authority is ultimately going to hurt them in the long run. One day, they're going to be adults and then they will be the authority, but how will they manage it if they've never had to be independent?

To put it another way, imagine if Ponyville solved all its problems--Parasprites, Pinkie Clones, love potions gone wrong, poison joke--by simply writing to Celestia and asking her to intervene. Yes, I know that happened precisely once, but that was an unusual circumstance where there was clearly no other alternative. It's because the mane six do most things themselves that they're able to take on gods, diamond dogs, and their own neurotic tendencies.

I think some people are reading me as "wah get gun start shooting people wah!" And that's not what I'm saying at all.

As adults, you are rarely the highest authority. There are bosses, cops, respected elders, presidents, CIA agents, the media, the local chapter of the Crips, and large dogs out there all more powerful than you. Heck, one of the whole purposes of cops is to stop people from threatening and beating each other up.

It feels to me, and I could very well be mistaken, that this episode rubs you the wrong way because it clashes with your ideology of individualism. Part of being an adult, I'd argue, IS knowing that there's nothing wrong with appealing to authority and relying on others. It can be overdone, like anything, but it oughtn't be taken as a sign of weakness to admit that we need help. Humans are social creatures after all. It's one of the things that makes us the awesomest creatures on the planet.
