I'm sorry I haven't been on. ;A;

I didn't forget about this place, but I never really though about finishing the picture for the time I was away because I was so caught up in another fandom.

I'll always and forever be a fan of MLP, but I really only got as into it as I did because it was helping me cope with the hiatus that Doctor Who was on before the second half of series 6 came back.

It's on hiatus once again so I'll probably be more active then I was now. ^^

I hope I'm forgiven for my absence.

I actually came up with a design not long after I posted that comment and uploaded the drawing I did on dA not long ago.

Here he is.

His tail is that of a shark's, but I didn't base it off of a real shark, I just copied their design with the tail about how sharks that chase fast prey have a larger bottom tail fin, etc.

I have no idea where I get all this patience from considering I'm the only one that I know of in the house with any of it at all. XD

As for the transforming him into a fish-tailed Kelpie, that wouldn't bother me at all. The only reason I gave him all four legs in the first place was because of his mother being an Earth Pony.

I'll play with his design while this application is continued to be looked over and take your time.

Ugh... Mongoloid, Negroid? I cringed while reading that. The genetics that cover skin color and appearance number only several hundred base pairs, out of billions. Two complete strangers of, say, european descent can be more genetically similar that myself and my own brother.

The whole "three equal types" hypothesis doesn't really mesh with reality either. In reality, genes code parts of the body in relationship to their position on the chromosome, so there's no chance that the genes for a horn and the genes for wings would overlap because they're located in different positions. Of course if that was the case, winged unicorns would be the most common type of pony and earth ponies would be the most rare.

If you want to have winged unicorn OCs, thats cool, and you could make it work genetically. Personally I think it cheapens the distinction a bit from a storytelling point of view. It makes it seem like there is one race type that is objectively better than another, and that doesn't jive with me.

I think this one's a much more reasonable explanation:

( I realize I must sound awful bitter or something, but the term alicorn always makes my brain want to explode. As a student of classical mythology, Alicorn was the substance a unicorn's horn was made out of. It'd be like calling a winged elephant an ivory. )

To tell the truth I read it once and didn't really think about it again until I came across this topic.

Excuse my naivety when it comes to anything over basic genetics.

I only came across the term "Alicorn" recently.

Before that I would call a Unicorn with wings, or a Pegasus with a horn, a Unipeg or a Pegicorn.

They are not horses... if they are what those people call horses then the people the created them do not know what a horse looks like. A three year old could draw a better horse then what those look like.

I thought they were dogs when the picture of Rarity and whatever-the-hell-that-is was loading.

Anyway...

I found this screenshot I took rather funny...

Creshosk has worked out how genetics could work - not so much as in the canon universe - but more then likely in the universe/s that fan characters would be placed into. It's more to show people that Alicorn OCs could work in alternate universes. But I found it very informative... while others found it to be "a violation to canon".

Hopefully the bronies here are more open to someone's ideas about such things.

Well, maybe one time they should meet then? He could travel to Hoofington sometime.

And he never over fishes or does anything to hurt the environment or well being of each fish species. He only takes what he needs and enough to make a living.

Hehe... I thought for a pony who spends most of his time in or around water that dreads would work since they look like reeds and Kelpies in old legends sometimes had river weeds and such tangled in their manes and tales.

[colour=#3366cc]While practicing his skills one day, he slipped and ended up getting a large gash across his muzzle from a knife he had been carrying to cut up the freshly caught fish he and his father had caught earlier that day. Thankfully it wasn't too bad, but he was told that maybe going back into the kitchen wasn't a good idea while he was healing - a bandage around his nose definitely made it difficult to taste test everything he was making. It didn't stop him though and the next morning his mother found him making them all some breakfast.[/colour]

[colour=#3366cc]The only other scar he has was from a time he was fishing by himself and a crocodile - usually found further up the rivers that ran from the lakes - grabbed a hold of his tail. He managed to fight it off, shoving a hoof down it's throat to get it to let go.[/colour]

[colour=#3366cc]His Nimbusgait accent - Scottish IRL - isn't as strong as his parent's, mostly coming out when he is angry which is rather rare. The only time you will see this Kelpie enraged is when somepony disrespects his cooking/food or mares and foals.[/colour]

[colour=#3366cc]Not one to over fish or hurt fish populations, he follows certain species depending on their migration and breeding patterns.[/colour]

[colour=#3366cc]He sometimes travels to other towns and cities as a traveling chef and to sell the fish that he catches - mostly to griffons and other meat eating creatures.[/colour]

[colour=#3366cc]He gets around out of water by using a type of wheelchair-like device that wraps around his hips to keep his tail up and not dragging on the ground.[/colour]

Makes sense. There's a little work of fiction I'm writing that has to do with dreamland. One of the things that is stopping me from proceeding forward with the work is that I've lost it. Hopefully sometime I can find it again and work on it.

Well, how about instead of doing little for it while you search, you think of what could happen in it?

Make up scenarios with the characters that you could use later in the story that you have yet to find?

I myself would go ahead with writing down some of the ideas that have sprung into my head - fandom based or not - but as I've stated before I need a lot of motivation to keep me interested. It really sucks.

@Klondike Starflier - Thanks, I shall take a look at them when I get the chance to. I need to work on my pony roleplaying. I use to rp horses a lot, but I've never really rped MLP.

Well, I love to write fiction. Mostly stories I do write are for fandoms I am a part of.

I seem to be in the same boat as yourself though. I can handle a short story every now and then when I get a spur of inspiration and have the time to jot it down. But when it comes to longer stories, I need 10x as much motivation to continue writing however many chapters may be created then I do if I was drawing or maybe writing a poem.

I guess though, to answer that, one would have to look at authors like that of J.K.Rowling. (HP Fan )

But at the same time - going by what I've heard at some point in my life - the best way to stick with something and do something well is to be selfish and create something you yourself would want to see/read. ^^
