  1. So, I noticed many fan artists seem to change up Twilight's skin tone when they humanize her... sometimes she's white, sometimes she's black, and sometimes she's Asian... Now, that could just be different strokes for different folks, but then i noticed that many of the official toys seem to give her a more of a thinner eye, making her look more oriental...

    9819%20-%20applejack%20artist%3Athatgeekgirl%20custom%20dress%20fluttershy%20gala_dress%20pinkie_pie%20rainbow_dash%20toy%20twilight_sparkle.jpg

Then you have Zecora, who obviously has some African tribal traits, so you COULD say that her human form would be darker skinned, although you could ALSO say that 'It's a Zebra, Zebra's are from Africa, That's all. there's no real 'race' correlation between them"

The only 'french' character I've seen was the Griffon from mmmystery, and although Gilda didn't do anything really frenchy, it could be that she just spent more time away from the language. French (Or at least something similar) is obviously a part of their world since Applebloom was speaking it in the CutiePox episode...

I can't help but feel like i'm being a bit stereotypical of races talking about this... but this kinda interests me ... Do the ponies have 'races' that can be translated to human races?

(I'm sure the real life answer would be 'it's just easier to emulate races we're already familiar with rather than to invent races and cultures in show. for example, we know that France is known for it's fancy cuisine, so giving Gustav a french accent automatically makes us think 'oh hey, he's french, he must be a good cook, and will be a challenge for Pinkie"...)

  2. Finally had the time to read it. That is a very interesting take on things.

It certainly plays on the Celestia the Tyrant meme very well.

    And the statue bit... *shudder*

Yeah, i thought it was interesting when he told me about it. it's certainly an idea i'd like to play with in the future...

But what statue bit do you mean exactly? The foreshadowing?

  3. So, I know Lauran Faust, Tara Strong and... well, that's all really... those are basically the two biggest names for the FIM series, and i really feel terrible that i dont know MORE of the staff and what they've done in the past...

Lauren worked on Power Puff Girls, iron Giant, Fosters home for imaginary friends, and a few other things...

Tara Strong did Dill Pickles from Rugrats, Harley quinn in Batman, and i know she's done some other things...

Ah, and John De Lance was Q on Star trek...

So tell me some more names of people who work on MLP or HAVE worked on it and what they have done in the past so i dont feel ignoratn...

  4. I don't read too much, but a friend of mine suggested a thought to me that helped me write a fanfic. It was his idea, but i was the one to write it now as a narrative...

Basically, the idea is that Discord is not really a god of chaos... he's a god of nature... Celestia has made most everything controllable by ponies, and made thing so orderly that everyone is use to how things are now.

The length of a day is controlled by Celestia, as well as the night

The season's change when the ponies want them to (Winter wrap up and the running of the leaves)

Pegasus control the weather in every aspect.

There are very few truly 'wild' animals outside of the everfree forest (Birds have to be brought back north, etc)

Apparently they have a lot of control over plant life as well, (Comment about the everfree forest and their trees growing 'all by themselves')

So yeah, ponies have control over everything in Equestria (outside of the forest) So... what if thing were to happen 'naturally'? If apples grew all by themselves, some might become bigger than normal... but when all you've ever seen were regular sized apples, you might embellish how big these new apples are...

It's a hallucination of sorts... You've grown use to how everything is regulated, and how everything looks, and suddenly it all changes, you would start to see things being VERY different. Like if the world suddenly started spinning faster and the day became 16 hours long instead of 24... It's not a huge change, but when you've been use to 24 hours your entire life, suddenly it's a sign of the apocalypse.

So to the mane six, the apple's are GIGANTIC! but that's a delusion of never seeing apples grow on their own.

and the rain clouds, They probably purify the water before making clouds, and possibly bleach them in some way... so if a natural cloud with not-as-clean water, and not as white clouds, Suddenly it seems like "OMG! GIANT PINK COTTON CANDY CLOUDS AND IT'S RAINIGN CHOCOLATE!!!"

Or the animals suddenly growing six feet tall, They've been taking care of animals and regulating their diet and whatnot, so they expect them to be a certain size... but when they see them grow a bit bigger, they see a delusional hallucination of a giant bunny runny around.

So once they've seen these few changes brought on by Discord, suddenly everyhting looks chaotic, nothing is in order, everything is going crazy! When in actuallity, it's just natural...

Heck,i could even argue that everyone acting like the opposite of themselves in natural... You try to regulate your emotions, but sometimes ou find yourself not acting like yourself... and again, when all you know is 'A kind and caring pony who might be a little too timid" and suddenly that changes... it's chaotic...

I really like it, and i think you should take a look =3

  5. I understand,, and i dont mean for him to just outright run up to his step mom and tell her to shove it, But We've already seen him post once about them having issues for no reason, and now he's posting again that things are STILL wrong... yeah, he talked to them about it, but apparently there are still underlying issues that need to be resolved... My concern is that he'll come back and post again about issues... and again, and again....... and then he'll stop posting all together......

The moment has passed, so there's no need to take action... but I'm saying that next time the issue is brought up he needs to stand up for himself...

And no, it may not be a religion, but it's certainly not jsut a show anymore... This is a community of generally wonderful and nice people who generally believe in treating others properly. and to try and take that away is a horrible thing to do... Like if your mom forced you out of boy scouts because she doesn't like how they dont like gays in their group.... It may not be a religion, but it is a big part of life. I wouldn't have met some amazing people because of MLP and the thought that someone who is ignorant to what Bronies stand for is trying to take that away... It's very bothersome to me... I've met a lot of awesome people and enjoyed plenty of wonderful material from the community and i dont think i'd give it up for the world...

I understand the whole 'slippery slope' thing isn't a good argument... but it DOES happen...

"First they came for the communists,

    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,

    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,

    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew."

    Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me

Yes, using a Holocaust poem may be a bit extreme... but the point i'm trying to make is that at some point you HAVE to put your foot down. Sure telling him that talking to his cousin about this isn't completely outrageous, but it's obvious she is VERY much against bronies, (I mean if she walks into the room and CANNOT leave without flipping his brony wallet over, there is obviously something wrong here) And i'm sure she will continue to push her opinion on him

now i want to reiterate, taking action NOW would be silly... the moment has passed, nothing you can do... but at SOME POINT, if she keeps forcing her ignorant will upon you, you gotta take a stand... I know confrontation sucks, and it could end up hurting things... but doing nothing will only make you sadder...

I've given my opinion now, and i dont think i'll be swayed much by others on this particular issue... So i think this'll be my last post in this discussion... Whatever you choose to do, man, i only hope for the best...

  6. The problem is parents DO do that, all the time (granted not with friends, but with their work in general). And there are many ways to deal with it, however directly opposing them almost never works with stubborn people, which this step-mother seems to be. If you directly oppose them, they have ways to make your life miserable. The best case scenario in what you suggested is that the parents buckle and you win and you get to be who you are without consequence. The worst case is they take away privileges, become more strict and punish you for basically no reason, other than you opposing them. There are ways to block access on the TV and computer and internet if they take the time to learn how. It can basically backfire completely.

Keeping things to yourself is how many people deal with issues like this. They know he enjoys it, and they let him enjoy it, albeit not happily. Pushing the matter won't fix anything, at least not in this situation, not the way I'm reading it. If he keeps it to himself as they requested, nothing bad will happen. He told his cousin once, his cousin probably has seen ponies on the internet (lets face it, at this point, they are everywhere), if he is interested he'll seek it out. Troth doesn't need to push any further with his cousin. So respecting his step-mother's wishes shouldn't be difficult. And he is still open to talk to his friends about it, because parents can't really do much with friends unless they approach them or they come over.

I still don't think that's going to work... If you give her an inch, she'll take a mile...

"Don't talk to your cousin about this"

    "Okay"

"Now i dont want you wearing that stuff in public"

    "Okay"

"Now i dont want you talking to your brony friends"

    "okay"

"Now i dont want you watching the show period"

    "Okay..."

It's only going to get worse unless he stand his ground... she'll take one thing at a time until he has nothing left... I dont mean for him to directly oppose her, he just has to stand his ground, Tell them this is who he is and the should respect that, which they obviously do not... Doing nothing and ignoring the situation will only give her more power to continue pushing until he has nothing left...

  7. I really have to disagree with this, Foxy. She's asking him not to talk to his cousin about pony. That's it. This has nothing to do with support or love (plus the added complexity that Thoth isn't her biological child), so in this instance I think it would be better to just step back, chill out, and respect her wishes. He's free to continue enjoying pony. There's no reason to turn it into a struggle of will when it's not a big situation in the first place, and there's really nothing to prove without causing a big problem for Thoth. Martydom is going to fall on deaf ears in this situation -- one that is thoroughly preventable by choosing to back off for the time being.

sorry, but i still gotta stick to my guns here... This is a bigger issue than that... He's a brony, this is a big part of his life, and she is condemning him for trying to share his interests with other people... Say you like to draw, drawing is your passion... But when you try to show your friends your work, you parents snatch it from you, ball it up and toss it away while saying "Keep this fitlth away fro mother people"

That's the impression i'm getting from this story... her telling him not to talk about bronies is just the tip of a much larger issue that needs to be resolved, or else it will grow into something bigger than he can handle... Eventually he's either going to have to stand up for himself or he's going to have to give up being a brony... That's the only thing i'm seeing here... Ignoring it will only give her the strength to finally push him away from what he loves...

  8. I really don't know how to help with this... The only advice i can give would revolve around her head firmly implanted in her rear end with no chance of prying it out...

If she won't listen, she won't listen. If she thinks it's sinful, she'll continue to think it's sinful. If she doesn't like it, she'll never like it...Thats just how people are sometimes... The only thing i can think of would be to take a final stand... stand your ground, tell her that she should be a supportive mother, that she should love you for who you are... and if she can't... welll... It's hard for you to love her if she won't love you...

It's harsh, yeah... And i dont think i could do it myself... but frankly it's all i can think of... everything else hasn't worked, so i can't imagine the same strategy with her...

Unless we can get someone who your step mom knows and recognizes as a popular figure to say something nice about bronies, nothing will change... She doesn't happen to know Howard Stern? you could show her his tweet about being a brony... Otherwise, we would need someone who she knows to support bronies for her to EVER consider bronies as being good people...

  9. I'd totally entrust my money to some guy with a video of him smashing a calculator on his youtube channel.

hehehe true true... But it WOULD say that i take whatever precautions are necessary to make entertaining videos, hehe...

but no, it's dedicated on their site =3

  10. Talex has a good point about making a quick appeal to the browsing people.

Now that I have an understanding of what you are doing, I think you might run into some trouble if you're trying to "quiz" service industry staff. It's a fun idea in theory, but as they are on the job, they (and you) could get in trouble without some prior agreement from the establishment. What if the roles reversed, and you quizzed customers for cash instead?

Either way, you'll need to tighten up your idea and try not to explain too much, while giving the reader a quick idea about what they might be getting into by donating money to your idea.

Well yeah, i had planned on asking the managers permission first. i understand that they're on the clock, but i would only take a minute of their time.... As for asking customers, i think dressing up in a food service uniform and not being employed there would cause more issues, even if we agreed to it.

and again, yeah, i plan to write a shorter version. it's just that there's a video required and i wanted to make sure people understood all the aspects... i mean, they'll be donating money, so i thin they'd want to know that i have things planned out.

  11. I think what might be cool, is if some one donates then they get to write up some of the questions. Or maybe one question. I don't know, just a suggestion. And like Rosewind said, a summery would help. Your advertising to people that are just browsing what they could donate in, not someone who is already interested. Try to format a last paragraph that really pitches what you are doing to someone who is just glancing over.

I would have to double check the questions, but yeah, maybe have a 'submitted by blah' written somewhere on the video =3 and yeah, i know, this was just the longwinded version.

  12. Do you have a TL;DR? Honestly that format and presentation needs some work.

Try to summarize what you're doing in three paragraphs or less, as it seems to me like you're not quite sure what you're doing.

well that's just for the video as a whole... the basic idea is:

My idea is a ‘Drive thru quiz show’, where I go through the drive thru window of a fast food place to quiz the workers for cash."

What i posted is the long version i'll be putting in the video and the main description.... it's basically got all the info on how everything will work.

  13. So, there's this site called Kickstarter, where you post ideas you have for a project, you recieve pledges from people who want to see this go through, and if they reach their goal, they can fund their project. most of these include people wanting to publish their CDs, so people who pledge money to them usually get a free CD because of their donation...

So, i wanted to do a kickstarter, and this was basically my script for what i plan to say... Please, let me know what you think of this idea, how the wording sounds, if you have any ideas on how this should work, and what sort of rewards should i offer people who donate? I have a few ideas listed, but i don't know if that's enough...

the short version is "My idea is a ‘Drive thru quiz show’, where I go through the drive thru window of a fast food place to quiz the workers for cash."

Hello There! I don’t know about you, but I grew up on game shows. I had the game show network for a long time and constantly watched many older game shows with my family. It was fun watching the contestants squirm when they don’t know the answer, or those last few seconds of panic as the clock runs down… I especially loved trivia shows like Jeopardy and Trivial pursuit.

However one thing I never did like about these shows was this… All the contestants were filtered… Take a look, every single person is a lawyer, doctor, engineer, going to some fancy collage and goes on mission trips every weekend… No one seems like an average joe. No one is the produce department manager at the local grocery store, no one works the drive thru at McDonalds, no one is the cashier at Wal-mart… And you’d be surprised how smart they can be, but no show will give them the chance…

So, my idea for a game show is a sort of ‘Drive thru quiz show’, where I have two game modes. 1: go through the drive thru window of a fast food place, ask them 5 questions, and for each correct answer, they earn a few dollars, with a double or nothing question offered to them at the end.

The second game mode would be a more stealthy mode… standing in line with some products and stealthily asking them questions while they win money without even knowing it…

I hope to make a youtube channel out of this, posting each game on that channel. I hope that over time the ad revenue will bring in enough money to stabilize the show, enough for prize money as well as travel expenses.

I believe it would be really interesting and entertaining to see regular everyday people you see every day answering tough trivia questions… It might be surprising that the person who just sold you a burger and fries knows about the Higgs Boson, or that the person who sold you a DVD player actually knows what DVD stands for.

So, that’s the idea… but here’s where I need help with funds… I feel that in order to present to everyone an engaging and interesting video I would need to edit the video a considerable bit. I have a basic knowledge of editing already, and I’m usually quick to pick up tricks with technology… the problem is my computer doesn’t have near enough power to process high def video and edit it at the same time. I barely have 2 gigs of RAM and a video card that isn’t even worth mentioning, not to mention a small hard drive full of hand-me-down programs I can’t seem to get rid of entirely. It’s a terrible computer and that makes it very difficult to edit videos properly.

Then there’s travel. I want to avoid doing this game show within my home town because, well, I live here… If I go around giving money out willy nilly people might recognize me… and that’s one thing you DON’T want to be known for is having lots of money and just giving it out… I believe I will be taking day trips to nearby towns and making a run through a couple places in a day. So gas money to run around to these places would get expensive…

And then finally, there’s the prize money… You can’t have a gameshow without it… I was thinking starting off with $25 as a start, and if things go well I hope to move up to $100 for the maximum prize… It all depends on how much I have at one time.

For now, I’m asking for $1500 to get this project started… $800 for the computer to edit it on, $200-ish on gas for a couple of trips to cities and towns in the area, and $500 in prizes. I promise that every penny will go toward making this an amazing game show that many people will enjoy.

So then… as for the reward… I think it would be very hard to give anyone a meaningful reward… I could just pay the money back, but that would be kind of lame… Of course, to everyone who donates I’ll dedicate an episode to you, and advertise whatever you’d like me to, whether it’s a project you have, a channel you have a website, whatever.

Now, for $10 or more, I’ll let you do the introduction for an episode of the show. I’ll let you know when I’m ready and you just send me in a video of you introducing the show.

If you donate $25 or more, I’ll find a way to incorporate your help into quizzing the unsuspecting contestants. At the moment I’m revolving around the idea of you calling them up while I’m in the store, you quiz them, and I’ll be the one to deliver the reward. I’m still working around some more ideas like that, so we’ll just have to see how that works…

For larger donations… I’m not entirely certain… I would love to actually visit donators and take them with me around town to quiz people, but unless you’re close by, it would cost a lot of money simply to travel to where you are… I might just incorporate your help into multiple episodes if you donate more than $50, we will have to see.

So, that’s the entirety of my plan so far… I hope to receive your help soon, and I hope to get started on this amazing project just as quickly.
