The ChatRoom:

Canterlot.com's Chatroom is on irc.naughtygazelle which is an IRC network.

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, and is one of the oldest form of multi-user text based conversations.

The Client:

The web-based client on canterlot.com requires Flash to function.

You may use your own client for more functionality using the details below.

Your UserName:

Your Canterlot.com member profile name and password is not associated with an IRC server.

You can use any name which is great for RolePlaying your characters, however, to prevent your name being used by others you will need to register your 'nick' (as in nick-name). This is explained below.

Logging in - Web Based Client:

When you open our web-based client you will be asked to enter a name and a password.

Again your Canterlot.com account is not linked so you will need to enter a name yourself.

Password can be left blank. This is used when you have registered your nick (name).

Logging In - Stand Alone IRC Client:

Information needed to connect to us via your own IRC client here:

Server: irc.naughtygazelle.com

Port: 6667

Channels (ChatRooms):

#Canterlot - Our main chatroom.

Note: You can create your own channels by typing /join #channelname

Registering

To register your name on the IRC server, type the following.

/nickserv REGISTER <password> <email-address>

After verifying your email you can now use the Mibbit client's password entry (or stand alone client's own password setting) on start-up to automatically log in or type /identify <password> when connected.

This will prevent your name being taken by others.

Note: The IRC network we use is used by lots of other people across the globe. Your name may already be registered by someone else. There isn't anything we can do about that I'm afraid. In which case you'll need to be creative with your username.

Some other handy commands:

/nick <nick> This command allows you to change your name. To change your name to "Scootaloo", you would simply type /nick Scootaloo. You can set your nickname before entering the chatroom, but if you forget, this command will set things straight.

/join <#channel> This allows you to enter a room, or channel, type in /join #channelname. A channel list is provided at the bottom of this page.

/query <nick> Creates a message window seperate from the chatroom/channel to privately talk to someone.
