Staying safe on the Internet and beyond.

All sorts of people use Canterlot.com to RP, chat and make friends.

But it's important that our younger users (under 18 years old) stay safe when using our website, the rest of the internet and more recently meeting others at conventions and other smaller meets.

  • Keep safe by being careful not to give our personal information - such as your name, email address, phone number, home address, photos or school name - to people you are chatting with online.
  • Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. Only do so with your parents' or carers' permission and even then only when can be present.
  • Accepting emails, IM messages or opening files, pictures or texts from people you don't know or trust can lead to problems - the may contain viruses or nasty messages!
  • Information you find on the internet may not be true, or someone online may be lying about who they are.
  • Tell your parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online.

** You can report any abuse on Canterlot.com by clicking 'report' found in all posts and private messages.

Most information is from Childnet International who have lots more information and advice.

Going to a public meet-up or convention:

  • Be honest with your parents or carers. Tell them where you want to go and who you want meet.
  • Take a friend, you can look out for each other (it would be boring on your own, anyway).
  • 621 rule at conventions - Per day you need a minimum of: 6 hours of sleep, 2 meals, 1 shower.
  • Make sure you're always contactable by your friends and family. Send a quick SMS now and then and tell them how great the convention is and what they're missing. (It let's them know you're ok without anyone sounding paranoid)
  • Do not accept drinks or food from strangers or people you don't know very well.
  • Don't leave your drink or food unattended.

Most of all, please use your loaf. Your common sense and awareness is an important factor to make sure you're safe and have a good time with your friends at the same time.
