Name: Chrysalis

Gender: female

Age: adult

Species: changeling

Eye color: yellowish green. Eyes have distinctive elongated pupils but do not resemble typical changeling eyes.

Character color: Her coat is a very dark gray. There are splotches of a lighter gray along her neck. A plate that sits on her back and across her waist is an iridescent blue-green.

Mane/Tail/Other: Her mane and tail are teal in color. Both are long, but without much volume and are frayed at the ends. Holes of varying sizes can be found in them toward the ends.

Physique: Chrysalis significantly taller and thinner than a normal changeling, comparable in shape to an alicorn princess. The bottom halves of her legs, like the ends of her tail and mane, are filled with a number of different sized holes. She has translucent, insect-like wings that are likewise filled with holes. She has a very large horn which has a gnarled, angular look and a four pronged crown like appendage sticking out from the top of her head at an angle.

Residence: The Kingdom of Changelings

Occupation: Changeling Queen

Cutie Mark: N/A

Unique Traits: Being a queen, Chrysalis has abilities significantly greater and more varied than the average changeling. In addition to the ability to perfectly assume the shape of others and to drain other organisms of their love, she can use her magic to control the minds of those she has drained to a certain point. Like other changelings, she can also fire a beam of offensive magic from her horn, though in her case this is significantly more powerful; in the case that she has drained enough love from others, it can be even stronger an attack then the very most powerful unicorns and even alicorns can muster. In addition to this, Chrysalis has a variety of other magics at her disposal, such as the ability to generate a magic green fire which can be used to transport others through solid objects and surfaces and the ability to magically project her image (or assumed image) onto surfaces.

In addition to her magic, Chrysalis also has her status as a leader setting her apart. She is able to command armies of loyal changeling minions to do her every bidding. She is a fairly cunning and bold queen, known to craft intricate plans to acquire what she wants. She is especially good at reading and manipulating situations which--coupled with the wealth of knowledge she has acquired--allows her to effectively deceive even those not easily deceived.

History: Chrysalis was born to be a Queen. Daughter of the previous queen of the changelings, the physical differences between herself and the average changeling was apparent from her birth. Recognizing what she was and what she would be in the future, her mother put extra care into giving her an upbringing worthy of one who would one day command a kingdom. She was presented with the knowledge of the world the changelings of her kingdom had collected since the start of their kingdom and made to study and learn as much as she could. Elsewhere her magic skills were steadily honed to perfection under the guidance of her mother.

Through it all, the young Chrysalis didn't often complain even as the demands made of her became stricter and stricter as she grew. She was in love with the idea of power from the start, and as she learned more and more about the outside world, she became increasingly compelled by it. The changelings of her kingdom had, throughout her mother's rule and the rule of the past several queens before her had strayed little from their kingdom, to the point where they had all but disappeared into legends for the ponies of the distant land of Equestria. As she learned of these foreign lands, the notion of changing this became increasingly alluring to the young changeling princess. While still small, she had dreams of seeing Equestria's ponies submit to her as she triumphantly claimed their delicious love for her and her changelings.

As she grew to full maturity, Chrysalis' royal gifts were further honed until such point as her power matched that of her mother's. Around this time, she started to become popular with the subjects, winning hearts with speeches of her plans to in time invade the pony lands and claim their bountiful love to feed her subjects. The changelings of the kingdom, who had for years been resigned to simply feeding on the creatures of the nearby forests, became eager, but Chrysalis' mother remained cautious, believing a reckless attempt at an invasion of Equestria could prove disastrous.

It wasn't until the death of the elder changeling queen that Chrysalis would get her opportunity to launch her first attempt at an invasion as the new queen. Pulling from all her studies, Chrysalis put together a plan to conquer Equestria by cutting off its head--by capturing the Princess Celestia and claiming the capital of Canterlot, she was confident she could leave the ponies disabled and broken. Sending her spies into the city, Chrysalis determined the best course of action was to capture and assume the identity of a young alicorn princess by the name of Cadenza Mi Amore who happened to be engaged to the REA's most powerful barrier magic user, Captain Shining Armor. By getting close to the young Captain, she would be able to slip conveniently under his barriers and in doing so would be able to also take advantage of the abundance of love young betrothed ponies have for one another. In emulating Cadenza's form and absorbing and controlling Shining Armor she would be able to acquire the strength to subdue Celestia and then allow for her changelings to swarm and overwhelm the unprepared city. She was satisfied the plan was fool proof--Canterlot would fall and fall quickly and completely.

The plan started off without a hitch. Cadenza was captured and taken to the crystal mines underneath the city of Canterlot, which Chrysalis had learned about in her studies. Chrysalis assumed her form and quickly managed to deceive Shining Armor and started to drain his love. As the wedding grew near, the queen became convinced of her inevitable success. All was going well until a certain pony entered the picture and sought to spoil the plan. She was Twilight Sparkle, the sister of Shining Armor and one of the users of the Elements of Harmony. Even as Chrysalis was able to keep all others deceived, this one pony remained suspicious of her. Frustrated by the danger she posed, Chrysalis considered how best to do away with this pony before she ruined everything. with some clever acting, she successfully painted Twilight's suspicions as jealousy and turned the others against her. Then, while the unicorn was demoralized, Chrysalis confronted her and trapped her in the crystal mines with the real Cadenza.

Again, all seemed sure to go according to plan, but just as the wedding was to be held, Twilight and Princess Cadenza escaped and confronted her before everyone, revealing Chrysalis was an impostor. With no other options, Chrysalis was forced to speed up her plan and immediately begin the invasion. She subdued and captured Celestia and then had her changelings break through the weakened barrier around Canterlot. Her changelings are able to successfully defeat and capture Twilight and the other users of the Elements of Harmony as they mount their invasion, but shortly afterward the plan would unravel when Twilight again managed to free the captive Princess Cadenza who, in turn reunited with Shining Armor and granted him the love requisite to generate a powerful changeling expelling barrier which ejected Chrysalis and her minions from Canterlot.

The taste of her first defeat was bitter for the young queen. She was filled with a deep sense of frustration as well as a seething hatred. Taking the defeat personally, she became even more set on invading Equestria. She swore revenge against the one who destroyed her plan, Twilight Sparkle, and immediately began work on plans to get even. Deciding that the ponies who bore the Elements of Harmony were even more of a threat to her than Celestia herself, Chrysalis turned her gaze from Canterlot toward the small town of the Ponyville where the six lived. A number of plans would follow, including most recently a plan which had the element bearers captured individually and replaced by changelings in advance of the pony celebration of Nightmare Night when much of the town would have a lessened guard and be more susceptible to traps. This plan nearly succeeded, but the spirit of the ponies there for the celebration proved to be far greater than Chrysalis had accounted for, allowing them to fight her and her changelings off until such time as the ponies could be reinforced by ponies from the REA, forcing a changeling retreat.

Character Summary: Queen Chrysalis is a very bold and very controlling personality. She is in love with the idea of power, whether it be over her minions or over those she has forced to submit to her. She is used to and expects to get her way, and is quick to lash out at whoever is available when she doesn't. She never hesitates to order her subjects around and can at times act callously or even cruelly toward them, especially when they fall short of her expectations. She is exacting and detail oriented, trying her best to plan meticulously whatever she does--though she has proven to be, in practice, prone to underestimating her enemies. She is prone to intense hatred for those who have bested her or are poised to threaten her plans and is known to form grudges.

Perhaps unexpectedly, Chrysalis has a serious flair for theatrics. She delights in playing the villain to her would be victims, and is prone to gloating, sometimes at inopportune times. She especially loves the feel of deceiving others, the act of successfully fooling her enemies filling her with intense delight. It is this which has her always want to play a key central role in her plans directly instead of delegating everything to her minions. She has a love of attention, stemming from a deep sense of entitlement reinforced by her royal upbringing.

Chrysalis does not have an abundance of patience. Children and general foolishness are quick to grate on her and can drive her to lash out. She tends to roll her eyes at or actively mock certain notions like friendship and harmony that she sees the ponies as clinging to. She can be fairly well humored in most situations, with something of a defined, sarcastic wit. She's quick to poke fun at or tease her subjects over their shortcomings. She can on rare occasion, when in a thoroughly good mood, even be quite playful. At other times she's best described as cynical.

Chrysalis takes her role as Queen very seriously. This is one reason why her failures frustrate her so much. In part the invasion are fueled by hate or a want to express her prowess, cunning, ability to plan and skills at deception, but beyond that it really is about providing her subjects with the sustenance that she believes they deserve. Even when she does tease her followers, she has a lot of pride in them as a whole and a lot of what makes defeat so bitter is the sense that she's letting them down as well as herself. She wants desperately to live up to the examples set by previous changeling queens and do her best to provide whatever it is she can for the changelings who serve her.

Personally, Chrysalis is exceedingly guarded. She prefers that others see her as a queen and leader or alternatively a threat. She does not frequently let others close to her and as a result there are few who could ever claim to know her well. While in disguise, she is very eager to worm her way into the hearts of victims to obtain love, but intimacy of any real sort directed toward her true self is not something she is especially prepared to address and can in fact be quick to reject.

Though high strung when in the moment, Chrysalis in her free time likes nothing more than taking moments to relax quietly. She enjoys reading, especially about Equestria as she believes every little detail could prove invaluable to her plans. She has a fondness for music, and is even known to sing to herself on occasion. She also enjoys regularly receiving thorough massages from her subjects. She attests that proper relaxation is paramount to keeping her from coming too far undone.
