  1. Welcome to Canterlot! We’re so happy to have you here. Actually, we’re probably even worse than Pinkie Pie at containing our excitement about the fact that you’re here! And if you’re looking at this thread, you probably want to introduce yourself, but don’t really know how to go about doing so. That’s okay! Everyone’s a little nervous when they first meet new people. I’m a little nervous typing this! But I’m typing this to help you get a good idea of how to introduce yourself to all these wonderful new people you’ll meet here on Canterlot.com.

Before I begin, though, there’s probably one thing I should make sure you know. You need three posts in order to unlock a lot of the things you can do on this site. Without those three posts, you can’t edit your posts or add pictures to the gallery. Not being able to edit your posts can make applying for a character really, really difficult. We suggest that you post your introduction and say hello to a few other new members in order to get your three required posts quickly and easily.

Now, there are a few hard and fast rules to posting an introduction.

    • Please don’t share any personal information. This includes your full legal name, your age, where you live, and anything else that somebody could use to find you.
    • Please don’t roleplay in your introduction post. While we’re really excited to meet your characters, right now we’re more excited to meet you! Tell us about yourself, so we can get to know you better.
    • Don’t advertise anything. Whether it’s a project or another website, we don’t want you to join our site just to advertise things.
    • Accidents happen. If you accidentally double post or you messed something up in your introduction and can’t edit it yet, use the REPORT button (it should be on the lower right corner of your post) to let staff know, and we’ll take care of it as soon as we can!

And now we get to the really important part… your introduction!

    • About Myself This is easily the most important part of your introduction. Tell us what you do, what you like, and who are! We’ve got all sorts here, so you’re bound to find someone with common interests on Canterlot!
    • How I found Canterlot.com We on staff are always really interested to find out how everyone found Canterlot. Let us know how you stumbled across our site!
    • How I became a fan of MLP:FiM It can be really interesting to read how different people fell in love with My Little Pony! Tell us your story! We have all the time in the world.
    • My favorite main cast/pony This is pretty self-explanatory. Which pony is your favorite? I know, the list of options is a little slim, but we’re working on changing this question to make the answers a little less restricted.
    • And here’s the fun part. The rest of your post can be whatever you want it to be! It can be more about yourself, or maybe some questions for us! Whatever you want to tell us that could help start a conversation is great.

So now that you have an idea of how to introduce yourself, go ahead! We’d love to get to know you! And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask myself or another staff member. We’re here to help, after all. :)

  2. Yes, a two year necropost. Thank you. While not against board rules, necroposting is generally frowned upon. I understand if you really, really, really wanted to weigh in on this, but please be aware of how old the most recent post on a thread is when considering posting in it.

As for the actual content, since this is a children's show, it's safe to assume it's non-alcoholic cider (and for the sake of WoE threads, it's non-alcoholic). Also, there are apple sodas: carbonated apple drinks. They would fizz, just like any other soda, so the show's version of apple cider is probably closer to apple soda.

  3. Hi there! If you’ve found your way here, you probably have a question, and you’ve come to the right place. This section is where you can ask the staff as a whole questions in regards to the board, and someone will be along to help you in no time. We do have a few guidelines we’d like you to follow, though, so please keep these in mind when you have a question.

    • Your question may have been asked before. It’s no fun for staff to have to answer the same question two days in a row, so do a quick sweep of the first few pages of this section to see if anybody else has had the same question recently. There is also a list of Frequently Asked Questions further down in this thread.
    • There is a sub-section for RP-related items. The general questions section is specifically for forum-related issues. If your question is about roleplay materials, be sure you post your thread in the correct section. If you need help with breaking into roleplay, please let the Welcome Wonderbolts know in this thread.
    • Your question may be covered in the rules or other materials. Please make sure you’ve read through our rules before asking your question. If your question is about species or locations in RP, check through our lore. There may be a document in there that could answer your question.
    • The title of your post should be relevant to your question. If the title of your post either is your question or includes information about your question, it makes it easier for help staff to know which questions they can answer and which they can't (We each know some things, but I don't think any one of us knows everything! Except maybe Rosie.). It also helps other users who are having the same problem or have the same question find the solution/answer more easily.

That should cover everything. As mentioned above, we’ve included a FAQ. If you think something should be added to this list that isn’t here, please let a staff member know so we can edit accordingly!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I edit the title of a thread I started?

A: Go to your original post in the thread. In the lower right corner of your post, there should be an EDIT link. Clicking that link will bring up the quick editing window. Click on the FULL EDITOR button to bring up the full post editor. In the full post editor, there will be a field above the post body that will contain the current title of the thread. You may change your title here. Click on SUBMIT CHANGES to save the edited post.

Q: Why can I not edit my posts?

A: You probably don’t have three posts yet. An easy way to get three posts is to post an introduction, or say hello to some other new members in the intro board. Basically, make some friends! :)

Q: What are member titles and how do I get a new one?

A: See on my sidebar profile above my avatar where it says “Spirit Guide?” That’s my member title. If you’re a brand new member, yours is probably Blank Flank or Rock Farmer. As your post count goes up, your member title will change, or, if a staff member with the appropriate power sees fit, you may get a custom member title tailored to your personality, interests, or characters!

Q: Why can’t I post in the Canterlot Chronicles or World of Equestria roleplay sections?

A: Have you had an accepted character application for one of these sections? If not, you won’t be able to post in either of them. If you have, are they your first character for that section? It might take a bit for the admins to change your account permissions so that you can post in those sections. They work as quickly as they can, though, so be patient and your permissions will be changed soon enough.

Q: What are the little symbols under everyone’s posts, and how do I get one?

A: Those are awards! I have two awards that show what my job as a staff member is. One of them says that I’m an RP Helper. That means if you have any questions about the site, you can ask me, and I’ll do my best to help you! The other is a Lead Pony Badge from the Wonderbolts Academy, and it says that I’m a member of the Welcome Wonderbolts. The various Elements of Harmony are awarded for exemplifying that element, and other awards are for participation in events! As you spend time on the site and engage in roleplay and interact with the community, you’ll be presented with many opportunities to get awards, so don’t fret if you don’t have one yet.

Q: Why do my gallery pictures not show up?

A: Our gallery is under strict moderation, so your pictures won’t be visible to the public at first. When a moderator or administrator has had a chance, they’ll approve your picture, usually within 24 hours.

Q: It’s already been 24 hours! Why isn’t my picture there?

A: It may have been rejected for a number of reasons. We maintain a PG-13 rating here, so anything that would go beyond that rating would not be approved. We also do not approve art that doesn’t belong to you. Anything that you didn’t make, buy, or were gifted cannot be kept in the gallery on-site. Finally, we do not approve recolors or traced images.

Q: Why can't I post anything to the gallery?

A: As with editing your posts, posting to the gallery requires that you have three posts elsewhere in the forum. Make sure you have those three posts, and if you're still experiencing problems, please let us know!

Q: Why is there a donator member rank if there isn't any way to donate?

A: Before the administration change, there was a donation option. If someone donated to the site, they were helping to pay for monthly server costs, and they earned the ability to change their username once a month and access a special donators-only section of the forum. Rosie and Dio have decided, however, that they want to overhaul the donation system, so it's currently not available. Keep your eyes peeled, though! There'll be an announcement when they've finished overhauling it.

Q: What's the difference between the RP Certified and RP Apprentice member ranks?

A: Anyone with the RP Apprentice member rank has a character approved for the Canterlot Chronicles roleplay section, and has the ability to post in that section. Anyone with the RP Certified member rank has a character approved for the World of Equestria roleplay section (which they can also use in CC), and has the ability to post in both the WoE and CC sections.

Q: Why can members with a WoE-approved character post in CC, but not the other way around?

A: World of Equestria has stricter rules than Canterlot Chronicles does, so WoE characters are approved on a stricter standard. This means that they can be used in CC, which has more relaxed rules and approves characters on more relaxed standards. It's kind of like how all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. All WoE characters are CC-approved, but not all CC characters are WoE-approved.

Q: How do I become helpstaff?

A: Sometimes when we find we need help, the administration will put out a call for applications. At that point, any registered member of Canterlot.com is welcome to follow the procedures laid out in the call for applications and apply to become a member of staff. Sometimes we're looking for RP Helpers and sometimes we're looking for Moderators. The call for applications will lay out which positions the administrators are looking to fill. Aside from that, if we feel a user properly exemplifies what a roleplay helper should be, we may extend an invitation to them to join staff. So, basically, even if we aren't accepting applications at a certain time, always be as helpful, friendly, and involved as you can, and you may still be considered to be added to the team.

Q: I've made changes to my character. Do I need to re-app them?

A: Ask yourself something first. Are the changes major? Do they change the core concept of the character? If the changes are as simple as adding a pet, changing an eye color, gaining a new occupation, or moving to a new city, then, no, you really don't need to. You can just edit the app and it won't have to be re-evaluated. If your character is growing through RP (for example, maybe they were really mean and insensitive before, as a plot hook for RPs, but as you've RP'd with them they've grown into a more understanding character), you can make note of that in your character log, rather than changing your application. If you want to change the core concept of the character, though, you will need to re-app it so the character can be re-evaluated by helpstaff.

Q: I need to re-app my character. How do I get it moved out of the Accepted Apps section?

A: Normally it's as simple as posting in the application thread to request that it be moved back. If nobody responds, though, you may need to send a polite message to a moderator or admin. They'll have the powers necessary to move your application.

Q: I think this FAQ list is missing something. What should I do?

A: Send me a message! I'm happy to hear all suggestions for what you, the people actually using this FAQ list, feel like I should add to it. I promise I don't bite. ;)

  4. Actually, the thread that Slazer linked is also for help in creating a character! We Welcome Wonderbolts are here to help with every step of the RP-joining process! If you still need help, I strongly encourage you to post in that thread, and a member of my team will be able to help you promptly!

Aside from that, welcome to Canterlot! We're happy to have you here, and we hope you settle in well!

  5. While that works a lot better, I have to say that including the ability being able to work on weak-minded ponies (unwilling ponies at all, i'm afraid) isn't really in the tone for WoE. You don't have to change the story of his discovery of his ability. Since the filly was already saying something, she was obviously willing to share it. Basically the ability, if I'm understanding you correctly, would allow Memory Lane to learn things that the spell's target isn't trying to hide.

That would be the only thing keeping me from passing it onto an SRPH at this point. Let me know if I'm wrong on my interpretation of your character or when you've changed that last bit! :)

  6. Hi there! I'm Ghost Girl, and I'm going to be your Spirit Guide*, but you can call me Ghostie.

What I see before me is a very, very well rounded character. Good job! He's interesting and unique without being obnoxious or stereotypical. I like it. There is one thing that I need to point out, however. I'm afraid that, for our board canon, the dragon-hatching test is unique to Twilight Sparkle's entrance exam. You'll need to remove that, but, quite frankly, I don't see you having a problem replacing it with something fitting.

I will point out that we usually do not allow orphan characters, but you've done an orphan character in a non-tragic way. An SRPH may have something different to say about it, but I personally feel like this character will fit into WoE.

The last thing I want to point out is that Memory Lane's particular magical talent feels a little... overpowered. The way you describe it in the character summary passes just fine for me, but the way he utilized it with discovering the filly's name before she even said it to him doesn't seem in line with your description of the spell. What I'm going to suggest is that you take that bit out, but perhaps replace it with something along the lines of... someone was telling him about themselves and he ended up guessing the end of the story nearly out of left field because of his talent. You aren't required to follow that particular suggestion by any means, but I don't think the original mention of it in his history will work.

Once you get these done, please post in this thread letting me know, and we can move on from there!

  7. Welcome, welcome, welcome! If you have absolutely any questions, feel free to ask! Since you're looking at jumping back into RP, be sure to check out the information in each of the application boards. It'll give you a great idea of what our different RP settings are like so you can make the best decision about which one you want to jump into first!

As for books, homigosh, what are your favorites? I've recently been given access to nearly all of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels and I'm tearing through them one after the other. They're just too good.

  8. We're glad to have you here! If you have absolutely any questions feel free to ask them!

Since you're interested in RPing here, make sure you check out the information for the World of Equestria and Canterlot Chronicles settings in their application boards. They'll give you a good idea of what each setting is like so you can decide which one is the best fit for you, and if you don't like either of them, there's always the Free-for-All section!

    Enjoy your stay! <3

  9. Welcome, Laurty! We're glad to have you here! As a staff member, I'm obligated to remind you to check out the rules before jumping too much farther into the site.

But now that the boring staff stuff is out of the way, I'm glad to hear you're interested in our RP! If you have absolutely any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM. As the Welcome Wonderbolt team leader, it's my job to help new users get settled into the site and our RP, if you want the help.

    Please enjoy your stay!

  10. We're happy to have you, Nice! As a staff member I'm obligated to remind you to check out the rules. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! And I've got a question of my own: What kind of RP environment are you looking to check out? We have three settings: World of Equestria (WoE) is the most canon and most slice of life oriented, Canterlot Chronicles (CC) breaks a bit more into adventure and survival type RPs and breaks away from canon a bit more, and Free-For-All (FFA) is open to whatever you want to do!

  11. Oh, that's great! It really does give us some good insight on her interactions with her brother. Thanks for fleshing that out a bit more!

On the note of punctuation and what not, I'm not too worried about that in apps. It takes time to master all the little technical points of writing, and making sure your character is well-developed is significantly more important. You can work on your punctuation and capitalization and whatnot as you go along.

All in all, I feel like this is ready to be bumped up to an SRPH! If they see anything they want you to fix, they'll let you know.

  12. Quicklime is correct. There are no open slots until I finish these five. I don't want to do rolling slots because I may easily become overwhelmed. I do work full time in a restaurant, and I have staff duties here, as well as playing an active role in many event groups in real life. If I take on too much request work (which is secondary to everything I just listed) I'll end up just dropping it all and ignoring this thread, which isn't fair to anyone. Please wait until I post again in this thread saying that it's open. Thank you!

  13. Hi! You already know me; I'm Ghostie. I'm gonna be your spirit guide!*

Okay, so basically what you've got here is a REALLY well rounded character. I'm not gonna lie, I'm really impressed. Your writing is a little rocky (you have some run-on sentences, some odd capitalization, and some missed punctuation), but it's not illegible and is easily overlooked because this is a really well-rounded character.

What I personally think does need to be worked on a little more is her history. What I see here is the opposite of what I see with most apps, amusingly. You've got Presteza's early life down pretty well pat, but her later years are lacking. We know she traveled with her brother, but what did they do while they were traveling? Are there any specific experiences that left a lasting impression on Presteza while she was with her brother? Where did they go? What did they do together to pass the time while they were walking? What places were their favorites? Of course, I'm asking these questions under the assumption that she was close with her brother. If she wasn't, give us something to make that clear. Did they fight while they traveled? Did she ever run off on her own?

Flesh that bit of her history out a bit more, post again in this thread to let me know you've done so, and we'll go from there! <3

    *Dio made me do it.

  14. I only recently answered this question. Before posting a question, please check through previous threads in this board to make sure you aren't asking the same question someone else has. Yes, your member title goes up with your post count. Right now, if I remember correctly, we don't have a Donation feature. Rosie and Dio are overhauling that system. Aside from post count, a mod or admin may decide to slap a custom member title on you, but that's up to their discretion. Don't bug them about it if you want one.

And, please, remember to check through the older questions before asking yours. I definitely answered this a day or two ago.

    Thank you! <3

  15. Yes, your member title will change based on your post count. There are some of us that mods and admins have decided to put custom member titles on, but the mods and admins do that at their own discretion Rosewind and Dio are especially fond of putting member titles on people. You never know when yours might change suddenly to something you weren't expecting!
