  1. "Cardamon. The next time I am out and about, I will be sure to aquire some if able. In return, I'd like for you to show me just how this stuff is made." Magic force's of nature. Bah! They think a forest with some toothy beasts is a force to be reckoned with? There are a million things on the sea that trump it both in size and magnitude. She'd like to see how this Aloe takes a true leviathan

Compass' ears perked at the sound of the bell, tensing up yet again but with the alertness of the damned. She has to remind herself this isn't a dangerous place, and breathed in the steamy air to calm her nerves. "You'd best attend to your next patron. I will be fine here, I believe." Soaking up humidity and moisture until she feels cooked alive. If that was the intention, then they were executing it well.

... Compass peered over towards the entrance, squinting to make out the new mare's features. A thestral, here? At these hours? This town is strange indeed.

  2. Rose pouted, looking down at her hooves. "Yes, yes they do."

Sighing, she looked back at the hoof on her back but didn't make any move to remove it. "It's just difficult finding the right dosage. It's so easy to accidentally kill them with the stuff- but in any case," her confidence swiftly returns, ears perking up above a small smile. "This is something I've been having trouble with."

Gesturing towards the featured specimens, she elaborated; "Axelotl's are hardy creatures. Perhaps too hardy. Studying their methods of regeneration have revealed that it's an immune response, of all things. Most animals just use it to fight off the common cold, these guys in particular-" She grabbed a spoon-like tool in her aura and tapped its case, provoking it into slashing at the glass. "-are able to use it to grow back their blades and appendages. but attempting to extract their essence and apply the same thing to... uh... " she coughs into a hoof, "other creatures, either results in the subject spontaneously gaining deadly and sharp accessories, or developing deadly cysts."

"Noots are a similar deal. The subject starts dooting as vocalizations or grows a malnourished copy of themselves. Not even practical for donor organs."

"As you've just seen, leap frogs have the uncanny ability to abuse the leap year, but their regenerative properties are confined to their immature stages. Luckily, tadpoles don't have legs, but when 'applied', only immature subjects seem to gain any benefits. While they do gain enhanced healing, it only affecting juveniles makes it inconvenient for public consumption if I tried selling it... although foals do get quite  a few scrapes and bruises." She seemed to ponder this last part, a hoof to her chin as she considered just such a thing.

  3. Rose chuckled, some of that nervousness creeping back in with a flick of her tail as she led him further into her den. Passed the front counter and into an L shaped corridor, they'd walk past a few closed (and locked) doors until they reach the end.

It bisected into two seperate rooms on either side, the wall between them decorated with a painting of a ship lost in a storm. She traced her horn down one of the arcs of tempestuous energy, and at its terminus there's a nearly inaubidle click, her horn briefly sparking with aqua colored magic.

Suddenly, the picture comes to life, the waves scrolling over the ship's groaning frame as if sampling its dinner, ready and eager to devour the wayward vessel.

"While minor, I've managed to connect two points in space using paintings as the focus." She looked back and smiled, "It's like unicorn teleportation, but the destination is already set for you. You just have to step in for it to work."

And she demonstrates as such, raising a hoof and dipping it into the animated image. It phases through, rippling like the surface of a disturbed pond. The rest of her body follows suit, her tail slurped up by the drink with a warbling sound.

If he was brave enough to tread those waters, he'd immidiately come out the other end. The scents that the foyer covered were unimpeded here, rancid and acidic, but not neccesarily harmful. The lab- for it could not be called anything else- was drawn straight from a witch's dream; two isles of tables, some metal and others wood, were lined up before a roaring hearth, a classic cauldron nestled on its throne of twigs and coal.

The tables were lined with projects in various stages of completion; beakers filled with red and opaque fluids, some viscous and others runny, funneled into taps that filled smaller vials. Measuring tools and arcane mediums were strewn about, and creatures large and small were contained inside see-through jars and tanks.

An axelotl with double the head-blades and extras of each limb scrambled feverishly within it's enclosure, its vocalizations contained within. A noot dooted its natural horn at what appeared to be its sickly clone, and a frog leapt into its glass wall and all but vanished before their very eyes.

"Joder!" To say Rose was alarmed by the development was an understatement. She rushed to the glass case and studied the hollow interior, raising the lid with sweat beads trickling down her brow. "LEAP FROGS! They're always abusing their power. I thought it was properly sedated... " Her ears flicked down, and her features wilted. "This is leap year, yes?"

Other, more mundane creatures were present on shelves and neglected desks, but most of them floated within preservative fluids, evidently expired.

  4. Rose listened carefully as Aloe defined each treatment and the mechanics behind them, ears perked in rapt attention as she silently followed along. "Hehe... I could have used that ash in my early life, and the other one to boot! Scrapes and bruises were pretty par for the course in my previous occupation- but thankfully, now the most dangerous things I have to deal with are the monsters living in the local forest.

Speaking of..." Her tone shifted, and a certain... Gleam entered her eyes, sharp as a knife's edge. "Why hasn't it been cleared out yet? I can undetstand wildlife preservation and faunistics, but some of the creatures lurking beyond that foliage can pose a serious danger to the laypony." Such as the land-leviathan, as she prefers to call it. A bunch of heads and the tendency to regenerate... wait.

Rose slowed to a near stop as she realized what the real prize is. Those creatures have the most extraordinary affinity for regeneration she's ever witnessed, she needs to collect a sample from IT if anything!

"Heh, Aloe, was it?" She said as she focused on the steamy room, instantly feeling a sheen of sweat begin to collect on her coat as she entered the humid chamber and graciously accepted the towel. "How much do you know about the local fauna, and is there anything in that forest that you particularly need?"

  5. Epponinne Mountains. She'll have to go there sometime, and perhaps become aquainted with this 'Ember' character. However, Aloe's... Description of its functionality left much to be questioned by the experienced alchemist, a frown slowly forming on her muzzle.

"Clay is a rock, but I'm not too sure if I want ash in my coat." Not that she couldn't get it out rather easily. "How would I get it out? And I don't recall the element aurum to possess any detoxifying agents... " Is she just not as experienced as she thought, or is this mare mincing words?

Shaking her head, she decided she might as well try. It seems she got lucky and was being offered the full experience first-hoof. She'd be a fool to decline a chance to study these things up close. "I digress. I would love to experience all your spa has to offer. Please, lead the way ~"

  6. Her ears perked up instantly at the mention of 'volcanic ash', seeming to shed coats of anxiety and replace it with an enthused interest. "Volcanic ash mudbath? How do you collect the ash, and what beneficial properties does this substance have when combined with mud?"

It was a curious thing, and Rose loved curious things. Ponyville also didn't appear to be built on a faultline, so how did they have a hot spring? Was it artificially created? If so, how? So many questions, so few answers! The mare radiates an aura of inquisitiveness, a small booklet flying out her packs, accompanied by its faithful companion, the mighty pen.

"I would also like to inquire as to how you operate a hot spring away from any natural fault lines... If you don't mind my inquiry, of course." She paused, looking at Aloe expectantly.

  7. Rose's head shot up as the previously unseen mare spoke up, eyes wide and posture just a bit too stiff as she repeated "treatment?" She then shook her head, remembering what these ponies were.

Right, treatment as in treating her nerves. Of which she had plenty of.

She deflated after a long sigh, her mane frazzled after so much time outside in the woods. "Oh, yes, I am. Uhm... " She looked around, finally taking note of the depictions detailing their various services. All of them seemed to involve the mare's getting hoovesy, and that ironically just made her tense up more than last time- but with another sigh, she gave the pink mare a wavering smile. "What all is included in the basic treatment? I'm kind of new here... And new to spa's."

She quickly placed the vials back in her bags before closing it up.

  8. Rose tittered, but lead the way regardless. Time to see if today is the day she gets evicted...

    ---

A relatively long walk later, most of it filled with smalltalk- "So where are you from?", "Why'd you become a teacher?", And "What are your thoughts on cheese?"- And the two 'ponies' arrive at a charitably homey establishment/abode. A large phosphorescent sign in fancy script proclaims the place as "Rose Compass' Cure-All's and Curios!"

She opened the door for him when they arrived, the design simple but efficient- "After you ~" -and followed behind if he accepted the courtesy.

Inside, a strange but invariably "clean" aroma would permeate the air, covering up something floating just under the surface. It wasn't toxic... Per se... But she didn't want anyone thinking there was much beyond the foyer. Speaking of, just about every solid surface in the appropriately storefront-sized room was covered in bottles, vials, and jars of varying sizes. Some gave off a gentle glow, some gave off a glow slightly more concerning, and one single bottle tucked away in the corner of a top shelf was somehow plaid

"I don't suppose you ever wanted a potion that swaps your mane and coat colors?"

  9. Oh, she knew exactly how black her soul could become. It was that selfsame mare that had become so consumed by her quest that produced her from dust and delirium. She gained a far-off look for a moment as she recalled the exact moment she awakened; it was in a dimly lit room, the walls swallowed by darkness as the stench of spent magic and chemicals burned the air, setting her senses on fire as if she had been submerged in acid.

Her emergence into the world was anguish, but her banishment from it was redemption.

She will not become that shadow of a mare.

"Yes," she said slowly, returning to reality. "Although I must warn you, my work isn't always a pretty sight."

Rustling around in her bags, Dox would be able to glimpse a varied assortment of filled vials and pouches before she withdrew a small but compact booklet. Its title read Libro de Transformaciones.

She held the booklet out to him expectantly. "In the meantime, I've transcribed a number of fruitful recipes in this. It's... Uh... In my native tongue, though, so you may not be able to read it."

  10. Regeneration. It was regeneration, it had to be! The key, the cornerstone- the door!

Rose Compass narrowly avoids needing a new nose, so lost in thought was the anxious mare. Backing up a step and jingling the everpresent bags on her hips that mark her as a medicine mare, she properly opens the door to the... Spa. Right, a spa. She'd heard of those back in Andalusia; a place to relaxation, using a range of aromatherapies and other such strange but effective tricks.

If she was being honest with herself, she was less curious of what they did, and more curious how they did it. She supposed she'd find out soon enough as she entered the establishment.

"Hello?" She called our in her foreign cadence, surveying the area with a passing glance. Like every other sugarcoated building in this strange town, this place exuded an aura of cartoonish joy, albeit of a muted degree compares to, say, Sugarcube Corner.

She'd set her packs down by her side as she waited to be attended, idly taking count of her tools and jars. Regeneration... she'd pick out three jars in particular, all of them labeled with a sticker, but one of them empty.

Axelotl dust: a dark iron-colored powder made from the blade of an axelotl stirred in its encasing. She nearly lost a limb trying to get this stuff.

Noot horn: a small tuba shaped horn. She shivered thinking about what it was attached to.

Leap frog extract: empty. She had yet to find any leap frogs, and she was beginning to question if she even needed to now that she had found the former two regeants. But her research must be complete before trials can begin, so she needs to find one... And soon.

  11. His cordial attitude did wonders for her nerves, the green mare visibly relaxing as he shook her hoof. "Oh, well, I heard you were a teacher." She shimmied her hips, causing her packs to rattle with the sound of miscellaneous alchemical tools. "I'm an alchemist, but my research has reached a plateau as of late. I was hoping, perhaps, you may allow me to reach further."

Her tone shifted, and her expression suddenly became much more serious. "... To cure this plague called mortality."

  12. He wouldn't have to look very long for a student; as he loitered in the library, pouring over his bibliography, a particularly curious- and meek- unicorn mare would poke her head around the corner of a bookshelf. She had just spent the last fifteen minutes wandering aimlessly through the isles of shelves- occasionally getting distracted by a title or cover that caught her eye- and was about ready to ask the librarian where she could find this pony when she happened upon him.

In hindsight, perhaps she should have lead with inquiring the librarian. It would have saved them both a fair bit of time.

"Oh! Hello there." She properly stepped into view following this greeting, awkwardly rubbing her foreleg as she surveyed his reading area, her mind already picking out details here and there and steering her train of thought clear off the tracks before she caught herself with a start. "Uh, I... Was looking for a Mr. Star? Here. I mean, I suspect that might be you, but incase it's not I thought he may be here, somewhere-"

She cut herself off, eyes wide and more than a little nervous. "Heh-Anyway, I'm Rose Compass. Nice to meet you!" She thrusts a hoof forward in greeting, her smile just a tad too wide.

  13. Rose had to admit, as she cantered at a steady pace towards her scholastic destination, that she had more than a few butterflies flocking around in her tummy. The weight of stuffed saddlebags softly thumping against her flanks were little comfort compared to the veritable well of anxiety threatening to spill over inside of her.

She'd heard this Mister Star was a very talented and enthusiastic teacher, but considering she had never even participated in primary school- and was entirely self-taught- she had, regrettably, very little experience interacting with such ponies. A true irony considering the occupation her original now possessed.

Regardless, she knew that If she wanted to advance her research into mortality any further than basic observation and resources would allow, she would need to consult this pony and absorb his teachings. She had much to learn, but also much to exchange for such knowledge. The weight of her Índice de flora y fauna Equestrian was particularly comforting in this regard, the relatively light index including notes from her homeland as well. She had yet to seperate them due to time constraints, but she'd get to that in time.

  14. Well... While I can edit it, the original Rose's story is very long and complicated. She has her own story, just not one that's easy or quick to summarize. And yes, Rose's cutie mark belongs to her favored disguise, although... You know, maybe I should just add more to the description.

Where would I add that stuff, though?

    • Knowledge on witchcraft- traditional witch

    • knowledge on medicine and herbal remedies- Apothecary

    • Limited knowledge on necromancy- Amatuer necromancer.

    • Experienced seafarer. Knows her way around a ship and sea, as well as using star charters and wind direction to navigate.

A clone or not, Rose Compass still belongs to the same genus as the being she was derived from: Andalusian changelings.

Andalusia is a Spaneigsh region bordering the sea, ruled by Queen Moor. Changelings from this region have adopted a predilection towards marine life, and in their natural forms sport sleeker bodies compared to their mainland cousins. They sport long, fin-like protrusions along the back of their head and tail, and have smaller fangs suited more for catching fish or delivering precision strikes vs. raw damage output.

Andalusian queens do not spawn hives, but instead give birth to broodlings. While more limited in number, broodlings are more intelligent and specialized, outclassing any common drone.

History: Rose Compass, the first one, would not die. Anybody who's tested her mortality could testify to that if they were still around. Part of the reason for this isn't neccesarily because she's hard to kill, it's because she's a mare of contingencies. From lichdom to phoenix rites, to simple charms and enchantments that thicken skin and lengthen longetivity, Rose refuses to depart this mortal coil before her work is done.

one such experiment happened to include clones. They were a constant, a blank copy meant to house her consciousness if all else fails. However, they had the most peculiar habit of developing independent awareness, something that undermined their purpose.

Rejected as a failed experiment by her creator, one such clone was stripped of her experiences and cast away from her native realm to end up in a land that was at once familiar, yet alien in every way.

alone, she braved forest and thicket, using her botanical knowledge to fend off predators and draw sustenance from the local fauna. In time, she came upon civilization. Finally, ponies! She was so hungry by then, and eager to leave her isolation behind her.

ever since then, she's eeked out a meager living selling drugs and potions to those in need, and occasionally playing at both witch and doctor to heal the sick and men's the wounded. This is when a spark lit up inside of her, a spark that was quintessential to her nature: the spark of life, and the determination to sustain it at all costs.

she would NOT allow her loved ones to slip away as her original failed to do. She would scour and plunder mother nature itself for the secrets to immortality that the world so seemed to hoard for itself.

Character Personality: Just, friendly, and motivated. Perhaps appearing rather average on the surface, she still betrays a borderline predatory intelligence in her speech and mannerisms.
Character Summary: Rose Compass is a far cry from the terrible glory of the creature she was based on, but perhaps that isn't a bad thing? Perhaps it's for the better, in fact, as she has a chance to do what the real Rose could never do: find happiness.

the real Rose is a tragic figure, plagued by grief and consumed by a hunger for justice against Death itself. But Compass can do better. She can save them... And save them she will.

Love Life: After a chance encounter with a particular spa pony, Rose has started a new family, in a new place. Three broodlings, and two pony foals: Albedo, Rubedo, and Nigredo... The foals are still on the way. It's often that Rose spends as much time as she can with her love.

Professional Life: Obviously, a 'pony' who wants to change the world will need connections, and she's made quite a few since her arrival.
S.T.A.R.: After encountering Ice Wind at a party, the unicorn approaches Rose in her shop asking for her help infusing rings with love. After this, Rose manages to convince her to circulate her completed regeneration potion as part of an effort to help ponies who have lost limbs.

Hou: Having first met the pony indirectly through a simulacrum, Hou came off as rather hostile... But over time, she has been a font of wisdom helping guide Rose down the right path. Rose often contacts her (And Dox) with new developments in her own research, including a particular autonomous spell.

  16. Wow, this place looks identical to MLP Forums.

Heya, guys! I'm Aisede, the one and only. I've been roleplaying since around 2015, and have loved ponies and the Fandom ever since I found Fimfiction so long ago.

I used to only roleplay on Discord, but because of some... Complications, I've been forced to branch out to find what I'm looking for. Anybody here able to sympathize?

Anyway, hopefully I can find some adv. Lit RPers here. If anybody could help a bro out, that would be much appreciated ~
