  1. As the light of the sun broke over the horizon of the Nimbusgait Lakes, a light orange kelpie ghosted across the surface of the great lakes. His very lightly striped shark tail propelled him forward, transporting him to his destination of the day. It had been rather difficult to negotiate awakening from himself that morning, making the kelpie still rather groggy. Luckily for him, few creatures were out on the lake this early in the day. It was rather unlikely for him to collide with anything in the waters. He enjoyed the quiet at times, but he much preferred it when the air was filled with laughter. After all, he had devoted his life's work to such a pursuit.

As he approached the edge of the lake, the sun began to climb higher in the skies. Hopefully, he would find a customer on this day. Business had been rather slow lately, as the majority of ponies who lived in the vicinity of Nimbusgait were water-based like himself. However, the stallion had a good feeling about today. His hunches were not to be relied upon too devoutly, but he could be right once in a while. Taking a deep breath, he dove down into the waters of the lake once more, locating the wooden trapdoor that led to the inside of his little shop.

Opening it with a hoof and slipping inside, she followed the wooden tunnel to its end on that surface of the lakes. His shop was built at the very edge of the lake, with the counter space being the only area that was above the water. The counter was more of an enclosure of water, allowing the kelpie to serve his customers as well as stay in the lovely waters. He placed his hooves on the wooden panels that made up the counter, tail moving back and forth lazily to keep him afloat. He pulled on a nearby string, causing the sign outside to change from Closed to Open. The other string that he held was the activator for a simple and effective, if rather juvenile prank. A bucket of lakewater hung precariously above the entrance to the shop, with the string attached to the board which held it aloft. He waited with a smile, eager to discover who would be walking into his shop today.

  2. Your avatar is so swirly. 0.o

Anyways, welcome to Canterlot! I'm sure you'll have fun here. Since you serached for "MLP RP", I'm assuming you'll be joining us in the World of Equestria at some point. I'll look forward to seeing you there. :D

  3. "Quite so," Flux replied, taking the proffered hoof. She regained her balance, having swayed slightly during her return to an upright position. Even as she agreed to Colton's statement and their battle of snow ended, one fact still pulled insistently at her mind. For what reason did such a juvenile activity seem so enjoyable? You have never even liked snow or this day of hearts and hooves. Of course, another thought sprung up at the mention of 'hearts'. Why in the name of Celestia are hearts even considered romantic? Has anypony even seen them? They're not particularly charming. With an internal hiss that reminded her to stay on topic, the mare considered the idea.

However, the sudden appearance of Colton's voice brought her thoughts to a reeling halt. She turned toward him, confusion her expression. As he explained his intent, she stood still, allowing the pegasus to brush aside the dead leaf. The idea of a leaf in winter of course piqued a possibility within her scientific mind, but the slight tinge of red that coloured the unicorn's muzzle lightened the desire to rush inside and try to find some way to create winter leaves or such without magic. She wasn't exactly used to having anypony quite so close to her. However, any sort of nervousness in the unicorn was swept away with Colton's rather unexpected kiss.

Her mind was simultaneously frozen and pulling at several different directions. Once again, it seemed, a pony faced the war between head and heart. Now was not the time for such conflict, however, and Flux merely closed her eyes and just left her constantly logical mind to puzzle itself out. She merely ejoyed the company of the pegasus and the odd sparkle of the kiss. Her rather 'head-in-the-clouds'-like state was only broken with an amused chuckle in the back of her mind, Flux found the strange way that this one pegasus managed to make her enjoy a day that was symbolized by rather unattractive organs of all things to be quite the mystery.

Tesla was on quite the other side of this hearts and hooves matter at the moment. Though he was quite pleased that he and the sparrow had managed to find the correct shop, the amount of ponies who trailed out the door was staggering. Holidays in general caused such a stir, one that usually woke the ferret from his lovely slumber. He watched the bird end up face-to-glass with the shop, nearly doing a face-to-object himself out of exasperation. Nonetheless, his cunning little mind had already gotten an idea. He scampered to the bird, a grin on his face. His plan was conveyed wordlessly, giving the idea that their beaked friend could put that to go use. All that Tesla suggested was that Sparks and glass have a bit of a disagreement, which seemed like a fair request to the ferret who could put his feet back the entire time.

  4. The purple mare also felt rather elated at their mutual revelations. It was quite a wonderful feeling, successfully help to boost the spirits of a fellow pony. Though she hadn't expected anything like this to occur, this chance meeting had been somewhat of a catalyst for the former singer. She had to put the past behind her and accept that she would never regain that life. If she dwelt in the past, happiness in the future could not be attained. Though it was admittedly a tad cliche, there is truth even in tried-and-true lessons. Wrong Note grinned at the colt, glad to see his chin up and that confidence she had so often seen in herself as a younger pony. Perhaps it was time for her to regain that unfaltering self-confidence. As he began to trot back toward the main events of the party, Wrong Note put on her least discordant signing voice to bid him farewell.

    "Indeed my young colt,

I am glad to see we have both been struck with a bolt.

I do hope to see you once more,

Perhaps in a year, perhaps in four.

Either way, it was a pleasure to meet you,

and I certainly owe you, too."

Gathering up her shawl and taking once last look at the hauntingly beautiful beach and the alluring party. With her last note sung, she trotted back toward the ferrypony, headed back to her home once more.

  5. Roleplay Type: Mane RP

    Name: Dazzle Dreams

    Sex: Female

    Age: Mare

    Species: Unicorn

    Eye Color: Lime green (#00FF00)

    Coat Color: Light pink (#E75480)

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Her mane is generally worn parted to either side of her head. Both her mane and tail are purple. (#B666D2)

Physique: She has a wiry frame, as she is a singer.

    Cutie Mark: A microphone stand

    Origin/Residence: Manehatten

Occupation: Lounge singer and occasional songwriter, owner of the Dream Denouement, models on an irregular basis

Motivation: To find the perfect song

Likes: Calm and quiet, nighttime, subdued colours

Dislikes: Loud party atmospheres, particularly bright things, clashing colours

Character Summary: Dazzle was born to a pair of musical ponies named Sea Shanty and Elegant Elegy. She was raised on music, finding it to be as essential to her as wings to a pegasus. It was as though song ran through her veins. However, each and every musical instrument she tried did not bring her a cutie mark. Her parents insisted that it would not upset them if she didn't end up a musician, but Dazzle knew that music was her calling. She couldn't let up on her pursuit.

So, she studied and practised for much of her foalhood. Her schoolwork somewhat suffered from her constant practising, but she was still able to complete her primary education. In fact, it was on her last day of attendance that she earned her cutie mark. It was the night of the school's musical performance to a large percentage of the parents of students and Dazzle had entered on the insistence of her friend, Celia. Nervous butterflies in full flight, she stepped out onto the stage to attempt the only form of music she hadn't yet tried, singing. With surprise, the young filly found herself with a standing ovation from the crowd and a cutie mark to boot at the conclusion of her performance.

Though her special talent is more songwriting and performing in general, it was the singing aspect of her ability that she hung onto. Throughout her fillyhood and early mare years, she assisted her mother and father with the running of the family business, the Dream Denouement for which she had partially been named. It was when her mother and father retired from showlife that she took over ownership of the establishment.

Her popularity is high within musical circle, but she is not a household name like other musicians such as Sapphire Shores would be. However, her motivation is not the pursuit of fame but rather finding the perfect song. For Dazzle Dreams had sung many pieces of music in her time, from bubbly pop songs to slow waltz-like tunes, but she had still not found what she believed to be the perfect song. So, she searches for this elusive song in between her work as a singer.

Dazzle is actual a rather shy and quiet mare outside of her musical career and prefers to blend into the background rather than stick out. She tends to be a bit overcritical of other ponies' behaviour if she doesn't agree with it, but otherwise she keeps her opinions a mystery. Dazzle is also a perfectionist and appreciator of fashion, leading her to work in the world of fashion on scattered occasions. However, her stage persona is much more bold and elegant, much like her mother was. She learned that a pony never gets anywhere in life without putting down their hoof from time to time and modelled her public persona after both her mother and father.

  6. Roleplay Type: Crossover/FFA

    Name: Gemini

    Sex: Female

    Age: Mare

    Species: Earth Pony

    Eye Color: Bubbly blue (#4FD5D6)

    Coat Color: Light brown (#7B4A12)

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Her mane is generally worn styled into curls atop her head, with a small overhang forming bangs. Both her mane and tail are a light yellow (#FFFF00).

Physique: Lean, as she tends to eat light.

Cutie Mark: The zodiac symbol of Gemini

    Origin/Residence: Ponyville

    Occupation: Former actress

Motivation: To return to her acting career

Likes: The number 2, bright colours, attention

Dislikes: Lack of symmetry, darkness, being ignored or dismissed

Character Summary: Gemini was born in Ponyville to Dazzle Dreams and Drippy Dock, her adoring parents. As a foal, she was doted on by her mother and father, every whim satisfied and more. Unsurprisingly, this caused her to develop a rather high and mighty attitude, becoming much like a popular foal at school. Other foals gravitated toward her, always wanting to catch a glimpse of the amazing Gemini.

Earning her cutie mark was an easy task, discovering her talent at the Ponyville Talent Show. During her performance of the famous play Harmonia, an ancient symbol of Gemini appeared on her flank. Her cute-ceañera was a spectacle in Ponyville, funded by her mother's rather successful singing career. However, the cutie mark was a rather cryptic sign.

She travelled all over Equestria as an actress, even opening at the Canterlot Theatre at the height of her career. Unfortunately, it was around same time that she suffered a stress-related breakdown. In order to recover and take a break from her intensive career, she returned to her quiet hometown. With daily visits to Dr. Septic, she is recuperating.

Her breakdown had given rise to two opposing sides of her personality that rise up rather suddenly. One is a bubbly and innocently foal-like personality. This is the prevalent side, one that still is overshadowed by her original fashionista persona. Her other side is a much darker personality, one that is quick to lash out and mocks any situation. This is an extrapolated version of her stuck-up personality that was nurtured by her foalhood. She tries to keep these alternating sides of her under the surface, but they tend to slip out during periods of high stress and emotional situations.

  7. Flux watched Colton's attempt at a flight around her barrier, aiming a couple good shots at the pegasus. Of course, only a few of them actually made contact with her sparring partner, but they still managed to get the pegasus to resume his earthbound position. She had the advantage of magic, which made aiming and firing quite a bit easier for the unicorn than for her pegasus opponent. She continued to fire the little spheres of snow, until Colton find his own protective barrier in the form of a natural snowbank. She ceased her launch of snowballs, curiously awaiting his next move.

When she saw the slightest sign of a familiar blue mane, she let fly the snowball which she had held back, managing to both contact Colton and make him drop his own projectile. She grinned, having far too much fun with such a juvenile game. Even as a foal, she had never participated in such things, as she had science to pursue. The spirit of the holidays, she recalled, her smile only widening. However, her reminiscing had caused her to forget her snow-based battle and she was quite surprised when a white pegasus came crashing through her snow wall. The two tumbled backward, landing stomach upward beside one another.

The two shared a look of concern, each ensuring that the other had suffered no injuries in the tumble. When their health had been confirmed, Colton began to laugh. The snow unicorn couldn't help a somewhat goofy smile from showing upon her own muzzle at what had just occurred. The pegasus and unicorn lay in the snow, coats matching its colour almost perfectly and laughing for the next few minutes. Flux enjoyed the release of energy and happiness, just enjoying spending time with Colton. She quickly faced him, turning away from the sky. "I suppose you are the victor then, Colton." She smiled, laughter dying down slightly as she listened for his response.

Tesla was alerted to the landing of the snowball when a few stray flecks of snow fell on his fur. Shaking the white specks from the brown, he turned back to find his sparrow companion head-deep in a pile of snow. With a sigh, he extended his paw toward the bird, foot tapping slightly as he counted the minutes. Canterlot was becoming busier by the second and it would be increasingly difficult to find their destination when more ponies crowded the streets.

  8. See, now you make me want to not only make a Diamond Dog (of which there are only three or four) but also now a kelpie/hippocamp (of which there appears to be exactly one).

Confound these threads! They drive me to have multiple personality disorder!

    I try. ;)

I must admit it is sort of strange how the water ponies and diamond dogs, who are the least explored races and thus ones where you have the most freedom to experiment, have the least amount of people apping as them. I guess its a bit intimidating to make a creature based on little or no canonical knowledge, but still, it came as a surprise to me. Perhaps we need to make them more active in the RP, guys. *nudges RP grouped users with fishie OCs*

  9. As I was apping for my Kelpie OC, I noticed that most of our Hippocamp and Kelpie characters aren't particularly active in the Mane RP.

So, I was thinking that, like the recent foals OOC topic, we should try to organize some threads that could make use of our fishy friends. I don't have any particularly good ideas for the threads at the moment, so be sure to give some suggestions and such.

Let's get our fishies back in action!

  10. Wrong Note returned his smile, glad that Survey had decided to follow through on his plan to model in the Ponywalk. It reminded the mare of her own ambitions as a filly, but also reminded her of her fall from fame. It was a mixed feeling, one of both acceptance and loss. However, the past was the past. The former singing sensation could no longer live in a time that she could no longer affect.

Her past was not particularly happy, but she had to move on from that one turning point in her life. The future is what really mattered now, just as it would for this colt. Though the past shaped a pony and one shouldn't forget it, the future is a chance to apply what you learned in the past and shape yourself for the time to come. The purple pony breathed in the ocean's satly scent and felt as though this chance meeting had revealed something to her. It felt odd for the mare to give advice, but she felt as though she should give him some of the realization that he had helped her discover.

"I am glad that you have made you choice,

and that i could help you with finding this voice.

You have helped me as well,

to discover that I need no dwell.

    Thank you, young colt,

for giving me this mental jolt.

    Don't let anypony sway you,

and let your true thoughts shine through."

  11. The unicorn quickly manipulated the snow around her into a curved barrier, serving as a blockade against Colton's rather well aimed snowballs. It created a small patch of grass in the same shape, marking the area that Flux had taken the snow from. Though she knew it was mostly using her own magical skills to her advantage, Colton had wings and so still had a way to evade her barrier. She launched a few more snowballs over the top of her barricade, a couple of giddy laughs still audible from the mare.

She found it strange that at no other time was she so content with the world at large. Even her constant curiousity was silenced by her time with Colton. It was still a percuiliar feeling, one that continued to elude the unicorn's full understanding. That was why this Hearts & Hooves Day had struck her as a chance for study of this idea. Perhaps through experiencing it herself, she could finally pin down what it was. Unfortunately, the unicorn got a faceful of snow for her idle thinking. Shaking off the snow, she re-engaged her 'enemy', not really trying particularly hard to become the victor of their little snow battle.

Tesla weaved through the streets much more slowly than he would have ordinarily done. He did need to be certain that he wouldn't lose the sparrow in the droves of Hearts & Hooves celebrants. So, he took a slower pace as he lead the sparrow, his little ferret mind trying to recall the best jeweler in Canterlot. Those in the business of accessories and chocolate were booming with buiness around the time of the holiday and so, finding a location that wouldn't be swamped with ponies would be a difficult task indeed. At each one they passed, the ferret saw pairs of hooves that led outside the doors of the shops. With a smirk, he reminded himself that he was luck not to be in the position of those shop owners. However, he continued on, oddly invested in Sparks' search for Colton's present.

  12. Roleplay Type: Mane RP

    Name: Jack O'Lantern

    Sex: Male

    Age: Young Stallion

    Species: Kelpie

    Eye Color: Sea blue (#008C9E)

    Coat Color: Soft orange (#FF7E47)

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: His mane is generally unstyled and matches his eyes in colour. However, he leaves it at a long length and occasionally strands of kelp will be entwined with it after a swim. His tail is that of a shark: powerful, but streamlined.

Physique: Not particularly athletic, but aerodynamic enough to swim without impediment.

Cutie Mark: A carved face on a jack o' lantern.

Origin/Residence: He grew up in the Kelpie City located near the Gallapocus Islands. As a stallion, he has relocated to a small town in the depths of the Great Nimbusgait Lakes

Occupation: Jack O'Lantern runs a joke item shop on the very edge of the Nimbusgait Lakes.

Motivation: To bring fright-based giggles to all of Equestria

Likes: Nightmare Night, Scaring ponies, bad puns

Dislikes: Taking a joke too far, overly-serious ponies, being treated as childish

Character Summary: During his childhood, Jack O'Lantern had always shown a bit more than the natural mischievousness of the kelpies. He would always pull jokes on his friends, giving everypony a good laugh when they recovered from the initial shock of the prank. However, as much as he enjoyed his pranks, the young kelpie always felt as though there was something missing from his antics. The one thing that would make them perfect in his eyes.

It was during the Nightmare Night celebrations that he realized what that component was. He had volunteered to be a part of the committee organizing the event and he took it as a perfect opportunity to place pranks around the festival grounds. In the spirit of the night of frights, he added some frightening aspects to his pranks. A manticore-like roar, a cockatrice shadow, Nightmare Moon, everything he could thing of.

As he watched his pranks in action, the then-colt realized what he had been missing during that time: a bit of a fright. And so, Jack O'Lantern earned his cutie mark. When he did so, he told his parents that he wanted to move to the Heartland of Equestria to open a joke shop. As they had visited Equestria before, they reluctantly agreed, reminding their son to be on his best behaviour around land ponies. Though he couldn't promise it, he did agree to make an effort on such things. So, when he reached stallionhood, Jack O'Lantern travelled to the Nimbusgait Lakes and set up his joke shop.

As a foal, Jack O'Lantern never particularly cared for the finer points of etiquette. However, even as a stallion, he maintains that such things are far too boring and would rather to play pranks rather than dot his 'I's and cross his 'T's. Though he may act rowdy around his friends, he can be rather philosophical when he is in a quiet mood.

He is very aware of the fact that not everypony likes being scared and so he is very conscious of ensuring that none of his pranks go too far. He isn't afraid to put his hoof down when he sees somepony being treated unfairly and will immediately try to fix any damage his own jokes may have done. Jack O'Lantern works very hard to be sure that his talent doesn't hurt somepony, only gives them a laugh.

Even though it's not his special talent, he does incorporate his pranking skills into creating jokes and visiting sad ponies to cheer them up. He's always cheerful and loves to talk about his latest prank. If he meets anypony who shares his enthusiasm, he'll quickly devise a double prank for the two to pull off. As a stallion, but still a young one, he is a bit immature and doesn't like to be too serious about life in general.

  13. Flux laughed quietly at Colton's suggestion. "Such a day filled with rememberance we're having." It was interesting that they were going to be frequenting two nostalgic locations in one day, but the unicorn didn't mind. They were good memories that would be recalled and even the strictly logical side of the scientist couldn't argue with the joy of reliving a time filled with joy. "That sounds like a wonderful idea," she said, making her agreement with the pegasus clear. "We should make haste, however. It is likely to be a busy day in Canterlot."

The unicorn took in a refreshing breath of the chilly air that the day provided, just relishing in the moment while it lasted. She remembered a quote that she couldn't quite attribute, 'It's truly the small things in life that bring the most joy.' After a moment or two of silence, she took her weight back onto her own two hooves, moving away from Colton as she stood upright. She took a few steps forward before turning back to the white pegasus. "Shall we go?" However, as she asked, the surrounding snow caught the eye of the mare and sparked a small idea. Though it was a rather strange suggestion from the unicorn's perspective, she couldn't help but feel in a whimsical mood with the spirit of the holidays. With a silly little smile as her only warning to Colton, she gathered up a clump of snow up in a green aura and launched it toward the pegasus. "I suppose we have a bit of time, that is, if you're up to the challenge," she laughed.

Tesla watched the bird's explanation with interest, his curiousity finally satisfied. He remembered that the bird and his master were not Canterlot native, so they would have little idea where the various shops in Canterlot were located. Even the ferret had a much more varied knowledge of the city than that of his owner, as he spent much more time roaming its streets. With a roll of the eyes, he returned a series of gestures that communicated a willingness to help him find the right sop. He also agreed not to mention Colton's laspe of memory to Flux, though he did have half a mind to do so. The ferret turned toward the north end on Canterlot and stepped a few paces forward, checking behind him to be sure that the bird had gotten his message.

  14. I had hoped I wouldn't need to use this thread, but it seems that I do.

This isn't so much an absence as it is a decrease in activity, but it may well end up being an absense. My computer's OS is stored on a SSD. Unfortunately, it seems that the SSD has decided to break itself and, though my regular hardrive with actual files and such is fine, I can't start my computer with an OS. So, I've been grabbing as much time on my family's assorted computers as I can, but they've all got stuff they need to do as well. My replacement drive won't be arriving until the end of the week or so, meaning this will be a fairly long bit of time. However, after that, it'll be business as usual.

So, my apologies to anypony who I was RPing with, but I shant vanish from the boards entirely. :)

  15. Flux trotted outside, saying with only a hint of teasing, "How gallant, Mr. Cloudkicker." Inwardly, she chided, How sappy. Honestly, you aren't some gooey-eyed filly. However, Flux dismissed the voice and drew the warmers that matched the red dress closer to herself as the chill of winter nipped at her coat. Then, she waited for Colton to close the door and enter the white expanse himself. Hearing the familiar 'click' of closing behind her, the unicorn walked slowly beside Colton. Though it sounded immensely cheesy and she would never admit it to herself, the unicorn wanted to spend as much time with her special somepony as possible, and not just because of social protocol on these matters.

She also remembered the Garden with stunning clarity, memories coming back quickly the more she thought about their destination. It was strange how she remembered it clear as day, especially when her memory of events was not the best of her traits. Nonetheless, Colton's words brought her back to the current time. "Oh...uh...not at all. That sounds quite lovely." She smiled at Colton, leaning slightly into the similarly snow-coloured coat of her pegasus. Sappy, sappy~, sing-songed that frustrating mental voice. She merely viewed her actions as getting into the spirit of the holiday. After all, she didn't want her Hearts & Hooves Day with Colton to be disappointing to the pegasus. "Did you have anywhere in mind?" she asked. Flux wasn't in any particular hurry on this particular day. A chemical dissection of love poison could wait until tomorrow.

Tesla, on the other hand, had no time to waste in following Sparks. It was an arduous task, since the streets of Canterlot were not the best place for a ferret to travel. So, he stuck to the tops of buildings and the spaces between roofs and exterior walling. There was no way her was going to lose sight of the sparrow until he knew what was going on. Turning a corner from which he had caught a glimpse of familiar plumage, Tesla stood face to face with a bird. He looked impatiently at the avian, non-verbally asking for an explanation to his strange behaviour.

  16. Flux noticed Chillwind's movement and his searching eyes motions as she passed him. She inclined her head toward him slightly, giving her silent thanks for his willingness to help. The unicorn wasn't particularly surprised that Tesla had wandered off, as he was wont to do, but in time that he had chosen was the element that puzzled her. A nocturnal hunter like Tesla would have no reason to bother himself with much activity during hours of light. In Tesla's case, this was why he tended to be rather cranky and disagreeable whilst ponies went about their business. A ferret as lazy as Tesla would have a very good reason to subject himself to any sort of excessive movement.

She continued retracing her steps, glancing through the spaces in bookshelves to check for the brown body of her pet. The unicorn was so determined in her searching that she almost didn't hear Inkblot's words. "No need to ask forgiveness," she said immediately. "Nopony short of one bearing precognition could have anticipated such as thing. Do not blame yourself on this matter. The two are surely in no danger" Though she was reassuring Inkblot, the words her also directed at her growing concern about the events that had transpired. However, as she had no luck in the search so far, she called over to the two pegasi who searched in separate corner's of the bookshop. "Have you two discovered anything yet?"

  17. Flux blushed slightly at Colon's wide-eyed look. She had settled on a light red dress that bordered between pink and its darker counterpart. It was an older gift from her mother with the intention of her wearing it to some sort of charity dinner for the Astronomy Board that her mother was a part of. The unicorn had ended up staying late at the Library to research current griffon steam technology and the dress had been left in the dark recesses of the clock tower's basement. It seemed that today was the day that her mother's gift would get its day in the limelight. The unicorn hated dressing up, but she had done so regardless. After all, a repeatedly burned lab coat wasn't very seemly for pleasant company.

She considered Colton's question, a list of all the locales in Canterlot running through her mind. There were so many possibilities for a destination that would be fitting for the holiday, but one stuck out in her mind. The Gardens of Canterlot Castle. It was located near the hedge maze, where she and Colton had shared that amazing flight and she knew that flowers and meaningful locations were traditional to the Hearts & Hooves Day customs. Combining the two seemed like sovling two forumlas in one calculation. "Well, I was thinking of the Canterlot Gardens. They are on the Castle Grounds, but the Princess opens them each year for the Hearts & Hooves Day festivities. Would that be agreeable?"

Outside, the ferret was following the movements of the sparrow above. He lept from perch to perch on lampposts and tree branches. Tesla's interest had been piqued by the separation of the bird and his master and the ferret would not let his curiosity go unanswered. So, he continued after Sparks, hoping to learn what the bird's destination would in the end be.

  18. Flux looked up from her neatly stacked books with a surprised "Huh?" She looked around her in a wide circle, finding no sign of her ferret or the raven. Her first instinct was worry. Smaller mammals didn't usually get along very well with large birds, and Tesla was sarcastic enough to be aggravating even to the tamest of avians. However, she also knew that Tesla could handle himself, after all he did so each night he went out into the trees beyond the clock tower. Still, she would need to find the ferret before leaving. "Not to worry, I believe you are right. Perhaps I should retrace my path; that should give us some clue to where they have gone." Stepping backward from her place in front of the desk, she began to follow her hoofsteps in reverse order.

  19. I suppose this will do. The unicorn stood in a pool of various articles of clothing, finally settling upon the one that she would be using. It wasn't exactly her preference to dress up for any occasion, but certain social protocols had to be observed. The first Hearts and Hooves day spent with a very special somepony was supposed to be a momentous event and so, there were certain courtesies to be observed. Quickly putting the attire on, Flux trotted over to the slightly broken mirror that hung on the opposing wall. It is rather festive, if nothing else, she thought.

With a swish of her tail, Flux returned to her immaculately clean experimental area. She picked up a nearby bottle and continued to apply the adhesive substance, hoping to make the wrapping job seem less rushed. She noticed that the substance seemed to be much less fluid than when she had used it earlier, but such a trivial difference was not worth noting. She glanced around the room, letting her magic to the work for her. Flux sighed, realizing that Tesla had once again vanished from the basement room. He must be off for some sustenance. She turned back to her spellwork and quickly completed her wrapping-related spells. Only pausing to levitate the gift into her saddblebag, Flux took one last look at the worn walls of the clock tower and then ascended the staircase to meet Colton. Here we go.

Now, Tesla on the other hand was lazing about in the white snow outside. His brown coat had been protecting him from the cold of the weather and the ferret saw no reason to get up anytime soon. However, he noticed a flapping of wings overhead that compelled him to open his eyes. The ferret found himself looking up at the familiar shape of Sparks the sparrow. With some slightly interest, he got to his paws and stared up expectantly at the bird.

  20. Hearts and Hooves Day, one that had little weight on the life of one scientist mare until recently. The day designated to the celebration of romance had always seemed a nuisance to the unicorn, as she would always be pulled away from her work by some familial event. However, this year was quite a different one. The unicorn had a pony with which to spend the day and it made the mare rather apprehensive. The social protocol for such an event was very unknown to the generally out-of-touch pony. So, she had come about a way that made the whole affair into a familiar situation.

Taking the idea to view the day as an experiment of sorts, Quantum Flux did what any good scientist would before beginning a study, she researched the subject. The socio-historical archives of the Great Library of Canterlot proved quite useful in her search for knowledge. She learned about the customs and historical origin of the event, which would make for an interesting conversation in the mare's opinion. However, she still frittered about nervously as she quickly wrapped up the gift that she had obtained for her very special somepony.

Tesla looked on with disinterest, finding no reason for the anxious behaviour of his master. However, the mare spoke disjointedly aloud to the ferret, hoping to organize the jumble of thoughts in her mind. “Completely irrational, you know what you should be doing...absolutely unprepared...too much adhesive...what if it's terrible...how did I even get into this whole thing anyway...

Noticing that she had only a few minutes before they were to meet in the upper floor of the clock tower, Flux hastily completed her wrapping and dashed over to her dismally disorganized living space. It was a stark contrast to the pristine nature of her scientific workspace, but the unicorn saw no reason to keep it in order. Until she needed it to be so, that is. Rummaging through her various lab coats and formal attire, she attempted to find the right outfit for the approaching event.

  21. "That would be a lovely opportunity," the unicorn replied, covering her excitement with her mannerly tone. In truth, this may have been the most fruitful visit to a book retailer in her life. A possible breakthrough in the theory that had plagued her thoughts since her first meeting with the concept and a pleasant conversation to boot. However, the stallion continued with their discussion and it piqued a name in the mind of the mare. "Though I was born in Fillydelphia, my fillyhood and brief extent of my marehood have been spent in Canterlot. I do believe I have heard of Lady Chrysanthemum, though it must have been quite a while ago now. I'm not quite the social connoisseur that my family tends to rear. However, you are quite correct on the matter of pegasi; Canterlot is primarily a unicorn city after all."

Remembering suddenly that she was still carrying a stack of books with her magical energies, Flux voiced her intent to the stallion. "I nearly forgot, I should be purchasing these volumes. If you'll excuse me for a moment." With those words, Flux trotted over to the desk at which Inkblot sat writing away on his parchment. She placed them down with a slightly sound, ordering them neatly in a row for the pegasus to observe.
