  1. "We will be saving our bits, maybe buy you a retirement gift?" the Germanean said.

“I might take you up on that, molot’chik,” Novaya said, suddenly serious. Of course she couldn’t resist breaking out into a grin with her response. “... in twenty years! I am not old enough for pension yet!”

Novaya stifled a laugh as Radiant Steel nearly fell out of her seat in the aftermath of her swig of Stallian vodka. The flier was a featherweight! Did her friends never take her out before? What did guardsponies in Canterlot do in their time off? Did they even have time off?

“You have a lot to learn, letchika! the sergeant snickered at the younger guardsmare.

"That is why you should not be drinking Stallian drinks! They are focused on getting drunk, not on taste. In Germaney, we treat drink as something to be savored... Here, let me be showing you.” The large stallion waved down a waitress, having her deliver a tall stein of of red beer. He continued, “Very sweet, not strong at all, I think you will be liking it! Not like those brutish things that ponies from Stalliongrad call 'drinks'. No offense of course."

“None taken,” Novaya said, waving a hoof in dismissal of the unintended slight. “Though in our defense, drink is not drink, merely a tool for getting to know your comrades better!”

The sergeant took another bite of orange and shot of vodka, smacking her lips together as she downed the fruity yet biting concoction. “You see, there are always walls between us. The vodka, it helps us break these walls down, especially among the enlisted. After all, how are you supposed to fight together if you care not for your comrade? Our drink is bitter because our winters are bitter, as are the battles we fight on land and sky. Monsters, criminals, injustice. It is our duty to protect those who call the Frontier home from such things. Our local fare serves as constant reminder of that. There are bonds of blood, bonds of water, and bonds of Stallianoya! I will let you be the judge of which is the strongest!”

"Kameraden, I am understanding if you are... worried about serving with pony who sells his talents. You may be thinking that I am not loyal, that I would desert you all for money. I want you all to know that is not true. I have not signed a piece of paper, but I take Herr Valius' word as my promise. I will serve as best I can, and I will not hesitate to lay my life down for each and every one of you."

Cutlass clinked her bottle against the tankard in assent. "You have my trust, Martel Starkhuf, just like everypony at this table," she looked around to the other two, her tone solemn and sincere, "Just promise me one thing, provided we all get out of this alive..." A large goofy grin appeared on Cutlass' face. "...I want a song written about this when it's over."

Novaya laughed heartily. Yes, the group was coming together nicely. Regardless of the trouble they faced, this night surely proved that they wished to see it through to the end. She could only hope that those wishes could be backed by steely resolve when push came to shove. But the night was young and the sergeant major could worry about that in the morning.

“URAH!” she shouted, raising her bottle to the Stallian Guardspony’s cheer of assent. Tovarischi po oruzhiyu! Comrades in arms! Together we stand, through thick and thin, through everything!”

    ******

“... through everything,” Novaya mumbled, mostly to herself.

Her stomach felt like it was full of nails and the hardwood of the bar counter may as well have been frost-coated steel from an Ostrov airship dock. Lifting the tankard next to her, the sergeant major took a deep breath before throwing her head back and chugging its contents. The sloshing liquid burned its way down her throat, worming its way in between the nails in her stomach. Novaya suppressed her gag reflex, stomaching the cold water while trying not to wretch.

It was painful, but necessary. After all, the best cure for a hangover was hydration and time. The sergeant grimaced as she slammed the tankard back down onto the table. Her stomach continued to growl in protest as she munched on the home fries and scrambled eggs that had been offered by the barkeep. The toast was slightly burnt and the home fries a bit raw, but this was Port Dawn, not Canterlot and the tavern was a tavern, not a five-star restaurant. Novaya wouldn’t have it any other way... well save the raging stomache.

The sergeant major peered past her now-empty tankard at the rest of the crew. Each pony was in varying degrees of disrepair from the evening before, but each was awake and each seemed serviceable. The master sergeant waved a hoof in a circular motion over her head in the “rally up” hoof sign.

“Grab a quick bit to eat, team. We’ll go over the map before we leave.”

  2. Shining Armor scowled in mock consternation at his wife’s playful banter. Doubt his prowess on the dance floor? Inconceivable! Years of coming here after hours, hanging out with his ROTC class, and practically owning the officers’ table since he was just a butterbars? Years of cutting a rug when the big band rocked the house? Fillies lined up to see the ridiculously photogenic stallion? Well, the latter not so much anymore, especially since his-- ahem-- very high-profile wedding.

But in every case, this was still his house!

“Honey,” he said, “Ponyland is my house and stuff like

is my jam! What makes you think I’m going to drag stuffy old military marching hooves along with me to the dance floor?”

The captain smiled as Cadence gently nuzzled him, gently tapping her horn with his own in return. The night was theirs. The rapid clip clop of hooves on stone was a sudden, but welcome interruption; drinks had arrived!

"An eight-year Starberry Merlot,” the barmare quipped as she displayed her vintage. “Not as aged as some prefer it, but a most excellent year with a wonderfully light and refreshing flavor."

“Well, I certainly hope her majesty finds it satisfactory!” Shining Armor teased.

  3. I would emphasize this then. Focus on him wanting to be the best that he can be. You can say that he tests himself when he can and that eventually he found that the final threshold was trying out for the Wonderbolts. There could also be a bit about the point where he accepts that the Wonderbolts would be the next step in his development so he overcomes his old hesitation and tries out.

    Did you consider my remarks?

  4. As stated earlier, I would shy away from death in mane RP. However, feel free to go nuts in FFA and private RPs. It's your story and you can do what you want there. As for the persistence of death, each RP thread is technically its own continuity. You only choose to apply what happens to the RP threads as canon for your characters if you and the other players want to. Therefore, death only persists if you feel it good and necessary for your private/FFA RP experience.

  5. Sugarcube Corner was much better known for its fresh-baked treats than its coffee and Shining Armor could tell. This was the epitome of office swill. But really, he couldn’t complain considering it was after hours, he was getting it for free, and well, he was the one who made it. There was only so much you could do with instant. The shop floor was cleared, its tables empty and its fresh display cases cleaned out for the night. The lanterns in the dining area were still lit, however, bathing the shop in their soft glow. The Cakes had been kind enough to leave the shop open for him which was fortunate given the circumstances.

The captain idly ruffled the pages of his newspaper, less concerned with the content than finding something to pass the time. A plate of cupcakes sat to his right, a single one of the dozen and a half floating idly next to his head. Shining Armor took a half-hearted nibble at the treat before setting it back down on his napkin on the table. He wasn’t hungry, but it was a courtesy to have them on hoof.

That said, cupcakes were the least of Shining Armor’s concerns. Across the polished white surface of the table sat a very dejected-looking lavender unicorn, her mane tangled and frazzled, ends split and knots going every which-way. Scratches and scrapes covered her front legs and face and the faint odor of burnt hair still lingered about her. Beside her, boosted by a small hay bale, sat an equally dejected-looking dragon. His short stature placed his arms at just about table height, the hay bale barely accommodating him as he stared intently into his coffee cup. The dragon was just as frazzled-looking, several of his spines crooked and some of his scales looking scuffed and charred. This wasn’t exactly what Shining Armor had been planning on his social visit to Twilight in Ponyville.

“So...” the captain began, not without a hint of awkwardness. “How exactly did this happen?”

  6. REINTOPSECRET.png

    Anathema

    RP Type: Crossover

Name: Subject calls herself Anathema. REIN operating codename has been “Eris,” the ancient diety of Strife.

    Sex: Female.

    Species: Changeling

Age: Unknown, possibly on the order of the alicorns.

    Body Color: Lust red (#E62020)

Mane/Tail: Mane and tail are bleached white, wild and unkempt in their natural form.

    Eye Color: Violet

Distinguishing Marks: The joints in her exoskeleton glow a faint violet when she is in her natural form. Does not possess hole-marks in her legs and wings.

Physique: Slender and tall in her natural form. Subject is a shapeshifter and thus does not have concrete morphology. Subject can assume the appearance of any equinoid or griffinoid with utilization of the proper spell. Thus far no methods have been developed to easily distinguish between a shapeshifting spell and the true individual’s biology. Experiments are being conducted with the use of arcanometric sensors utilizing telemetry gathered from the prior attack on Canterlot.

Occupation: Mercenary and actress, specializing in intelligence operations and investigation. Subject does not have a home base or known home faction. Inquiries have turned up hits throughout Equestria and Aquellia. REIN intel suggests that most who deal with the subject on a regular basis are unaware of her true nature.

Motivation: Be the best at her trade. See the world, experience its pleasures, and perhaps even find a place for herself.

Likes: the finer things in life, wine, aged spirits, high-class cuisine, personal indulgence, being in control, “performing”

Dislikes: roughing it, being outsmarted or played, not being at the top of her game, being tied down by obligations, being thwarted by happenstance

    Subject History

Subject’s true origins are shrouded in mystery. REIN and RESF assets have yet to locate origin of Changeling threat, though isolated hives appear throughout Equestria. Such hives rarely present a threat to the general population, sustaining themselves by feeding on local wildlife.

Subject is not a member of any nearby known hive. Though her physiology and morphology identifies her as a fertile Changeling queen, subject operates solo most of time. Little biometric data is available to link her to any hives known to REIN or CENTCOM. All available intel suggests that she is rogue.

UPDATE: More recent intelligence suggests that her home hive is far outside current Equestrian- or Griffon-controlled territory. Scattered reports from Stallian ISU teams that have frequented the area point to a conflict sometime in the recent past between two Changeling queens. KOG records note an increase of Changeling activity in the area that suddenly dropped off after increasing escalation. It was assumed that one of the queens had been terminated. Cross-referencing KOG data with Eris’ file seems to suggest otherwise.

All available REIN assets are to keep careful watch for subject to resurface. Subject has multiple identities and can shift between them at will. REIN officers must remain vigilant if they wish to catch her in the act. List of possible identities is available upon request. Be advised, such identities may already have been discarded if she has discovered that they have been compromised. Consult REIN intelligence officers prior to deployments for most up to date information.

Subject has been the focal point of several high-profile heists in Canterlot, Stalliongrad, and Talonopolis. Subject’s track record includes grand larceny, accessory to airship hijacking, high-level intelligence leaks, and industrial sabotage. Each case file makes reference to a high-class lady who would worm her way into the upper echelons of the administrative structure about to be hit several weeks before the heist itself took place.

Subject is of particular interest to both REIN and CENTCOM/RESFCOM. A lone changeling has yet to be observed in the wild. Capture of subject alive could yield large amounts of valuable data on changeling biology, morphology, and psychology to combat them in future conflicts. Capture for her criminal record is merely a bonus.

    Subject Psychological Analysis

Key pattern in subject interactions is an emphasis on self. Subject is highly focused on self-preservation, treating other persons as accessories to complete her task. Despite her willingness to sacrifice others before herself, subject retains a sense of tact and will avoid unnecessary confrontation and situations where burning assets would be necessary. That said, subject displays extremely vindictive tendencies and will often come back to haunt those who have wronged her in the past.

Subject has consistently eluded REIN, Honor Guard, and Stallian ISU attempts to apprehend. Aquellian Marine MPs have had similar luck. Subject is intimately familiar with day to day REA operations in Canterlot, possibly due to an identity in mid-tier REA bureaucracy or REIN administration. REIN is currently attempting to identify and eliminate this back door.

Subject demonstrates obsessive compulsive tendencies. Attention to detail is a defining feature of her operations, which are usually meticulously planned ahead of time. Mannerisms between known aliases seem to sync up with key psychological markers. Subject could be described as a master method actor. Further investigation of macro patterns of action is currently being conducted by REIN.

Despite her separation from her professional skill, subject is incorrigibly pleasure-seeking. Her identities can often be found at bars and clubs and her paper trail often involves copious amounts of alcohol, fine dining, and fancy living. Subject prefers big cities with plenty of places to hide and many ponies to blend in with.

Subject is extraordinarily elusive, only appearing for short missions before assuming yet another identity or disappearing off the grid altogether. Subject is extremely skilled in investigation and social engineering. Novice agents should report contacts with subject to REIN leadership immediately. DO NOT ENGAGE THE SUBJECT IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Subject Eris is extremely dangerous and should be treated as such.

Breaks from her patterns of action are rare, but subject has been sighted alone at night in her natural form. Such sightings are elusive and fleeting, but seem to coincide with completed missions. REIN analysts suggest that the subject is displaying emotions such as regret or loneliness. Analysts also note that Eris could potentially be vulnerable to the psychological stress of maintaining and spending so much time in multiple in-depth identities. PSYOPs personnel suggest that exploiting this vulnerability could compromise her by forcing an identity crisis of sorts. RESF combat tacticians are less inclined to believe this assessment. Investigation is ongoing.

Subject does not display especially strong magical abilities. It is immediately clear that she is not built for combat. Based on prior telemetry, Subject Eris is approximately a Beta on the UMAT scale. However, her penchant for subtlety and deception makes her just as dangerous, if not more so than Chrysalis, whose aetheric telemetry ranks higher on the UMAT scale in raw magical potential. REIN analysts suspect that her much lower power threshold is the result of her inability to absorb the life force of those who love the pony she replaces, as Chrysalis was able to do with her previous target Shining Armor. Subject Eris appears to rely on her own innate magic rather than stealing it from other ponies.

    Skill Set

Actress. Subject Eris can create unique body features to create an identity for herself. After she settles on a face and body, she develops a set of mannerisms and a voice and eventually a network of contacts. Her acting talents also extend to social engineering and grifting, using a combination of charm and misdirection to get the information she needs. Finally, her ability to impersonate is top notch, though she prefers to create original identities.

Multiple identities. Because of her prior work, Subject Eris has a network of established identities, each rolling in different circles and each allowing her access to specific resources. The majority of these organizations and individuals are unaware of her true nature, something she cultivates and exploits.

Investigation. Because of her focus on creating and maintaining identities, Subject Eris is also skilled at investigation, digging up dirt on just about anypony she studies and using that information to improve the authenticity of her multiple personas. Naturally, this also aids her in her job of infiltrating and obtaining hard to get information.

Martial artist. Having been in a few jams herself, she is an accomplished martial artist, though most of her skills revolve around the physical conditioning and escape artist aspects rather than outright combat.

Linguist. Because of her activity in multiple operating theaters and among many different races, as well as her apparent age, subject is adept at acquiring the nuances of her chosen language and culture. She is known to be fluent in Stallian and has a passable command of Germanean and standard Unyasan.

    Spellbook

Polymorph. Standard Changeling ability to shape change into a target identity. Polymorph does not appear to be an actively maintained spell, allowing it to be cast indefinitely and making identification by scrying difficult. REIN is investigating passive arcanometric sensing as an alternative to scrying spells.

Barrier. Standard shield spell to soften incoming blows, projectiles, and energy attacks.

Regeneration. Changelings slowly regenerate themselves over time if physically injured.

    Standing Orders

Subject Eris is a High Value Target. If possible, subject must be captured alive and delivered to REIN handlers for further study. However, subject is extremely dangerous and should not be approached unless one is in the company of a REA Guard squad or REIN specialists. Report any contacts to REIN administration immediately.

  7. There is a character named Tempest Rime. While your name is not identical, it could potentially lead to some confusion. Keep this in mind.

Sergeant in the Royal Equestrian Army (REA) Assigned on special detail to protect Princess Luna

We're not too keen on OCs with pre-existing cast relationships as part of their description. Tempest could easily be part of the Lunar Guard that patrols the castle or the streets of Canterlot at night and still keep her key characteristics. She does not have to be tied to Luna despite her profession.

A respectable goal, but the chances of an enlisted pony becoming a flag officer are very slim. The way the REA is set up, Tempest would have to take leave from the guard in order to attend ROTC training to earn a commission, and even then she would start out as a lieutenant. Being enlisted could help her advance in terms of her being familiar with how things move up and down the chain, and what exactly enlisted people expect of an officer, but it's still a rare case that any officer make it all the way to general. Not discouraging you from this, mind you, just letting you know

I'm going to reiterate what Imagination said here. I would also suggest reading up on military culture and careers to get a better idea of how the REA system was developed, how the ranks relate to each other, and how military servicemen/women interact with each other and the general population.

Finally, a minor nitpick. Please bold your field titles (Name, Age, Cutie Mark, etc.) as this will make your application much easier to read.
