  1. You know, they've really done a good job with the family relationships in the show. There's such a varied mix of lifestyles: Pinkie living with the Cakes; Applejack living with her brother and grandmother; Rarity off on her own and running a business; Twilight away from her parents to study. The result is much more real, I think, than a lot of shows marketed to the same demographic, where all the characters are female and each lives alone in a separate house. (I'm thinking specifically of Strawberry Shortcake in this case, but the same basic gimmick applied to Rainbow Bright in the '80s.)

  2. I have to admit that I'm most fond of Fluttershy's mane (as you can probably guess by my avatar picture). It's really because I always wanted long, thick hair and never had anything but fine hair that looks awful when it gets past shoulder-length. Such a tragedy. :wail:

  3. Why was the term so forbidden by the mods there?

It was only one active mod who disliked the term, and from what I understand (which is not all that much), it was mostly a case of poor judgement. What really should have been a rant posted to a personal journal was posted to the community. That particular mod didn't like the term, and the post turned into a community-wide argument rather than an airing of a pet peeve. The whole kerfluffle kind of blindsided everyone. I think the original post was eventually deleted.

  4. The equestriamlp community on livejournal recently had a bit of a meltdown over the term "brony," and quite a few active members left the community as a result. The whole debacle was instigated by a post--by one of the mods, unfortunately--ranting about the term and demanding that no one use it in the subject line of posts. The whole thing spiralled out of control and eventually ended up on sf_drama.

I admit that I can't quite understand the need for a fandom name. I've never been involved in a fandom that had a name, honestly--I've been an HP fan and now I'm primarily a Transformers fan, and there was no specific terminology for either one. *shrug*

  5. I'm bracing myself for a fandom storm. It's a good thing this is rumored for a finale.

This should definitely be interesting, at the very least! ....Or maybe I mean frightening. This makes me casually curious why an added alicorn would also be female--you would think they'd want to even things out a bit. I was surprised, originally, that Prince Blueblood was not designed as an alicorn, since he's Celestia's nephew.

...They'll probably never actually explain anything. :P We'll just stumble along like usual.

  6. I'm pretty sure there was a tv show as well.

There was! I remember watching it on the Disney channel. I also remember that they split up a lot of the standalone movies (the Wonderland one and the Nutcracker one, at least) into separate episodes for the series. I still sort of like that Nutcracker one...I wonder if I could find it somewhere. 'Tis the season, after all. :3

  7. I like to think that there are all sorts of dragons around Equestria--winged, not-winged, finned and fire-breathing and serpentine and... Well, you get the idea. When I first saw "Feeling Pinkie Keen," I wondered if the hydra actually counted as another sort of dragon. Same with the sea serpent in the pilot. I'm not quite sure, and I doubt that will ever be explored in the series, but I can still dream.

  8. Then I get to Fluttershy, and my mind goes blank. She's quiet, and timid, like how I used to be. And I hated being quiet and timid. So I guess it's more of a personal thing?

I will take some of that hate, because I have to agree with you. I really liked Dragonshy, because I felt like I was seeing more to her character than just "Sweet, Shy, Likes Critters," but the more I see of her, the more I'm afraid that's all there is to see. :/ I may still be surprised--I haven't watched a lot of the middle episodes yet, though I've seen all the Season 2 episodes since Lesson Zero. (Our cable plan doesn't actually include the Hub, so while I watched the very first episodes back when they aired, I kind of drifted away from the show until we had a free preview in November.) I'd been watching all the episodes in order to catch up, but I watched half of The Stare Master and kind of...wandered away. Part of that is the CMC, who kind of exhaust me, but a bigger part of my disinterest was having to suffer through them riding roughshod (ha, that idiom has never been more appropriate) over Fluttershy, and knowing that she would have to use her "staaaare" or whatever to get the upper hoof again.

I should just get over it and watch that one and Show Stoppers already. I want to get to the Gala. <3

  9. Oh good Lord, we probably shouldn't even talk about how much. I used to collect G1s, and Iprobably spent a few hundred on ebay back in 2002-2003 or so. Then G3 started production, and I have So. Many. of those, mostly still in boxes. I was resisting G4, but this month I caved and bought a bunch of them from the Hasbro site.

    Must...stop...but....PONIEZ @_o *goes insane*

Why, oh why, do I love these little pastel plastic figures so much? ...... <3

  10. Dear Princess Celestia,

Today I was (painfully) reminded that going into work when you are sick, even when you have good intentions of helping your co-ponies and staying on top of that growing inbox--is not always The Best Idea. I promise I will learn my lesson this time.

    Faithfully watching the clock,

    Lyric

P.S. Thank you also for appearing in the foam of my latte this morning as a sign that I am, in fact, delirous. Lots of love <3

  11. ....I am also old, heh. When I was very young, we had cable and the Disney channel, so while I did watch My Little Pony (I still remember being terrified when the ponies were turned into monsters in Firefly's Adventure) and She-Ra, I also watched things that were particular to the Disney channel and Nickelodeon. I especially remember Belle and Sebastian and David the Gnome (I loved Swift the fox). When I was older, I watched Jem, and I was so disappointed that the dolls looked nothing like the characters did in the show. Like, uh, everyone in my generation, I was briefly obsessed with TMNT.

Around my early teens, I know I watched Captain N, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and Batman: the Animated Series, heh. I don't think the Cartoon Network started until I was in high school or college, but even so, I watched Dexter's Laboratory and the Powerpuff Girls, as well as all the badly-dubbed anime I could find.

Then I went to school for animation, and discovered all sorts of peculiar and wonderful things that I had never even guessed existed! o.O

EDIT: I can't believe that I forgot to mention Voltron! I even had a little figure of the Princess. <3

  12. The Rocky Mountains? And here I thought there were no Brony's around these parts.

I see you enjoy Minecraft! Do you have a certain server you play on? I've been trying to find a good 1.0.0 server since it released, to no avail.

I ALSO see you like drawing and writing! I love seeing other writers join the board. Can we see some of your drawings and stories?

and as always, welcome to Canterlot. I sincerely hope you enjoy your stay.

*waves* At least one other brony!

I've actually only played Minecraft in singleplayer, mostly because I've only played since October and I worry that everyone will be much more advanced than I am. o_O I'm thinking about SMP, though... Although I'm not even sure how to start looking for a server. I think my boyfriend would like to play multiplayer with me, too, so I ought to figure it out.

...Anyway! I haven't done any writing for this fandom, yet--I write most of my fanfiction for Transformers. I used to have a lot of pony art up, but I see that my old site is down. Oh well, I want to try out the FiM style, anyway. I'll be sure to link my future endeavors. :)

  13. About myself.: Let's see, I'm female, American, and I never intend to grow old...mentally, at least. :D I enjoy writing and drawing (I majored in animation, once upon a time), and I like to waste my very limited free time playing Minecraft and making jewelry.

How did you hear about Canterlot.com?: From a page on Ponysquare.

How did you became a fan of FiM?: I've loved ponies since G1! This is just the most recent franchise development. :3

My one favourite main cast pony?: Rainbow Dash

    Hello, hello!

Ever since I started watching FiM, I've been looking for a sort of internet-home that suits me, and I liked the looks of this one so much that I had to sign up.

I grew up with My Little Ponies, and I've never stopped loving them. I've amassed a ridiculous amount of them over the years. ^_^; There's nothing that takes me back to my childhood quite like the smell of MLP vinyl. My very first pony was G1 Firefly, and while I'll always love G1 best, I'm coming to enjoy G4 and the mane six just as much. The show has everything I liked about the Powerpuff Girls...but with the addition of HORSES, making it...well, 20% cooler, for sure. :D

Enough rambling, hee. I look forward to getting to know all of you!
