  1. I think Derpy represents a very important source of "first creative contact" between the brony-type fans and the creators of the show, as well as the creative influence and passion we throw at them. We fuel the fire that makes the show better than ever by inspiring those who work on it (in my humble opinion), and I think Derpy is their way of nodding at us (among other things, such as the Equestria Girls video and the ComicCon poster link on the official page expressly for Bronies). It would be interesting to see more dialogue from her, but the fact we get to see her in every episode in some little way or other is good enough for me.
  2. Pinkie and Fluttershy. Though by beauty of intelligent character design, all the ponies are appealing to different girls in different ways (and different age ranges as well; a 5-year-old might find Pinkie more appealing while a 7 or 8-year-old might go for one of the other Mane Six).
  3. With this season so far, it's precisely the episodes I've been hyped about that I've come away with most disappointed. I think this episode will be a treat, as I recall reading one of the animators was talking about Granny's up and coming role and how funny it was going to be. I don't have anything to point to, though.
  4. I read and liked Cupcakes. ...What? I've written a sort of expansion to Story of the Blanks, but I haven't finished it or really decided what I want to do with it.
  5. I think a lot of creative and artistic license needed to be made up in order to make the story function. As fans of the show we crave for more canon and story to cling on to, buuuuut given the fact it's a cartoon, we'll have to settle with whatever the creative powers give us, or whatever we come up with as fanon. My thoughts? I think some ponies are a synthesis of their parents' traits (this would explain Twilight, but certainly not Rarity), so that would serve as a basis for how a lot of ponies were originally named.
  6. I hope if we ever see a full season release on disc, it'll come with Hub commercials as well -- some of those are pure gold!
  7. That sounds more like a hoarding problem than a little nitpick between a husband and wife. I hope that situation was resolved in a pleasant way.
  8. I'm glad you were able to work it out. Since toys sort of fall into a gray area for adults, there are other options.
  9. If you look at the core of what My Little Pony originally was, it was designed to sell toys. Granted it has evolved past that as an entertaining series, but at its core it is still designed and expected to sell merchandise -- there's no way around this fact. There are many more angles Hasbro could be coming at with this, which is why I find this current news really disturbing. I think the best solution would be for Hasbro to offer up its own episodes on YouTube a la Funimation (with ads or links to purchasable content, of course), so they would have control -- and allow the Hubless or international community a place to go. Sadly it's a corporate beast following dated policies -- they really could be milking this for all it's worth and getting new people addicted to it and buying stuff, instead of making a community-aggravating move to make a fast buck that will hurt the series more than help it.

    THE Pitch

It depends on how the person I'm trying to convert responds. If they show interest I'll tell them about entertaining the series is, how popular it has become, who created it, its immense respect for quality, how well-designed the characters are...then I'll usually have them watch some clips on my phone (have all of the episodes converted on it!), usually the baked bads scene from Applebuck Season or the Pinkamina part from Party of One. If they really like it, we'll watch a whole episode or two and I can claim another soul for the herd.
  11. It's a very strong property that's been "around" for well over two decades. I think the real question is, what will we do when G5 rolls around? While the fanbase may dwindle, the property may yet still evolve -- though I'm betting with its rebooted popularity, we won't have to worry about that for a while. I think the most important thing is to take the series for what it is, and support it however we can to keep it going as long as possible. I also think that Hasbro really should look over its business philosophy and, perhaps, update some of its policies regarding the recent YouTube takedowns. A lot of that seems to be souring the fanbase -- especially the international community that has limited access to new episodes. They should also try to produce products that honor the canon and continuity of the cartoon. How many of us would jump at a high-quality canon-accurate plush of one of the Mane 6? I should as heck would.
  12. I walked into a store and an employee there saw my cutie mark pins on my bag. He's like "Hey, we've got a pegasister! Gimme some brohoof!" Word.

    THE Pitch

I forced my little male cousin to watch a few episodes. I threatened him physical harm if he refused. He loved every minute of it. When introducing the show to a non-convert, I usually pitch it along the lines of "I'm really addicted to this amazing cartoon series..." and go from there.
  14. Love it, but it does need some Season 2 update material!
  15. Yes, I agree -- actually, it'd be kind of cool if there was a Ditzy Doo on top of a Derpy. This fanon/canon ambiguity is nothing new -- take a look at the official Hasbro names for the secondary/background ponies. Berry Punch/ Berry Shine, etc.../shudder
  16. This is true, though I'm assuming Ditzy might have been Derpy's original design based on what Ms. Faust wrote: http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Lauren-Derpy.png
  17. Don't forget that Rainbow Dash referred to a "Ditzy Doo" during Winter Wrap Up, though it's nice to see them settle on the official fanon name. I might also suggest that the creative powers-that-be between Facebook and the actual writers for the show may not be connected or in any sort of creative contact whatsoever, so we could still see more from either a Derpy or Ditzy in time to come. As far as Cupcakes goes, I have read it, and I found it more ridiculous than offensive. Its reputation and viral nature both stem from where it was originally posted. Since FiM is an extremely meme rich culture with a propensity to produce new memes (almost weekly!), it makes sense that it garnered such a strong reaction and became a part of the community's "dark side."
  18. Wow neat, that is so cool you're from Ireland! What is your favorite national dish? Not too long ago I procured a bag of haggis-flavored crisps. I haven't tried them yet. I know haggis is more of a Scottish thing, but I'm sure it will be an experience all the same. Cheers!
  19. I have to make a living somehow! I mean...uh, want a cookie? Thanks for the warm welcome you two!
  20. About myself.: Greetings, everyone! I'm 27, female, and I hail from the frozen wastes of Illinois. I enjoy baking, playing games, and run an international midget slave ring. I'm currently attending school to further my knowledge of pastry, and work part time at a coffee shop while I do this. I also draw, but nothing amazing fantastic like other pony artists. I've also dabbled in some costume craft -- I've been thinking of doing something pony-related I've also attended several MLP meetups around here. How did you hear about Canterlot.com?: Stubbled across it while wandering around the intertubes. How did you became a fan of FiM?: A friend urged me to watch an episode -- I turned my nose up at the prospect, thinking that the "new" generation of MLP was soiled from my memories of G1. He kept hounding me and I finally watched one episode. That was it, I was hooked. My one favourite main cast pony?: Pinkamina Diane Pie I used to RP a lot, so I have pretty good experience with it. I joined this forum since it looked like a good community to get myself into; I hope to make friends with many of you in time to come!
