  1. "What an honor," Cadence replied genuinely, trying to recall whether or not she had met Professor Starbright at all. She likely had, but she had such a terrible memory for names, especially with all the ponies a princess had to meet. "I do recall the twins and mention of an observatory, but honestly the Open House is a bit of a blur for me," she admitted with an embarrassed smile. "So much going on you know."

The alicorn was just about to comment on Polaris's entertaining attempt at sneaking a piece of the daisy fudge when a rather cheery and clear voice ran out through the shop. It apparently belonged to a customer who had visited at least once before, considering her words. What was interesting, however, was her reaction to the princess herself. She appeared to be caught off-guard, though she rectified it quickly and made pleasant conversation. Her stallion companion was just as quick on the uptake, leaving Cadence with her mouth partly open in response... only to snap it shut an instant later while hoping no pony had noticed.

She really would have to revisit her lessons on etiquette, whereas the Duke dealt with these pleasantries on a daily basis for years, the royal mare had needed to change her approach to nearly every kingdom she'd visited. She obviously still remembered how to move among high society in Canterlot, it was just taking a while to stay in gear now that she would be staying. Regardless of how friendly she wanted to be to other citizens, she was expected to maintain a certain amount of regal composure, something with which she'd already pushed the limits several times in the past in pursuit of more relaxed relationships with others.

As Timid burst back into the shop, stammering an apology to Polaris, Cadence sought to relieve the stallion of the awkward predicament of speaking to one pony while another was vying for attention as well. She trotted around the older ponies so as not to disturb their discourse, and leaned down to speak with the colt on a face-to-face level.

"Timid Star," she said with a soothing smile."If anything I should be the one apologizing to him. I laughed first. It's good that you came back to say that you're sorry, but you don't need to debase yourself either. I'm sure Polaris will tell you the same after he's done speaking with our new friend here." She offered a gold-clad hoof. "Come on now, off the floor, and we can wait a few moments for our turns."

  2. I might be a little inactive on Cadence for 1-2 days. Have a lot going on (car dying, getting in gear with my promotion at work) and rarely have free time that isn't spent driving to work or doing laundry. I should get it sorted out soon, sorry for the delay to those waiting on me!

    Character Summary:

Faore was born in Trottingham to her very loving and devoted parents, who from an early age impressed upon the foal that an active mind was one of the best gifts they could give her. In addition to traditional toys her mother always read her old mare's tales, while her father would let her play with the wooden puppets he made. The tiny unicorn would run around tirelessly, either pretending she was a princess or some random forest spirit.

After her first Nightmare Night celebration, Faore discovered that she loved being in costume, particularly the masks. Each year she would dress as something different, doing her best to act out whichever appearance she'd chosen. In time, she asked her father to show her how to actually woodwork, and made her own rudimentary mask.

In time she became more adept at creating the false visages, and began decorating them as well as playing with them. She continued to read the old stories her mother had as well, at times attempting the whimsical magic all the fairies and other creatures would use. This fueled her designs for her masks, and occasionally she'd need to use her magic just to translate her ideas onto the wood, because her hooves couldn't quite carve or paint them. When she began doing this, however, she noticed that whenever another would wear one of the masks they would act a little differently. It was very subtle, almost as if they were a little more confident or more prone to laughter.

After this discovery, Faore began exclusively making her masks with a little bit of magic thrown in, actively trying to convey her feelings during their construction. It worked more and more often, and the pony was delighted that she could share her whimsical fantasies with others, even if only for a short while when they wore her masks. Her simple cutie mark of (what she considered to be) endless possibilities appeared soon after, and she struck out to be a wandering mask salespony, selling them from her cart while she searched for the best materials.

After moderate success she's set up a more permanent shop in Whitetail Woods, and is often found prancing among the trees in one of her various masks when she isn't traveling. Her personality is often infectious, but one thing is for sure: you'll never see her the same way twice.

  4. Cadence listened passively as Polaris regaled her with tales of both his colthood and his current circumstances, smirking a little as a dreamy look came into his eyes. Reveries were entertaining things to watch if you were an audience to one, and it seemed like the noble duke was far and away from the little chocolate shop at that moment. Surely fond meories were worth the metaphorical trip, though. Canterlot Castle had been rather fun itself when she was younger.

Between all the lessons and rather boring history sessions, the adolescent princess had wonderful times exploring the ancient structure and all of its little nooks and crannies. The rear pantry that few of the stewards thought to check, which provided many a mid-afternoon snack while dodging the hawk-eyed guards. The favorites, however, were the long winter nights curled up in the Royal Study that her aunts often frequented, snuggling under a blanket in front of a roaring fire. It was actually those lazy times that had built her appreciation for chocolate and milk, and by extension fudge. There was nothing better than warmth and a treat while looking outside to see the snow flurrying about.

Cadence realized that she'd been daydreaming herself when Polaris's choking brought her back to reality with a bit of amused concern.

"You weren't kidding about that sweet tooth," she teased, snickering innocently.

  5. Cadence found herself slightly overwhelmed by the combined attentions of HighRoller, Madam Bistro and "Yuki." It wasn't unwelcome or even unpleasant, it was just that she could only talk to so many ponies at once without feeling like she was giving a speech. No pony wanted to hear another drone on and on about nothing...

While Madam Bistro spoke with Pigpen, however, the princess's eyes were caught by the glint of the prototype princess model she'd agreed to at the CRPR Open House. It really was rather magnificent, with wonderful accents and a lifelike apperance. It was like looking in a little mirror after looking at all the little details.

"That's very impressive!" Cadence complimented, leaning down a little to observe the figurine more closely. "Are you sure you didn't just use some magical machine to transpose my likeness onto material?" she chuckled.

  6. Cadence grinned and leaned a little closer to Sherlock as he introduced himself, her eyes glimmering with curiosity. A detective! She'd never actually met one before. After all, what use would she have had for one at any point? The guards always dealt with missing persons or objects within the castle, usually. She had seen one of those pony noir films once, though. The dark aesthetic and gritty conversation had always made her giggle during a time when she was being taught to be prim and proper around everypony. Somehow, though, she didn't feel as though she'd find Sherlock in a heavy, dirty coat, prowling lightless alleys looking for trouble.

"That must be very interesting work!" the princess exclaimed, pondering on it a little more. "Although I suppose if you took a case for something like a missing shoe, it could get a little boring..."

The pink alicorn was distracted with the arrival of yet another pony, this one a mare with a rather monochrome mane that was actually very flattering. After living in a city so dominated by nobleponies with manestyles meant to be as eyecatching as could be, the more subdued coloration resulted in an attractive contrast. Fleur greeted the pony and addressed her as Estrella, to which Cadence added her own nod of her head and smile.

"Estrella is it?" she asked. "How great to meet you, I'm Princess Cadence! Lady Fleur seems to have so many interesting friends."

  7. Cadence had heard the both sides of the tirade about Princess Luna several times before, and could empathize with each of them. There were valid points to each argument, though she tended to lean toward Ice's point of view. What was disturbing was how often the unicorn seemed to dwell on her unpleasant past, as though she literally couldn't stop thinking about the misery. She'd mentioned it each time they'd met, though perhaps being in Canterlot itself had something to do with it.

"Everypony is entitled to their own opinion," the princess reminded gently. "While none of them were alive for that battle, to completely ignore the fact that my aunt was once Nightmare Moon wouldn't be wise either. It's a delicate balance."

Heart Healer also explained her power, in that it was sometimes difficult to turn off and she almost always felt emotions to some degree. In fact, the more Ice talked the more troubled the unicorn seemed to become, until she actually broke down and began to cry. Alarmed, Cadence moved over to comfort her.

"Heart, are you alright?" she asked in concern, a soothing glow wrapping nebulously around her horn before spreading outward in a calming wave. It was a little troubling how often she was needing to use that spell lately...

As she worked on impeding what she assumed was the flow of negative emotions from Ice to Heart, the alicorn couldn't help but notice that a small filly was bouncing around after a bunny with a plant in its mouth. She tried to remain focused on her task and magic, but the sight was just too amusing after a while. That, and the fact that the chase ended practically at her feet.

"Can I help you?" Cadence laughed, leaning down to greet the filly and slowly letting her arcane tapestry taper off in hopes that it had been enough to help Heart Healer. "You look like you were having a bit of trouble with that bunny!"

  8. And thus we live in our world of imagination, where things are better than the real world in some mental benefits.

But as we live in the real world, we can manage to deal with things better than ever if we try the best we can.

For if we continued our fantasy any more further than averagely, we would become different and worse in dealing with the real world.

    - Noedig

    Meh, what do you think?

Its no advice or anything, jussayin', is all.

The real world is the only place we do live in, regardless of imaginations or delusions otherwise. I know how to live in it, but I don't have to like how it's turning out as a whole.

Also yes, Rosie got me to watch that song and randomly pops up with it ever since :blah:

  9. Cadence nodded sympathetically to Ice as she revealed a little more of her troubles in Canterlot, but couldn't suppress a smile when the unicorn informed her that it had indeed been Princess Luna that she'd met before. The dark alicorn always seemed to be out and about in the oddest of places during the night, so it made sense that when one wasn't looking for her they had the best chance of finding her. The pink mare's youngest aunt actually confused her slightly as well, despite the fact that she should have the most availability to see Luna aside from Celestia.

"I wouldn't disagree with you that she could use friends," Cadence said slowly, thinking carefully about her choice of words. "Even though she came back from her- Um... she just seems lonely sometimes, I guess," she stuttered, quickly deciding against mentioning the Nightmare Moon incident and the subsequent imprisonment in the moon. "I'm glad you were able to make her happy. It isn't easy, believe me!"

The princess was slightly taken aback when Ice compared her to the newly arrived empath, but it was a nice compliment all the same. She let Heart Healer field the likeness while simply content to listen, a hoof catching her mane and tugging it back down as a rebellious breeze threatened to scatter it all over the place. She stopped however when she heard that the new arrival was an empath.

"Oooh you can sense emotions?" she questioned emphatically before she could stop herself. "I'm told that's pretty rare! I've only heard of a couple of others myself. What's it like, sensing everything another is feeling? I would imagine it's something like my love magic, only less... focused on one emotion?"

  10. Ok. Two part question.

First, what was your reaction when you first saw Cadence (either before the episode or during)?

Second, if given the choice to stay as you are, become a human Cadence (having her personality and magic basically and maybe an affinity to pink things), or becomming fully Cadence and living in Equestria, which would you choose?

The first time I saw Cadence was in the promo, and she didn't seem like much to me then. Chrysalis as Cadence was hilariously great and evil, and Cadence herself in the episode was actually much better than I expected. She displayed a wide range of emotions, when all I expected was happy, sad, ooo pretty things!

It would depend on whether I would lose my family and friends. If I would, human. If not, definitely Equestria. I consider it a better world than where ours is heading.
