  1. I KEEP seeing this name pop up, I might just have to take a look at it...

You'll be glad you did. It reminds me alot about MLP. Both shows look cute and simple at first glance, but are far more than meets the eye! AT is a tad bit darker considering it takes place after the Apocalypse..Hmm. Just noticed all my favorite AT episodes were written by Rebecca Sugar. Wonder what she could do with MLP. :20:

  2. I do like the name of this topic. I keep picturing one of those old 1940/1950's film strips. "THE FUTURE OF THE ATOM!". But you got Derpy in a white lab coat with a few test tubes at her side. WHERE WILL DERPY BE IN THE YEAR 2000? (Shows Derpy flying around with a jetpack and knocking BUILDINGS OF TOMORROW over.) :P

  3. I'd prefer you DONT spoil it for me :D though I do ahve to ask, is it (1) serialized, and (2) is it really aimed at an older audience or is is just well-drawn kiddy fare?

It's basically one just really long story. So I guess it's serialized. If that's what you mean. If reminds me of MLP in a way. They took out all the crap that made the previous versions unwatchable and made it cool. And like MLP, the creators are very fan friendly. They have blogs and whatnot and encourage fans to chat it up with 'em. And 2..It's suitable for teens. There is violence, but not the bloody kind. People do die. On screen.

  4. Also, somone mentioned the new Thundercats - I was wiating for the season to end since I was told it was serialized, but I got hooked on FiM before that so I never saw it, but I plan to when my FiM addiction addles a bit, likely in the summer or something. I've heard VERY mixed reviews, but a lot that say it's more "Anime-like" which is enough to pique my interest... (one person even went so far as to say its NOT aimed at kids...?)

Oooh! I'm a Someone now! Wooh! ;-) I've enjoyed it so far. It's the toon I WOULD HAVE loved when I was a kid. Don't want to ruin it for you, but it's alot of fun. You'll probably see a proper season 1 DVD of this before you see one for MLP.

  5. I now have a decent Droid Optimus..er..prime..V..Good phone. Great camera and video recorder. Does everything well, but play games...BEFORE that, I had a VERY old phone, not 1, 2 or 3, but 4-Evers! I really must of had it for seven years. It didn't do anything well, except make phone calls, and it was sturdy as heck..I must have dropped it like a zillion times...From all sorts of distances. However, it did not survive my Derpy moment when I left it on top of my car for an entire summer day during a rainstorm. Derp. :P

  6. I dunno. So far they took two series that I HATED when I as growing up. The Thundercats and MLP. Shows I wouldn't touch as a little kid...And they really did something great with 'em. Wonder what other shows they could bring back and ACTUALLY make something fun with...Hmmmm. :shifty:

And the He-Man series that was done a few years ago wasn't that bad. Shame it didn't last long.

  7. This was mentioned in another thread, but I thought I'd bring it up here.

Over a Barrel, at the end of the "shootout" there was a moment that looked very much like the Chief was dead and not getting back up, the entire music shifted, the attatude of the characters changed, it was very somber and seemed like there was going to be no happy ending... I'd call that a very hard 'touch' on death there, so in retrospect I think even moreso that the team *could* handle death in a logical and well-constructed manner.

Yeah. TV Tropes had a bit on this one, they said, "At the end of the battle in the town, the way the apple juice from the pie that hits Chief Thunderhooves is dripping reminds this troper of a head wound causing blood to drip down the face."

  8. The fact that he is a robot is completely irrelevant to children. To them, he is another person, a living being equal to or better than a human being. I think, therefore I am.

I was watching an episode the Batman; The Animated series with its commentary turned on, and one part Batman was fighting this robot replica of a police officer (Harvey Bullock). The creators (Forgot who was talking. maybe Paul Dini) pointed out that they were very limited on how they could show violence to humans, but when it came to robots, even robots that looked human, the sky was the limit! So they were able to show a human type robot having a rather gruesome death.

  9. I've tried to get people to watch the show. TRIED, but they think of the previous lovey dovey hugs kisses pink pink Care Bear stare type shows and get a big NOWAY!!!. I've put up random clips and Epic Pie Time on my Facebook account and while it was mostly ignored, I did get a few smiles and knowing nods from those in my lists that do watch the show. Not outright "MY FAVORITE SHOW EVAR!!!11", but hints.

  10. Furthermore, modern shows have higher expectations on being 'politically correct' - re: totally inoffensive and possibly really bland - than those of the 80s and early 90s. If you go further back, you'll find examples of discrimination and violence in 50s-70s cartoons that wouldn't get past any censorship board of the modern 00s or 10s era. Simply because it was done 20-30 years ago does not mean that modern censorship will consider it acceptable.

As someone who has watched a lot of toons during the 90's, some channels had stricter censorship laws/rules than others. When Batman:The Animated Series was on Fox Kids, they had some draconian type rules, some made sense (On screen deaths) to just silly (Could show homeless men, but no homeless women or children). The creators did a rather funny comic strip detailing what they couldn't show on Fox. Once the show moved to WB, they were able to make the toon closer to the funny books. They would have never made episodes like "Mad Love" or "Over The Edge" on Fox. Heck, you couldn't even say "Death" or "Dead" or 'Die" in most 90's toons. Note all the butchered anime episodes on CN. Nobody ever died. They were SENT TO ANOTHER DIMENSION! :wail:

And I agree. Probably won't see any on screen deaths on this show..But still, they've gotten stuff past the censors before..
