1. Stalwart blushed a bit at the cute nickname the mare had given him.

"Well, you see, my late father was a retired royal guard who settled on the Northwestern frontier...and my special talent is acting as protection and a refuge for other ponies."

He smiled a bit once more. "Of course, I'll take just about anything I can get...it beats being stuck on the ground in Canterlot acting like a burly decoration to the high and mighty nobleponies there."

  2. post-2778-0-75476700-1335939773_thumb.jp

Stalwart managed a slight smile. 'This is a rather pretty mare...' he thought to himself.

"Oh, um...it's quite alright, miss," the sturdy and apparently gentlemanly stallion said politely. "You're not delaying me in the least. I'm on vacation up here...but thinking about moving back. Do you know of any places that could use the services of private security or a bodyguard around here?" He continued smiling, and flew alongside the mare.

He wasn't about to risk boring her with his life's story, but he earned a living in Canterlot currently, as a sought-after personal bodyguard for snooty rich ponies. It paid well, but it wasn't exactly fulfilling work; he was usually more of an accessory than a source of protection.

  3. I'm most definitely interested! Here's Stalwart's character sheet:

    Roleplay Type: Mane Equestrian

    Name: Stalwart

    Sex: Male

    Age: Stallion

    Species: Pegasus

    Eye colour: True Blue

    Coat colour: Shadowy Blue-Gray

Mane/Tail/Markings colour & Style: Mane and tail are longish, wavy, and a bit messy, and are a pale, slightly dingy gray in colour.

Physique: Above average height, rugged, sturdy build

Cutie Mark: A small stone fortress

Origin/Residence: Resides in Canterlot, born on the frontier

    Occupation: Private Security/Bodyguard

Motivation: Stalwart desires to protect those who cannot protect themselves, and wants to be a refuge to those he loves in times of trouble. He also wishes to follow in his father's footsteps and become a member of the Equestrian Royal Guard.

Likes: Hiking, peaceful scenery, physical work, animals, the smell of soil

Dislikes: Cruelty, injustice of all kinds, being cooped up, dealing with young foals (feels awkward), ruminating thoughts, being the center of attention

    Character Summary:

Personality: Stalwart is quick to defend those in need, but slow to anger for any reason. He has a very gentle spirit, and enjoys nature, animals, and working the land. However, he is a staunch defender of the weak and downtrodden, unable to tolerate bullying and wanton violence. That being said, he's not above bruising some heads in order to preserve the overall peace.

Family: Stalwart's father was a retired royal guard who had moved out to a small plot of land on the frontier on the other side of the Stadia from the Hasufel Mountains. His mother was a younger mare from a rural village in the area. They met, married, and owned a small farm, which Stalwart grew up helping to maintain. A short while after his father passed away from a combination of old age and illness when Stalwart was a young stallion, his mother sold the farm and encouraged him to pursue his dream, which was to follow in his father's footsteps and become a royal guard.

Personal History: Stalwart is relatively well educated, having been tutored by his mother and father as a colt. In addition, waking up early each morning and performing the difficult work involved with running a farm have left him a strong and disciplined stallion with a good work ethic. Ever since he was a colt he has loved communing with nature, and would often spend his spare time traversing the small wooded areas and riverbanks that surrounded his father's property.

Cutie Mark Story: When Stalwart's father passed away, his mother was distraught. She often took to wandering the surrounding lands by herself on long walks, attempting to get her mind off of her grief, while Stalwart tended to the farm work. Though life in the area was peaceful, there was occasional banditry in the region. One day, Stalwart's dear mother failed to return home at her usual time.

His concern growing with each passing minute, Stalwart finally ventured forth to look for her, searching some woods he and his mother both enjoyed visiting. To his horror, the young stallion found that a pair of ne'er-do-wells had accosted her. After attempting to reason with them for her release, it fell upon him to use his physical strength to fight them off. In the face of his steady onslaught, the scrawny ponies fled in terror, leaving Stalwart and his distraught mother alone in the clearing.

As he nuzzled her tears away and comforted her, the mark of a stone fortress appeared on his flank, representing not only his physical strength and valor in the face of danger, but also his capacity to be a sturdy fixture for others to rely upon in their times of personal need

  4. Stalwart looked up and swished his tail as the children wandered off. "I am Stalwart. Nice to meet you, Asteria. And to answer your question...I do private security as my main job, but I'm also a certified peace officer. Not quite a royal guard, or a policeman, but my authority is nearly that of the latter."

The large stallion cocked his head. "You yourself do not appear to be from these parts. Are you here on some sort of business, perhaps?" His tail continued swishing back and forth. "And will you permit me to ask why you wear such a heavy robe everywhere you go? It seems as if it would be a bit uncomfortable...and it makes you look a little, uh, dare I say suspicious?"

  5. Stalwart shamefacedly studied the stoic unicorn. She was an odd pony...very odd indeed. "I-I'm sorry children," he muttered quietly. He decided not to reinforce her advice to them, as it would probably make him seem even more of a "meanie", and they'd probably be disinclined to listen to him anyway.

"I was just trying to protect them," he said to himself softly, hanging his head. He watched the children and the enigmatic mare from the corner of his eye.

[sorry, couldn't think of much else to type. I'll probably have more to work with next post. ^^;]

  6. Stalwart looked at the little foal. "Y-you mean you're not...being threatened?" he asked, looking at the little pony, suddenly feeling very foolish. "I...well, um...this is rather awkward," he said, scuffing the dirt path with his hoof. He turned deep red in the face, giving his cheeks a shade resembling a very deep purple.

He then looked up towards the mare, apparently named Asteria. He attempted to put on his air of confident authority again, with a little success. "Well, um...your face doesn't seem that of a pony caught in the midst of some evil act, so I guess I simply...messed up..." he said, dropping his formal speech pattern at the end and heaving a deep sigh. "Please forgive me."

The stallion shook his head gently, snorting a little at himself. 'Stalwart, you fool...you should know better than to make stupid, stupid accusations like that.' The stallion simply stared down at his hooves, the small area of the park the group occupied silent save for the cool winds rustling the colorful leaves decorating the ground, and those few of them still left on their branches.

  7. Stalwart slowly walked towards Asteria and the little fillies. "What precisely are you doing to those two little ones?" he demanded, swishing his pale gray tail back and forth. "You weren't trying to harm them, were you?" he asked, looking towards the little ponies.

'Poor little foals...they seem absolutely terrified!' he thought to himself. He spread his wings and shuffled them a bit, then folded them on his back again, silently staring down the unicorn and awaiting a response. Poor Stalwart honestly thought he was jumping to the aid of these poor, defenseless children. He didn't realize how wrong he was. The pegasus eyed Asteria incredulously. "Show me your face...now," came another barked order. "If you fail to comply, I'll be forced to bring you in. I'll have you know I'm a certified Equestrian peace officer."

Ah, jumping to conclusions. What fun.

  8. Stalwart.png

Stalwart was trotting through the quiet park, enjoying the afternoon cool. Business had been good lately; there was always some important pony or other who needed (or simply wanted) protection somewhere. As such, he could afford to take a day off.

He nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard what sounded like the screaming of terrified foals! He galloped in the direction of the noise, coming upon a suspicious-looking unicorn standing in front of a pair of fillies.

"You there! Stop that!" he shouted in his deep voice, utilizing his most commanding tone. The large, muscular pegasus stamped a hoof on the ground, punctuating his order.

  9. Stalwart.png

Stalwart was soaring through Cloudsdale. It was not often that he visited this city, despite being a pegasus, but he too had just finished a job, serving as a bodyguard to some important dignitary or other doing a survey of a local factory. He spotted a little coffee shop and figured it was high time for some refreshment.

The built pegasus landed on the clouds and trotted into the establishment, giving the pretty proprietor a small smile. It was about the only kind of smile the normally serious pegasus was capable of giving.

"Hello...I'd like a cup of the darkest roast you've got, please...no cream or sugar or anything of that nature," the muscular stallion spoke in his deep yet gentle baritone. He pulled his coinpurse out of his saddlebag, prepared to fork over the necessary number of bits.

  10. This topic has too much Pinkie Pie for it's own good.

Nonsense! You can NEVER have too much Pinkie Pie! D:<

In other news, welcome to Canterlot! You seem to already be an enthusiastic member of the community, so I'm sure you'll fit in fine.

And I feel you regarding rap lyrics. I like some rap, but most of the lyrics seem vapid, materialistic, or worse.

  11. Roller nodded to the princess who'd questioned him. "Yes...I've already produced a model of your niece, and Shining Armor, and soon your elder sister, as well, but I'd much prefer to do yours first. After all, your mane will allow me to experiment with some new painting techniques and Celestia's mane, um, if you'll pardon me saying so, will be rather a pain to paint by hand. I'll have to break out the detail brush for that. So many colors..." he muttered, then seemed to snap back into reality.

"Oh! Um...I apologize for my, uh, untoward physical closeness, my lady. I merely wanted to examine your mane. I have a store in Canterlot called Silverhoof Games. Perhaps you'd grace my store with your presence so that you can see more of my handiwork and perhaps be a model for your miniature in person?"

The unicorn tentatively offered the princess a business card, which he levitated toward her. It had a big silver horseshoe on it, with "Silverhoof Games" written over it in imitation Olde Equestrian font.

  12. [Hi, guys...sorry for my inactivity. My new full-time job has kept me very busy. I'm glad to be back, though. :)]

Roller rose from his own low, courtly bow to the newcomer. "Yuki, my friend, I'm afraid you're mistaken. That truly is Princess Luna." The young stallion smiled warmly at the Princess. "In all my short years, I never thought I'd be graced with the presence of the beauteous Princess of the Night." He slowly trotted up to her, doing his best not to interrupt her examination of the artifact. "What an exquisite mane..." muttered the unicorn mostly to himself.

"I wonder how one would represent such a thing with acrylics on pewter...maybe by drybrushing some sort of sparkly glaze over the regular coat...?" As he pondered these things out loud in his total geek-out mode, he seemed to forget that he was actually in the presence of royalty.

  13. HighRoller nodded to both of the mares examining his handiwork, flattered by their shows of admiration. "I handpainted this. The hoofguards were a little tricky, but nothing I couldn't handle. The real doozies were your eyes. Their beauty was, um...hard to adequately capture. I had to use a wash- that's a thin, ink-like paint that sinks into the nooks and crannies of the model- to acchieve the lifelike look I wanted. Thank both of you ladies for your compliments."

The unicorn cast his gaze around. "I have a couple more, but I don't wish to bore you ladies with them now...perhaps once our belongings are squared away I can share them with you on the train to Canterlot?"

  14. Name : Stalwart

    Gender : Male

    Gender preference (Optional) : Female

Location : Canterlot, but I enjoy traveling

    Age : Young Stallion

    Species : Pegasus

    Species preference (Optional) : None

    Cutie-Mark (Optional) : A simple stone fortress

How would you describe yourself, physically?

I am somewhat tall and rather physically fit...some might even say buff. It's necessary for me to at least look intimidating, because I'm a bodyguard for a living.

What things in life are important to you?

Being just, honorable and truthful in all things, and treating all people with fairness, regardless of who they are. Also, following one's dreams is important.

What's your idea of the ideal first date?

Someplace quiet and peaceful, where I can talk to the other pony and get to know her better. It could be a restaurant, or a park, or even a social event, as long as it's not overly distracting.

    What are you looking for?

A sweet, loving mare who I can love and care for, and who won't resent me being protective. It's in my nature. It's how I got my cutie mark, after all.

Anything else you think we should know?

I'm willing to go anywhere to meet my special somepony. It doesn't matter if they're far away; we can work something out.

  15. HighRoller nodded to Pigpen and carefully counted out the agreed upon sum of bits, tying them up neatly in a drawstring bag no doubt originally intended for the housing of dice. "Thank you, good sir. I've got a near-empty saddlebag with me, so I'll simply stow these new found treasures in it, and I can, as you said, assist these lovely ladies." He bowed his head in thanks to the generous (if hygenically challenged) stallion, and trotted over to Madam Bistro and Princess Cadance.

"I'm ready whenever you are, m'lady. I must say, it's quite a pleasure to meet you here, of all places. Just to let you know, those figures I consulted you about are already in production. I took the liberty of painting a prototype just to assure that every fine detail is in order, and I must confess I'm proud of how it turned out."

The dark blue stallion produced a small pewter miniature on a round plastic base. The detail put into the painting was astonishing. The eyes looked very lifelike, and everything else about it was equally the spitting image of its lovely subject, from the multicolored hair to the gold-plated hooves, which caught the light as if there were actually flecks of metal in the gold model paint that had been used.
