1. Developed, undeveloped, the thing that bugs me the most about King Sombra is his character design. Nightmare Moon and Queen Chrysalis did the black = evil thing so much better, without resorting to.... well.... black and red. Also, if he's just a unicorn, why on Equestria does he have fangs? It's like every single cliche evil trait was piled on to him, all the way down to glowing eyes, and a special horn. I just don't understand why they would design a villain like that when every single other character in the show, right down to the background ponies, displays visual harmony and only rarely resorts to painfully cliche colour choices.

As a villain, he's okay, but his awful design makes it that much harder to take the episode seriously.

It does make look different from the other ponies who haven't been corrupted by evil, but I do see your point

  2. I don't know, if she was inviting people to her party just to make fun of them for being blank flanks then why did Twist get to go? She had a cutie mark and nobody likes her.

Diamond Tiara teases but I have a feeling Babs Seed is going to be more deliberate and cruel. There is a difference between a person who is a jerk and teases and somebody who systematically tries to alienate and destroy a person's life. Given how many stories there have been in the last few years about the more serious bullying I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to approach it in some way

  3. For now, I operate under the assumption that the brand of magic Sombra used was of his own creation, and that almost nopony (good or evil) had the know-how to use Sombra's magic. None of the other villains seen in FiM so far have used this so-called 'dark magic', despite being malicious in their own right.

Aside from Nightmare Moon none of the other villains where ponies, and if I remember right there was an outside force that changed Luna. That could be the difference. different species have different abilities. None so far have known how to use dark magic

  4. Do people complain that Godzilla doesn't talk or that The Predator doesn't give Arnold a monologue about his motivations?

A villain doesn't need to have a personality when it isn't required. A villain can tell a story through actions, which Sombra did well. I think the episode showed him to be not fully sentient, but more of a residual force of power that remained behind. This makes him different and uniquely dangerous compared to other villains on the show since there was no way to distract, trick or appeal to him. When looked at in context Sombra works for the episode plus you get enough of his backstory and old personality to get an idea of what he was.

  5. To a lesser extend the other characters have also been developing as well. Rainbow Dash seems to have reigned in some of the brashness and fear of failure, although it isn't terribly consistent. Fluttershy is is somewhat more assertive depending on the episode, and Rarity's fashion business is growing in success. The Cutie Mark Crusaders also seem to be less obsessive over the crusading

  6. Sombra worked for what he was needed. They could have added an elaborate back story and dialogue and what not, and that would have meant taking time away from the plot and Twilight's journey which was more important. He was a destructive force of nature. We get some impressions of what he was like before he was defeated. Any more back story can be accomplished either in another episode or other medium. Its not like there aren't many other villains in medium that are very similar

  7. Season 3 episode 4 synopsis.

This must be the "bullying" episode. Wonder why they couldn't just use DT and SS? I guess they wanted to use a blank flank (assuming Babs Seed is one).

It seems like part of the plot hinges on it being a blank flank asked to join the crusaders. Its also possible the family element will be important

  8. First Marvel, with all of our favorite childhood heroes (Spider-man, Hulk, Captain America, etc). Then Lucas Films, with Star-wars, Indiana Jones. And now Hasbro, with Gi-Joe, Transformers, and of course- My Little Pony? Do you see?

Disney wants to control our future generation of children!

    They must be stopped...

Could be a ploy to make the best dang Kingdom Hearts game ever

  9. I wouldn't say Pinkie was one-noted at first. She had a mischevious streak, and clearly was a little more intelligent than she let on (she understood the basics of stealth, after all), and I got the impression she was dense in some ways but not in others (she might not know how to stop a war, but she does know the importance of keeping a friend's trust!)

That's about four or five notes right there.

Then "A Friend in Deed" is all about her being an obsessive psycho stalker....

You know what? I take it back. I love Pinkie Pie.

Pinkie Pie started out more complex and then got simplified when the writers decided to just have her do random wacky things. In season one she is pretty street smart and knows things the other ponies don't and is able to find books Twilight can't. Season two devolved her into obsessing about friendship, being random and having her panic constantly even though she was the one who giggled at the ghosties

  10. I think the tech level is overall low with the high level tech being the result of a unicorn's individual magic with little mass manufacturing.

Flim and Flam have a magic powered automobile/apple harvester but if you were to give one to an average pony it would be useless as they don't have the magic and knowledge to run it so mass production of automobiles would be pointless. Trains going to Canterlot are powered by coal, or magic but the train going to Appleoosa was not, which is sensible if you think how a tiny frontier town has fewer resources then the capital, so the rail line would be out of date

There just seems to be a large disparity although in Ponyville at least there is also quick advancement, which could be a result of Twilight being there seeing as she is both powerful and well connected.

  11. I kind of have my doubts too, to be honest. I mean the two songs that they showed us seemed incredibly forced and pointless and were relatively unremarkable when compared with other songs we've seen from the show in the past. Not to mention that the plot for the first two episodes seems like a much more blatant marketing stunt than anything they've done before. I mean, a wedding is one thing, but "the Crystal Ponies?" Seriously? For some reason this reminds me of Hasbro's stunt in the 80's Transformers where they killed off half of the main cast so that they could introduce new toys to market.

I remember a rumor was that there was going to be a song in each episode which seems forced to me since so many episodes of the past would not be improved with a song.

The preview songs I will reserve judgement for until we can see the context. They may be going for a musical thing with the premiere much like how the wedding episode had so many songs

  12. This kid actually sounds like a genius.

13 and up post again due to mentioning an R rated movie and censored cursing.

It's like V for Vendetta, he doesn't only wear the mask to hide his identity, he chose the Guy Fawkes mask to give a big "F YOU" to the bad guys.

In your opinion he's an idiot, in everyone elses he's a BAMF

The kid wore a shirt for something he didn't care about because he thought it would shock people.

He spent 20 bucks to shock people by pretending to be shocking.

  13. It depends on the width of the question.

If we're limited to just the mane six... well, I used to love Pinkie Pie, but the second season turned me against her some. I just hate how over-the-top she is now. I liked her better when she was just peppy and quirky and not a full-blown Animaniac.

Ponies in general... well... for a really heretical one, I feel like Princess Celestia is kind of bland. Like she doesn't have much personality. Though I guess that's the point.

I can't really say I "hate" any pony. I define "hate" as "their mere presence ruins the entire episode for me" and there simply is no pony like that. Although Pinkie comes close when she's the *focus* of the episode, particularly in the second season.

It seemed like the ponies got pretty Flanderized when they weren't the focus but Pinkie was still pretty one noted even in her episodes

  14. I talked to him today, he said he wasn't trying to piss off anypony who liked the show. He was trying to piss off people who hated the show. And I do agree that he could be a stable brony.

If he isn't a fan in hiding then he sounds like a huge tool
