  1. So here are the two spells:

It makes me smile to think that Starswirl the Bearded (character) might not have been as clueless as Celestia seems to suggest. Perhaps he knew exactly what he was doing.

"Secret unfinished masterpiece" is high praise for a harmful spell unless the intent and planning behind it is part of the charm.

Perhaps "he did not understand friendship like you do" was referring to the fact that Starswirl knew he would not be able to successfully cast his greatest spell given his life of solitude (WMG!), so he intentionally sabotaged it as a clue for someone else to find. Or maybe it means Starswirl was unwilling to write it correctly because he did not want to ascend, and thus couldn't write it, for fear of...

    Aside - interesting magic lore:

The spell did nothing when Twilight said it out loud, but transcribing the sentence and especially the period invoked it without her repeating it. This may be the way all new magic works the first time, or just the way certain special spells work for the first time.

...invoking it and becoming a prince when he had reasons not to do so.

I don't think the spell made Twilight a princess. It appears creating a new magic did. Starswirl might have been unable to finish the spell because he didn't have the knowledge of friendship to create the new magic

  2. When I re-watched bthe episode, I noticed a huge plot-hole, what did Celestia, Luna, and Cadance do to become Alicorns? Did they have to completeba magic spell as well? This episode also did some major retconning on the Alicorns. In S1E1, it's heavily implied that Luna & Celestia always were, now that may not be the case. Finally, the whole Alicorn thing does seem to hinge on The Elements of Harmony.

A plot hole is a contradiction of the plot. The show has never said anything about what the other princesses did to become alicorns. There is no plot hole.

  3. Yeah, it was totally lame how Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash solved all the problems on the show by flying. An intense action show like My Little Pony needs to keep the fighters balanced or the enemies they battle won't be engaging.

But for reals, I enjoyed the episode. It would have been nice to see more of the ponies in their messed up state but I felt that it was well paced and making it a musical served to get the scenes done rather quickly without feeling awkward and rushed. I feel it works well as a transition to next season but holds up as its own story. It would have been nice if the Hub could have let the song over the credits play, but I guess they paid Ms America so they had to get the most out of her as possible

  4. 1. Aside from the entire point of the episode being how they want the games to be held ther I guess they thought the small children who watch the show could fill in the gaps without the characters looking at the camera and saying "The games are very important. That is why we are acting like the games are important"

    2. Yup, nothing should ever exist if it can't be given to everybody. Olympics should be cancelled because it can't be held in every city. Resturunts banned unless you buy food for everybody in the world. Better get off the internet, some people don't have internet. You are basically murdering them with dissapointment

  5. Rainbow Dash talking about her disappointment makes sense for the character in Hurricane Fluttershy who got people pumped to do their best. By describing how she was disappointing and saying how they will not let the crystal ponies feel the same way Rainbow Dash motivated the other ponies to do their best by giving them an emotional link to those they were helping.

  6. Ginger, I know you seem to be unable or unwilling to be objective when looking at motivations of the characters, and feel that any character who doesn't directy do what you personally want is wrong, but I really hope you undestand why somebody could have a personal bias towards one group or another. Dash has thrown her hat in with the crystal empire, that doesn't mean cheering for them means she is trying to rob other ponies of happiness
