  1. That sounds... pretty logical. O_o

But why was Starswirl trying to change the destiny of a pony in the first place? :shifty:

Theory based wholly on my fan-fic canon:

Star-Swirl is court-wizard and advisor to the Unicorn king and queen, (princess Platinums parents), and understands the events that are occurring in the run up to those presented in Hearths warming eve. Thus he attempts to create a spell to derail these events (He rightly or wrongly believes that the king and queen are destined to be the end of the Unicorn kingdoms). Whether it works, is mis-cast and affects the princess or indeed has no effect and it turns out that while the unicorn kingdom ceases to be, princess Platinum causes the unicorns to survive*, (as per HWE), is open to interpretation.

    *As is her destiny?

  2. Try writing a short piece, 'properly' for want of a better word BUT try not to get too attached to it. Then release it into the wild and ask for criticism. Unless you're perfect off the bat you'll receive criticism, hopefully constructive, and then you take that and use it on pieces you start caring about. Depending on where you release it you may see why I suggested not becoming too attached.

Another thing, if you have the time and patience, is to ensure you let it sit periodically and read it from the start now and then to give it a 'fresh pair of eyes', You'd be surprised how many things you pick up yourself. (E.g. my personal habit is to assume all readers have my exact level of knowledge on world lore or even 'head-canon' and then not bothering to explain things. I was always getting picked up for this at school when writing stories based on my D&D exploits...)

  3. Interesting idea and we have already had a funeral in the show  (Would Sweetie Belle attend?) Could they do it? I have no doubt the writers could handle it well. but I hope they do not broach the subject. As well as introducing death such a show may (have to?) discuss after death. It is one thing to hint at it (Apple family reunion) but if, as the comic, there is going to be a large discussion on it... Well, there are smaller cans of worms.

Is Twilight in [religion] [good place]?

Does she, as per the show, believe her friends are with her? (Implications for every pony who has passed on)

Would two friends who have passed on meet up or live in their own [good place]?

    On and on and on....

  4. I liked Bester from Babylon 5. He was a powerful enough villain for the cast, individually (A high powered psychic), and politically (part of governmental secret police), to be a constant challenge when needed but one they could not simply ignore or erase. I also liked his more human moments, (He pines/yearns for a lost love and laments the very society and organisation that gives him his political clout for example). I also like his casual arrogance and assumption of having power which plays to his advantage at times as many don't question him even when they could or should.

  5. 1) Absolutely. Half (approx) the people the audience, intended or not, are going to meet will be male, so for the younger audience it is good to give an impression of the world, for the older audience it makes the world/story more 'real' *

    2) Overall I like it, it shows both good and bad and often explains or hints at why they are good or bad. See reasoning above.

    3) Tricky, because that can be so subjective. Personally I like big Mac but is that because I'm often shy myself? Filthy Rich would probably do well as the protagonist in an 80's movie, especially with his 'down to earth' family background. A self made family if not a self made man (or is he?). I would like to make friends with a guy like Fancy pants because of his open mindedness and general 'Good guy' status. (Or am I just trying to get access to his money, connections and lifestyle due to my own 'less than upper-class' upbringing?).

    4) Initially I had this impression about Snips and Snails, it seemed like they, (the writers), had taken the 'Haha look at the silly boys, right girls?' route that seems to go in and out of popularity with sit-coms but due to the show having other positive and interesting male characters I think that may not be the case or a one-off. (Either way I'm not as flank-hurt about it as I used to be)

*In as much as it helps with suspension of disbelief because, you know, magical talking ponies.

    Also

Hey, what are you doing calling Thunderlane a slacker? Is it because of that one time Rainbow Dash called him lazy? He was ill! You think that talent happens overnight? You don't know what he goes though, man! Get off his back!

  6. Very good show, like the take that/reminder about historical fashion  . My favourite quote was 'Good has no target demographic' . Bravo Beeb.

EDIT: kick me for my assumptions, bravo to the university student producer, Matt Barnes, and BBC Voices for their involvement.

  7. I don't understand your post, unless you are lamenting the ugly dresses.

They are so bad, that they took me out of the moment. There was a brief window when I hoped that they had intentionally dressed down to make twilight's gown all the more spectacular, but hers was sub-standard as well.

    ;-

It was more about the comments they are getting (My design knowledge is limited to like/okay/dislike). It boils down to :- A is a Pinkie/art of the dress reference where the designer was harangued into making a decision she didn't like, B is a budding designer lamenting the bad press she's getting (with a reference to another designer we know getting stressed). Should have gone with my original idea for B and have unnamed designer complaining about Rarity designs....

  8. A couple of thoughts on the royal dresses...

    Option A

It should be covered in stars because I am Princess of the night and put some clouds on it, mystical clouds! Mystical clouds for dreams! It should look regal though, so make it purple but not that 'Royal purple' that everypony uses.... trim it with gold as well, I don't see why Celestia should be the only princess who... Ooh a crown, a gold crown, with my cutie mark on it.

    Don't you already...?

    WHO'S DRESS IS THIS?

    Option B

In a small house in Fillydelphia, a young mare is crying on her friends shoulder.

    'Everypony hates them!'

'Oh, that's not true. They were a really pretty design and the Princesses loved them.'

    'You're just saying thaaaaaat'

  9. Handsome-Mac: "Oh, yeah, and since you shiver-brains evidently don't know how to listen, I'll say it again: stop bringing in fake Alicorns. Only six Alicorns can exist in the universe at any given time, and I already know of three - you're not gonna convince me you happened to find one of the remaining three just by gluing wings on some random mare. I will admit, it was mildly amusing the first dozen times you idiots tried it, but now my office smells like glue and feathers. So quit it!"*

    *With relevant apologies.

  10. ERMERGERD!

Complete aside, and I have to give credit to youtube comments for this.

Twilights cutie mark: Purple star surrounded by five white stars

Twilicorn transformation and cutie mark (split second seen, implied from shape when top covered by wings*): Purple star surrounded by six white stars.

*Twilight mark has one star at "5 o'clock", Twilicorn has two and if you look it hasn't been reversed.

    Also: Exactly, Weesh.

EDIT: Ack, I stand corrected. I was hovering round the part where RD lifts her wings where a poor angle makes it look like 6 white. In the conversation with Celestia, with the thrice-cursed hub logo* making things difficult, it is five. Only six as the symbol during her return from the Astral and her coat of arms (forelegs?) banner carried by the hoofmaidens.

*Hub logo is responsible for my missing a subtle and powerful point during 'Luna Eclipsed'

  11. I gotta love how upset everybody is over Twilight being over powered as a princess and how she no longer fits in with the group despite the complete lack of any sort of proof.

I hate how as a princess Twilight no longer likes eating apples. This is something I have decided has happened.

It may just be (a fair assumption?) due to the nature of what has happened. As a real world example, do you believe that friends of the Duchess of Cambridge react in exactly the same way as a few years ago? Is it likely that she herself reacts the same way to strangers trying to make friends as she used to?

While I will agree that 'wild mass guessing' is never going to be valid, I can understand the assumption that the group dynamic will/has change/d.

Unrelated to the above comment, D&D inspired idea below.

One of the stock backstories in D&D, heck in fantasy, is the search for immortality/longevity and how it can and does go horribly wrong. Thus we have Celestia and Luna who have achieved it well (Preserver/Avangion), we have Cadence and Twilight who are on the path but could go either way, we have Sombra who 'fell' (lich or Defiler/dragon), we have Starswirl who tried and failed (due to old age or circumstance) and of course those who don't know or care about such things. (Everyday people and many mages).

  12. First thought:

Continuing thought. Dimensional shift or Discord going into remission.

    Pony Sunburn is canon!

Dangit Starswirl, what is it with you unicorns and your mind control!

    Critters with pitchforks!

What were the Apple family's thoughts on 'Applepie'? (Or Pinkamina Diane Jack)

    Spells rhyme?

Let those who threaten, beware, beware

We will not fight, with air, with air

We mould our weapons with care, so there

    Be metallurgical might!

EDIT: Oopsie. Credit to Alan Dean Foster. This is from one of the 'Spellsinger' Books.

Celestia, my Goddess, your voice! :kissy:

Wait, if that was Starswirls spell, would he have become a Princess if he'd succeeded?

    Dem handmaidens!

    'Liquid pride'? Very much so.

Really nice to see the crystal ponies included as background ponies now. Inclusive society is the way forward.

What is on your head Luna?

    Ermergerd! !

Like other massively lore changing episodes, some parts felt a little rushed and acceptance of the new world a little too quick and easy but I did really enjoy that episode. It will be fascinating to see where the show will go from here considering that not only is Twily your god now but one of the elements is changed/missing.

    TL;DR SONGS!

    Also: 'Weather patterns' teehee

  13. As with everything, I'll give it a chance, see how it plays out but it does raise questions with me....

Are there not enough shows with this new premise already?

Will Fluttershy and RD be able to fly & will Rarity and Twily be able to use magic/TK?

Actually, I will leave it at that.... there are just too many questions/possibilities about mixing the lore of Equestria and the real world. (If the new show is set there.)

  14. Ok, not a lawyer so no idea how any of that works but would it be possible to:

From the ethical/fighting perspective, grey the ponies out and have it as a side story to the 'Return of harmony' episodes? How the Mane six were acting to each other before Twilight regained her senses...

If that would be able garner Hasbro acceptance, is there not some way to legally say 'We are giving this permission, we are not giving them intellectual property/copyright ownership'. State the game was contracted out and ask for a percentage perhaps?

Even with copyright laws being what they are, the people who watch the figures must know what open fandom does for their sales* so I find it odd that 'something' cannot be done.

Anticipatory sadface for if/when they go after Ponykart. :(

*See lack of youtube episode takedowns. Scaremongering & small shots aside if Hasbro really wanted them gone, they would be.
