  1. Pick whatever topic you want. Knowing now that your thread of the week won't be about the quality of the topic or posts but rather just how interesting someone on the team found it, I understand why you picked Quick Kisses. I still disagree, but I get it. And that's fine! But for future reference, make sure to note when thread of the week comes up to say that it isn't about how good it is but if someone on the team noticed it and found it interesting, and also just make sure to remember that people who are not here on Canterlot may hear the podcast and check out what you say to check out. In a sense you are going to be somepony's first link to Canterlot RP! It's a great and exciting privilege and responsibility to bare. I can tell you the exact reason I'm so mehhhh about the thread.

I was trying to get a few people I know who RP to move over to the site. They're a prickly bunch when it comes to committing, since once they do they tend to go all-out. They've been RPing the same two things for eight years and still devote a lot of time to it, and this would be a big sink as well. So I give them the podcast, talking up the creativity of the fans here- they loved how y'all did the podcast, by the way. They also loved the intro song. They were excited about the first two segments and then Thread of the Week hit, they found it, and now I have to combat the perception that every thread is like that. They are semi-trolling me because we're close like that and they have said they're fine with people RPing that way, but based on that RP I can't tell them that Canterlot.com offers them something unique and awesome.

Which is crazy because we totally are awesome! You guys created a great podcast, how epic is that? But it's hard to make outsiders interested in RPing interested in the RP here when they can't see the difference between what they just saw and any other RP they could have with ponies on any forum or chat room. So again, it isn't because the thread was awful- as I said, it wasn't. Not my cup of tea but really not that big a deal. It has more to do with how a podcast that can now be found on EQD advertises the forum that spawned it. And if Quick Kisses esque RPs are the type that you wanna advertise, that's fine. I won't like it, but I also don't like Bronyville's intro song, Everfree Radio's constant meme use during episode reviews, and most podcasts I hear in a nutshell.

I apologize the choice of thread caused a personal issue but perhaps you should explain to your friends that this is one of literally thousands of threads on this site and one does not represent the bunch, that was the entire idea of spreading around the highlights so that we werent always nominating the threads with the best writing or quality. If you want your friends to see the kind of rp you believe sets a good example then YOU can show it to them, we dont cater to any one user we aim to be the voice of everypony here. This way we give a broad foundation for the type of rp to be found here. Please no more discussion on this topic, thank you.

  2. The rest of the podcast team has read your comments and I speak for all of them when I say that we would like for this debate to end before things get too heated. We have taken all of your opinions into account and will keep them in mind when next we choose a thread of the week. Please allow us to do the rest of the debating (for we have rpers of all skill levels and expereince on the the team allowing for a wide base) to avoid any further conflict, at least on this thread, thank you :)

  3. That sounds lovely- and a little bit scary haha! Perhaps I can work something out if I can get a microphone that will do the trick. If not that specifically, I would be more than happy to sit down at a time that works for you guys and do a QandA session about the topic, and/or others. Lets talk, and see what we come up with :)

wonderful! :) once we get everybody together we can try to figure out the times we can get together and chat as of now its still difficult getting the group together but once everypony is on board Im sure we can figure something out

  4. I think the discrepancy may be in how one views the Thread of the Week selection. Is it selected as something fun and accessible that listeners could join in on, or is it is an honor to be given to choice threads that deserve special recognition? It's still early, so it's not particularly well defined what exactly makes a thread Thread of the Week.

I can understand what SteelEagle is saying when it comes to this selection. it's a suitably fun concept for a thread, but a lot of threads have fun concepts. I don't see much in it that makes it really stand out as a prime example of an RP thread. I'm not going to say much about post quality. I don't try to judge on that; I RP with all sorts on this site and I enjoy most all my threads just fine, no matter who they're with. At the same time, it is pretty easy to look at a thread like the one selected with a lot of short, one-two line posts and then look back at some of the giant posts SteelEagle gives me in our RPs (an example) and some of the ones I've posted in reply and sympathize with his dislike of this selection. RPs are all going to be different, so comparing them is somewhat problematic, but at the very least different RPs require different amounts of work, and when that work is passed over for something requiring noticeably less effort on the part of the poster, it can definitely lead to frustration.

Thread of the week is about more than just one thing. It will be used for more than just one purpose, so if we a thread that has some truly excellent rping and could use some attention we will do a spotlight for it. If we see a thread that looks like a lot of fun and could use some love, we will spotlight it. Like I said not everyone has the skill or necessary time to develop that skill to rp at your level and steel eagles. In fact I'd wager most members here dont have that capacity. So please keep this in mind that we are looking not just for great writing but fun and ability to be enjoyed by all. As I said if we see a thread that really deserves a spotlight for some truly phenominal rping fear not that it will have its day in the sun, and also

and yes rosewind that wiill certainly make for interesting discussion :D

  5. if you'd be willing be a guest on the podcast for another more detailed segment on HoE manestream we'd be happy to have you! :)

and steel eagle would you mind clarifying what you mean that you disagree with the thread so we can improve?

  6. and like Xiee said I am a bit offended by all the hate it gets.

I have to agree, I have a thread (on hiatus atm) in crossovers called "no lands end" that I have poured my heart and soul into. Its met with fantastic rp and what I feel is a very intriguing story. And there are more than a few others worth checking out!

  7. yeah I agree with SRG and Rosie both. I try to balance it out by taking ONLY the ideas that wont fly in mane rp to crossovers. So if I want to have a nice quiet evening in the park im not going to do it in ffa or crossovers. I go to crossovers for my daily dose of violence and and maturity, so it balances out quite well for me like that :)
