1. Needlemouse: I can't argue with what you're saying.

Since I started this thread let me say that at least personally my concern isn't out of some persecution complex.

I like the show because I like the show. I was a fan and watched it and talked about it with my family for a year before I ever bothered to look for anything pony related onthe web. Generally I'm not a fandom type. Good or bad I'm inclined to go left if the crowd goes right.

But I saw a fandom that responded to negativity with positive feedback, not hate.

Now I see a group that were started by young, bright-eyed types hoping to be a safe place for all ages getting over run by people that seem offended when they are politely asked not to post vulgar profanities in the group and tell this kid what he can do in graphic terms. Other avenues seems similarly affected when I look at them.

I just worry about that path and damage from the inside, not the outside.

  2. Not for the show, but the fandom.

I have seen signs of some of these things that have made me uneasy as well.

A good 1 point example is a MLP Facebook group I am in that started out nice and fun that had an attempted coup d'état against one of the founders and had an ugly row for a bit. Now there is a very vulgar section popping that get hateful when reminded to keep it PG and honestly are making me less likely to visit the group.

I know there are other incidences like this out there. Are we starting a melt down from within?

  3. While I did my share of downloading music when I was young and the internet was a lawless wasteland, ( O_O ) I actually try very hard to stay on the up and up these days and actually use legitimately free software and buy music, or get it through real free downloads. Heck I've paid for music I could get for free on those "pay what it's worth to you" deals because I honestly liked it that much. (Most recently it was pony tunes by PinkiepieSwear)

Yes I copied the episodes off YouTube, but I WILL buy the season disks when they come out if my heavy handed hints for Christmas bring them not.

But THIS article bears the primary justification you see and feel for piracy. Copyright and trademark law has gone off the rails. I'm not saying piracy is right. it's not. But neither is what a lot of companies do, unfortunately there is no requirement that laws be rooted in morality, reason, or these days even sanity.

  4. It's not that as much as using self-hypnosis so much that you have a constant audio-visual hallucination, and you make yourself believe that it is speaking to you and you're not choosing what it says.

Several years ago I was on a bit of a spiritual exploration. I studied a lot of different religions and at the time was studying paganism and had been meditating a lot and was doing grounding exercises. One night I managed to hit that spot of complete peace you read about while meditation on my path and I had, for lack of a better term, a vision. This woman whose appearance kept shifting was there and spoke to me about the path I was on. The incident had quite an impact, but I haven't ever been able to reproduce even the utter calm I reached that night.

So now I've lapsed back into cynicism and figure I must have lapsed into sleep and dreamed it, but I did have my "Holy Spirit" moment once. I can't imagine being able to create an experience like that at will.

  5. This is a normal occurrence for authors.

I just finished a book (in the last legs of e-publishing) and the main character has been with me for almost 20 years. She had a story she wanted told. I've discovered that she doesn't always do what I want her to do either. The muse completely shuts down if I don't write the story the way she wants.

There are no voices in my head. She doesn't communicate directly with me like that, but I do have dreams and sometimes I'll have this flash in my head and an entire scene will be in my mind. The actions, dialog, everything there intact.

Not sure if it's the same kind of thing though.

  6. I deal with it on and off. Mainly I have trouble falling asleep. I can sleep long enough if I don't have to get up, but it takes forever to fall asleep so I'm dragging after the alarm goes off at 5. (or like tonight, 2AM)

I also have back problems and one of my pain meds will really screw with my sleep cycle. So I can be out of pain and not able to sleep, or not sleep well due to the pain. Neither is restful. :x

INTJ - "Mastermind". Introverted intellectual with a preference for finding certainty. A builder of systems and the applier of theoretical models. 2.1% of total population.

Since I had a tie i hit refresh and got ISTJ - "Trustee".

  8. I really like the idea of making the companies pay for incarceration. In fact I think that there are a lot of petty or victimless crimes that it would be nice if we could ask the People if the cost of incarceration was worth it for the offense.

I also agree that the cost or reparations needs to be more realistic.

I remember reading about an RIAA suit that was asking for such a high per-song fine (based on the idea of revenue lost due to the theft by illegal downloading them) that an iPod of downloaded music would have a higher value than all of the money on Earth.

  9. I can think of one thing much worse! But then I don't think I could state it.

I saw a fake ad generated for a line of shall we say "adult entertainment items" so convincing I had to hunt to make sure they weren't real, or alternately to know to organize a riotous mob if they were.

  10. If I was going to put a pony on the package for gloves Lyra would be the one!

I want a bright orange belt sander with three apples on the handle, jessayin'.

Well Black and Decker is already orange. All you'd need is the Applejack cutiemark temp-tattoo and some polyurethane.

  11. I saw a lot on mentions of them on /mlp/ too and looked them up.

Rooted in Buddhism and other heavily spiritualist belief systems. Which surprised me because I've read several books on Buddhism and not come across the term, but Buddhism was forefront in the explanations I saw.

  12. You mean the android app? I got it too. Love the squee sound (labeled as Fluttershy grin) but it needs a way to script a sequence of sounds... With that and the ability to forward the sound on a ongoing call the possibilities would be like... Endless...

That's the one, and I agree!

And flutterscotch hit it I think. He's the same way with Link and the Zelda games in general. :P

If only he would remember what chores I gave him that well!

  13. One thing I always found funny is that nopony is every surprised or annoyed that Rainbow Dash crashes through people's ceilings or on their windows.

Is it really that normal in Equestria to have pegasuseseses crashing into things? Is everypony ensured or something, or is there free repair for specific accidents? :/

Maybe it's just that normal for Rainbow Dash to crash into things in Ponyville. She probably has a special liability policy.

Rumor has it that she can afford it. :smug:
