Well, I found a way to wrap it up. I don't really feel like I did the mane 6 true justice, but I gave it what I had and that story is done. 14 chapters, 20K words.
Now to figure out what to do next.

I think of colt being a boy and fily being a girl just like a mare means woman and a stallion means a man.
Now a pony can use colt for example as a derrogitory term like "Stop acting like a silly colt and be a stallion!"
Also Filly and colt can be a generic term like "fillies and gentlecolts." ("Ladies and Gentlemen") This is to imply that the announcement is for all regardless of age where as something like "mares and stallions," might indicate an announcement might be for older ponies.
Also you have coltfriend and fillyfriend (boyfriend/ girlfriend).
All about semantics really.
Ditto
And that word "semantics" keeps coming up lately!
Try reading the web with Ponify turned on. It will cause brain damage after long term use.

That's interesting, I've seen some that look like they just have 2 lit. Of course I work in a printing plant so I fully understand how inconsistent such a subtle coloring difference can be.

Were there ponies that had wings AND horns prior to G4? What were they called back then? Do any of the packages of princess ponies have a type on them?
The collectible trading cards list the type for each pony. The Princesses are listed as unicorns and pegasus, but earth pony isn't highlighted.

Show canon wise, Celestia, Luna, and Cadence were just called Princesses rather than a pony type.
Well there was the one time where Twilight refers to Cadance as a unicorn.....
(Just picking nits... )

Raridash? No thanks! Applejack is by far the best ship for Rarity.
They are the only two we have seen in bed together on screen....
(I shouldn't have gone there should I....)
For me any CMC ships are just wrong. Wrong.
Edit to note that for whatever reason when I clicked on this I didn't see any more than the first page, didn't know I was doing a zombie-ish reply.

The CMCs are like a pie. Only together are they great. Apart they are just a pile of mush and a crumbly dry mess.

Have we ever seen 'mature' themes from this show?
I don't know about themes, but the style of the show I would consider more "mature" than a lot of other shows. Especially ones targeted at kids.
A lot of the humor is subtle and nuanced, with a lot going on in subtext. This beats the "beat-you-over-the-head" style a lot of shows use.
There are a ton of little things going on in the background that add to the flavor of the story. For me little things like Twilight going "Please tell me she's not," when Pinkie Pie started singing "Giggle at the Ghostie" add a ton to the show that you don't always see in kid's shows.

I had actually considered the possibility that she, in all reality, has the most realistic personality. I think that fits with what you are saying about complexity.

So I am writing a fan fic over on FimFiction (Shameless Plug) and found writing for Rarity very hard. I even went so far as to spend a lot of the evening looking at Rarity clips on YouTube trying to "find" her character. Everypony else seems to have some baseline that I felt I could work from without being too trope with them.
Rarity on the other hand is all over the map. And I personally feel like there is a big difference between S1 Rarity and S2 Rarity. Her dramatics and style are consistent, but it feels like her moral compass is spinning wildly.
Is this just me or does anypony else see this?
I know that Rarity had a solid following. Can somepony point out some solid ground with her for me?

I went in this weekend and started a hold/order for it at our local comic shop. So they're going to be looking for it, order it and let me know when it's in. Sometimes small local shops are nice. The one I went to in our local "big city" wasn't nearly as good with the customer service.

Here's an very positive article on Wired.com "In Defense Of Bronies".
Thanks for sharing that article!
Sorry to bring an old topic back to life..Couldn't find any other topics that would fit..
A Professional Assessment of Twilight Sparkle as a Librarian
A rather interesting little article on TS's librarian skills...Or lack of..
OK, that was a great, funny read.

I liked that. It's an interesting premise on magic in general, not just for the Ponyverse.
I may borrow some of that reasoning for gaming!

Posted it last night. Probably do another one in a day or two.
I don't think I'm happy with Rarity. I couldn't keep her from seeming... off.
Trying to get a baseline for her, even going so far as to get on YouTube and watch clips. Her reactions are just so all over the map that I can't pin down what she would do. There seems to be a huge variation between Rarity in S1 and in S2 a lot of the time too. *sigh* I may make a thread on her to see if it's just me.

While we were out I hit a Wal-Mart in a nearby town looking for more cards, which I found. (Yay! but I keep getting the same cards a lot...boo)
They had the plush dolls. Debated getting a Twilight. They had a lot of slots for the mini-sets, but non there. I wonder if they were out or not stocked yet.
They also had blue blind-bags with the mettallic/gem ponies. So those have hit central Illinois. This is the first time I have seen ones other than the wave-1 bags. Too bad I don't want that style.

Added to read list. Should I post y opinions on FiMFiction or here?
Whichever works better for you.
I appreciate the read!

Just added a new chapter. 9 so far. I have the "base" chapters for everyone but Fluttershy done. I hope I'm doing the Mane 6 characters justice. I expected Rarity to be the hardest but she didn't seem to be (if I got her right). Applejack still holds the lead by a wide margin of having been the hardest to write for. Fluttershy may be a challenge too. She is so often subject to stereotyping.
We'll see. I hope the ponies tell me where this is heading soon!

I went looking for cards in our local Wal-Marts again. Both have had empty boxes on the shelf for over a week!
They had the mini 3-packs in though. The Apple family packs looked good, though I doubt I get that one. The wedding set was the only other one they had. All I can say is, "What the HAY!" The color for Cadance is horrible-horrible-horrible! If she had been the color of the big Celestia I would have grabbed a set. But she is a deep neon purple. Um, no. How is it they get the colors right on everypony else but they can hit a Princess at all? GGGGRRRRR.

Something I've thought about is doing a henna version of anything I consider getting a tat of. That way I can have a trial run before I decide to get a permanent ink job.
-
You have just described my reaction to the fan fic, well not the apples but the rest off it. I know this might not be the best decision but there is a sequel to the fic. Just click here.
Thanks for linking that. I had no idea that was out there.

Never had the intention of getting a tattoo. I just see no point in them.
And unfortunately, Pony won't sway my opinion. Just a VERY big life decision that I may regret at some point later in life that I'm not willing to make...
I can't say I disagree with you. In general I understood people like military folks that got unit insignias or branch arms done. That is a life defining thing for a lot of people and I respect that. The kindergartener like skulls and what-not I've seen people I know get however.
(I used to work with a guy that got a tat and found out later it was a gang sign and had horrible-botched removal surgery that left him looking like a farm accident victim.)
But I am finding that as I get older I'm less opposed to the idea rather than more. Maybe it's because I won't have as long to regret it as I did when I was younger.

I'd park in the handicap spaces at the mall.
And walk around in the summertime saying "How about this heat?"

Tyler Durden, but I'd like to skip the bullet hole in the face part.
But Weesh's idea is brilliant. People need a villain so giving them a "genuine" evil to rally against would actually (probably) be a force for good.
(Now that I think about it I don't like getting punched in the face too much either.... May have to rework the angle a bit...)

From the USA. Open my front door and all you see is corn. Open the back and it's beans to the horizon.... *sigh*
Never been to another country, but want to go somewhere that actually has a deep history/culture.
As far as refuting, even in the US there is a lack of understanding at how huge and diverse the USA is compared to most other countries. I've traveled a little bit and even being in country I've been to whole other worlds here.
