  1. I think it's a really neat idea. The real trick is going to be be finding a way to make it self sustaining once it is rolling.

The mode of standing in line in a store and quizzing a fellow patron seems like it would have less "work" issues tied to is, though capturing it on video may be more problematic.

I agree that the description, while I had no problem following it, could stand to be distilled down a bit.

  2. :TSparkle: Twilight is best pony! She is the pony I relate to the most. Including the insecurity and insanity. My wife will go and move my ponies just to see how long it takes my head to explode because, "that's not how they go!" I can see Twi being very OCD about her things.

I also love Celestia. I like her personality, her look. Just her in general. If she got more show time I'd probably bump her up.

Fluttershy fights hard for a top spot too, but since I am married to a woman who could have been the personality model for her, I figure I have my own Fluttershy, no need to cling to the one on the show too much. (I really, really can't stress how much alike they are.)

I got a Rose Luck in a blind bag the other day and really liked it. She's such a pretty pony. Now I'm noticing her in the show all the time, and finding a lot of fan art I hadn't caught before. Moar Rose Luck!!!!

  3. I have a feeling that most everypony here is going to have some overlap.

    • J.R.R. Tolkien 'Nuff said.
    • C.J. Cherryh - The Paladin
    • Katherine Kurtz
    • J. K. Rowling
    • Asimov's Foundation series.

I have tons of old-ish sci-fi and fantasy series that I love.

Heck, I just like BOOKS! :TSparkle:

  4. I must have had connection issues. The first one the audio came through a lot lower than the 2nd one, and it seemed jumpy to me.

I found the first one more entertaining, there were certainly a lot of good fan nods in the first one.

I've seen the second one before. I'm guessing it was a lot earlier promo. ...? before a lot of fandom had developed. Wasn't it all season 1 clips too?

  5. It's a reasonable fear, and one I have a tiny bit of as well, just not a great deal.

I think a lot of what is seen as fandom nods may just be due to the fact that the crew is a bunch of geeks of a similar vein as the Brony community. As a result they throw in a bunch of pop culture in-jokes that we get and love, but aren't aimed directly at us as much as they are personally entertaining to the folks doing the work. The fact that it works for us is a bonus.

  6. Either of the other big bads we've had could easily work into this as well. Discord could simply turn her by force. And if he were to escape imagine the chaos Nightmare Moon would cause. Not to mention giving the Mane 6 a much more imminent threat, leaving him to run amok.

Chrysalis could simply take her place. Not as a power grab, but out of revenge. She wouldn't even have to imprison her. Just make sure not to be in the same place. Let suspicion take root as Luna seems to switch between personalities at random. Or better yet, show up while Luna is away and work to drive a wedge in Equestria and Luna returns for the last confrontation.

    And now I can't stop.....

  7. A lot of shows in prime time have gone to a 2- 1/2 seasons format. (a block of new episodes with a large gap in the middle filled with a second act to end the season) Maybe they are doing this. It would be a no lose plan. Make a full season if the fan base stays rabid. Scale production values et. all back if things start to drop off. Spread the cost out over the season instead of banking it all up front.

It also allows them to respond faster to fan elements. See how we react to elements in the first half of the season and then put in more of what worked, dump what didn't in the 2nd half. Add in cameos of the BG ponies that everypony likes. Ability to make things more "topical."

Maybe this is a good plan and not the end of days.

  8. I am working on the final draft of my first novel, and the first draft of the 2nd book in the series. I hope to submit #1 to publishers this year. If I can't get it done the regular way I will self publish in ebook format, but that's a failsafe plan.

I have ideas for at least 3 other fantasy books brewing as well.

SOMETHING I write will be published!

  9. Well that's getting installed today!

    >I've had it going for a while now. Works fine. I may have to go to a whitelist setting instead of blacklist. I like having my pony sites ponified and FaceBook is funny with everypony apparently using ponyspeak. But it makes reading the news just plain strange.<

  10. For whatever reason I always find myself interested in things on the fringe. I'm into historical reenactment, (which at least I have a good base for local activity and involvement there) and D&D (which is at least more socially acceptable now than it was when I started over 20 years ago *sigh* 20 years ago....).

But I also was drawn to Paganism, generally, and Wicca in particular, for a while. Now I find myself more of a Secular Humanist. But this is in an area, which as I've observed before, is known for the 200 ft tall cross by the interstate. So not exactly good hunting on the social interaction there.

And now I'm part of an awesome fanbase for an awesome show. But isolated locally in that. I know of one other Brony in my reenactment group, but she lives hours away. (and I think I may have somehow upset her now)

And I hesitate to be too open about it socially since a lot of the people I know are somewhat uber-macho. (A dear friend and neighbor is an ex-military, prison guard, and top level armored fighter. And has a personality type to fit the history.)

The internet is awesome, and helps a lot, but for those of us that are not in metro areas with the possibility of meeting others with these shared interests:

How do you cope? It gets a bit depressing to be alone in ones enthusiasm sometimes.

One a unrelated side note: I am going to donate soon. As part of that I think I want to change my username to something more ponified. I'm using the name I chose in the SCA now, but I'm blank on what a good option would be.

  11. SQUEEEEEE!!!!!!!

I will be getting this. I like the art (even if I do think I like Katie's overall style better) and am hugely glad that the folks involved are fans in their own right.

While I think some of the more adult leaning stuff Andy does is funny I hope that doesn't leak too much into the comic. The innocent, sweet nature of the show is one of its biggest draws for me. I don't know if I could reconcile overly "grown-up" stuff.
