  1. I feel old now. I got an email not too long ago saying something about my account being active for 13 years (I started it in late 1998/ early 1999. Not sure exactly when) I was 23. :P

So am I a dinosaur for still using Yahoo?

But to echo others, you'd regret it later. Time capsules are neat.

  2. So I hope I'm not rehashing an old topic. I tried looking through older threads before starting this one.

I'm new on here and want to follow the correct etiquette.

I'm curious about the regularity of the use of personal ponynouns. (somepony, everypony, et al.)

I've seen them used, not used, and ran across at least one disparaging comment on their use at all.

I don't use them IRL at all, but it's my natural impulse when posting about ponies. But I don't want to ruffle feathers either.

And on the subject of unwritten rules of forums.....

I've been on boards before where you'll get grief-ed clean off the board if you start a new thread about an old topic.

Do I need to be afraid to post without doing an exhaustive search first?

    Thanks!

    :)

  3. My initial though on the Alicorn question was that she is a princess. Perhaps that is a distinction. Royal family and all that.

And there just isn't room to discuss every pony that could be in the show. There has to be a first appearance whenever it may be.

It's like Shining Armor being twilight's brother without us having heard of him before. Bit the rest of the Mane 6 obviously had.

We don't get to see every conversation or interaction the ponies have... :-(

  4. I don't understand where all the "hostility" for Princess Celestia comes from either.

She's very similar to Prof. Dumbledore in her story role. (though he gets a lot of flak as well)

As a mentor it's her job to let Twilight and the rest of the Mane 6 take the lead on things.

As for a canonization? I agree with the need for a long term "big-bad." And maybe we have that after the S2 finale. It wouldn't even need to be obvious all the time. She can look like anypony.

  5. I understand the sentiment. But I think it's an overwrought concern.

I was a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. In my opinion Season 2 was the best in it as well. It went on for 7 seasons. There were some truly bad moments in there, but in the end it went out with a bang and left us on an awesome note.

If MLP:FiM were to end now it would be like Firefly. Leaving a huge, rabid fan base that feels shortchanged.

I have moments where I dread the time when the magic of the show fades for me too. I'm sure it will. Nothing can be exciting and "ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!" forever, but that doesn't mean it isn't good anymore, just not "new." So when I have those moments I watch a favorite episode and smile a lot.

  6. @MyLittlePonyTales That would be the one!

@Davroth: Certainly not on the underwear part! The group I'm in, the SCA (very google-able without the full name) generally shoots for the "10 foot rule." If it looks ok from 10 feet away it's good. There are some that go the whole 9 yards but they're the inority. For the first couple years all that's expected is an attempt at medieval. I've met some of the groups that critisize fabric choices, and buttons and all that. Doesn't sound fun to me.

@SilverMint: We have several kinds of combat. All of it is live, though the Rapier, which has steel blades, is touch calibration. Though "touch" is usually a bit more than what touch implies.

I'm actually the head of the youth combat program in our state. Foam weapons for the kids. :)

  7. Thanks for the welcome.

I realized after I posted I forgot to add: I'm trying to hook my wife. She is an exact personality match for Fluttershy. Which made her mad until she saw a few parts she identified with enough to want to finish the episodes. Now she has embraced her Fluttershyness. She even put 3 butterflies on the labels for the mead she's making! :Flutter:

@AlisonRose: The "Love is in Bloom" song is what's stuck in my head. I wish there was more to it.

On the Medieval thing, that is one hiccup with it. The group I'm in isn't nearly as exacting as some out there but we have several vocal sourpusses that get down on inauthenticity.

I'm more about the general interest in the time and spending time with good people.

  8. About Myself: I'm a middle aged guy in Illinois. I do medieval reenactment and a few related things.

How I found Canterlot.com: A link from "My Little Pony Tales" which has apparently gone dormant.

How I became a fan of MLP:FiM: I watched it to see what the memes were about and got hooked. I got caught up about 1/2 through S-1 and have been impatient since.

My favourite main cast pony/s: Fluttershy,Twilight Sparkle
After filling out the form I'm not sure what to put down other than the fact that I'm a bit Pony obsessed lately. It's been a rough year for me and they have helped a lot. S-2 finale was AWESOME! Though I hate waiting!
