  1. So because a character looks really gay, acts really gay, and seems 100% gay, there's no way they could be gay? ... Sorry, I'm having a hard time making that work for me.
  2. That's true. I've done both systems online, and I have gotten both of them to work, but it was really hard. For the mathy one I had to set times when people would HAVE to be there, and if they weren't someone would have to RP for them. The other one was one of the best times I've ever had, but encounters took hours to complete. Of course, both can work if everyone's on at once and really active, but when does that happen? This is probably the biggest obstacle in the path of any forum RP, but especially a combat based one. Fortunetly, we don't need to have a combat system (though it would be really cool). Sigh. I'm thinking I may have to say "fight if you want, but it's not gonna be one of the main features." That would be a shame. Got any ideas how we might make this work?
  3. This is a RainbowDash shipping thread, not just a general shipping thread. Also, there's the cider episode. Why was Fluttershy so emarrassed that Rainbow Dash saw her in bed? She doesn't even wear any clothes normally! Answer: She likes rainbow and had a dirty thought. Flutterdash forever!
  4. Thanks for your input! I also want the RP to be a sort of group effort where everyone gets a say as to what happens, but just judging from past experiences there needs to be some element of control over the RP otherwise I'll come back after being gone for two days to find that all the ponies are now dogs. The reason I like having a lot of GMs is so that the RP can be very focused, so the RPers feel like they're actually in a story. Of course, there needs to be plenty of unfocused, random fun time as well, but having a plot and some people to make sure that the story works out hasn't failed me yet. As far as monster fighting goes, I have two approaches that we can take, each with it's own pitfalls. The first is the D20 type system. I've actually designed a pen and paper RPG that used a variation of the D20 system and played it with some friends, who liked it, so I have some experience in that area. I also know a few damage calculation formula type things that we could use. My one problem with that is that it seems a bit to artificial, and saying things like "you do twenty three damage" can sometimes become substitutes for descriptions of the action. If we were to use a mathmatical system like this one, it might be best just to have the GMs know how much damage attacks do and how much health monsters have, while the players just have a general idea of how powerful each attack is. That approach sometimes works for me when I DM, but it also puts a lot of work on the GMs shoulders. The other approach is a more zelda like approach, where each monster is a puzzle. Say you attack a dragon. The dragon has a magic sword in it's trove, which you can find by digging around in the gold. If you use the sword, you can beat the dragon. This encourages creativity, and also gives GMs a way to keep players alive even if they royally screw up, since there isn't actually any health. The GM can also reward players who come up with really creative ideas, such as luring the dragon into a tight tunnel so it gets stuck. The only problem here is that if the players can't find the clues to beat the monster, the fight can drag on and on. Still, I've run a very successful RP using this system, although it's a bit less refined than the mathy method.
  5. I actually don't use either of those to justify her being a lesbian. I have tomboy friends who are very straight, and I honestly didn't even think of rainbows until after I had formed my opinion of Dashie. As the picture says: I also draw on the episode about the cutie marks for justification for Flutterdash, since Rainbow was so eager to protect Fluttershy, who she barely knew. I know that's kinda grasping at straws, but this is shipping! What do you expect?
  6. True, Pinkie would make a great Deus Ex Machina if I need one... Although it I try something serious I'm gonna have to try to avoid using her.
  7. I try the 'this is me, accept it' approach, although I handle it the way Fluttershy would. By saying it so quietly no-one can hear me and just keep doing what I've been doing. If some jerk (not talking about my parents here, just to be clear) objects to they way I am and tries to force me to change, I'll also handle that the way fluttershy would and turn him into a pile of sobbing jelly. (of course, some situations make the Flutterrage approach a bad idea, and in those situations I just keep my head down and mumble inaudibly.)
  8. My friends suggested that I watch it, and I thought that it was a cool nerdy community I could become a part of. However, after I watched it, I fell in love with so many parts of the show. The characters are just amazing. Even characters who normally don't have any lines have their own personalities, their own loves, their own dreams. Every pony who appears in the show has a name I can learn. It's also better written that most shows on TV these days. I could go on (and on, and on, and on...) but let me just say that I just love each and every peice of the show.
  9. Ahem. LAUREN FAUST NEVER SAID RAINBOW DASH WASN'T GAY! Sorry, just needed to get that out of my system. What she said was that is was wrong to assume that RD was gay just because she was a tomboy with a lot of rainbows. In fact, she specifically AVOIDS saying that RD is straight, which I see as proof that she's lesbian. Also, from personal experience (I have quite a few lesbian friends) I have to say that RD is gay (and not just because of rainbows or 'cause she's a tomboy). I also think Flutterdash is so unbelievably cute that it must be true. Also, Fluttershy is #2 on my 'most likely to be lesbian' list (Pinkie comes last. Nothing against her, but once again, personal (or at least 2nd hand) experiance makes me think she's straight). However, I also ship Rainbow with the wonderbolts, Vinyl (I see them as having dated in their teenage years and broken up), and thats it.
  10. My folks thought that 'watching my little pony' was code for rule 34. That led to one very interesting converastion.
  11. I just kinda found the episode to be a bit uneven in almost every possible way. Firstly, RD is very vain, but not to the point of delibretly manufacturing 'disasters' in order to make herself look good. Also, the mane 6 are upset because she's letting her fame go to her head, but then they sabotage her fame in order to cut her down to size? That seems a bit OOC to me. Also, from a purely nit-picky perspective, Fluttershy couldn't fly herself out of a paper bag, let alone outfly Rainbow. The whole episode just seemed a little off to me. That said, I love Rainbow Dash and any episode that features her, and I wouldn't necessarily say that Mare Do Well was a bad episode. Just a bit... off
  12. Thanks! Normally I don't put page limits on myself, but this time I want to give myself a little bit of a challenge and try something I haven't done before. I'm hoping to be able to right a short story that's still good while being less that three pages. I'll be sure to try your suggestions, plus any others that people might have.
  13. So, I'm new here, but I'm an experienced RPer and I want to start an RP up here. My general Idea for the RP is as follows: You are a pony in the kinda-sorta newly founded kingdom of equestria. The time period is after the actual founding of Equestria as described in the show, and all the cities and stuff have been built, but the kindom is still pretty new (say, 80 years old?). Given that Equestria was far over 1000 years old at the start of the show, I think that counts as new. However, other than that I haven't really decided on anything yet. I'd like people who are interested in the RP (or who just wanna help out) to tell me what they think of the following ideas, and maybe even suggest some of their own: Have preincarnations of ponies from the show (with the exception of the doctor and derpy, who will have traveled back in time and be the same ponies) Have Celestia and Luna ruling (or maybe have their ascention to the throne be part of the plot) Include Discord (this one is basically gaurnteed, but I'm not sure how much to include him) Include interspecies rivalry (like in the episode) Make this more of an adventure RP, or a more social RP with an interesting setting (leaning towards adventure myself) Include a rival kingdom of ponies Include changelings (I'm thinking not, since that might get a bit confusing) Monster Fighting (It's fun, but is one of the few things that really requires a GM, so if I don't get any helpers I might have to scrap this idea.) Approving characters (once again, I'm probably gonna end up doing this one unless everyone begs me not to) Remember, if you have any ideas about how the RP should go, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post them. I might not take them, but the more ideas the better. Also, my schedual and access to a (working) computer is random and very unpredicatable. Therefore, I'm gonna need some helpers to assist me with this, since I might not really be able to get on regularly. Having some GMs to run the RP while I'm away would be AMAZING, so if you're interested, PLEASE post and say so. The responsibility of the GMs would include: Resolving disputes between players Running NPCs and monster fights (if I even chose to include monsters) Progressing the story (I'll try to handle this myself, but if anyone really good applies I might give them a sort of 'plot to-do list' and leave some of it up to them) Making sure the RP doesnt get really really off track Keeping the RP AT MOST PG-13 Keeping things moving Just generally making sure the RP works If enough people apply, the actual stuff that each GM HAS to do will actually be pretty small, meaning that if you have any experience GMing you should apply. The more helpers I have, the better this will go. However, too many chefs ruin the broth, so there will be some criteria that you MUST meet to apply to be a GM. They are: You must have GMed before OR have done at least three RPs. Please post a link to some RPing you have done so I can check it out. Have free time to dedicate to the RP (not much, but enough to keep it running). Be nice. Be able to name and describe three obscure (not Lyra, P0n-3, Derpy, etc...) background ponies. PLEASE apply to be a GM. I cannot tell you how much I would like to have help in case my computer dies a horrible death on me (which is very likely) and I'm forced to run this from my 3DS. Finally, if you are interested in the ideas I've put forward so far and think this would be a nice RP to play, please post saying so. I also would really love any suggestions for setting, plot, rules, or other stuff you might have.
  14. Thanks for the clarification. I used to take all that forgranted, but after that incident I now make it my policy to ask before I start on any RP site. I'm glad this site seems sane when it comes to stuff like that.
  15. Anyone reading the title of this post is probably scratching their heads wondering what I'm talking about, so to explain, let me begin with the story of how I got banned from the RP section of another forum. I'm a fairly experienced RPer, since I've been doing it since I was in kindergarten, and I'd decided to host an RP on a forum that I was active on, yet had never RPed on before. At the time, most of my online RPing experince had come from a single website where I was currently a GM for a few RPs. My RPs (I had been invited to GM 2 RPs and had started one myself) were fairly popular (one had over twenty people!) and I'd been complimented on my hands on GM style. I would respond to most action posts with an explanation of the outcome of the action the RPer took (for example, if someone fired a cannon, I'd say weather or not it missed, how much destruction it caused, stuff like that). People there liked the sense of realism my posts provided, and they also liked the difficulty when it came to fights, since no-one could simply say "I shoot the monster in the head with a magic gun I conjure out of nowhere. It dies.". So, with my background in RPs I thought that I was sure to make a good RP and have some fun. However, as soon as the RP on the other forum started, eveyone playing it started complaining about 'godmodding', a term I'd never heard before. It turns out that they WANTED to be able to dictate the results of their actions, even in what were supposed to be important plot points where a certaint outcome was necessary to the progression of the story. After a short while a mod actually banned me, saying that 'godmodding' was against the official rules. I went to an admin and pointed out that NOWHERE in the rules was 'godmodding' even mentioned, and I got unbanned very quickly. However, while 'godmodding' might not have been an official rule, it was certaintly an unofficial one, and no-one on that site wanted to RP with me after that. That's why I'm writing this post, since I REALLY don't want a repeat of that fiasco. As a GM of my own RP would I be allowed to basically be, oh, I don't know, the Master of the Game, or would I be constrained to simply being a RPer who has the ability to create NPCs. Also, if there are any unofficial rules / guidelines to which I should conform, it would also be nice to hear about those too. Thank you!
  16. I love writing, and I've wanted to write a MLP fanfic for a while now. The only problem that I'm having is that I want to take a break from the way I normally write and do something short for a change. However, there's one big problem with that ambition. Up 'til now, the shortest story that I've ever written has been twelve pages long, and that was a bit of an anomoly. Normally I can't write anything under twenty without feeling that it's hopelessly inadequite. I just feel that I'm unable to set the scene well enough in that little space. I also have a bit of a bad habit about writing NSFW stuff, even when I don't intend to make the story mature in the first place (and I REALLY don't want to do that to any of the ponies). I'd like it if someone here might give me some advice on writing a story that fits the following criteria: Under 3 pages (hopefully around 1000 words) Romantic, but in a tender, fluffy way Not hopelessly depressing Not evil (This is also a big problem. Often when I'm writing I'll get this crazy grin (yes, I really do), then something really bad/awkward will happen to the characters. My friends say that I'm scary when I'm like that.) If someone could just give me some advice on how to do that, I'd be really grateful.
  17. You're almost sure to run into some bronies no matter where you play. Once, when on a random valve server, I found myself playing with the mane six (six different people were each named after a different pony). The weird thing is that I asked them if they were together, and it turned out that they weren't. Also, anyone have any good sprays? This one is my favorite: but I'm also considering using a few others for classes besides scout.
  18. About Myself: I'm a major Brony and all around nerd. If you want to hear me rant about something, just ask. How I found Canterlot.com: PONY PICTURES! How I became a fan of MLP:FiM: After prom, a friend got me to watch MLP, which I watched for hours until I passed out. My favourite main cast pony/s: AppleJack,Fluttershy,Miss Rarity,Rainbow Dash,Twilight Sparkle,Pinkamina Diane Pie Greetings, my good bronies. During a twelve hour long session of looking up pony pictures I stumbled across this website, which quickly joined Equestria Daily on my favorites bar. Now that I've grabbed all the pony pics I wanted off the 'favorite pictures' thread, I've decided to join with you all in furthering the causes of friendship, love, and ponies. While I have selected all of the ponies as my favorite (no true brony could do anything else), I must admit that Rainbow Dash is more of my favorite than the others. All the other ponies are merely 5/6ths as awesome as she is! (Yay math jokes)! In addition to my love of ponies, I also am quite fond of the online game Team Fortress Two (same username there as here), and my favorite class is the same as Dashie's. Anyhoo, I hope to enjoy my time on this site (as I undoubtedly will, given the highly refined tastes of all you bronies), and I hope that you will enjoy my contirbutions as well.
