  1. Further Job Information For Lore Builders

    Job Description:

*This is NOT a job for those who wish to bring in their own headcanon or organization/group to the forums. Please be sure to read everything carefully to understand what this job entails*

Lore Builders are a group of skilled writers, artists, and designers tasked with bringing the RP Worlds of Canterlot to life. They work to enrich the RP by creating lush, detailed, creative, and inspiring environments for users to immerse themselves in. The Lore builders group is not a place to bring in headcanon or proposed lore- Lore builders with have specific tasks developing the environment I have planned for the RP. They will work at developing the current environment of the RP, exploring each landmark, town, ruin, and city to provide the details for a more immersive world, while expanding the geographical borders of Equestria. Lore building will inevitably involve developing the culture and shaping the lifestyles and habits of different nations, species, and history- select builders will be working with me personally. Tasks for the Lore Builder group will vary as projects need to be completed, and Lore Builders may be asked to help participate in events if needed.

    Job Tasks:

    · Lore Builders will be asked to write detailed yet concise immersive descriptions for each city, town, landmark¸ and point of interest in Equestria. Weather, climate, food stuffs, culture, produce/products, population and other such details need be worked into the descriptions of every location to help paint setting, mood, and overall environment.

    · Lore Builders will work as a team to develop constructs, maps, and rough sketches of what a city, town, landmark, or point of interest would look like from different views.

    · Lore Builders will work with Manestream personally on developing new RP settings or “Worlds” for users to take part in. It is exceptionally important to understand that you will be working within her vision. By being part of the team you will bring your own influence to projects, but Lore Builders will be working closely with Manestream’s vision to bring life to said projects.

    Job Requirements:

    · Applicants will need to be members of the roleplayers group, regular visitors, and easily contactable.

    · Be able to follow creative direction and work within other's ideas is a must.

    · Presenting/Producing results in a timely manner is a must.

    · You must be able to communicate constructive, creative advice, and to do so clearly with other team members.

    · You must be willing to recieve constructive, creative advice, and be flexible with your ideas.

And one of the following three:

    · Possess an excellent command of the written English Language with an emphasis on creative writing.

    · Possess an excellent ability to design maps, cities, towns, and landmarks in an interesting, engaging, and creative manner.

    · Possess a talent for drawing/illustrating different environments- from ruins, to towns, to castles, to landscapes.

    What to include when applying

Please follow all normal applying requirements with the addition of these:

    · Applicants are required to provide an example of their written, illustrated, or design work based on one of the following locations. The example work provided should show your ability to deepen a readers' understanding of the location, and further intrigue them to interact with the new possibilities. In other words: in what way can you bring to life one of the following locations that inspires a broader spectrum of RP possibilities?

    Location Prompts:

    Canterlot

    Appleloosa

    Unyasi

(click here for our current map)

    · When creating details in a world, you are simultaneously expanding and contracting that world; what you write becomes reality, and leaves less room for creativity. What we are looking for in Lore Builders are individuals talented at building details into a world that provoke more creativity than those invented details limit. In a role such as Lore Builder, you will be telling users what exists through description, image, and design. We would like you to address in your response how the details you are sharing expands the readers’ world instead of limits it. For a writer, this may be the distinction between what is left to careful, intent description, and what is not. For an illustrator, this may be the use of shadow or perspective to hide and intrigue, or the use of elements that encourage the viewer to want to explore what lies beyond the boundaries of the image. For a Designer, this may be capturing the essence of what makes each location unique in layout, populace, or culture- and what that location may have, and what it may need.

Submission work length should be no more than one written page, 12 point font for writers, for artists, 2-3 sketches of varying viewpoints/features, for designers 1-2 maps featuring geography or layout, accompanied by written details about features of the location.

  3. I actually have something in the works that is independent of FE (and possibly, existed before FoE), that I plan on releasing that will offer a similar style setting. I do not plan on creating a subsection for just FE, but i will keep in mind the growth of RP's and look at things as they become relevant. I would likely create a sub category that houses all types of apocolyptic future RP, rather than something like FE specifically, but even then, thats a small chance.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll keep the interest in mind as i develop the board

  4. All around you is a great ring of dirt. Dirt that thousands of hooves have packed down. Dry, pounded, solid, firm, unmoving- like the many competitors that have gathered on-top of it to contend with one another in sport. There is excitement in the air- some ponies wrestle, some ponies are warming up by stretching, others practice with one another- sparring or assisting in wild motions. Many ponies have gathered just to gawk in awe at the massive turn out- thousands of ponies share the vast ring- the chaotic athletic display is amazing. The noise- overwhelming. The anticipation in the air- thrilling.

Some tents sporadically line the ring, others have been pitched inside of it haphazardly. Each tent seems to offer something different- foods from different regions of Equestria; water or refreshing drinks of wide variety. Some tents seem set up to simply off shade from the hot sun. Looking around would reveal that it seems many ponies have come to make a few bits off of the crowd as well- snacks, treats, and souveniers and oddities fill the hooves and mouths of fillies and colts as they scurry about. A few more regal tents- vivid in color and almost gaudy in trappings, seem to have clustered together indicating some fancier residents of Canterlot have made their way here today as well. It seems like anypony could show up- to either participate or watch the events.

It is sure to prove an exciting day!

  7. Aw, I wish I had known about this sooner!

I'm prepared to drive all the way to, wait, Pittsburgh? As in, twenty-hours-away-from-me Pittsburgh?

    O.o

Perhaps next year :') pittsburgh is an awfully long ways away for me, but I would go for the chance to see Dio and Artax again :)

  8. I was up at 3am to get in a line, to get in a line, to get into another line, to get into line for a ticket; which would then allow me to get into line, to get into one last line to finally purchase the toy.

I did everything I could, but I could only get one in the end. :(

  9. Artax brings up one of the places I think you guys can best develop that I briefly touched on earlier; but I believe a part of it is becoming more experienced as you do it. Tightening up your show so there is very little downtime/transition time is something you are all going to want to strive for.

    Based on two facts/goals:

    1) People want as much information as they can get that is interesting. They like it straight to the point, then a bit of juicy detail.

    2) People want to spend the least amount of time gaining that information as possible. This leaves more time for more information, or daily activities.

The best news follows these two principles; pack in as much as you can in as little time as you can, and keep it interesting. In a news cast, there are likely several topics your interested in, and several you wont be as an average user. As the reporter, you want to make sure that you aren't losing your listeners partway through. Also, the shorter your show is, the more people will be able to fit it into their schedule. (There are a lot of clever ways to present information in edible chunks- break a one hour show into two 30 minute chunks, or even three 20 minute chunks. Each of those chunks should concentrate on communicating as much information as possible into the smallest amount of time possible.) Every good show has exclusives, discussion, commentary, and a little bit of bantering back and forth, but the key is that the show move very fluid, and on to the next topic before any listeners grow tired of the current subject and move on.

Not everything has to be over and done with quickly, but it should maintain some kind of balance. You can cover a featured topic in one 20 minute chunk, something like an interview, or information exclusively released to you guys to help draw attention to each podcast, while covering multiple other pieces of information in other segments. Essentially, you are still recording the same amount of time, but you are offering more information by being fluid and concise, and releasing them in smaller 'pieces', so they are more appetizing and available to a larger crowd of listeners. Breaking a show into two segments would do just that.

Part of tightening your show up is how you as a crew function together with your commentary- and while you are all discovering your voice, and the personality of the show, you might listen to a few other actual news shows (morning shows would be best) to see the dynamic between members of the cast. Often, its not what you say that defines your personal/character/or who you are on a talk show, but largely how you say it that sticks with the audience. Your tone of voice, the pace of your voice, all play into your personality as much as anything else. You might all decide to isolate a few unique characteristics about yourselves, and focus on drawing those out in the show as you learn how you work with one another- this will help give each of you an identity that is memorable, and will ultimately shape a large part of the character of your podcast. Not everything has to be impromptu either, and as your starting out, you will all probably have to plan a bit more about how you interact than later on, when you will all have a good feel for how your personalities blend together.

I'm sure you guys are already working on a lot of what i've mentioned, but i certainly think this is your greatest area of opportunity. Anyone can do a podcast- the challenge before you all is how you will make your podcast exceptional. I imagine you all want to have a show that is known for its quality- so what will you all have to do in order to take it to the next level, meet, and surpass your competition?

There is a lot of food for thought there! I'm excited to see you guys taking action and tackling it- it takes a lot of energy, planning, and heart to do something well. Keep in there, and look to continually improve- even the best of the best need to constantly improve to stay on top!

  10. And is that Tara Strong's signature in the corner? You luck pony... :P

I wish I had one...

It sure is! I even talked to her about the website- though I'm sure I came off as a total air-head xD.

I came down to San Diego for my cousins wedding- didn't even know about comic con- then a friend offered me a free stay, so I nabbed a day pass and made the most of it. I got a zecora too! It was the right day to go too- because Tara was there; and I got a book signed by Lauren Faust, though I didn't get to meet her.
