  1. Manestream originated as a suggestion for a business name by a friend. I ended up making a bovine persona out of her as the products I was selling were going to be for ungulates in general- and hey, cows are cute.

    Here she is:

I went through a few RL changes in profession, and a bit of a personal change as well. None of my previous usernames seemed to fit me anymore; perhaps, I'd grown up too much since my teaching years, and decided a new name was appropriate- so I kept Manestream.

I thought about making up some ridiculous story about a Tibetan monk, and my long hair, but I got too tired xD

  2. Yes, a male and a female, and no masks. Hah. Interesting how things go around. To think, I knew her and didn't even know it... but they didn't recognize me anyway. :P

I had a feeling something like this was going to happen! Hehe, its good to meet you again though! XD

  3. Hah! Funny how things work out. I didn't actually realize who I was talking to at my little table in the Artist's Alley on Sunday, and I've even done two images of Lampwick as it is. Well... I hope you trip home was good.

Its good to have you on board- and welcome :') The trip home was long- and laced with wishes to stay longer- but all good things have to end, so that they can come again ^_^ I"m glad to see that you got home safely as well! What booth were you running? And which two images have you done? i'm super curious now! :D

Edit: Oh- found the images- but i'm trying to remember what table you were at!

  4. Anthrocon is over- and I'm on my way back to Cali with Mir. Miss Artax and Bezel terribly- We all got along like pie and ice-cream- gloriously! And wish I could have seen more of Dio too- it was very nice of him to drive all the way up to see us; thank you Dio! It was a real pleasure :'3

Tugs at my heartstrings to be leaving- i teared up a bit as we left the hotel, haha- but thats how I know it was really good. Looking forward to next time. Cant think about anything else right now. :3

It would be great to meet more of all of you in the future!

We did pass out 200 business cards at the convention; i'm looking forward to welcoming all our new pony enthusiasts into our home!

  5. Canterlot is at Anthrocon this weekend!

Can you find our official mini business card? There are four to collect!

You might check the brony meetup on Saturday, at 10pm at the performance hall! Or maybe you'll spot some in the zoo!

Wearing MLP items might land you a chance encounter too, and talk and get to know other people wearing MLP gear, they might just be one of our card carriers! ;-)

    ~Tug-of-War~

The shouting, cheering, and laughing of a crowd of ponies catches your attention- there is a big splash and the crowd erupts in laughing and cheering again. As you approach you see that the throng of ponies are huddled around a pit filled with mud, a large thick rope spanning over the top of the pit from one side to the other. Emerging from the pit is a once light sky-blue pelted pegasus, who was now obscured mostly by a coat of muddy brown. She laughed with the others as she shook her coat and mane out before addressing the crowd. "And thats how its done! Just hang on for as long as you can before these three-" she gestured with a hoof across the pit at her three competitors "- pull you in! The pony who puts up the best struggle and lasts the longest wins! Who's next?!"

    Event Description:

Tug of War is an endurance contest against three other ponies! The goal is to pull your side of the rope against your competitors to prevent them from pulling you into the pit for as long as possible. Conveniently, the pit has been filled with mud so nopony will be injured when they are pulled in- the mud will be there to break your fall! So dig in those hooves, pull and tug and resist as long as you can before the three ponies on the other side eventually pull you in! Everypony eventually ends up in the mud, but how long can you resist before you take the final plunge? Endurance is important, but an Agile pony might also find be able to delay the inevitable with some quick thinking and clever hoof-work! Show us what you've got!

    Event Rules:

1 )There is no flying, no magic, and no use of outside equipment; everypony must compete using their natural ability to pull, tug, and stand their ground!

    2) Only one post (round) per competitor (OC)!

    3) You may participate in this event with more than one OC. However, only one post will be considered for judging, please indicate which OC/post you want to be judged in the competition at the top right of your post by adding the following: *This post submitted for judging*

    4) This event is running for three days- one week! Don't miss your opportunity to give it your all!

    5) All global forum rules apply- keep it clean and safe for all ages!

    6) You are welcome to RP the 3 NPC's you are tug-of warring against; the judge will not be RPing these NPC's! Your reply should focus on your struggle against the inevitable, muddy end that your pony will meet, but feel free to spice it up by including the NPC's in your post!

    Event Judging:

This event will be judged by three simple criteria: Completion, Creativity, and Quality. There is no actual timing factored into the judging, the winner will be decided solely based on the overall quality of their RP based on the above criteria and following guidelines. The listed criteria will be used by the judge to determine the winner, no scores will be given or made public, and the winner will be announced upon the completion of the event! There will be a first, second, and third place. Specific information on each criteria follows:

    1) Completion will be based on appropriate post length (not to short or inappropriately long), and responds to all event criteria. Completion checks to see that the competitor has met all of the requirements of the event.

    2) Creativity encompasses every writer's unique approach to solving the event, how entertaining, and how original the post is. Is there character development in struggle, however small? Do we learn something about the character through their actions, thoughts, and attitude? Is it humorous, or does it make us sympathize with the character? Is it enjoyable and well thought out?

    3) Quality focuses on the physical quality of the post- are there spelling errors, or grammatical errors that throw a wrench in the reading process? Does the post flow well when read? Does the post look good, or is it riddled with colors that don't match and pictures that don't fit in? This criteria focuses on basic readability and penmanship.

    Getting Started:

All you need to do to get started is to respond to this thread with your post of your OC accepting the sky-blue pegasi's question of who wants to go next! Good luck everypony, show us what you've got!

  7. What if we made a "Looking for RP" form? It would streamline the whole process. It doesn't have to be very long, something like this:

    Character Name(s):

Roleplay Type: (WoE, Crossovers, Free for All, Private, etc.)

    Application link(s) (if applicable):

What you want to RP: (Example: Looking for a gryphon or a pegasus to go on an adventure with my unicorn! Looking for smart ponies to start a library!)

This is primarily what the OOC forums are for; but perhaps a name change would be appropriate in the future. Its something I'll consider

    ~The Iron Pony Obstacle Course~

A tan earth pony stands beside a starting line; a long, winding course full barrels, spotted with mud, and other obstacles stretches on behind her. Ponies have gathered along the sidelines of the course, watching contestants tackle the course one at a time. There is much ruckus as one of the participants falls into a pool of mud, ponies cheering or shouting encouragement- the whole scene is energetic, and alive with the spirit of competition! The tan pony earth pony spots you and calls out to you, her brown mane whipping in a slight breeze. Her enthusiasm strikes you as she calls out- "Welcome to the Iron Pony Obstacle Course! Do you have strength? Agility? Finesse! Speed?! Do you have what it takes to be number one?! Step on up and show us what you've got!'

    Event Description:

Everypony can test their mettle on the obstacle course! The object is to get over, under, and across as quickly as possible to reach the finish line. The obstacle course is made up of four obstacles. The first obstacle is a long, shoulder deep pit of mud the width of the track; so cross it your going to have to get a little dirty! Sturdy, strong ponies will do well on this leg of the race! The second obstacle is a wall of barrels - stacked six high at its peak, there are too many to jump over from ground level! Each pony must be careful to scale the barrles that arent stacked as high until they can reach the top, and jump over. Be careful not to slip, some of those barrels can be wobbly! Ponies with agility will do well here! The third obstacle is a long straight stretch of the course where ponies must sprint to cross it as quickly as possible to reach the next challenge; ponies with great speed will excel through this challenge! Finally, the last challenge and fourth obstacle is a row of three thick wooden poles sticking up out of the ground. Each pony must retrieve three fresh apple pies at a nearby table, and are required to balance all three pies on their back while they weave between the wooden poles to the finish line. Move quickly, but not too quickly! For each pie that falls, there is a time penalty, so dont let those pies fall! Ponies with the utmost elegance and balance will shine brightly in this leg of the race!

    Event Rules:

1 )There is no flying, no magic, and no use of outside equipment; everypony must compete using their natural ability to overcome the obstacle course!

    2) Only one post (run) per competitor (OC)!

  10. :3 Thank you for looking over it. I know you are very busy. I am glad you like the idea for the myth parts. I know that there aren't vampires, but that was the first thing that came to mind to explain. I can't wait to get started. I already have one person who wanted to RP with me and I am looking forward to it. *hugs* thanks again!

    Your very welcome! :3

  11. Thank you so much for looking over my app. I made the changes with the great war stuff, I thought it was fully removed. I added a few more small things and I figured since we had other historians maybe I could be a historian of mysteries and legends. Not saying there are but like vampires, history on timerwolves, things like that. Again thank you!

Absolutely my pleasure :} A historian of mysteries and legends would be quite welcome, I'm certain there is a lot of history Equestria has yet to uncover! We're cautious of what types of creatures/mythologies we allow in officially, but a well told legend is something that is always part myth and part truth, it would be interesting to see how those are intepreted by a historian. <3 I made a small edit on your occupation line to read "a" instead of "the", so that its clear your not the only historian xD And it looks good, thanks for being patient with us, we've had a lot of apps lately xD

  12. Back when the forum was brand spankin' new, i think my first post was my AJ application, and my second one was my introduction. Wow things have changed xD I definetly think for the better though; i was shocked when they approved me for AJ, I was like "You dont even know me yet, lol"

  13. Unfortunately the idea of a crime lord doesn't blend with the concept of the Mane RP- Its just in concept incorporates too many elements of unhappiness, lawbreaking, and implied subjugation of either the criminals, or other groups- meaning its great for a drama! but not for the Mane RP.

Its for ideas like this that we have crossovers- you are more than welcome to utilize the crossovers to create the setting you want to RP in, and with the characters you want to. Crossovers isnt just about ponies meeting outside elements from their world; its also the place for more intense visions of equestria- ones with crime, varying social statuses, poverty, crime, and well, even life/death.

For crossovers- certainly. For Mane RP; not workable i'm afraid.

  14. Your welcome to RP your character as you wish in the FFA and crossover sections, but I am going to ask you to leave out labels that identify your OC as belonging to a particular group (so that there is no risk of misrepresenting them.) In Crossovers and FFA, your pony can hear voices, etc, just be cautious of what your actions may send a message about.

If you desire to RP in the Mane RP with this character, then your correct, and fundamentally your character needs to change. I understand staying true to your vision, but the character is too out of alignment in design for it to fit into what the Mane RP is looking for. This makes it a perfect candidate for Crossovers, and FFA, or private RP's. And as always, your welcome to create another OC that does fit within the scope of the Mane RP so that you can participate there. We certainly dont enjoy having to turn creative characters from the Mane RP, but its necessary in order to maintain and preserve the type of RP the Mane RP represents.

I certainly encourage your creativity in the less restricted RP forums- this is exactly what they are for- OC's that branch out and carve a niche of their own.

  15. The reason we are asking people not to use illnesses for their OC's primarily hinges on representation of that group as a whole. Even if you are of that group- through your actions with an OC you will be portraying behavioral choices that may or may not be related, and there is no way for outside individuals to know that. Also, your actions as an individual should not speak for others in a group, but by adding the label of belonging to that group, you invite others to interpret your RP'ed behavior, and thusly, actions and stereotypes as fitting, or belonging to that group.

I strongly feel this decision to omit handicaps and/or conditions more respectful of the individuals who live with them, than less. I understand that you identify with this group, and I apologize if my decision seems harsh or incorrect, but I do it to protect many groups by preventing the wrongful development of stereotypes through our RP. After all, we have a very young and impressionable crowd participating in our board.

I genuinely apologize for any disappointment this might bring, but would appreciate your understanding in this decision.

If there is a personality trait you are having trouble expressing in this OC without using labels, I would be glad to try to offer some helpful solutions.

  16. Added a small edit- I havnt been able to talk to my RP experts about this, but I havnt come to a final decision on how to incorporate changelings/the queen, and a few other things.

However, this decision will NOT BE A QUICK ONE, so everypony will have to be patient to see what happens in the future, and if we can allow them or not.

  17. And our event has come to an end!

After calculating together all the results of participation in the WWU 2012 effort, I have concluded that winter is officially:

112% wrapped up! ON TIME! :-o

Ponyville with your help has been able to wrap up winter on-time, thank you so much! Your hard work will certainly gain you recognition amongst other ponies- be sure to keep your eyes peeled! Hoof-pumps and hi-hooves all around for those of you who participated in the event, thank you for making it so enjoyable! :)

  18. This is it ponies! The hooooome stretch! We're getting very close- with the help of teams working together- we are at 87% complete! we've almost done it, but Ponyville still needs you! Let me see what you've got! <3

The event will last through this weekend, i'm going to be closing up the threads on Monday the 23rd! If you want to have a helping hoof in wrapping up winter in Ponyville- nows the time to get involved before its too late!

  19. Lampwick was caught a bit by surprise as the beet in front of her split into two- words flowing from the white Mare's mouth, picking up in speed and intensity as her idea unfolded onto the table in front of her. Lampwick heard the words, but she was more interested in the growing passion in which they were spoken- Lampwick knew that feeling; kinda like when needing to just...go, one hoof found its way in front of another, until pretty soon she was miles away. She figured that must be what this idea was like- once the mare had pushed it forward a little, it was picking up speed.

"Sure." Was all she said at first. She looked at Ginger Mint's reddened hoof, then to all the tables around her, and then back to Ginger Mint again; letting a soft smile break over her. "I honestly dont know much about ponyville animals- but in my travels salads are always quite popular with herbivores; I bet they might appreciate it." Lampwick turned and nodded to Greenshot with a big smile, asking him to unload the cart- and discovered Shanna hovering nearby as well. "Yes, actually lets go ahead and unload the veggies and Gingermint can show us what to do-" Lampwick turned back and tipped her head inquiringly at the mare "If, thats alright with you? As you three finish baskets- I'll load them up onto the cart again and take them off to be delivered! Oh- and I'm Lampwick, but my friends call me-" For an awkward moment Lampwick's mouth hung open as she realized she hadn't any real 'friends' since her days at school. She'd met a lot of interesting ponies over the years- friends for sure- but she hadnt thought about her school friends from fillyhood in what seemed like... before Celestia first raised the sun! She couldn't even remember! "Ah..er, well. Ponies usually call me Flicker."

She looked around at the other tables to hide the moment of embarassment. Nearly all had been stocked in the time it had taken for the four of them to have their discussion- she thought that other tables might be listening in, and she heard a few approving murmers from some nearby ponies who thought salads sounded awfully delicious. Lampwicks' stomach rolled with a small complaint. She'd forgotten to eat today- when this was all over, she thought she might have a salad too...
