  1. Thanks for the replies. At least I now have some ideas for prepared food. I hope to see more ideas on what they would eat as prepared food.

For example, in another RP elsewhere on the net, I have a pair of superhero friends, a young buck deer and a goat buck, an when they get together, they snack on Malted Cud Balls (their version of Milk Duds).

Lets see, instead of faux-cud products, maybe hay twisted into a "rope" bar and rolled in honey and nuts?

Hmmm for main sandwich fare, going by the posts above, maybe Garden Salad Sandwich, or Filly Cheese melt vege-sandwich, or chilli cheese soydogs...

  2. The stetson wearing donkey, Thorn trotted out onto the cafe' deck in his capacity as waiter should the approaching plutocrat pony go there first.

Meanwhile, Madam Bistro waited inside by the open doorway as several of the train engineers went in for their caffene fix.

She smiled pleasently to the approaching ponies 'Well Good Morning! Welcome to my humble establishment. Feel free to dine inside, or enjoy this beautiful morning on my cafe' deck."

Bistro smiled and nodded to the Sherrif. "Good morning Sherrif, Miss LaMare. Would you both like your usual?"

Madam Bistro swished her tail energetically, the smile and pleasent demeanor toward a customer honed to a fine art from her youth in Manehattan...

  3. Since my Madam Bistro runs a place that serves food as well as pastries and anything coffee related, I was considering what would be good and pony-friendly to put on the menu besides pastries and oatmeal.

I've heard sunflower smoothies, and daisy and buttercup sandwiches on the show.

Hmm I can see grilled veggies and veggie shish-ka-bobs, anypony else have ideas?

  4. Meanwhile, In Madam Bistro's, It was a pleasent enough day that the outside cafe' deck was in use. A russet donkey was rushing about getting ready for the rush of customers that usually accompanies a train, when he stopped and stared for a moment at something that caught his eye across the street. After a moment, he went back inside and whispered to the mocha mare herself.

Bistro smoothed her apron and spared a glance outside. "A Rockefilly here in person? My my, this could be interesting... I wonder if he's been to any of my other locations?"

She rubbed a cloth on an empty table to make it spotless, thinking * Looks like my instincts on this town's prospects are right. His must be buzzing too... Interesting! There's possibilities in that also... *

  5. (yay! thanks for letting me drop in after your post. :) )

Mid-morning in Ponyville showed an unusual sight; a pair of pegasi actually walking a cart through town, the young stallion walking behind the cart holding up one end of an object covered in a tarp.

Polite inquiries at some of the shop stalls led them to the new repair shop. Parking the cart outside, they entered the shop.

The bay mare looked up at the door frame when the walked in. "4 bells? How unusual."

Her twin brother, Hoss peered around the shop "He probably needs the extras to hear over the customers, Shanna."

She ulped when she saw how many ponies were ahead of them, even a zebra. "Oh my! He must really be good to get customers from the Grasslands. Will he have time for us, Hoss?"

Hoss tapped a hoof "I hope so. Oh wait a minute, wasnt there a fuss over some zebra named Zecora last time we were in Ponyville? That must be her."

Shanna plopped her rump down out of the way "Well, either way, nothing to do but wait our turn..."

    Hoss and Shanna Skybright

  6. (oops, sorry, the last post got by me for several days... )

Hoss unhitched himself from the cart and moved to the other side as the pony mentioned the danger, staying there until the danger was past. "Uh-oh! I would do as he says..."

When it was finally safe he came back around to the front of the cart.

He listened as the earth pony explained about his works, then finally gave hs name.

"Pleased to meet you firecracker, I certainly understand about the displays. This is a very nice place to experiment with new blends, one I would have chosen to practice with thunderclouds for the same reasons when I was learning Weather Patrol duties.. I'm afraid they are trickier to master than fireworks. Even the smallest boomer can be as unpredictable as that dud unless I keep a tight rein on it."

Hoss looked at the remaining rockets curiously and smiled "We dont often get to see good fireworks in Cloudsdale, the dampness of our clouds causes problems with the powders I would imagine, not to mention static electricity in the clouds..."

  7. Name: Thorn

    Sex: Male

    Age: older colt

    Species: Donkey

    Pelt Color: Russet

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Black mane and tailtuft, tan eyepatches and belly

    Eye Color: green

    Cutie Mark: none

    Physique: compact, muscular

    Origin: Appleoosa

    Roleplay Type: Mane MLP

Occupation: Bellhop, cook, purveyer of caffinated goods, jack-of-all-trades

Motivation: To work hard and succeed in a business world of ponies and run his own "Madam Bistro's" location.

Likes: Jobs well done, perfection, happy customers and guests, good food and cappuchino.

Dislikes: slackers, dirty rooms and kitchens, snobs, particularly those who look down on donkeys for being donkeys.

Character Summary: Born to a family of donkeys that work in the kitchens of Canterlot, Burr and Rose. Thorn takes great pride in doing the best job he can. While his parents wanted him to work there too, he felt it was not for him.

Thorn's parents came to an agreement with him and let Thorn go forth to find his place in the world, and more fulfilling employment. He was provided with full letters of recommendation. He stopped in Manehattan but found the work there a depressing repeat of Canterlot, even oddly making him homesick.

It was on the train to Fillydelphia that he ran into Madam Bistro, returning from a trip to personally sample the shipment of supplies before purchase. He sampled her cappuchino and was instantly hooked.

When she saw the letters of reccomendation, she hired him on the spot for work at the location prior to Appleoosa. She is quite happy with the way he treats every customer with unflappable calm, and he is quite happy to deal with the so-called "commoners" who often act better than the nobles.

Now almost two years after he left Canterlot, he was asked to come to Appleoosa as her right hoof to get the new place up and running, and run the place in her absence every few weeks.

Clothing: For daytime Appleoosa, he wears a cream colored stetson, with his long ears threaded comically through the earholes, and a bolo tie.

In the evening, he wears a cream colored derby, starched collar with a black bowtie and a bartender's vest in cream with mocha trim.

  8. A couple of the server ponies looked at each other in shock that Granny smith would order as much as one of the train engineers but rushed off to gather the food.

Madam Bistro nudged the register book up to the shakey hooves "We will see that you are well fed here, Granny Smith. I will personally fry the apple fritters for you, and we get our apple Juice from Braeburn's homestead. I'm so glad you want to try my cooking. Oh, yes, could you sign here please?"

Meanwhile, the donkey managed to keep from roling his eyes at the treatment by Hoity-Toity, making Bistro sigh in relief. She hoped she could keep both of theese VIPs happy even if they were like oil and water together.

She was also curious to hear more about an Apple family relative in a Fasion show...

  9. Madam Bistro trotted up to the window and shaded her amber eyes with a mocha colored hoof "Oh dear, that would be the Sherrif. He must have deputzed two of my guests for an emergency. That is a cart some of them brought from Cloudsdale on some business of Canterlot. The comet tonight, I believe."

She turned to Granny Smith "I am afraid I dont sell tickets for rides, but they are guests here. I am sure they would be happy to give you a ride. They are bay colored pegasi twins, very hard to miss with black stripes in their wings, and the mare is currently upstairs. I'm sure she will be down soon."

She trotted back to the registrar desk "Now, whenever you are ready, Um, Granny Smith is it? And feel free to let me know what you would like for lunch."

Bistro looked at the help, wiggled an ear and tapped her hoof twice. Nodding, the donkey bowed to Hoity-Toity "Madam will have a cozy Master suite for you momentarily. Do you wish luncheon right away?"

Meanwhile, upstairs in Room 5, Shanna looked out the window sleepily as the yellow cart rocketed past with a screaming sherrif "Oh dear Luna! What are you up to now, Hoss..."

Shaking her head, she clopped back to her bed for a few more minutes rest.

  10. The bay colored pegasus clopped his hooves together in applause, and smiled at the white pony "Not at all, I dont think. I saw the commotion while checking out the mesa for tonight's comet watch. No one in town saw it when I reported it and I volenteered to come out and see if anypony needed help."

He nodded to the other ponies "Miss LaMare wanted a little excitement and brought the sherrif along for the ride in case it was bandits or somesuch."

He looked the campsite over "Do you do displays? That last one was awesome!"

If Firecracker looks at the side of the yellow cart, the words "Royal Canterlot Observatory, Cloudsdale branch" will be visible.

  11. Hoss beat his wings leisurely, occasionally looking back to his passenger in the back of his bright yellow cart, the Sherrif of Appleoosa. "How are you doing?"

Then he looked at the famous author at his side, on the other side of the cart's limber, Louise LaMare, knowing his father would be thrilled to hear of this adventure.

Looking forward and keeping to a low altitude, he saw a bright flash ahead at a higher altitude. He finally saw a pony with a cart below the bang and did a slow circle then came in for a landing nearby. He waved and shouted out at the strange pony with the firecracker cutie mark. "Hello there! Awesome fireworks. I wish we had these in Cloudsdale! How are ya doing?"

  12. Hoss smiled as the sherrif settled in and nodded to Louise.

"You're welcome, now lets get going. Hyah!"

Grinning in high spirits, the pegasus gave a quick trot and lifted off, then wheeled about in a slow circle to give the Sherrif a chance to get comfy.

"Lets keep it under a hundred feet so the Sherrif will feel better..." and aimed for the direction he saw the flash.

    (Hoss exiting for the moment...)

    -------------

Meanwhile, Madam Bistro cheerfully brought out the registry book.

"Certainly, Ma'am. I still have several rooms ready to go at this time. Two are upstairs on the second floor, and I also have a room here on the first floor if that would be preferable."

Bistro also took a moment to pull out a menu "As for food, at this time of day, we have soups, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, and everything coffee. We also have a decent selection of pies and pastries."

She smiles sheepishly "I've been reluctant to do apple based pastries untill I can find a local willing to do the job since everyone compares my attempts to that of the Apple family. I'm willing to try again if you wish it."

She kept looking from the Apple Family Matriarch to her kin for cues on how well they were taking her treatment of the most loved pony in town, and back to see how the personage in question was taking it.

Her tension increased tenfold when she saw another traveller come in behind the croud. She nearly fainted when she recognized Hoity Toity, thinking * OH DEAR CELESTIA!! TWO ponies I cannot leave hanging AT THE SAME TIME!! *

She frantically motioned to Thorn to help the VIP.

The donkey trotted over and bowed to the fasionista, offering his sincere apologies and Latte on the house. "Madam will be with you momentarily, sir. Yon Matriarch is most important to the entire town. Our apologies for any inconveninece sir."

This was the make-or-break moment for this new location and she knew it, only keeping her tail from trembling by sheer force of will.

  13. Hoss nickered and waved a wingtip "If it's no trouble Sherrif. I would welcome the company."

He earperked as the expedition suddenly got bigger when Louise asked to come along. He nodded sagely at the Sherrif, then spoke to Louise "Oh yes, please. You seem to be handling the heat better than my sister, at least."

He chuckled at the writer's enthusiasm "Well yes, that cart would be perfect. That would be the one me and my sis pulled up here. It's already enchanted for pegasus flight. Let me just move the cloud from it over to Shanna's room..."

Quickly, Hoss moved the small cloud from being parked on the cart, right on up over Room 5 of the B&B to keep it cool with it's shade, then came back down. He hitched himself right up to the bright yellow cart on one side of the limbers and waited for Louise. "If it makes you feel safer, Sherrif, we have straps and belts back there for cargo and occasional passengers. The lead Astronomer in Canterlot, Stargazer, is quite nervous about flying since he's a unicorn so he does not entirely trust the seat-keeping enchantment. Let me know when you are ready."

    ------------

Meanwhile, inside the B&B, Madam Bistro had been relieved earlier when things started to slow down from lunch rush. She was amazed to have gotten the third pegasus that day asking for a room. Maybe that silly weather pony she had heard of but not seen yet was about to have competition...

Then the train whistle and bell let her know she was about to get REALLY busy. The crews were now clear to leave the train for a break! "THORN! Get the bread from the warming oven! Rustle up the Sandwich fixings! I'm on coffee and donuts! We're about to get Train Crew!"

She trotted around getting enough cups and donut samplers ready while the donkey rushed around getting the sandwich line ready for orders.

She was stunned when nearly the entire town showed up at her door, escorting in an aged mare, lime green and silver hair done up in a bun, her tail too. Wasnt there such a mare that all her customers talk about as their family Matriarch?

Bistro quickly fluffed her mane and made sure her mane comb was in place, then smoothed her apron and trotted up to the ancient mare. "Good afternoon, Ma'am. Welcome to Madam Bistro's Bed and Breakfast, I am at your service!"

  14. Hoss shook his mane, making the blue metal ring holding his ponytail jingle.

"Not that I can think of, off-hoof, Sherrif. I think I saw the general store in passing if we need anything not already in the cart."

He tapped a hoof in thought "Oh yeah, that strange flash I saw out in the desert. Would you like for me to take a few minutes to check that out? It was that way..." He points out into the desert.

(Hoss should be back in several posts, whether anything happens in the "UFOs in the Desert" thread or not. Hopefully Madam Bistro will be cleared by tonight)

  15. (ooc): We can wait until Madam Bistro is OFFICIALLY in play before we continue with Granny Smith

"Tour of the town? You betcha! Foller me!" the sheriff said as he led Louise and Hoss down the street. "Usually, Braeburn's the one who serves as Appleloosa's unofficial tour guide, but since he ain't here right how, it'll have to be me."

"I'm sure you can handle it, Sheriff," Louise said with a smile.

"Alrighty then. Over here's the Post Office. Mail comes here either by train or by Pegasus delivery. Usually the mail gits here on time, but not when they put that blonde crosseyed Pegasus on our route. Had to send out a rescue posse out to the desert many a time to retrieve her when she'd fly off course.

"I think I've heard of her, Sheriff," Louise giggled.

"And over here's our famous watering hole, the Salt Block! Over yonder's my office, and lookie over thar! We have horse drawin' carriages, and horses drawin' horse drawin' carriages too! We also have Wild West dances and mild west dances, but it's too durn hot out today to have them. Our famous apple orchard is just over that rise, if'n y'all wanna see it."

Hoss nickered appreciativley at the tour. "I dont mind, I hear Braeburn's pretty gung-ho at his tours."

As the Post office was pointed out, he nodded "I am not surprised. I heard she went North at the last Ponyville Winter Wrap-up to round up the birds that went South. At least she never actually loses a delivery."

Hoss spread his wings for some shade as the art jam was pointed out and chuckled at the puns. He nodded eagerly at the next suggestion "Oh yeah, seeing the orchard sounds great. Lets go." :D

  16. "And I'm Louise LaMare, newest resident of Appleloosa!" the brown Pegasus mare said as she offered her hoof to shake. "Are you and the Sheriff planning on going to the Mesa? I'd love to tag along, if that's alright. Or if you're wanting to tour the town first with the Sheriff, I'd like to come too! After all, since I'm moving here to stay, I need to know where all the facilities are."

Hoss smiled as he shook hooves with her "Pleased to meet you, Miss LaMare. We wont mind the company when we go to the mesa. Oh! The Author? My father reads your books! He will be thrilled to hear I met you."

"It's all up to you, buckaroo! Where did ya want to start first?"

Hoss smiles "We still have some hours yet before nightfall. I think a tour would be perfect."

He scans the sky to the NorthEast "There, about 4 hoof-marks or so above that ridge. You can see it a little if you are looking for it, that fuzzy white puff. That's why I and Shanna are here. It will look far more impressive at night, up on the Mesa."

As the Sheriff spoke, Louise glanced over at him. Rugged, tall and sturdy. This was the kind of stallion she's always dreamed of! A real Western lawpony! She knew Silverstar liked her, and now, she was starting to have similiar feelings for him.

Hoss noted the glance the author gave the sherrif and smiled inwardly *I wonder if she's going to write a cowpony romance now..* he thought.

  17. (finally finished the app for Bistro and added pics, heres hoping she's approved soon, so Granny can get a proper greeting)

Hoss trotted up toward the Sherrif, then stopped in surprise at the crowd. "Granny smith"? Ohh I think I remember, she's real well known in Ponyville... Wow! She made it all the way out here?"

He moved closer to the Sherrif "Hello there, whats up?"

Finally noticing the mare with the Sherrif, he dips his head politely since he didn't have a hat. "Good day, I am Star Skybright, or "Hoss"."

He looked back to the Sherrif "I thought I saw something out in the desert several miles from here, like fireworks. I can take a quick look if you like. I was also wanting to poke around town for a bit before I get a little sleep for tonight's comet watch. Anyplace in particular I should see?"

  18. Hoss trotted into the street, looking around. Most of the town ponies seemed to be inside out of the heat. "I'm probably better off looking for the Sherrif for a quick rundown on what's where before I get a quick nap in."

He "Ah-ha!"ed and spotted him in front of Madam Bistro's, and started on over.

    * It would be nice to meet some of the other townsponies though. Maybe more will be out tomorrow before it gets hot... * he thought.

  19. Meanwhile, Hoss winged his way out to the mesa, giving it a good look. There was even a nice sturdy trail to pull the cart to the top with several ponies walking alongside if the sherrif did not want to ride in the cart for flying to the top. Some earth ponies were funny that way aout air travel.

Satisfied, the pegasus did a wing-over and headed back to appleoosa. As he was landing outside of town, he saw a flash in the desert, like fireworks.

    * I'll report it to the sherrif whenI see him. If nothing else I may check out later. * he thought.

  20. Name: Madam Bistro

    Sex: female

    Age: Mare

    Species: Earth Pony

Pelt Color: A nice glossy mocha brown

Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Creamy white mane and tail with caramel color streaks, and a matching appaloosa blanket across her hindquarters.

    Eye Color: Amber

Cutie Mark: steaming cup of cappuchino

Physique: Average mare physique, keeps fit by being a hard worker.

    Origin: Appleoosa

    Roleplay Type: mane

Occupation: Barista Owner/proprieter of several Bed and Breakfast inns and cafes' along the rail line, currently running the newest one in Appleoosa.

Motivation: To bring the glory of coffee in more palatable forms to everyone in Equestria, and to convert the neigh-sayers who dont like the stuff because of sub-standard ways of preparing it. If someone doesnt like it, she will tinker with it until she finds a mix they like.

Likes: converting a non-coffee drinker to her brews, making new friends, travel to personally sample new ingredients or visit her other locations.

Dislikes: Rude customers, boring travel lay-overs, Decaffinated ANYTHING! She will make it and give her best game face, but consideres it barbaric.

Character Summary: Born to proud cafe' owners in Manehatan, Java Joe and Chocolate Eclare.

Bistro helped out in the cafe from early on, learning the ins and outs of the cappuchino machines, coffee makers, grinders, and bakery duties.

She acheved her cutie mark one busy day when her parents were occupied with a crowd of customers. She suddenly had to handle a customer who hated coffee and was upset the cafe had just run out of hot chocolate.

Amazed at somene who hated coffee, she promised the huge blue and white stallion that he would love her coffee, and that he had never had it made right when he had his first cup ever, otherwise he would have tried her parent's coffee which was just ever so much better.

Bistro worked quickly, making as big a show of it as she could as she foamed up the brew. She added whipped cream and swirls of caramel, topping it with chopped hazel nuts.

Still wary despite the show, the stallon sipped at the cup. His face suddenly lit up with joy. He quickly finished it and ordered another, making her bounce happily that he loved it. Her mother suddenly pointed out her new cutie mark, and she knew her talents truly lay in the business.

The stallion turned out to be the owner of a construction company and from then on he became a regular customer -and so did many of his workers.

The family fortunes increased to the point she got a good business education and struck out to tap a new customer base; railroad workers and travellers. She combined a cafe' with the new concept of bed and breakfast inns and set one up near the first major rail station in Equestria, primarily serving train crews and their passengers.

It was at this time she dressed up up her name with "Madam" to sound more exotic and mysterious.

After several years, she had traned up a good staff and turned management over to her brother, Maxwell and started a new B&B at the next station down the line, intending on a chain of such businsses, spreading the gospel of tasty caffinated goodness far and wide.

She now has 2 B&Bs firmly established, and a cafe' only at the last location due to intense competition with the other inns and saloons there.

Madam Bistro has just started her 3rd B&B in Appleoosa near the train station in the months since the buffalo stampede, but is considering making this her permanent home as she has a good feeling about the place's possibilities.

It remains to be seen if the outdoor cafe' portion will remain as she had not anticipated the frequent heat waves and it does not seem to really fit the Western town somehow. She may have it converted into an enclosed addition to her cafe'/lobby or have it covered over in canvas like a conestoga wagon depending on local reaction.

Madam Bistro may sometimes be seen traveling to other places in Equestria, either in checking up on her other locations or negotioating business deals for her supplies.

Extra Clothing: During business Hours in the day, she will wear an apron with 2 pockets, a decorative comb in her mane or two hair sticks topped with glass cherries or vanilla flowers, a tail bow, and a caramel and white garter on a hindleg.

During business hours in the evening, she will wear a flashy dress. In Appleoosa, this will be a burgundy or red version of the saloon girl dress worn by Pinkie Pie with the two hair sticks instead of a feather.

  21. (YAY! Shanna's now approved!)

Shanna looked more at ease now that she had eaten and cooled off, now standing and facing the Sherrif. "Thank you Sherrif, for all your help. We shall see you later."

Hoss smiled and waved a hoof as the earth pony departed. "All right Shan, head on up while I get the telescope inside."S

he nodded and headed on up with the room key.

Several minutes later, Hoss arrived in the room with the telescope in it's bright yellow painted oaken case, assisted by a donkey baggage handler.

The pegasus smiled and handed the donkey several bits tip "Thank you Mr. Thorn." then checked the parachute pack on the case "Looks good."

Shanna yawned and climbed into her bed under the ceiling fan and drew up a light cover. "All right Hoss. By the way, I have already checked, and the balcony looks like a good place for us to take off and land if the cafe area is too crowded later."

The stallion nods "Great! I'll be back soon, sis..." He chuckled, seeing she had already fallen asleep as he spoke.

He fluttered into a light hover and left the room quietly.

A minute later, he ventured out into the street, and leapt into the sky, heading for the mesa to give it a quick once over. He wondered if that was another train coming, off in the distance....

  22. I get the impression from the speed the pony engeneers travel at, under several hundred tons of load, that the engine is enchanted in part like the snowplow Twilight enchanted in "Winter Wrap-up" and channels much of its energy or momentum to the engeneers, or is otherwise acting to take up the load until the ponies can pull with little or no effort.

This may be a technomagere stopgap until they get over the tradition of horse-drawn trains from before the engine was introduced... (The first trains here on Earth were in fact horse-drawn...)

As for where the mane 6 got on the train at, My guess watching the show was Big Mac may have hauled the tree up to the nearest town with a station by wagon.

I hope some of this makes sense. :ugeek:

  23. Both pegasi neigh appreciatively "Yes that sounds perfect!"

As the Sherrif continues and offers his protection, he nods "We thank you! That wil be a great help, sir. I'll give it a quick once over at 500' after I see Shanna of to bed, then I'll explore the town on my way back. That should be a nice safe distance."

Shanna yawns "Can you meet us at a half hour to sundown, Sherrif?"
