Hoss and Shanna eagerly munch on their salads and muffins as Hoss speaks "Yes, this is some great food! We'll definitely be eating here during our stay."

The ponies ears perk at the question "Ah, the comet! Yes, We're lucky to be the ones gettng this view of it. Observatories in Canterlot, Cloudsdale, and other places to the East will be watching it. but the best place to try and get pictures of it was calculated to be around here, and we get to be the one's trying the camera attachment for the first time. We tested it with the moon last night and it seems to be going great.

The comet is a strange one. it comes around every 150 years and was reported to trail sparkles in its tail last time around. the photos are to help us see what the sparklies are later.

A rushed waitpony in a stetson stopped for moment, dropping off a key after having Hoss sign a small book. "She has you folks in Room 5, to make up for not greeting you in person. It's lunchtime and we're a bit short hooved for the moment. Welcome to Appleoosa."

Noss smiled and Shanna nodded agreement "That was still a great turnaround on a bad time and nothing to sneeze at. Anyway, being a weather pony is hard work but good, and fun too. Some days. we're herding clouds around for rain in places that really need it, other's we're busting them up so crops will get the best sun. Its quite a rush to surf on the stormfront winds pushing ahead of a storm. I hear earth ponies can do something like that on special boards at the sea shore, riding waves. "

The elegant mare hurriedly wave a hoof "Coming right up..." Obviously the place was new and had not yet got a full staff yet. the few were quite busy shuttling coffee and plates around including the owner.

Hoss went to the counter for a moment and scanned the menu, quickly jotting down two salads, a muffin sampler, two iced coffees and a pitcher of water on a pad there, and nodded toward the sherrif's table. Shanna had already gotten there and leaned back under the ceiling fan with a sigh of relief.

Hoss used a wingtip to pull up a chair and sat down by Shanna, fanning her with his left wing. "Thank you very much for your kindness, Sherrif. It's not often Weather Patrol ponies get caught off-guard like this, but the forecasters dont have as many scouts out this way yet. I'm afraid my sis does as well in heat wave conditions as I do in sudden severe cold.

From the reports the temps are usually bearable, arent' they?"

Beside him, the mare slowly drank the water that just arrived, keeping quiet for now.

Hoss suddenly earperked "Oh wait!? Arent' you the hero of Appleoosa? One of the Ponyville Weather Ponies told the story of the buffalo stampede. It was the talk of Cloudsdale for a month or so."

Hoss smiled and perked up "Yes sir, that would be fantastic!" He slipped his head back into the harness just long enough to tow the cart over to the hitchin' post by the building in question.

In moments, he had helped his sister from the cart, then grabbed the camera case in his mouth. "K, les go."

Shanna was a little wobbly for a moment, but eagerly trotted into the shade inside. muttering about bringing some rain next time...

Hoss wondered how long the outdoor deck would be a feature of the new building since obviously it was currently too hot for anyone to eat outside. What few patrons she had at the moment were inside eating under the ceiling fans.

Once inside, he set the case down and turned to look with his sister at the proprietress.

He saw an elegant earth pony with mocha hide and an elegantly styled cream colored mane and tail with caramel colored streaks and a matching appaloosa blanket across her hindquarters. Her cutie mark was a cappuchino coffee cup.

The pegasus perks his ears and turns toward the Sherrif "Oh yes sir, I am Star Skybright, my friends call me Hoss. I and my sister Shanna are here on behalf of the Royal Canterlot Observatory, Cloudsdale branch to take photos of a comet by telescope." He nods to the shapely black hoof waving from the cloud sitting on the cart. "Hello."

He continues "I'm afraid It's hotter than the regional weather pony predicted it would be and poor Shanna here about passed out earier. Is there a place we can stay and cool off? We need to eat and rest up for tonight."

It was late morning in Appleoosa on a day even the locals considered "Scortching!" when a small, bright yellow pegasus cart appeared in the sky over a ridge.

As it aproached for a landing near the train station, it soon becomes apparent there is a small cloud hovering over the cart as the bright bay stallion pulling it flares his wings and lands beside a horse trough.

"I said I'm sorry, okay? If I had known it would be this hot, I would have done that. Just take it easy sis..."

A voice groaned from inside the cart "This is why I wanted to start out last night and get here at dawn. I dont like this heat, it just wears me out."

The young stallion unhitches himself from the cart and moves to refill a bottle from his saddlebag at the trough, then stick his head in for a long drink.

Cooled off, he passes the bottle into the back of the cart, through the cloud. "Just keep yourself and the camera equipment cool while I line up some lodging for us, Shan."

After a muffled "Okay..." from the back, Hoss turns to look the town over. "I hope there's a place to stay, anyway..."

*rubs his hooves together* Hoo boy, Theres always a good convention tale, but maybe later.

For now, I think this one is the most amazing and hopefully might save a brony caught in similar circumstances.

Before the current hobby/pony farm I'm currently helping on, there was this hobby ranch in Texas owned by a Dr. working at a hospital in Dallas.

For some reason, this entire ranch was a "no-weapon zone" despite dangerous animals hiding out in the mesquite.

The dirt road was impassible in wet weather, and any extra money on my part I could only get by working an extra job. Sooo I was walking a mile to the road where I parked at the gate, just after dark and suddenly heard the local pack of coyote-dog mixes yap ahead of me.

I turned and forced myself to walk CALMLY away and there was suddenly yipping moving to cut me off. Did I mention I was in a no-weapon zone?

I could hear them getting closer and knew running would only spur them to attack.

I made a noise to try and intimidate them. I can imitate a horse well enough to get the real thing to answer, and the horses on the ranch attack the coydogs on sight. I did my best stallion fighting scream and the pack stopped in confusion. They let me back slowly out of the circle and escape while they tried to decide what I was.

I left the ranch shortly after that incident.

Do NOT be out in the countryside in Texas unarmed!

The twins love of the night sky has been deeply instilled by the work of their mother, who among her other observations faithfully tracked the movement of four stars mentioned in older texts. Even if no one else seemed to care before the event, she had ordered her family grounded at the time of the alignment and "the day of the long night" as she called it, keeping them safe when Nightmare Moon escaped.

Like certain other ponies, the twins had their share of problems with bullies and jerks in flight school, but teamwork with each other and a larger circle of friends saw them through the rough spots in flight training.

Even so, she still ends up having to sometimes save her brother from situations his adventures get him into.

Their entry into the Weather Patrol was expected of them by their father, but they enjoy it as their father personally taught them the ins and outs of taming the weather and riding the stormfront winds at greater speed to warn the teams of storms too big for them to handle alone.

Now, after their 18th birthday, both she and her brother are starting out as trainee astronomers. As such, they are tasked with doing much of the field work for some of the fully accredited Astronomers in Cloudsdale and Canterlot, particularly their mother now that she’s starting to slow down.

When not in the field, they handle some of the workload in calculating the data in predicting when important celestial events will occur and where the best viewpoint will be. They sometimes end up in the wrong place, but that is taken as being important data as well since the object is not behaving as expected.

In their fieldwork, they will be travelling from place to place to get the best view of celestial events, steadily broadening their range of locations to observe from. This range currently stretches from Cloudsdale, Fillydelphia, Canterlot, and over to Rockwington. They even observed a comet from Appleoosa, trying out a new camera system on it.

(If seen in passing by other players in the afternoon or evening, one or both twins may be towing a 10’ long collapsible telescope made in Cloudsdale, in it’s 4’ long travel case on a pegasus cart.)

Along with all this, unless they get clearance for a long trip, they are also expected to perform their duties in the Weather Patrol in the daytime.

(Now expanded a bit more. I hope the formatting works this time. Is the travel telescope ok? I see in the show that Cloudsdale has an observatory with a huge telescope, which is what gave me the idea for astronomers in the first place.

I'm not familiar with that game either, but some of my friends play Warhammer 40K instead. His GF (Now Wife) took up the genestealers and painted her most dangerous nasty up like the Pokemon, Pikachu.

Everyone she fights concentrates ALL their firepower on that beastie out of sheer principle, and while she ues him as a bullet magnet, all her other monsters roll up on the enemy, undamaged...

Princess Celestia needs to start up a Weather Patrol for the planet Earth. Having an entire planet running like the Everfree Forest just aint workin' man.

What exactly goes down usually in the crossover RP section? Is it usually just a bunch of ponies and other random animated characters runnin around, interactin, stuff like that, or is it more organized and rule-based, like The Mane RP (which, BTW, is a pretty interesting play on words)?

From what Ive found just looking through the getting started section and asking around, ManeRP is for the ponies that fit the template they set up, working within the "canon" for the actual show. Crossover seems to be the catch-all for "other", people making x-overs of MLP/stargate, /half-life, /etc. or playing "what-if" alternate histories with MLP. A fair number of my eventuial planned characters will likely end up in Crossover...

I see that somepony here apparently has the same "grooming for bigger things" vibe I do about the crazy adventures Celestia puts Twilight through, since one of the sub-groups of crossover is Equestria 1000 years from "now", under the rule of Princess Twilight...

I think I'm missing something. I do not see anything related to the addy scrolling down to the bottom of the screen. A URL appears on the border if I hover my mouse pointer on the thumbnail.

When I click the picture, the screen turns black, and the picture unfolds on the screen. I right click and end up with the mucked up addy I put up as an example n my last post.

I am using Internet Explorer for this board. I'll try this with Firefox after I post...
