1. Forte was puzzled at Allanons words. Could a Sleepless generation end up changing the world? If so, would it be for the better? He didnt know. But he wasnt going to let a strange ponies puzzling comments stop scientific progress. He went back to work with the other scientests and waited for the next customer.

  2. Forte looked after Allanon distressed. He didnt understand the scientific process. But then again, when do government agents ever really understand what they are enforcing. The Sleepless genemod is not dangerous. Tests on rats and other animals have been rousing successes, with the animals seeming to not only not require sleep, but also to be smarter, more curious, and even happier. The scientists know that the genemod wont be harmful to ponies, but they are unsure to what extent the other effects, the intelligence, curiosity, and happiness, will carry over to ponies.

  3. "Oh, that is not how genemods work. There's no chance of spontanious mutation, malignant or benign. At least, not with registered genemods. And, you cant really have an allergic reaction to a gene... All genemods are made in utero. We assure you, all of our genemods are safe. Even the sleepless genemod. It will not cause any psycological damage, and it will not cause mental retardation. We are just unsure of what all other effects may be."

  4. The concert continued as normal. But after the last song was played, instead of begining to pack up, Forte stayed at the microphone.

"Today, I gained back, then lost, a good friend. This next song is for him."

The rest of the band looked startled, unsure as to what was happening. Forte started to play, a slow lyrical piece, that sounded frustratingly familiar...

  5. Forte looked at it, confused.

"THis... This is his first violin... The one he had before he left, the one he sold... How did he..."

Forte looked out into the street, but didnt see anything.

"Come on, I've got a concert to finish."

He lead you back inside, watching the door the whole time.

  6. Forte looked stunned. Saxon had always tried to sabatage good things that happened to Forte. At least, he did before they started playing together. Why was he doing it again now?

"White Feather... No, I didnt abandon Saxon. We were in the same boat, until he left."

Forte then began to explain everything, starting with his and Saxon's rivalry since they were foals. He explained how they were always trying to one up eachother, and how Forte was always the one to come out on top, musically. Socially, though, Forte was always a little awkward. Saxon, however, was always the one the fillies flocked to. And Saxon always tried to flaunt this advantage over Forte, who was better than Saxon in most other ways. And whenever Forte did find a filly who was interested, Saxon tried to sabatoge it. At least, he did, until they both graduated from the Canterlot School of Music. Then they were in the same boat. They were unknown musicians, trying to find a place to preform. So they both took to preforming on the streets. First they were seperate, but when Forte started to make some money and bought a cheap apartment, he extended an olive branch. At first, Saxon's pride wouldnt let him move in with Forte, but eventually, hunger over-rode his pride and Saxon accepted his offer. Forte didnt let him live there for free, though. He made Saxon earn his housing, mostly through helping around, helping to clean and cook. And in return, Forte gave him a home, and food. Although, the food wasnt the best, and Saxon did tend to get the worse parts... Then, when they decided to start to play together, they shared the money. They both ate well, and they were even happy, for the most part. Then, one day, Forte messed up. He was so caught up in playing and getting better, that he didnt pay the rent for the apartment. Forte and Saxon were both evicted, and they spent the next week on park benches. They had enough money for food, but their deteriorating apperances due to lack of showering soon led them to hunger again. So, out of desparation, Saxon sold their instruments. Forte was furious, and they fought. Saxon left, and Forte continued his life up till that point.

"I admit, I have made mistakes. A lot of them, actually. And yeah, I could have treated him better, but I guess it was nice to be in power, after all the times he took from me. But I always tried to make sure that both me and him were taken care of. I hope you can see that..."

He looked at her for a moment. She had stopped crying, but her face was still buried in her hooves. After she didnt respond for a bit, he sighed, walked up to her, kissed her cheek, and started to walk back towards the concert hall, his head down, his wings drooping.

  7. "Dammit Saxon, why?! Why do you always attempt to ruin things for me?"

Forte stared after Saxon, but let him leave. He had roughly half an hour before it was time for him to go back on. He ran outside and found White Feather crying on a bench. He flew over to her and sat next to her.

"White Feather? What did he say to you?"

  8. Forte finishes his song, then looks into the audience, looking for White Feather. He saw Saxons sly smile, and an old hate fired up again. What had he done this time? Forte introduced the next song, a suite by the rest of the band, and walked off stage. A few moments later, an usher came up to Saxon and asked him to step out for a moment. Saxon was lead to a back room, and Forte was there, staring angrily.

    "Saxon, what did you do?!"

  9. It was at that moment that the band began to file onto the stage. Forte, much to Saxon and White Feather's surprise, did not sit with the rest of the trombones. Instead, he walked up to the front of the stage and set up a microphone, then set his trombone on a stand next to him. The director then came up and addressed the audience.

"Good evening Canterlot! This is a very special show for the Canterlot Brass Band. This concert will be all about showcasing our best new trombonist, Forte!"

He moved off to the side, and Forte, with the band playing under him, began an uptempo march, perfectly styled and articulated.

  10. Forte's mouth dropped as he realised what it was... It was the mouthpiece from his first horn... He looked towards where Saxon trotted off, then picks it up and packs up his horn. He had preperations to make. And changes to a concert to prepare...

It is later that evening, and Saxon comes and sits down in the first row. A moment later, the pegasus mare that he recognizes as the mare he saw with Forte sits next to him.

  11. Forte stared at him angrily, then seemed to calm down for a moment. "Yeah... You're right.. You always did seem to get the short end of the stick... Well, I have a concert to get ready for.. I guess I'll see you there?" Forte still sounded somewhat uneasy.
